Congrats Phil for ousting theymos as BPIP's #1 Most Recognized

Saving it here b/c it might not last forever, e.g. when theymos goes back to DT1.
902  Economy / Reputation / Re: Dear Timelord2067, was it really necessary? on: November 12, 2023, 01:45:14 PM
Its hard to tell if he means "distrusted" as in excluded or as in negative trusted you... I don't know about the feedback history but the thing is he excluded you in July 2022 and your request for people to remove you from their trust lists (as referenced in the feedback) wasn't until Oct 2022... So it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Generally, negative feedback shouldn't be left for how someone makes use of the trust system... especially if they don't want to be part of DT. It has very little to do with actual trustworthiness.
903  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Time to roll-back Ordinals? on: November 12, 2023, 01:32:26 PM
I personally have mixed feelings of whether I'd support such a change, but I'd tend to oppose it, because frankly, I believe anyone should have the right to do their bitcoin as they like if they're willing to pay for it. Nonetheless, I'd absolutely love to see other expert's opinions on this.

I would like to hear it as well... Would be nice to get a summary of how Core maintainers and contributors have been approaching the subject and what - if any - changes to the code have been suggested.

It seems like they are waiting to see how persistent the issue is going to be and whether or not it warrants any kind of alteration. Even limiting size of witness data may not matter as Ordinals peeps can simply chain transactions together as happens with Recursive Inscriptions. These types of inscriptions will be more costly but will not end the problem of people using Bitcoin for data storage... I don't think anything will.
904  Other / Meta / Re: So I had a person send me a pm to beg for merits. on: November 12, 2023, 09:41:46 AM
Looks like merits are becoming more popular than they seem to have been for the past year or so.  I was beginning to wonder why members weren't as obsessed with ranking up like they always were.

Maybe a new generation is discovering how to make some easy BTC or BUSD here and the competition is getting a little bit more fierce. But not too much though...

I have been seeing a lot more bought accounts waking up to participate in certain campaigns that I guess are deemed lucrative. I don't know when or how they were acquired by their new owners, but a lengthy pause followed by an abrupt change in writing style is often a good indicator.

CryptoPunks sales picking up, signals new momentum for Historical NFTs

Though relatively quiet through most of the 2nd half of 2023, CryptoPunks are once again picking up in sales volume, even if still a blip of its former self (from 2021-22).

Usually there are only 16-30 sales per week, but this last week saw a whopping 159 sales, suggesting momentum is once again on the rise for NFTs valued for their historical aspects.

According to OpenSea:

Quote
CryptoPunks launched as a fixed set of 10,000 items in mid-2017 and became one of the inspirations for the ERC-721 standard. They have been featured in places like The New York Times, Christie’s of London, Art|Basel Miami, and The PBS NewsHour.

CryptoPunks are often regarded as the 1st 10k PFP set, meaning they are images that can be used by avatars (as is certainly the case for Twitter, a bit less so in other places).

906  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: The Counterparty BitBowl - Decentralized Super Bowl Wagering on: November 12, 2023, 06:22:22 AM
Welcome to Week X of the 2023 NFL season!

Time flies. We still have 15 full team sets on sale for 0.015 BTC each. Sending 0.015 BTC to the following dispenser will trigger the sale of all 32 BitBowl team tokens:

https://xchain.io/tx/2b5185c64da16fbab5c295a2fd9008bf77fac9e6360b56ec852dca8963404db5

You'll also get some IMMORTALS which you can use to purchase new team tokens off the DEX. If your corresponding team wins the Super Bowl, you can redeem your token for a free Rare Pepe!

I will take down most new team token dispensers at the conclusion of Week 12.

cheers, from one enjoyooor to another
908  Other / Meta / Re: So I had a person send me a pm to beg for merits. on: November 12, 2023, 06:09:43 AM
Kind of happy I don't get these DMs, at least not more than 1 per year. I think its because people don't want their alt accounts found out.  Cheesy

Lol he said "do not beg for merits excessively" which means  there are some rooms for begging.

I suppose everyone gets one free beg in that case... two if you play your cards right.

I like their style though, "free" some people want everything to be free, as if they would give anything out for free themselves.

This is true, they would not. They'd sooner have to earn their own merit than give something away for free.

It doesn't happen often, but when I receive such a PM, I leave neutral feedback.
Example: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=3579580

There's a 50% chance its the same person under a different account.
909  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcin does not support financial crimes and is not involve in political affairs on: November 12, 2023, 05:41:56 AM
This is an instance where the blockchain analysis companies are actually on the side of the average crypto user. As referenced in the OP, here's the article by Elliptic:

https://www.elliptic.co/blog/setting-the-record-straight-on-crypto-crowdfunding-by-hamas

Key takeaways:

- there's no actual evidence to support the WSJ's allegations
- Hamas BTC donations peaked in 2019
- their fundraiser website was shut down by the Department of Justice in 2020
- they stopped accepting crypto donations altogether by April 2023

Spamming isn't subjective to the quantity of posts we make.

It often is, especially when it comes to participants of signature campaigns that pay for 10 posts a day 6 days a week. The result is watered-down text that rarely contains anything of substance. Not that such posts are necessarily even considered "spam" in the eyes of the moderators. I realize standards are quite low around here these days. But the amount of shitposts your campaign members have been generating is pretty astounding, that's why I'm here in this thread in the first place.

But in regards, its more of a parody with elon and that of a meme coin rather than something like ethereum

OK well I can't argue with that, I've said all I needed to say, have fun.
912  Economy / Reputation / Re: Should Ratimov be in DT1? on: November 11, 2023, 11:30:47 AM
All of this could have been avoided if he had just deleted the incorrect tags, and then he would have had the upper hands against Gazeta, since it would be Gazeta on the wrong side by tagging him for something "moderation" related. But he ignored that fact because of anger. While he could still be on DT, having his threads untouched, no drama, no hurt feelings etc.

To his credit, he did delete his negs against Gazeta, but then re-added them only a couple days later... He couldn't stop himself after his buttons were re-pushed, which is unfortunate. Now he has deleted all ratings. And I should add it was good of Gazeta to downgrade their tag to neutral.

Well, that about wraps er up... Not sure there's much left to be said or done at this point. A cautionary tale of forum drama.
913  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The PATRIOT Act comes to cryptocurrency on: November 11, 2023, 11:15:11 AM
We even saw that Kraken, a non US exchange, was demanded to provide user data to the IRS for auditing and after a court battle, Kraken lost.

Kraken is a US exchange, and its founder, Jesse Powell, is an American. It is notable for being not only one of the first and longest-standing US-based BTC exchanges, but for also holding out on over-reaching demands from the government, to the farthest extent possible. An example of this would be continuing to list XMR when most other US exchanges have delisted it out of fear of future regulation & compliance issues.

So, the US has power even outside of the US.

This part is still true.
914  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC] Eloncoin - Mars, here we come!! 🚀 - POS Energy Efficient. on: November 11, 2023, 10:42:31 AM
If you ask for my opinion on altcoins, I see them as a gamble irrespective of which one you're talking about, if you love gambling sure do your research and do as you wish.

There's a huge difference between Ethereum and this coin... Trying to equate all altcoins as the same I guess works for your conscience, but its a vast oversimplification that serves no other purpose. Can you imagine if Ethereum had something like this on its website back in its first few years?  Cheesy

Nevermind that this explanation doesn't really make sense, this isn't Dogecoin -- its a new Proof of Stake coin where half the supply is held by a single wallet.

As for the spam; I have done my selection properly and didn't hire any known spammer.

You're incentivizing spam by paying for up to 60 posts per poster each week. That's 10 posts a day with 1 day off. There's no way anyone that is writing this many posts is actually saying anything worth reading.
915  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Time to roll-back Ordinals? on: November 11, 2023, 03:15:04 AM
When the limit was placed on OP_RETURN it didn't cause any issues nor did it push people into using workarounds.

It did, actually. But the workarounds were trivial to accomplish, and the limit was reverted in 2015.

So why is Ordinals Attack different all of a sudden?!!

Because its not an attack, just like Counterparty wasn't an attack. You are mired in confusion because you continue to mislabel it as an attack. Once you accept its not an attack, then the situation may begin to make more sense.

In any case I still don't think it is too late. If the majority of nodes start rejecting this type of spam attack (like some of us do) they won't reach a mining pool to be mined.

Due to the nature of economic incentives and capitalism, this will never happen.
916  Economy / Reputation / Re: Nutildah's bounty cheaters & ban evaders thread on: November 10, 2023, 11:02:14 AM

That's true, they're not your friends, because they are you.

Accounts using Telegram name @jokar51:

riya122
shoel8090
ayonkhan523
Nunu32

But the thing is, even though its highly suspicious that you and MY-COMPUTER are applying for the same bounties, I can't find any other connections, so I will delete the two tags for now. Even though I'm almost positive you are also RTR!.
917  Other / Meta / Re: Wall of fame / shame. Shit posts so bad that they are actually funny on: November 10, 2023, 08:55:09 AM
And one more thing sir if I am wrong so prove it by your research and mention me in that topic and win by discussion before tagging me in spam or shit posting thread. Thanks. Smiley

It wasn't my intent to "tag" you. But cmon man, you literally typed this and then thought, 'OK this is good to go':

But these Bitcoin and others Altcoins or NFTs are working because of Technology. If Technology is here so they are working.

The bar is a lot lower that I previously imagined, if I'm the one mistaken and this post doesn't belong here.

And if you saw my post in that thread, from where you picked up my piece of post. And you don't have anything to reply so you could have ignored.

That's true, I could have.
918  Other / Meta / Re: What's AI Written Post? on: November 10, 2023, 04:01:49 AM
As has been pointed out a few times already, the real reason it shouldn't be done is because the post author is taking credit for something they didn't write, wanting everyone else to believe they actually did write it, which is dishonest. This is one of the most direct statements on AI policy that we've had from forum staff thus far:

It should be treated the same as plagiarism. Asking an AI something then copy and pasting the response is just as bad if not worse than plagiarism because it's not as easy to detect, though the posts do kind of stand out.
...
I think theymos should probably make an announcement about prohibiting this sort of use of AI or at the very least we add it to the "unofficial" forum rules but users should be alerted not to use it in such a way. If a user if just going to use it to copy and paste the title of a thread or the OP into an AI then copy and paste the results that should be treated the same as plagiarism. If it isn't then this place isn't going to be a discussion forum for much longer but just a get paid to copy and post AI responses forum.

If you insist on posting text written by ChatGPT, it should be done as an attributed quote, like such:

Quote
Here's what ChatGPT had to say about this issue:

Quote
To avoid issues related to plagiarism, it's essential to provide appropriate attribution when using information obtained from ChatGPT, especially in contexts where academic, professional, or ethical standards apply. This involves acknowledging that the content is generated by a language model and providing references to the model and its training data when necessary.
919  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Angry at the high fees? That's what everyone predicted the future will be like! on: November 10, 2023, 03:34:29 AM
Although still too high for my tastes, fees have already come down about 50% since this topic was opened, so that's good at least.

I do blame Binance for listing $ORDI and basically being the first major exchange to implement Ordinals support. They benefit from fees being high for several reasons, not just because of their BTC mining pool:

- they can pass the costs off to their customers in the form of a bigger withdrawal fee
- this makes people not want to withdrawal their coins from the exchange (more liquidity for them), and
- they can point to BNB as a "cheaper alternative" than Bitcoin.
920  Other / Meta / Re: Wall of fame / shame. Shit posts so bad that they are actually funny on: November 10, 2023, 03:07:46 AM
How the Eloncoin sig campaign is going... I get the feeling they are not sending their best & brightest:

...
But these Bitcoin and others Altcoins or NFTs are working because of Technology. If Technology is here so they are working. If there will be WW3 so after that the Technology will go down. So we can't say anything. How much the will live.

They are working because the technology is here. After WW3 the technology will go down, along with my will to live.
