9041  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: That feeling having your first merit on Bitcointalk on: May 20, 2021, 09:09:28 AM
But even if a user is only posting bounties-posts I would suspect he/she would earn at least one merit - maybe just by accident. The more you post, the more likely it is that you earn a random merit.
Not if you consider the following things. Bounty hunters don't merit other bounty hunters for the reports they post. They are mostly newbies or Jr. members having only 1 merit, so they can't send any sMerits. Bounty managers of altcoin campaigns will surely not merit bounty reports either. Merit sources and those with huge stashes of merits don't go searching for merit-worthy posts in bounty threads or the altcoin boards in general. That very much limits such users from receiving any merits.
9042  Other / Meta / Re: Why are "Likes" turned off in this forum? on: May 20, 2021, 08:57:21 AM
If your idea is to break this "That 10 merit requirement is unfair towards newbies and jr. members and might be considered as a newbie jail." then we should start removing merit systems and ranks because it is not also fair for newbies  Huh. I hope I have said my point clear because my English is quite bad.
The merit system is equally fair on everyone. If I (a legendary) like your post, I merit you. If a Jr. member likes my post, he merits me. Both those merits are the same, and my legendary merit or status doesn't have any greater importance than that of a Jr. member when it comes to the ability of meriting and being merited. Any member on the forum can get merited and can merit others if sMerits are at hand.

A proposal to not allow users who have less than 10 merits to upvote or get upvoted is the opposite to how the merit system works. That would mean that if I like a post made by a newbie, I wouldn't be able to upvote it. If he likes a post made by me, he would also not be able to upvote my post. That's newbie jail.
9043  Other / Meta / Re: What Would Be Your Reason to Leave Bitcointalk? on: May 20, 2021, 08:43:22 AM
Good catch. He didn't even bother making unique usernames, that's how little he cares. Probably a bad attempt to get a merit by voicing his opinion.

Also, the 'couldn't get into signature campaign' is 0 voted option in poll so far.
I am sure many people would leave exactly for that reason, but they are not willing to share that info.
9044  Economy / Speculation / What Effects Did the Tether Reserves Breakdown Have on Bitcoin and The Market? on: May 20, 2021, 08:30:18 AM
Elon Musk and his negativity about bitcoin’s non-eco-friendly mining process gained plenty of media coverage this week. But something else happened a few days ago that certainly affected the whole market.

The stablecoin Tether published a report that shows their entire reserves breakdown until 31 March 2021.

This is how it looks:

We know that Tether has claimed that all of their USDT tokens are backed by actual cash deposits. Throughout the years, they have changed this claim to say different things, though. Looking at the pie charts they made public, we can see that their whole reserves aren’t backed up by cash and cash equivalents.

Cash & Cash Equivalents & Other Short-Term Deposits & Commercial Paper” take up 75.85% of their reserves. But how much of that is actually backed up by cash? According to the chart, only 3.87%.

The biggest reserves of over 65% are commercial papers. This category should represent some type of securities. According to the source, a similar type of commercial papers was part of the problem that led to the bankruptcy of Lehmann Brothers, which signalled the beginning of the financial crisis of 2008.

Wall Street investor Caitlin Long, who has defended Tether many times in the past, was critical of Tether’s choice of assets to keep as reserves. If Tether wanted to keep the risk for users as low as possible, she believes that government bonds would have been a much better choice. The commercial papers introduce a credit risk that could result in USDT no longer being pegged to the USD. Instead, Tether went for “commercial papers” to profit on the interest rates. According to the same source, a 1% interest would net the company a profit of $582 million annually.

If that is true, Tether makes money with the funds users invest when they buy USDT but leaves all the risks on the users by keeping inadequate reserves.

What is your opinion on this?
Is Tether cancer we have to get rid of for bitcoin and the crypto market to have a prosperous future?
How big of an impact do you think this Tether disclosure had on the recent downtrend of bitcoin and the whole market?

9045  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BTC/USDT and positioning to lessen the loss and gain a profit from dip on: May 19, 2021, 06:06:28 PM
The time to sell or exchange your bitcoin for a stablecoin passed a week ago when bitcoin was still in the $50k regions. Doing it now at below $40k doesn't make much sense especially if you are taking a big loss. I know people who held on to their coins after buying them at the top of the 2017 bull run. They did nothing when it came falling down to $3-4k. On the contrary, they kept accumulating and waiting for better days. Don't sell now unless you absolutely need that money.
9046  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Trust wallet moving things to another wallet for coinstats better tracking? on: May 19, 2021, 05:22:17 PM
Example yesterday, had to send over eth, i guess no avoiding the gas fees as they are now, but because i did it twice on a send to the TW eth wallet it cost me $33 each time in gas fees.  The other way was buying eth in trust wallet direct via moonpay, saved a bit but took 4 hours.
Your OP and this part of your last post that I quoted are contradictory. In OP, you are suggesting that you want to move your assets away from Trust Wallet. But in the last post, you mentioned that you sent ETH two more times to your Trust Wallet. On top of that, you also purchased some ETH and added those coins to Trust Wallet as well. Why would you send additional coins to a wallet you are planning to move coins off of? Or did all that happen before you decided to look for an alternative wallet.

Can't you track your portfolio through Trust Wallet? Each wallet should have basic functionalities like displaying the amount of coins you have and their equivalent value in fiat. Do you have to keep track of everything through CoinStats right now in this crazy period? I have seen 700 GWEI being recommended today for ETH transactions. The network fees are not as high right now, it still makes little sense doing transactions that aren't of the utmost importance.
9047  Other / Meta / Re: What Would Be Your Reason to Leave Bitcointalk? on: May 19, 2021, 10:19:14 AM
My first thought: I'll leave when I'm dead.
And if theymos doesn't answer those questions of mine Grin

There's an option missing from the poll: personal safety, privacy and/or taxes. Lauda's post made me feel like (s)he left because of safety.
Good thinking! I also got the feeling from reading the goodbye thread that someone was on to her or made a serious threat that made her quit.
Therefore, the option "Personal safety, privacy and/or taxes" has been added to the poll.
9048  Economy / Gambling / Re: [Table] Withdrawal Fees and Withdrawal Amounts on Crypto Casinos on: May 19, 2021, 10:00:11 AM
I added Primedice to the table in my OP last night. I wanted to add Gamdom as well, but the site doesn't allow me to check the withdrawal fees or the minimum withdrawal amounts without making a deposit first. Can't say I am pleased with the way they configured that part of their wallet.

If anyone has a Gamdom account, please check the bitcoin withdrawal fees and minimum amounts and let me know. Uploading a screenshot so I can see it would also be appreciated. I will then add the figures to the table.

Any other reputable casinos that are missing and that you feel should be added in OP? I won't add any casinos with legitimate negative ratings!
9049  Other / Meta / Re: What Would Be Your Reason to Leave Bitcointalk? on: May 19, 2021, 09:52:11 AM
I've cut back on my posting in the Bitcoin Talk forum, as it seems to have been taken over by many who have a passive acceptance of government and msm misinformation and propaganda.
I am certain you are talking about COVID-19 and vaccinations.

It would be great if we could have some threads that discussed and questioned the manipulated fake news that is affecting our live to a considerable extent. Obvious topics are pharmaceuticals ans vaccination, fiat currencies and their replacement, the manipulation of wealth preservation assets, the destruction of family values, distortion of human sexuality, and a whole range of similar topics.
Most of those are off-topic discussions that shouldn't be the focus of a bitcoin forum. They belong either in off-topic, serious discussion, or politics. Bitcoin can be discussed with homosexual anti-vaxxers who love the British pound, as well as straight people who live in families with 2-3 children who don't want to get their COVID shots. You can combine the options anyway you want. I don't understand why you would stop using a bitcoin forum due to someone's off-topic/unimportant viewpoints.
9050  Other / Meta / Re: Is there a way to get notified when I log in if someone quotes me in a thread? on: May 19, 2021, 09:37:27 AM
That seems like a lot of work.
It really isn't. I have been using it for a few months and it works great. You can just copy/paste someone else's application and edit the user id #. Use this for example. Make sure the link is also edited to include your user ID.

Set the first line to ignore your own user ID. You don't need the scrapper to send you notifications when you write your own name or quote one of your posts on the forum. The second line tells the scrapper to show the whole post in the notification. You can use "justlinks" if you want to see only links to where your were quoted/mentioned. The last line tells the scrapper to list the quotes from newest to oldest. It makes less sense to configure it to show oldest posts at the top, and force you to scroll down to the bottom to see the most recent mentions.

In so many other forum's software...
It's irrelevant what other forums do. This one doesn't whether we like it or not and it sure as hell wont be introduced now after so many years.
9051  Other / Meta / Re: What Would Be Your Reason to Leave Bitcointalk? on: May 19, 2021, 09:15:50 AM
The first case was due to my own mistake as a beginner...
Were you banned at one point when you were just starting out?

I feel the government will be the biggest hindrance because of the regulation they put in place for bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies. If bitcoin and altcoin trading is banned by the state, then I think it's time I left this forum even though there are a few other point that make sense in the pool.
Bitcoin and crypto are already banned in a number of countries around the world, but it doesn't stop people from trading P2P and using TOR, VPN, and other tools for masking their whereabouts. The point of bitcoin is not allowing the government to tell you what to do. But I guess it's a whole different story if someone gets punished hard for doing whatever they deem to be illegal.
9052  Other / Meta / Re: Plagiarized are not Allowed. on: May 19, 2021, 09:08:03 AM
@Iphomme
You are being made fun of by the previous users, and judging by how little effort you put in writing your post, it's impossible to blame any of them. I don't know what your mother tongue is, but there are free tools to help you make coherent posts. Had you just used Google Translate, I don't think it would have created such a big mess of it.

Take a loot at the free version of Grammarly. You can add it as an extension to chrome and use it in MS Word to correct your lack of basic grammar.
One more tip: Before you make a post, click on the preview button and check what you have written.

9054  Other / Meta / Re: Why are "Likes" turned off in this forum? on: May 18, 2021, 03:45:57 PM
So are you suggesting that we should stop using these merit requirement to rank up ?
No, that's not what I said. You have to read the part of darklus123's post that I quoted and I am responding to. He suggested that only users with a minimum of 10 merits should be allowed to upvote posts. That's what I am against, not against the current merit system.
9055  Other / Meta / Re: What Would Be Your Reason to Leave Bitcointalk? on: May 18, 2021, 03:40:09 PM
I added another reason to leave the forum as requested by a few members. You can now also vote for the admins removing or banning signature campaigns as a reason you would leave Bitcointalk. Since 5 votes are allowed per user and I added ticked the box that you can change your votes, everyone who wants to vote for the new option can now do that.
9056  Other / Meta / Re: Need help about account on: May 18, 2021, 12:49:43 PM
from now on I will focus on my new account
You don't seem to have understood what DdmrDdmr told you. You, as in the person, is banned from Bitcointalk. Not just your portgas313 account. The account fokuscomeback that you are using now, will also get banned for ban evasion if someone reports you.

The only think you can do is to try and get your original account (portgas313) unbanned by creating a new thread and appealing for the ban. If the reason is PM spamming, one of the admins might forgive you because a few years have already have passed since the incident. You will only know if you try.
9057  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The Cricket Match-Fixing Scandal on: May 18, 2021, 12:31:16 PM
Match fixing is a relatively new phenomenon, at least as far as cricket is concerned.
Due to the way the game is played, spot fixing in cricket, which involves only manipulating certain small segments of the match, wouldn't be that difficult to do and it can easily be concealed from those that don't need to know. Be it the federations and anti-gambling committees, or the fans. Unless there is proof that a player was bribed, or there are records of calls or SMS messages, how would you know about it. A player can always he played badly for this or that reason.
9058  Other / Meta / Re: What Would Be Your Reason to Leave Bitcointalk? on: May 18, 2021, 11:29:52 AM
The reason I would leave Bitcointalk will be lack of interest in cryptocurrency (as a technology/opportunities it gives)
I considered adding loss of interest as a separate category, but in the end, that also somehow fits inside "Age, family, life, and/or personal problems prevent me from being active".

Death.
That's another personal reason to leave the forum. See you in the next life Grin

Where's option "Theymos/admin remove signature feature" Tongue
theymos never struck me as someone willing to shot himself in the foot. He knows very well the traffic that is generated from signature campaigns as well as the altcoin boards. That's why there is no such option in the poll Wink
9059  Other / Meta / What Would Be Your Reason to Leave Bitcointalk? on: May 18, 2021, 09:31:05 AM
Bitcointalk has seen many of its old-timers leave and never return to the forum again. There are many reasons why people make such decisions. Still, dissatisfaction with something that happened on the site could be one reason to give up on it.

Forums as mediums for discussions aren’t as popular among the new generations any more. Social media and platforms like Discord or Telegram have significant communities nowadays. But forums still have their charms. And Bitcointalk will always have historical relevance as the place where it all begun.

A study conducted in 2019 shows Americans prefer to use discussion forums in search of reliable information. 88% of all respondents replied that they are members of online platforms. 72% believe that forums share much more trustworthy and reliable information compared to social media.

With all this in mind, I have created a poll. I am interested in finding out the reasons you would decide to leave Bitcointalk and never return here again. You can vote for more than one of the given options. 5 votes per user is the maximum.
9060  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Velike kompanije su pocele investirati u bitcoin kao sigurnu imovinu on: May 18, 2021, 08:51:30 AM
