9141  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: February 19, 2022, 07:20:43 PM
If Portugal can't qualify, it's your fault! They played poorly in qualifying, against weak teams.
Believe me, there are very few Portuguese who believe that the team will go to the world cup.

It's their fault and there's no doubt about it. But at the same time, we can't overlook the fact that they were just plain unlucky. In the first phase, they were included in a group that had strong teams like Serbia. And now for the playoffs, they need to face a super-strong Italy. I have already posted about this, but just feeling bad that so many good teams from UEFA and CONMEBOL are failing to qualify. It's not their fault that they're being placed along strong teams, unlike the case with AFC or the CAF.
9142  Economy / Economics / Re: Ukraine legalize bitcoin on: February 19, 2022, 07:10:30 PM
I do not know the meaning of "de facto" and "de jure" but I know they legalize bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies and define those as digital assets, not currency. That means bitcoin is not a legal tender in Ukraine yet like it is in el Salvador. Last year in September a similar bill was proposed in the Ukraine parliament but voted by their president by stating that Ukraine doesn't have the ability to create a new department for the regulator and maintain crypto assets.

El Salvador is a unique case. The president is not from one of the established parties and therefore he can take radical steps and disturb the status quo. The same is not possible with other countries that are being ruled by career politicians. Therefore in Ukraine and most of the other countries, I don't expect Bitcoin to be awarded the status of legal tender anytime soon. But the fact that they have made Bitcoin and some of the other cryptocurrencies de facto legal is definitely a step in the right direction.
9143  Economy / Economics / Re: Canada to freeze Freedom Convoy Protestors bank accounts... on: February 19, 2022, 03:34:25 AM
Glad to see that the protestors are finally warming up to Bitcoin, after GoFundMe stole more than $10 million from them. They should have considered this option much earlier. Left-wing moonbats like Justin Trudeau knows that he can do anything he want and the media would still support him. The inner city retards would still vote for him no matter how much dictatorial and authoritarian his policies are. Anyway, given the history of Trudeau I won't be surprised if he try to scuttle the Bitcoin donation drive.
9144  Economy / Economics / Re: Ukraine legalize bitcoin on: February 19, 2022, 02:58:21 AM
From what I understand from the previous posts, Bitcoin was already de facto legal in Ukraine. Now the parliament has made it de jure legal. I don't think that this really makes any difference on ground. If I am not wrong, Russia also recently adopted the same approach. We can argue that compared to nations such China (which have imposed a blanket ban on cryptocurrency), the approach from Ukraine is more conciliatory. And a few weeks ago India also adopted a similar approach after much debate.
9145  Economy / Economics / Re: US could run out of cash as soon as Dec. 15, Janet Yellen warns on: February 19, 2022, 02:53:39 AM
LOL.. if anyone want to check the US federal debt in real time, then go to this website: https://www.usdebtclock.org/

For those who are unware, the federal debt has crossed $30 trillion, thanks to people like Janet Yellen and Ben Bernanke. And I would blame both the Trump and the Biden regimes for this spike in debt. When Trump took office, the debt stood at $20 trillion, and it was measured at $26.9 trillion when he left office. And Biden managed to add $3 trillion to it in just around one year. And it will get worse, given the rising oil prices and tensions along the Russia-Ukraine border. Only fools would store their money in USD right now.

Anyone interested in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier A? A total of 8 teams are competing, and the top two teams will gain an entry to the 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup (scheduled for October this year). Matches look boring so far, with most of the teams comprising entirely of foreigners. I couldn't spot any native players in teams such as Bahrain, Canada,  Germany, Oman, Philippines and the United Arab Emirates. The only teams with native players are Ireland and Nepal. That means 75% of the teams doesn't have even a single native player and are entirely having playing XIs made of foreigners.

All done and dusted. South Africa blown away for just 111 runs in their second innings after their two digit total in the first. This time Tim Southee Picked up 5 wickets, while Matt Henry finished with a match total of 9. Neil Wagner and Kyle Jamieson also picked up crucial wickets. South African batting resembled like an amateur club side, and their bowling wasn't much better either. And New Zealand did all this without some of their key players such as Trent Boult, Adam Milne, Glenn Phillips and Kane Williamson.
9148  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: February 19, 2022, 02:02:25 AM
Multiple sources have confirmed that FIFA is considering the idea of expanding the World Cup's list of participating countries. In short, FIFA would like the best players in the world to take part in their tournament. FIFA is doing everything they can to get Portugal into the World Cup in 2022. Portugal's participation in the Qatar World Cup 2022 has not been confirmed yet, so the changes could have a significant impact and raise hopes.

These are just unfounded rumors. The schedule for the 2022 World Cup was finalized a long time back and now there is no room to accommodate new teams. Right now, the plan is to have 32 teams divided into 8 groups. How can they accommodate Portugal in to this, given that there is near zero chance that any of the qualified teams would pull out from the tournament? How they will manage a tournament with 33 teams? One group of 5 teams and remaining groups of 4 teams? I don't think that the member nations would agree to this idea.
9149  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: February 19, 2022, 01:50:23 AM
The Indian Women players are not making the same amount of money the men's cricketers are earning and hence they are allowed to play in any league they want and they do not have a tight schedule like men cricket players. The problem is, if there is no set rules to restrict the players from taking part in leagues around the globe, you will not see any bilateral series or domestic tournaments and certainly the ICC or any cricket boards would not want that to happen.

My suggestion is that Cricket Australia and ECB should ban Indian women's players from taking part in the WBBL and The Women's Hundred. Why should they be allowed to participate when the Indian men players are not allowed in BBL/Hundred? It is not the responsibility of these cricket boards to groom the female Indian players. The BCCI can't simply outsource their job abroad. They are the richest cricket board, and still they don't want to spend money on setting up a new women's franchise T20 league.

Political situation between both countries take twist when big powers intervene. I don't think it will be dry period forever and we can't say when it will last. India likes to play with Pakistan in icc events only since they have better record against Pakistan there. Victory in last T20 WC was first ever win by Pakistan against India in WC.

In this case, the dry period is going to last for a while. As of now, I don't think that there is any chance of a resumption of cricketing ties between these two countries. And that will be the case even if the government changes. So for now, we have to contend with whatever we get during the ICC tournaments. In fact there have been demands from some of the political parties in India that they should stop playing against Pakistan even during the ICC tournaments such as World Cup and Champions Trophy.

I am only waiting for the mega media right auction which should happen anytime this month. A staggering amount of INR 35k to 40k crores  is expected by BCCI which is almost 150% of the last value rights. Many big companies will be participating in this auction. Dates haven't been announced yet but this will surely increase the profit of IPL to a great extent.

I guess the amount will be even higher. You are talking about an amount of around $5 billion. But I am sure that it will cross $10 billion. Look at what happened during the auction for the two new teams. The BCCI received almost $1.7 billion in the end, compared to the initial estimates of $700-1,000 million. There is a lot of demand from several big players and only one can win the bid. Disney+Hotstar is the no.1 bidder as far as I understood (they won the bid for 2017-21 by paying an amount of ₹16,347.50 crore or $2,178 million).

Apart from Disney-Star, others on fray are Viacom18, Amazon Prime Video and Sony Pictures Networks India.

South Africa is all out for 95 runs, i was not aware it was a Test match and New Zealand is already leading by 101 runs and there is no chance for a comeback by South Africa in this match because of their pathetic performance in the first innings. Matt Henry took 7 wickets and that is his best performance till date and this is just the second day and it looks like the match will be over by the 4th day.

As of now, New Zealand is leading by 230 runs. They are the WTC champions and this was expected from them. South Africa put up some resistance against India at home, but they literally got blown away and shredded to pieces in New Zealand. Once again, proves that the gap between the pig-4 and the remaining test nations is getting wider. And the irony is that the New Zealand team includes several players who had to leave South Africa because of the quota system, such as Neil Wagner and Devon Conway.

LOL.. anyone watching the ongoing New Zealand vs South Africa test match? Kiwis prepared a minefield to welcome the Proteas and the latter got blown away for just 95 runs. Matt Henry picked up 7 for 23, while the other three pacers got one wicket apiece (Tim Southee, Kyle Jamieson and Neil Wagner). When it comes to pace bowling, there is simply no competition to New Zealand. They are the best right now, and that too by a considerable distance. Reminds me of the Aussie attack two decades back, when they had McGrath and Lee.
9154  Economy / Economics / Re: India's 30% tax on income from digital asset on: February 17, 2022, 02:42:36 AM
^^^ Oilacris, yours is not exactly an apples to apples comparison. You are trying to compare tax on capital gains, with tax on ordinary income. Both are different. In India, the highest tax slab for income tax is 43%, which is much higher than the 30% rate that is applicable for capital gains from cryptocurrency. But it is definitely higher than the tax rates applicable for other capital assets. For example, profit from gold is taxed at a rate of 20%, while that from stocks and mutual funds is taxed at a rate of 10% in India.

Why would BCCI look for profit through women cricket when they are making more profit every year through IPL? WIPL will not generate revenue for them as not many Indians watch women cricket within India. Have you ever seen a lot of crowds gathering in the stadium when women cricket is being played in India?

One of the concerns is that the WIPL may take away audience from the IPL or dilute the brand of the IPL. It is true that unlike some of the other countries such as England and Australia, women's cricket is not that popular in India. But similar to what happened with the IPL, if the WIPL is launched it can cause a spike in the popularity for the women's game. It will bring big bucks as well, as some of the corporates and celebrities who can't afford franchises or sponsorship in the IPL may opt for the women's variety.

Forget about any bilateral series between these two nations for the next  20 years at least. The political spectrum in both India and Pakistan has moved very hard to the right and extreme voices are having complete dominance as of now. As per the scheduling, India was supposed to visit Pakistan one and half decades back, but they pulled out citing border clashes and terror attacks. The ICC has adopted a neutral stance on this matter, saying that the two countries should resolve the differences amicably.
Why next 20 years, you think the right wing extreme skilless imbeciles will be ruling for the next two more decades. Oh god i never think so,  i will be surprised if they will be able to regain power during the next elections, you can fool people for a while with the gimmicks but not all the time.

At least in India, there seems to be no unified opposition. The 2024 battle is going to be between the BJP (which is a pan-India party) and the TMC (which is mostly limited to West Bengal). I don't know much about the situation in Pakistan, but I guess Imran Khan doesn't have to deal with an effective opposition. I am not hearing much about either the PPP or the PML. And in reality it doesn't matter even if the government changes. I don't think that the other parties would take a favorable stance to the bilateral tour.

Suresh Raina is still playing cricket because CSK was selecting him and once he withdrew from the tournament after reaching UAE they made the decision to exclude him from bidding and none of the teams want him because he is not playing cricket actively and he only plays the IPL once a year and his fitness is a big issue and on top of that his asking price is high.

LOL.. Suresh Raina is still one of the best T20 players in India and you can check his stats in IPL if you disagree with me. He has scored a total of 5,528 runs in the IPL, and is at 4th place in the overall list (behind Kohli, Dhawan and Rohit). He pulled out from the UAE leg of the IPL, because some of his family members were murdered. For Srinivasan and his mafia members, players are just like animals and they should continue playing even if something happens to their family members. That wasn't acceptable to Raina.
9158  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: February 16, 2022, 03:18:32 AM
Imran Khan can be said to be the main reason for the love affair of pace bowling in Pakistan and then they had Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis along with players like Aaqib Javed and the street cricket produces more players and in the streets you need to defeat the batsman with pace and if you are a slow bowler you will be taken apart and may be that is the reason everyone wants to bowl fast and exceptional bowlers get selected to domestic and other levels.

For example in the case of Waqar Younis, who started as a leg spinner but turned to fast bowling and Imran Khan found him playing for clubs and he fast tracked his career in the international level and he was not having much experience playing domestic cricket either when he was picked for Pakistan team, either you need a great captain who can identify talents and have the time to travel the nation to find talents to fast track them or the players need to work hard through the system and gets identified.

Agree with this. Spin never had the glamor and blitz that was associated with pace bowling, at least in Pakistan. Back in the 90s, Shoaib Akhtar was all over the news for his attempt to break the 100 mph barrier. Even kids in India that time used to worship him. There was actually a battle between Akhtar and Brett Lee, which got ugly at times. Akhtar eventually broke the barrier, with his 100.2 mph delivery in 2003. His record was eventually broken by Shaun Tait of Australia with a 100.3 mph fireball in 2010.
9159  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: February 16, 2022, 03:08:38 AM
An excuse, no matter what, not pick unfair to Raina. He deserves another chance. It appears that Chennai Super Kings deliberately neglected Raina. It would be great if one of their players got injured and they picked Raina to replace him. Injuries, national duty, concerns about COVID, and so many other factors will reason that some unsold players will be picked later on.

N Srinivasan openly threatened Suresh Raina after he withdrew from the IPL last year. So it was not surprising to see CSK not bidding for him. But I don't know why the other franchises refused to bid for him. Why they are acting like a cabal? With Indian players in great demand this time around (even Karun Nair attracted a bid of 140 lakh INR), it was surprising to see a player with such a good record in the IPL going unsold. Raina is just 35 years old and I believe that he still has 3-4 years of prime cricket left with him.
9160  Economy / Economics / Re: US national debt exceeds $30 trillion on: February 15, 2022, 03:15:18 AM
Basically, this debt is not the problem of the USA but of the lenders who are mainly foreign countries and which invest their export surpluses in dollars, first and foremost China and Japan. With the USD as the world currency, there are hardly any alternatives that have enormous export-strong countries. As long as this is the case and the US does not overdo it with debt, then they can continue the debt game forever.

USD is the trade currency around the world and most of the forex reserves in other countries are made of US Dollar bonds and other derivatives. Even the exchange rate for other fiat currencies are denominated with regards to the USD. But now we are seeing hints that governments around the world are looking for alternatives. El Salvador has already made Bitcoin as legal tender. Many other countries, including Panama, Malta and Tonga are considering awarding legal tender status to Bitcoin.
