9161  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2018-2019 betting on: February 24, 2019, 05:58:54 AM

Could there be an odd explanation to these teams losing with an average of 11 points, or It is all just coincidental ? I hope it's the latter, really.

Probably coincidental. You also have to remember that we are going closer to playoffs. Teams specially those low ranked are fighting for a playoffs spot so they need to elevate their games that's why upset will happen. Just watch for next month, I'm sure that there will be more upsets in the making.

I do hope that you check the date of this article because this is a old news already. Here is one discussion thread in the Press section:

And I'm sure you will find similar threads in the past as well.
9163  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How do you comfort yourself after receiving token from the bounty program? on: February 23, 2019, 02:36:11 PM
The problem is that did the token really follow its token price? Majority I see is that it's way below the token price that's why a lot of bounty hunters are really pissed and disappointment. So this is really a gamble on your end as the price really fluctuates and you're lucky if the token price breaks even or went above the initial price.
9164  Economy / Economics / Re: Crypto Mass Adoption Roadshow events start in Makati on: February 23, 2019, 01:25:03 PM

i have once attended to an event related to crypto in makati with an ether group there. it felt like i don't fit in actually but yes they did a good job organizing a community. i might be joining once more if they do it in cagayan this time.

Can you elaborate more? I wanted to join in the future but why do you say that you are somewhat OP? It is about the ambiance, place and the people? Might be good though if there's some like a recording of those speakers so we can also listen even for those who didn't attend. Like other Filipino is this community, the country is making a good progress so I wouldn't be surprise in the next 2-5 years, a lot of blockchain experts will be coming into the country or we will have our own representatives in prestigious blockchain event all over the world.

9165  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Trading In Venezuela Keeps Setting New Records on: February 23, 2019, 01:00:16 PM
https://beincrypto.com/bitcoin-trading-in-venezuela-keeps-setting-new-records/?utm_campaign=bitcoin-trading-in-venezuela-keeps-setting-new-records&utm_medium=rss&utm_source=rss

Quote
Peer-to-peer Bitcoin trading volumes in Venezuela have hit all-time highs amid escalating economic and political crises.

Last week, Bitcoin broke another record in terms of trading volume in Venezuela. The latest spike confirms that Venezuelans choose Bitcoin instead of their national currency as a store of value amidst shocking hyperinflation and rising political uncertainty.

As we all know that bitcoin is really a safe haven for Venezuelans specially in the last couple of years and we can say that it did help them to survive the economic turmoil. But it's not done yet because Maduro doesn't want to step down does why bitcoin is setting new records in the country. Venezuela's crisis is one use case how bitcoin or crypto has really help people in times of financial trouble.

This is a pretty good news. Bitcoin really helps Venezuelans to stabilize their assets, even increase their value.
There are several types of assets that people want to buy when the inflation rate rises too high: gold, real estate, Bitcoin.
But they often choose Bitcoin because the BTC is a new trend and it can make their money greatly increase.
This is a great thing and I hope many countries have high inflation rates and the price of BTC will increase even more. Grin

It's because bitcoin is a movable asset to me to let's say compare to gold or real state. Are they willing to buy gold bullions and stash it somewhere in there house? I don't think so, and real state is not that good in terms of hyper inflation right now in the country. So the best option is to buy your money with bitcoin and then you can either used it to buy items around or just used it as store of value.
9166  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Crypto Exchange QuadrigaCX Missing $145 Mln After Death of Founder on: February 23, 2019, 12:45:32 PM
Millions of dollars missing? We've heard of that before. Scenes like that happen again and again. My conclusion? Something fishy is going on.

Oh well, maybe something is fishy but I guess he is really dead, and who knows maybe he can send the private keys from after life?  Grin

The only question now is how those account holders can get their funds back? Although  Ernst & Young entered the picture already as somewhat as a wallet custodian, it might take years though before everyone can be 'compensated'.
9167  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2019 NBA Pre-Season on: February 23, 2019, 12:03:22 PM
Lakers vs Rockets. Another interesting match, I'm sure you guys remember the Rondo-Chris Paul fight. I'm interested to see them face each other again, lol.

I'm watching it live now, the Rockets are leading in double digit and I think they'll pull this win.

Lakers pull an upset and stun Houston, but there are some dodgy calls specially in the dying minutes. But you can't take anything from Lebron as he try his best to lead this team. Paul and Harden, both fouling out, hard defeat for them as they lead as much as 19 if I'm not mistaken, but they have missed lots of three point and together with poor defense, allows Lakers to escape with a win.

It's unusual for this two top players to be fouled out together, lakers got lucky snatching this game out from the rockets, got a good lift from
kuzma and ingram together with lebron chances of getting their way to playoff still alive.

Trading rumors should be set aside while the season still on, they two young guns needs to prove their worth.
The Lakers got some big help from the refs, clearly they got dominated early but the refs ruined their momentum.
Best players are both fouled out, and the coach receives a technical foul, it's very clear that they don't like the officiating of that game.
Capela was back in this game but hasn't shown his beast mode yet, first game from injury is always touch as you will be trying to get back your confidence.

Indeed, that charging fouls against Harden was really questionable, and thus throwing the Rockets offense that time and that help the Lakers pull a upset. Anyways, not taking anything from the Lakers but they really work very hard that's why they got the win, but as you guys saw it, those crucial calls ruins Houston chance of winning the game.
9168  Other / Meta / Re: Selling of merits and btctalk accounts on: February 22, 2019, 04:21:13 PM
My friend got scammed the other day, but not on this forum. He was scammed in a telegram group where merits and accounts are sold.
I think this issue should be looked into so the innocent people are not scammed of their funds.

Then no one has to blame but your friend, I'm pretty sure he/she is familiar with this forum that's why he/she decided to buy accounts with merits. Moral lesson is not to buy accounts, simply as that. Just work your ass off, contributed to the discussions, then sooner or later merits will come.
9169  Economy / Speculation / Re: bitcoin finally crossed $4000 on: February 22, 2019, 03:58:50 PM
The market is indeed increasing and this has a good impact on the holders, there is more enthusiasm to look at the future. Bitcoin did get to the level of $ 4000 and again fell $ 3900, this is still a little pumping and for bulls, possibly in the month or next year.

Yes, but we still need that one push again to put the price above $4k, but its interesting to note what @1Referee, have said, the CME futures expires today so it may have a impact on the current price and do hope it will be a positive one, as usually bitcoin future expirations have some negative impact as of the last couple of expirations, so let's see how things will turn out in the next 48 hours.
9170  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NEM Philippines Helps Universities Provide Blockchain Electives on: February 22, 2019, 03:35:22 PM
It's a good move, though considering that it takes a fortune to study on ADMU, it's better to just take online courses and/or study about blockchain independently with the help of free resource materials on the internet. Not that I'm implying something negative here, but it seems that it's only exclusive to those who can afford it. Understanding and developing blockchains would be a hit niche in the future, and learning it should be available, accessible and affordable for everyone who wants to learn it. A good move by NEM, and hopefully public educational institutions would receive the same programs as well.

From what I read in the article, LPU College of Technology will also be having this blockchain elective course. I'm not so familiar with the tuition fee price range of Lyceum but I believe it to be lower than ADMU's. I'm pretty sure other technical colleges will soon have this blockchain elective as well, it's already a big step for one university to be having it.

What's great about this is having a certification or accreditation once finishing the course. As compared to when you self educate yourself thru sources online, you might not be able to prove to your future employers of your knowledge which was acquired thru the internet. Having completed an elective from a prestigious university may fare differently for a person's career.

Or perhaps other state universities should only include blockchain courses? What do you think? This will be a good curricular, specially if they would include it as some form of electives specially for state universities and not just private universities such as Ateneo, as we all know is one of the top notch schools so obviously the pay is going to be very expensive.
9171  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: There is always a chance on: February 22, 2019, 03:05:06 PM
Yes, there's that 1 chance that you can hit the jackpot whatever the odds maybe. Definitely the luck factor as well, if it's really the day that you're going to win then no one can hold it back against you. A bet a few in our national lottery as well, sadly my lady luck is not on my side, so I just decided to not buy any tickets anymore. But for those who have won, it's going to be a life changer and do hope that they won't wasted it and learn to re-invest and make more money.
9172  Economy / Speculation / Re: John McAfee Predicts The Exact Date Of Bitcoin Reaching $1,000,000 on: February 22, 2019, 02:43:21 PM
~snip~
I agree with you that even though it is from him, it is certainly too much to expect such a price in less then 2 years. Motives for such statements may be just in the fact that he will not be alive at that time, or that he has some information we do not have, in the sense that something really big is going to happen before the end of 2020. I just think he is not count on next halving as something big Wink

Or maybe he wanted his bitcoin to grow and he needed funds because he is running for the US Presidency,  Grin

https://ethereumworldnews.com/john-mcafee-cryptocurrency-presidential-campaign-2018/

I guess everyone has its own motive behind, nevertheless, we all know how eccentric John is, that we shouldn't take his words seriously. If it happen in 2020, then good for us, if not then we shouldn't be disappointed, at least crypto is here to stay.

9174  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NEM Philippines Helps Universities Provide Blockchain Electives on: February 21, 2019, 05:59:48 PM
NEM is pretty big in the country specially with their recent launch of the Loyalcoin token they have heavily partnered up with a lot of local businesses to make the token more stronger. I wonder if it is somehow connected but I do think its the reason why NEM is making a big move in the country because one of their tokens is doing great in terms of usage and in trading. If this becomes successful maybe top universities will be the one asking first instead of them. Philippines is really attracting a lot of attention from the blockchain industry.

Perhaps that's their plan, to be one of the stronghold in terms of blockchain technology in the Philippines and somewhat promote their newly launch Loyalcoin. Maybe they believed that Asia specially the Philippines in the forefront on this new revolution. Philippines has a big market for technology as a lot of good programmers usually come from the country and India. So it could set a precedent as well for other top rated universities to start offering blockchain courses.
9175  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Boxing: Mikey Garcia vs Errol Spence on: February 21, 2019, 05:11:10 PM
I think a fight is equal to an exam , it takes preparation , training and dedication. The one fighter which takes the fight more seriously should be a favourite.

I think though that in a boxing match the stamina, the resistence is also a key point to decide the winner. Who can resist more without KO he can fight back and win the game.

At the end of the day, it still boils down as to who really wanted to win, and the fighter who has a big heart usually takes it. Here's a video of greatest hits of Errol Spence,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ca0hh-MBh4

He is also a good body puncher as well.
9176  Economy / Speculation / Re: JP Morgan creating their own bitcoin storyboard with the help of Bloomberg on: February 21, 2019, 04:45:41 PM
I'm sure bitcoin enthusiast know it better than those supposedly journalist in crypto. It's just a coincidence and we all know for a fact that JPM is just creating their own private token so we couldn't say it's cryptocurrency per se and it has nothing to do with the recent price boost. Many FOMO because SEC will review two Bitcoin ETF's that's why the price seems to pick up and had touch $4k again, however the price is didn't sustained though.
9177  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Short or long term? on: February 21, 2019, 07:00:09 AM
Personally, I wouldn't go short in this trend. It looks like we are off and running so it's hard to short at this point. I would rather join the wave  and see where it will take us, it could end around $4500-$5K. With that said, I would go long and see how it goes.

This is just my opinion, always remember that there are risk involved, so it's really up to you to make the final decision.
9178  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Samsung confirms the rumor! on: February 21, 2019, 06:39:46 AM
This is a welcoming news for everyone, specially though techie out there, who loves to have the latest technology on their hand.  Grin. This could be a win win situation for samsung and the crypto enthusiast. Now we enjoy the best of both worlds. And it could also push the price of crypto if buyers want to take advantage of this latest embedded crypto wallet in their smart phone. The price though is my main concern, so let's see how apple will react though, are they going to include in their next apple phone as well?
9179  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2019 NBA Pre-Season on: February 21, 2019, 06:02:06 AM

Kobe is one of the most overrated players, he was a ballhog that shot a low fg%.  Shaq carried him to his first 3 rings and Pau Gasol was the better player in the other 2 finals.

Shaq and Pau Gasol did great during their championship time but if Kobe will not be the way he is during that time, Lakers are surely doomed. Try to check what Kobe did during 2001-2003 why Lakers got into playoffs. And in one final game, Game 6 NBA Finals, they almost got killed by Sacramento Kings even with prime Shaq and Kobe. Smiley If Kobe didn't do a ballhog like you said during the whole tenure of Kings vs Lakers, they will lose. Kobe is the main scorer. Shaq got strong defense by Chris Webber. Thanks for the refs though they won the finals Cheesy

Sacramento Kings that time has the tools to beat the Lakers, unfortunately, Shaq and Kobe was too much for them. Divac and Webber and even Pollard can't do anything against Shaq that time, Kobe was also unstoppable, Doug Christie one of the best defenders might have contributed to some of Kobe's ballhog that time though,  Grin. Yeah, there are reports during that time that the refs favor Lakers, even Tim Donaghy had admitted that the refs and the match are being fixed so that Lakers will continue to win and their dominance in the NBA.
9180  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2019 NBA Pre-Season on: February 17, 2019, 09:49:15 AM
Ergh! The slam dunk contest was not that really awesome. It was though because the veterans are being used to be dunked on.  Grin

I also expecting something different this year. But I would agree that it was tough to see legends and veterans being dunked on.

The Skills challenge is a little fun. Although with the slow movement of Jason Tatum he made something miraculous to get that three point way far using the glass.

That three point makes the difference, it was fun to see him throwing and hitting it.

But the most awesome of all that made me WOW. It was the three point shoot out. Damn Steph Curry made perfection in three racks for the first round and then almost getting a tie for the championship just missed that one money ball.
It was a fun day at Charlotte again. Now next is Team Gianis and Team Lebron. Let us see if it will be more fun than the last one. I want some contested shots and not just like kids playing in the park.

But Curry still lost,  Grin. All eyes are now on Team Giannis vs Team Lebron. I'm sure if will be a fun and enjoyable game until the last 3-5 minutes wherein the game is and the and bragging rights is on the line.
