921  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Looks like some of the big pools in china are having DNS problems on: November 26, 2021, 12:47:06 AM
Discussing this in the KanoPool Discord room:

yeah that's correct but I get different answers every 2nd try
(to 8.8.8.Cool
oh it's just stopped doing it 🙂
only giving correct answers now

you'll get random different answers - not just that one
well don't trust them then 😄
Yeah it's definitely something china is doing internally. I just did a ns lookup for kano.is from a vm inside china to one of my dns servers (outside china) and got a completely wrong answer - a single incorrect ip. But doing it from outside china gets the correct answer (2 ips)
The actual reply was also completely wrong it said the TTL was 192s which is wrong, a *.is must be at least 1day and kano.is is that 86400
So I guess china's GFW is doing some DNS fuckery to screw with it's residents
Hmm - maybe it's only mining?
I tend to agree with Kano's last statement about the GFW tho doesn't explain why a lot of other DNS sites around the globe were foobarred for a bit.
922  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2021, time for a new general & diff speculation thread... on: November 24, 2021, 09:51:39 PM
...
P.S. My post got deleted, I dont know why, I'm new here but I'm open for guidance on what I did wrong.
Considering I have not yet needed to delete any posts in this thread (my thread and self-moderated) it had to be one of the Forum mods that did it.

What did you post: Clickbait links? Suspicious links? Duplicates of posts in other threads? Any of those will attract the attention of the Forum mods.
As Phil said, ja this thread and area is primarily for discussion of only BTC but--I have no problems with posts regarding shitcoins as long as the primary focus of the post deals with BTC.
923  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience has a new stickminer that does 300+GH on: November 24, 2021, 02:25:18 PM
Kano,
Can you point to any documentation on how BTC pool mining actually works?
Well you could just check out the help area on his pool... Start at https://kano.is/index.php?k=mining
924  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Coinbase uses PLAID to connect my bank account? on: November 22, 2021, 10:03:01 PM
Ya know, if you simple do a search for 'PLAID' you find that it is a banking ACH verification application and is used by MANY large organizations. Banks, insurance companies and other companies that deal with ACH payments use it.
925  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin logo on: November 22, 2021, 09:54:10 PM
Changing the BTC logo rates right up there with when UPS (very briefly) tried changing their logo and livery color -- a TERRIBLE idea! As others have already said, the BTC logo is a well established and recognized trademark, why on God's little green earth would anyone feel there is a need/reason to change it?  Huh
926  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Miner Cooling - Push or Pull? on: November 22, 2021, 03:21:11 AM
There is no difference, all that matters is total airflow through the systems and both ways can do it.
That said, it is always easier to provide positive pressure vs suction even if only because positive pressure makes it easier to overcome leaks and eliminates any building ventilation concerns when using gas appliances such as water heaters, stoves and heating.
927  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Any know: C19 plug to be powered by 2x c13 or 2xc19 plugs? on: November 20, 2021, 03:46:52 AM
That out of the way, possible causes for popping fuses/breakers:
a. Line voltage is too low, what is your line voltage? Does is vary a lot during the day?
b. What is the rating of the breaker/fuse that trips? The A1166-Pro pulls 3,420w and at 208v line that means it is drawing 16.4A. The PDU circuit must be rated for at least 18A to safely carry that load 24x7.

My guess is that the miner is fine and the OP is simply overloading the PDU circuit.

IF that is the case - lose the PDU and directly wire the miner to a 20A circuit. Without knowing how the PDU circuits are wired it is highly inadvisable to try combining power from 2 outlets to feed the miner and even if one does know how they are wired it is still very bad practice to combine power like that.

Ja Bitmain appears to do that with their miners (2x power inlets) BUT their PSU's are internally using 2x smaller PSU's each rated for 1/2 of the total load and ran in a master/slave parallel mode to form 1 large PSU. They are not directly tying the 2 power inlets together to feed 1 large PSU. With the S17/19's each power inlet feeds just 1 of the (smaller) PSU's which means technically they can be powered by separately protected circuits (but that is still a bad idea).

To the fair, at least the OP asked about the idea before blindly actually trying to do it so kudos to them for that  Wink
928  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Which miners have the best quality? on: November 19, 2021, 07:45:05 PM
Most any of the Avalon's from Canaan. Up to the A9xx they are near bulletproof. Starting with the A10x on up the main part of the miners have very few problems reported BUT as is common these days with Ants, the PSU's are their biggest problem area -- but still very few failures reported vs Ants.
929  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Any know: C19 plug to be powered by 2x c13 or 2xc19 plugs? on: November 19, 2021, 01:18:51 PM
This ^^ is why the general public should not be allowed to tinker with high power devices...  Roll Eyes
If a device pulls substantially more power than it is supposed to and starts popping breakers/fuses, you find out why and fix the problem. You do NOT try feeding it more power! What, you won't be happy until it fails in some spectacular fashion and starts a fire?
930  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience has a new stickminer that does 300+GH on: November 13, 2021, 02:39:03 AM
So more testing.  I put 3 of these on a Win 10 Home x64 machine (Clean install, literally NOTHING on it) that has a 7 gen intel I-7 and seeing 55% CPU usage on that machine while running CGminer with 3 compac-f units
...
Is this high CPU utilization (55% of 7gen i-7) normal for just 3 units?
You have the Zadig USB driver loaded? I'm running 1 F at 425MHz along with 2 Newpacs on a very old Lenovo mini-PC -W7, dual-core Atom, 2GB memory and they cruise along nicely, CPU Meter reports 15% usage.
931  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official FutureBit Apollo BTC Software/Image and Support thread on: November 12, 2021, 08:55:50 PM
You would need to use Kano's updated cgminer to run the CompacF because you need the driver he wrote for the S17 chip...
932  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Small Immersion system, modular. on: November 12, 2021, 07:23:04 PM
If you look under the Hardware area you will find several threads about this...
Main thing is do NOT use mineral oil! It attacks plastics (like on wiring) making them brittle, rather poor thermal capacity and can cause corrosion of copper & metal parts. ref https://www.engineeredfluids.com/post/corrosive-sulfur-in-mineral-oil-a-killer-app-for-electronics

One thread is here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5366598.msg58221683#msg58221683

As for the plethora of YouTube vids... As with all things there, take what is presented with a grain of salt. Most are done by folks who really have no idea regarding the how's & why's of what they are doing  Roll Eyes
933  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Data Sheet for BM1397AG? on: November 12, 2021, 05:04:49 PM
AFAIK the s9's were the last miners that BM published chip datasheets for.

935  Other / Off-topic / Re: Best brand for laptop on: November 12, 2021, 04:34:07 PM
My long time fav are Thinkpads.
I'm one of the proverbial Road Warriors (Field service engineer) and can attest that they work for decades despite constant heavy and not often kind usage. I still have a couple from 1993-1997 when they were still under the IBM brand - but actually made for IBM by Lenovo - aside from being slow (1 is 486M, another is Pentium-M cpu) and the backlights getting dim, they still work perfectly. All ThinkPads are highly dust and water resistant with built-in gutters to drain away spills out the bottom. Never had any issues with hinges going bad nor cracked cases both of which are something very common with other makes.

Very nice thing is that Thinkpads can be easily repaired if ever needed. Lenovo carried on the IBM traditions of assembling them with screws vs 'snap & crack' housing latches, providing actual repair manuals and of course parts lists. Currently using a ThinkPad P15 workstation w/gen 10 i7, 16gb memory & NVIDIA® Quadro RTX graphics. That replaced my T410 circa 2010 which still works perfectly, is just slow because of the i3 CPU and only 4gb of memory.

FYI: When IBM exited the small PC market starting in 2004 there was a massive outcry from users regarding the fate of the near-bulletproof ThinkPads. Lenovo paid attention to that and on May 1, 2005 paid IBM a very tidy sum of money to buy all rights to the ThinkPad brand name along with all other IBM PC's and continue production of this top-end gear. Ja ThinkPads are pricey but well worth it.

As for the other Lenovo laptops - meh. Still very well built for being 'Consumer grade' but they ain't ThinkPads...

PLEASE edit your post to use the code tag from the toolbar. It looks like this #
Text walls are very hard to follow, using the code tag changes that into a much more readable scrollable box format.
938  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Any good mining hardware to max 500-600$ on: November 11, 2021, 09:07:13 PM
If you mean hardware that is meant to earn a profit -- NO.
Now if you just want to play the lottery by solo mining then there is this https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5355470.0

And for Gods sake -- PLEASE edit your post to use the code tag on the toolbar! It looks like # and changes those 2 hard-to-follow walls of text into a scrollable box format...
940  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Core 0.19.1 and CGminer for solo mining on: November 11, 2021, 04:40:39 PM
You do NOT use a separate version of cgminer to run ants. The s9 is a stand-alone miner...
You need to use either the official firmware downloaded from Bitmain or use one of the more tweakable forked versions of it that has been modified by a couple folks who btw are violating the cgminer license by not publishing their source code.
