921  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is your solution to pay less Fee ? on: November 27, 2023, 06:13:10 AM
I wouldn't say all altcoins have an actual utility as you say, but many of them or several of them at least, are currently more useful than Bitcoin for the main current use cases of the blockchain technology : Web3, DeFi, GameFi, DAO, NFT, smart contracts, dApps, tokens, obfuscation, instant payments/transactions, cheap ones,... It's sad but currently BTC is almost useless for me because of its very high fees and the lack of adoption of the Lightening Network by merchants and platforms.

Bitcoin is almost useless for you? Why not tell your campaign manager not to pay you in bitcoin because it is not useful for you.

Altcoins are useful than bitcoin? Becuase the fall under DeFi, NFT, Web3, smart contract, dApps, tokens, instant payment/transactions, cheap ones? Are you serious. Most of what you listed are what scammers and hackers are using to make money and the recent advanced ponzi scheme are becuase of that

The only point you have is transaction fee. Then do not use bitcoin.

When it comes to utility, bitcoin is far useful. But when it comes to scam and hack, altcoins are mostly useful for scammers.

For fee, you can use lightning network.

Bitcoin is useful to the extent that you can use those altcoins, side chains instead. They are not bitcoin but they developers have bitcoin that they bought and pegged with it.

What about Ordinals and Inscriptions? They are also not done by bitcoin developers but that is part of the usefulness of bitcoin blockchain.

What I see about you is that you are not happy with how the transaction fee is, but bitcoin is far more useful for me. It also has the highest secure blockchain.

Bitcoin is accepted as a legal tender in El Salvador and CAR.
922  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How Many Bets to Know How Good Enough You Are? on: November 26, 2023, 09:16:18 PM
Even with 1- 5 bets you can still measure yourself in percentage to see how many grade or percentage you have based on how many games you have won. But what really matters is your profitability and not how many bets you have entered for.
1 to 5 bets to be used to know how good someone is? That is not possible. Haven't you gambled before and win 5 consecutive times and then followed by losses?  I have gambled for a whole day before and I won all the matches I gambled with football live matches that day and it was a good day for me. I gambled with more than 20 matches that I won all that day. But losses follower the next day.
923  Economy / Economics / Re: Central Banks keeping secret about CBDC blockchains on: November 26, 2023, 08:42:02 PM
There is no secret about CBDCs, it is fiat. If you know how to use fiat already online, CBDCs is of no use to that kind of people. The government are only wasting money on CBDCs because they are not needed. I do not know if it is to trick people to believe that they are cryptocurrencies, but CBDCs are not cryptocurrencies.

Well, why are they useless? CBDC has its advantages over fiat money, e.g. cheaper international transfers, faster transfers compared to bank transfers, 24/7 access compared to fiat money which is not available when banks are closed on weekends. Understandably, there are disadvantages. These are first of all centralization, also, the central banks of different countries have their CBDCs, that is, if you live in the US, you cannot have the CBDC of the Bahamas, for example. And a number of others.
Have you used CBDC before for transaction and the cross border transaction is cheaper? Do not let us deceive ourselves. The government are the ones that is regulating both fiat and CBDCs, they control everything and they can make the fee cheap. I have not seen any CBD used for international transaction. Can you point to one?

In my country, I still have some banks that have 0 fee transactions for certain number of times daily or monthly but you have to pay fee for CBDC that my country created.

The only difference is that CBDCs use blockchain but fiat did not and nothing more. But they are all still fiat.

The government supposed to have improved their fiat but going for CBDC. I will never use it because it is fiat.

925  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [GUIDE] How to Safely Download and Verify Electrum [Guide] on: November 26, 2023, 10:03:09 AM
I've been without access to my desktop computer for awhile so I haven't udpated electrum in roughly 1 year now. I don't remember how I verified the PGP signature before. I'm sure this question has been asked before but if I'm using a hardware wallet with electrum like a ledger nano s for example do I need to worry about my crypto being stolen still or is it just a nuisance to have to deal with it?
This thread is about how to download Electrum and verify its PGP signature, it is not about connecting hardware wallet to Electrum secure or not. It would have been better if you create a new topic about anything that is not related to this thread.

As for your question, using hardware wallet with Electrum is safe. But you have to be careful about Ledger devices becuase they are one of the worst hardware wallets so far.
926  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The best game with a cryptocurrency deposit? on: November 26, 2023, 06:12:24 AM
The reason why most online casinos are now jumping into the crypto wagon is due to the fact that it is far easy to play games using them. With fiat you have to wait for your funds to credit for a few day but with crypto it is instant.
Maybe since 10 years ago is what you are referring to. Bank transaction for gambling site deposit takes less than 5 seconds. I can even say it takes just 1 second. The deposit are very fast. But maybe in your country, the fiat gambling sites have longer deposit time which is frustrating.

The popularity of cryptocurrency casino proves how much the gambling industry is changing. The way online fiat casinos are adopting crypto shows how fast crypto is getting adopted for gambling purpose.
Since when bitcoin was created, one of the main area it is useful is on online gambling.
927  Other / Archival / Re: NeuroticFish, on default trust, using trust feedback to side with a known abuser on: November 25, 2023, 08:51:19 PM
@digaran, let me advice you. If you continue like this, you will have more DT members giving you negative trust and it is not just helping your account if reputed members on this forum are giving you negative trust. I will advise you to just mind your own business and not thinking that DT members are bad.
928  Other / Meta / Re: Delete my account on: November 25, 2023, 12:41:20 PM
You can delete your posts manually; Bitcointalk doesn't have a "delete user" feature.
Or did you mean he can edit his post? Because no user can also delete post. But a post can be edited to del and also be reported to moderators for a moderator to delete it. But the post can not be deleted/removed by the user. Or probably it is a typo and you meant can't delete.

I think you can delete your personal posts on threads after 24 hours but cannot delete a thread you create yourself and that’s what I thought he meant.
My post is not exactly accurate and I have deleted it. But this is what I meant:

I am not referring to other posts but topics. You can delete you post immediately after you post it, but on some board like service board which I noticed, you will have to wait for 24 hours before you can delete your post there. But if it is a topic, you can not delete it.
929  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Avoid auto save of passwords online on: November 25, 2023, 11:54:14 AM
I agree with you. Saving passwords in browsers can be risky. And Browsers are not made for this. And Browsers don't have much security which can bear a hack.
That is even better but also not also good because hackers can use it to steal information if they have access to the browser. But the worst is that the password are also saved on an online cloud, just like if you are using an Android device, if you auto save or save a password on an app or any browser, it will also be saved on Google cloud.

In the first row I write the Name of platform.
In the second row I write Username. (Which I used in platform)
In the third row I write the Email.
In the fourth row I write the Password .

By doing this I find password easily when I need it. And in my point of view this is a good method instead you save your password online.
For offline safety, I do not do mine like this. I just only put down the password. I do not include include email and any other thing. I mostly use not more than 5 emails and I use just two most of the time. And one email more frequently.
930  Other / Archival / Re: When a mod locks a topic, can OP unlock it again? on: November 25, 2023, 08:03:43 AM
If moderator lock a topic, OP of the topic can not unclok the topic unless moderator unlock it again.

Is it reasonable to ask a mod to lock the thread until OP could provide evidence? Where is the red line of misinformation and deliberate spreading of lies to damage Bitcoin?
Even without any evidence, no moderator will lock the thread because of that reason. There are many lying posts that I have seen on this forum and non were locked becuase moderators also do not know if it is true or not.

Also from the thread, some people will learn from the thread as some people will explain why using cold wallet to store your coins is safer instead of hot using wallets.
931  Economy / Economics / Re: Usdt tether buying btc the USDT might decouple of real USD on: November 24, 2023, 04:08:42 PM
I have heard about this few months ago and I can remember that we discussed about it on this forum at the time. Tether gold just few amount in bitcoin and hold most of its asset in treasury bonds.

Tether's holdings of U.S. Treasury Bills hit $55.8 billion, up 5.2% from the end of March, while non-U.S. Treasury Bills rose to $62.9 million, up more than 30% from the previous quarter, the report said.

Tether also counts $115 million of corporate bonds, $3.3 billion of precious metals, $1.7 billion worth of bitcoin, $5.5 billion of secured loans and $2.4 billion of unspecified "other investments" in its holdings.

The recent news about Tether is the bitcoin mining business that the company want to start with 500 million or something like that.

932  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Most gamblers do not believe they can consistently make money, that's why... on: November 24, 2023, 11:23:54 AM
The fact that some of us are gambling doesn't mean we shouldn't tell the truth. You may find it hard to believe but it's just a fraction of gamblers that can boast of some level of consistency in profit making and achieving success through gambling, the rest are running into losses and huge one for that matter. The ugly truth is that most persons acknowledge these losses but they're optimistic that one day they could be lucky and their big win might be able to cover for their losses.
I lost in gambling than making money. If the total profit and loss should be calculated, I lost more. And it is not just that I lost more, I lose far more. You are not wrong, because wẹ are gambling or because we lose money, that does not means we should be lying to newbie gamblers for them to lose more before they realize. We do not say they should not gamble, but they should not gamble with the amount of money that they can not afford to lose and they should not see gambling in a way that making money is guaranteed, it is just a force sense of reasoning which they will start to realize after severe losses.
933  Other / Meta / Re: Delete my account on: November 24, 2023, 11:18:32 AM
I want to delete my account and all the messages and threads I created.
You can not delete your account, that is not possible on this forum, especially when you are not a reputed member that theymos can turn to anonymous which is the only thing that can be done.

But you can just forget about the account, forget the email used and the password and you will be good like your account as been deleted.
934  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Got hacked, lost 11 BTC on: November 24, 2023, 08:09:23 AM
At most, rely on some service to "track" these coins...
That is a huge amount of money and it might be good for him to track the coin. If the coin is sent to an exchange, it is possible that the hacker can be known. But hackers are smart, it is possible that the hacker used a noncustodial wallet and he may also mix the coin before spending it. It is better to avoid hack than to be looking for solution which might be difficult and expensive to get or which might be impossible to get.
935  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is your solution to pay less Fee ? on: November 24, 2023, 05:57:07 AM
Currently, the transaction fees have increased tremendously due to the increase in mempool. If there was a system in place to minimize these transaction fee increases, Signature campaign managers would have known and sent Signature weekly payments with a small fee. From here I think there is no system to reduce the mempool.
The mempool is not increasing or decreasing, it can only be congested or not congested which I think is what you are talking about. You can see how the mempool had over 289000 transactions some days ago and the fee was very high, unlike now that it has over 212000 transactions that the fee is lower but not that low. As more transactions are not confirmed but remain in mempool is the congestion that I am talking about.
936  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is\will Bitcoin become unaffordable to use? on: November 23, 2023, 08:02:43 PM
But even a $5 fee to make a simple transaction seems high. Even if it was only $1 it would be high.
If Bitcoin is meant to be an alternative to fiat, wouldn't the fees need to be only a few tenths of a cent to make it an everyday currency to use?
It is high in amount to some people, but not high in amount to some people. There will be a time the mempool will become less congested and lower fee is going to be used again for making transaction. But if you do not want to be making use of high fee, you can use lightning network. You can have small amount of money on lightning network account. If you are not technical enough to use lightning network on noncustodial wallet or having your own channel, you can use the custodial lightning network which is easy and you can just use it with small amount of money.
937  Other / Meta / Re: Understanding Multiple accounts (newbie) on: November 23, 2023, 02:36:14 PM
I think that's would be called ban evasion but I don't see this rarely happen because the person that have being ban would try to do everything to try and cheat the system and since their is no special system deviced for this kind of case it would be difficult for the ban person to be caught but this can be possible somehow with how the poster behave in relation to his old account and the new one because some persons are just the same with how they posts.
The thing is that the forum can make use of tools that can recognize and link ban evaders to their previous accounts. This can be done with some tools that can know the exact device and the IP address used and be used to link the accounts together. But the forum is doing nothing about it just as you said. This is just one of the things which this forum only take lightly which is good like that, unless another user is able to link the accounts and report it for ban evasion.

939  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you believe in psychic betting? on: November 23, 2023, 11:05:39 AM
so for me it's just a coincidence if it's true and I'm sure there are more wrong predictions than right ones, it's just that the media will report more on the right ones so it seems like it's something that can be used to increase odds in lottery or others type of gambling.
I will say it may be a coincidence, but there are also bad gambling news on the media. If you read news very well, you will read about the bad sides too. There are some that were taken to this forum and there were some I have read on the news. This year, I have read a student in my country that killed himself because he used his school fee money to gamble and lose. I do not think this was more 5 months ago.

There are some people that were living a good and comfortable life before, but gambling changed it and they regret. It is important not to take the wrong step while gambling, we should just gamble with the amount of money that we can afford to lose and also not believing in all these spirituality that can cause us more harm than good.
940  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Two Carreer skill benefit of gambling on: November 23, 2023, 10:54:32 AM
You can build your self esteem and socializing with other people if you are gambling in an actual casino areas but is it applicable if you're doing gambling thru online site? since a lot of gamblers more likely to choose playing online casino site rather than going outside because it is convenient for them.
If you are gambling online, this may not help the socialization, but it will be good for land based gamblers to socialize. I can be gambling and my co-workers to be gambling but of which we may not really get close because of that if it is online gambling. I may not even bother to let anyone know that I am gambling. There are also other things that can bring socialization that are not gambling related.
