hi, i am trying to trade on margin and am not sure when i will be margin called. i asked support and they sent me this explanation which reads like greek to me
Yes we recently made some change. You will get a margin call if your net value, that is, your trading balance converted in USD + your unrealized loss + your unrealized swap in less than your margin requirements (5%) * the base price of your position * the size of your position.
can someone please explain how margin calls work and what percentages and stuff i need?
imo this can help you https://community.bitfinex.com/showwiki.php?title=Margin+Call

Okay the one thing I have seen is that if the tool tried to download from the very begining (i.e. start=0) then fails much more then say its trying to catchup for the last couple of days. So It may help to import recent data and then try to download the rest and re-sync. I have uploaded two files in this folder. one SCID and one exported txt file up until the last few minutes (Apr 14 2013 12:53 PST). Hope it helps. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/cwy8hlg8yeyywtj/izpwnQBVrkthe time for the data is UTC format or is on your local pc time ? If I remember right (it has been a long time since I set it up), they were in the exchange's local time (tho I think a couple converted to UTC) You can adjust that in the individual graph's settings with an offset to your local time. -- Smoov the feed is saved on your PC time and you need to change the settings in SC to get all time on UTC if you dont believe me start a VM put the feed and look at what time is saved

Still there were some serious jumps, only this time downwards, not up. This could hint at errors or still some issues - if the next time this jumps up again suddenly instead, it might again force liquidate all VIR positions...
it went down because of the volume 800k versus 200k is quite allot so when ppl took 400k in loans below vir that did pull down the VIR

too-bad: this shit seemt to be quite good 22:56
too-bad: *seems 22:56
too-bad: i made around 50-70 profitable virtual trades, and around 20 closed at slight loss

Just started using your site.
Interesting. I am glad that I can get some interest on my bitcoins that would have otherwise just been sitting somewhere.
But I tried some margin trading and after borrowing some dollars to then trade I put in the order and it just sat there. I put it in at market and the price kept dropping and the order never went through.
Either way, I will just stick with lending for now.
if mtgox is lagging it will take some time :/
