9221  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano S is not safe!! on: March 13, 2021, 09:02:17 AM
Sure. Ledger Live is just like any other piece of software. Malware could target it and change a transaction you are creating in the software. What it can't do, however, is change what shows up on the screen of your hardware wallet. So if malware altered a transaction you were making in Ledger Live, whatever alterations it made would show up in the screen of your Ledger Nano.
What about when you create receiving addresses in Ledger Live? You suggested that if a malware changed the address in Ledger Live, that same address would be displayed on the screen of your Ledger hardware wallet as well. Is that correct?

If that is true, how would the user know that he is about to confirm a transaction that will be sent to the wrong address?
If malware changes the address in Ledger Live, then this changed address will be what shows up on your hardware wallet, which you will notice when you double check and therefore not sign.
If the two addresses match, but a malware caused you to generate an address that doesn't belong to your wallet, how would the user know that?
I always thought that it wasn't possible to pair your hardware wallet with a fake Ledger Live software. Upon connecting, the Ledger device should notice that it's communicating with a fake app. The biggest treat is inserting your recovery phrase in the fake software, which is how people lose money.
9222  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Trust Wallet - is it secure? on: March 13, 2021, 08:39:05 AM
What device are you planning to install the wallet on, and are you looking for a Bitcoin-only or a multi-coin software wallet? Depending on if you use an Android or iOS operating system, we might recommend better alternatives. Trust Wallet allows you to exchange different coins from within the app and you can purchase bitcoin with a credit card. If these features aren't that interesting to you, you might want to check out Mycelium or the Samourai wallet for its privacy features.

9224  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: POLL: Have You Ever Used the Lightning Network? on: March 13, 2021, 07:54:07 AM
Are Casascius Coins bitcoins or are they holding BTC?
You aren't the first one to suggest that the Lightning Network isn't Bitcoin. Casascius coins are Bitcoin as much as Electrum, Core, Ledger or any other implementation is Bitcoin. They are not, but they store your keys and allow for easy transfers of digital values. I can't agree with you that LN isn't Bitcoin, because as PrimeNumber7 mentioned, you are transferring BTCs over the network. More precisely, two parties are signing a balance sheet where they agree what each of the participants gets when it's time to close the channel. Although those transactions don't get broadcast on the blockchain, they affect what the final balance (in bitcoins) will be.
9225  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: New Ledger phishing mail targets individual users on: March 13, 2021, 07:34:07 AM
It seems that the situation with phishing emails is slowing down. Me and my friend haven't seen any new scamming attempts for weeks. But the scammers aren't asleep and they are trying new things. I just noticed one example that ended up in a spam folder on an email address that is not connected with my Ledger purchase. The mail was sent 2 days ago.

They are now expanding the scope of their activities to Trezor users hoping that the same group that purchased Ledger hardware wallets, own Trezor devices as well. The content of the email is pretty much the same. Customers are informed that Trezor servers have been hacked and infected with malware. To prevent the loss of funds, they instruct users to download updated software and input their seed phrases.

some of the components of the website will be not available for limited time period, such as Jackmate,
I hope the downtime won't affect the picks we submitted for last week's Jackmate fantasy competition. I had a pretty decent run with some good results. Haaland scoring two goals as my captain, Salah and Mbappe getting one each, and Cuadrado contributing to the final result with an assist. Unfortunately, Cuadrado also ended up being booked and his team conceded two goals. I am going to lose points on putting Tek Szczesny in goal as well.
9227  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano S is not safe!! on: March 12, 2021, 09:40:10 AM
Walk us through the entire process of you purchasing, configuring, and receiving Bitcoin on your Ledger device. There are already a bunch of questions for you to answer, so I wont be repeating those. Check your browsing history and copy/paste the site where the wallet was purchased from.

Where did you send those coins from and was the transaction ever confirmed on the blockchain? Or did you just see a balance update in Ledger Live?
How does the device look? Does it look like it has been opened? Check the hardware integrity article from Ledger and compare it with the wallet you have (https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005321449-Check-hardware-integrity).

Have you received any phishing mails recently that looked like they came from official Ledger support that asked you to download an updated software because your funds might be in jeopardy?
9228  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Lightning node for fees on: March 12, 2021, 08:49:43 AM
I don't want to discourage you from using the Lightning Network, but if you do it solely to earn on the routing fees expecting to make a decent income, I am afraid you will be disappointed. You won't be able to pay off the purchased hardware by routing payments. Someone correct me If I am wrong, but if you were to route hundreds of thousands of payments, you wouldn't even make $1. Because the money is routed through the cheapest channels. If your route is more expensive than the guy next to you, he will be the one whose channel is likely to be used.

On the other hand, if you want to experiment with off-chain transactions and taking the load off from the main Bitcoin blockchain, that's a great thing to do.
9229  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Fate or lack of control - Gambling on: March 12, 2021, 08:33:01 AM
I really don't think the universe or God (if you believe in God) decided that you will lose on Dice. Those are excuses that people come up with to make their personal losses or failures seem to be out of their control. You decide what to do. It was not written in the stars.

Gamblers lose money for various reasons:
- They are unlucky.
- They are never satisfied with what they got or won, and they want more.
- They don't understand that the house edge in every game will eventually work against them.

If you won once or twice, you are already performing better than many other players. Don't push it. Take your money and spend it on something you need away from the tables and the machines.

Some of his other threads seem to be copy-pasted as well. I checked only one after I saw your reply in his most recent topic in Beginners & Help. I doubt this user has any intentions to change his behavior.

The quoted post below is plagiarized from https://www.researchgate.net/post/Will_Bitcoins_vanished_in_one_day_when_we_woke_up

Is there a situation where we woke up one day and found out all our bitcoins vanished?

Blockchain or DLT has a simple definition where it is designed to solve double spending problem which represent a unique transaction that are solve through the computers in a network.

Blockchain is in fact considered as a collection of
transactions in a block that is store in a peer to peer basis and each of its block is linked with the SHA-256 algorithm, timestamp network to solve the double-spending problem.

This principle also introduced the reality of immutable transaction feature to the computing world. So, having understand such definition, is our believed that this would be immutable as it claims or anyone has proven that such immutable resistance is exist as of today ?
9231  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: POLL: Have You Ever Used the Lightning Network? on: March 12, 2021, 07:29:32 AM
however, the risk of losing the coin is near zero because if your counterparty were to attempt to double-spend this transaction, they would be risking a near-certain loss of far greater funds.
The person who created and opened the payment channel is risking losing his whole deposit if he attempts to manipulate the off-chain transactions. The risk is not the same for the other participant in the channel because he didn't deposit his own coins. What you described will be a great manipulation prevention method when dual funded channels get implemented. That way, both parties can fund the channel and they risk losing their money in case of fraudulent attempts.
9232  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Can Lightning Network Hubs be owned by banks? on: March 11, 2021, 08:15:36 PM
I think it is the fear of losing money to a bug. I don't follow LN closely but I hear the LN devs warn people about possibility of bugs and how they shouldn't use it with large amounts. It is understandable that an exchange doesn't want to bother with the technology until it is matured.
There is a great article on the topic of LN vulnerabilities. I don't know if you have read it, but if you are interested, here is the link > https://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-lightning-network-vulnerabilities-not-exploited-yet.

One of the most severe threats is called a Time-dilation eclipse. The article mentions that light clients, such as Blue Wallet or Phoenix Wallet are particularly vulnerable to this attack vector. To carry out such an attack the scammer would have to create a whole network of nodes that the victim would be connected to. The victim is then only connected to malicious nodes. The scammer can deliberately slow down the process of sharing transaction data with his victim. He can close the channel and steal the coins before this data is received by the victim. That's the idea anyway.
I only know one exchange (Bitfinex) that has an LN channel and they started it with a very small capacity for this very risk, then increased it after some time passed but it is still a small capacity.
If this article can be trusted, and it seems to be up-to-date, the list of exchanges that accept LN payments is slowly on the rise. Besides Bitfinex, there is OKCoin and OKEx. Paxful has declared intention to integrate the LN...etc.
9233  Economy / Gambling / Re: ⚡️⚡️Betplay.io first Bitcoin Lightning Network payments casino now live! ⚡️⚡️ on: March 11, 2021, 07:31:10 PM
Since you have disabled support for USDT over the Ethereum network, may I suggest you consider introducing USDT over the Tron network. We currently find ourselves in a bull market and to save on transaction fees, using the Tron network seems like a convenient alternative. It would also also fit quite well with your ambition of having a casino where players don't have to lose a great deal of money on network fees.

At the bottom of the website, you have those three buttons for the Windows, iOS, and Android apps. The problem is, only the Windows logo is clickable. The reason could be that the mobile apps have not been released yet, but just in case they have, I wanted to make you aware that the buttons don't work.

I voted for Enthusiast although I could have selected Regular or Professional as well. I am here almost on a daily basis which makes me a regular. I am an Enthusiast, but I am trying to improve my Bitcoin reserves and not my altcoin holdings as it's described in your OP. I provide some off-forum services for bitcoin which would make me a part-time Professional as well.
9235  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "What happens if bitcoin succeeds?" on: March 11, 2021, 09:37:34 AM
Bitcoin is not reserved for the elites, bankers, and the royals. You, me, and everyone else have a choice to invest in it or not. This forum proves that you can earn Bitcoin even without investing by providing a valuable service, advertising, etc. Bitcoin will not create inequality in the world, we already had that before. It might not make you filthy rich, but it can help many people to afford things they otherwise wouldn't be able to purchase.

Those who entered the game early have more, assuming they didn't sell or lost their coins. Even though Bitcoin has been around for over 10 years, it's still a new monetary system and it's not to late to get involved.
9236  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Transactions validations times on: March 11, 2021, 09:20:17 AM
Exchanges overcharge their customers on withdrawal fees. That is why your withdrawal will be confirmed relatively fast. They aim for the next block confirmation. That is also the reason why you will lose the equivalent of $20-$25 per withdrawal. They pocket most of these fees because they batch transactions together and save on fees, but still overcharge their users.

When you send money from your personal wallet, you decide what the transaction fees will be (if you are using an appropriate software), and you can save a lot of money if you are not in a hurry and use low fees. Bitcoin has problems with scalability and it can't process what's being throw at it. As we speak, there are over 90vMB of unconfirmed transactions in the mempool. That is 80-85 blocks, not counting new transactions that are broadcasted constantly. https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#BTC%20(default%20mempool),2h currently shows over 43.000 unconfirmed transactions.
9237  Economy / Services / Re: Offering my avatar space for FREE and donating my 1st-week signature earnings on: March 11, 2021, 09:05:50 AM
So far, Royse777's Project Covid - 19 seems to be the most interesting idea to advertise in my avatar space. If there are no better suggestions by the end of the day, I'll probably start wearing it tomorrow.

Thanks for the suggestions but I didn't like these two. The first foundation organizes seminars on economic topics for students. The second one is confusing and they state that they are "fighting the constitutionality of Automated License Plate Readers" (https://nclalegal.org/). This is not something I am personally interested in and such systems are in place all over the world. In my country, your license plate gets scanned at various intersections to check the car registration. Those things aren't going to be removed. It's a lost battle.

Does anyone know of some other projects one can donate to?

EDIT: I have put on the Covid - 19 avatar now.
Still looking for an appropriate place to donate some funds to.
9238  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / LoyceV "Show All" Scrapper on: March 10, 2021, 08:35:59 PM

https://loyce.club/showall/4265795.html

9239  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The knowledge we seek on: March 10, 2021, 07:38:31 PM
My advice to newbies would likely be to pick atleast two or more active forum posters who has quality in their article and ensure reading their posts with proper understanding each time the post new articles and also how the reply to existing posts so as to add to your existing skill thereby adding tremendous value to your articles.
You keep using the word 'articles' instead of posts, but I understood what you were trying to say. Coyster is right. There is no reason for newbies to limit themselves to just a few posters. Instead, they should know what it is they find interesting and in which areas they want to improve. A big mistake people make is posting when they have nothing to say, and posting what they feel other members will like. Don't get involved in discussions you don't understand.

Whoever wants to learn about Bitcoin should read threads posted in Development & Technical Discussion and Bitcoin Technical Support. But if you don't have any genuine interest in Bitcoin, and you are here for other reasons, it's going to be difficult for you to get involved in the discussions there.

Be honest to yourself and participate in those boards that entertain you.
9240  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: My Football Gambling System: A Betting Experiment on: March 10, 2021, 07:19:18 PM
do you plan to do an experiment where you are betting on the top teams?
Probably not. The odds on the top teams are generally very low. To be profitable, you would have to invest more than double the amounts for each lost bet.

If you take a look at the odds that bookies give on Bayern Munich wins, for example, you would see that in the German Bundesliga they can be as low as 1.10-1.20. Even when they play away, I doubt they are rarely above 2.00. If you are interested in betting on the favorites, there is another approach you can take. You can set yourself a profit goal in your mind. For example, You bet on Bayern to win every single time. And whenever they win, your goal is to earn $20 per match. You can make this $200, or $2, whatever suits you.

Let's say the odds on the next Bayern match is 1.20. To earn $20 on this match, you would have to invest $100 on your bet. 100 x 1.2 = $120. If they win, you made a $20 profit. If they lose, you do the same thing for the next round, but this time you have to increase your stake to account for the $100 loss in your previous round.

To make it easier, let's make the odds 1.20 again. You can now bet $200, for example. If you win, you'll get a payout of $240. In those two rounds you invested a total of $200, and you won $240, earning yourself $40. As you can see, it's quite an expensive system to play.

I have started betting experiment #2 and when it's done, I will post the results on the forum.
