9361  Economy / Economics / Re: Bullish or nuts? Fidelity predicts $100M bitcoin in 2035 on: September 05, 2021, 03:20:18 AM
I think the only way for that prediction to be true is through hyperinflation otherwise I am not so sure the economy of the world and all the wealth accumulated is enough to cover that kind of price for bitcoin, but whatever the case I think we can all recognize that the price of bitcoin is going to be very high and this is good for us because that means that even our small holdings are going to be incredibly valuable in the future.

Agreed. But there is a catch. In case there is hyperinflation, then it doesn't make any sense to denominate the prices in inflated currency. We should be rather using a price prior to the start of the hyperinflation. For example, if by 2035 the purchasing power of the US Dollar goes down by 1,000 times, then while quoting the exchange rates of Bitcoin, we should be using the 2021 US Dollar, and not the 2035 USD. That means that some asset that is worth 100 million in 2035 will be having the purchasing power of just $100,000 (in 2021 Dollars).
9362  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin assets cannot be blocked - is that helping terrorists? on: September 05, 2021, 03:10:27 AM
While most of the illegal activities in the world take place in USD and I am far from saying that bitcoin is actually worse than any other asset on that regard, I have read many news about the American withdrawal from Afghanistan and how the US government froze some billions of USD belonging to the previous government or perhaps (debatable) to the country itself. Obviously, this could not have happened if those assets were held in bitcoin or other crypto. It seems that not everything is good in self-sovereignty?

BTW, this is not a statement saying that Taliban are terrorist, just wondering about some other cases in which states were clearly linked to terror.

Yes, obviously and unequivocally any financial system that cannot be blocked or sanctioned provides safe haven for terrorists and other bad actors to facilitate their illegal and harmful actions. There are people on these boards who instead of acknowledging reality get angry when you state this obvious fact. The inability to acknowledge reality disqualifies all their other opinions, as they’ve proven themselves too partisan and to irrational to be taken seriously.

And no need to equivocate. The Taliban is 100% a terrorist organization, as much now as it was before they were overthrown by the western allies.

I am not surprised by the rants from left-wing that government should control all the financial activities and there should be no anonymity. The argument is that anonymous modes of payments are being used for terror financing, and for criminal activities. But apart from these "assumptions", I am 100% sure that you don't have any concrete proof with you to link Bitcoin with Taliban. To date, there hasn't been a single incident which links the Taliban to cryptocurrency. Your argument is based on just assumptions and not real data. Taliban gets close to 100% of their funds in the form of fiat. But obviously, you don't want to focus on that part.
9363  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: September 05, 2021, 03:00:10 AM
Did anyone followed the Ireland vs Zimbabwe match yesterday? Ireland had a good start, but then Zimbabwe bowlers tightened the screws in the final overs and managed to win the match. Ireland still won the T20 series 3-2. And now the most important part of the tour starts. Ireland is supposed to play 3 ODI matches against Zimbabwe. These matches are extremely crucial for both the teams and in case Ireland manage to win at least two of these matches, then it will be easier for them to gain a direct entry to the 2023 World Cup.
9364  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: September 05, 2021, 02:50:51 AM
The lead is only 171 runs at the moment. If India wants to win this match then they have to put on at least 300 runs lead. Which will only happen if Mr Kohli and Sir Jadeja perform exceptionally well tomorrow. India is well poised to win this match only if the middle order performs. All now depends on the first session of the match and how fast Indian batsmen can score.

At the moment, the lead is only 171 runs, but you are forgetting the fact that they have 7 wickets in hand. I don't know whether 300 is achievable, but anything above 200 would hand the advantage to India. As we have seen from the previous test matches in this series, 4th innings totals are mostly below 200. Irrespective of the outcome, it can't be denied that India made an amazing comeback in this match. If they win, they will go up 2-1, and they just need to draw the final match to win the series.
9365  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can Crypto be more valuable than gold? on: September 04, 2021, 04:41:56 AM
There is no rule written in stone that Bitcoin can't be more valuable that gold. Already there are several assets, which are more valuable when compared to gold. For example, the stocks in NYSE are having a combined valuation of around $30 trillion, which is almost three times the market cap of gold. Bitcoin is just 12 years old (compared to gold, which has been in use for 5,000+ years). In another decade or so, I expect Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general to reach the same level as any other mainstream investment asset.
9366  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: September 04, 2021, 04:22:52 AM
I have also been vaccinated 2 times but must always comply with health protocols, this proves that the Covid virus is still terrible and must be watched out for, the best way to avoid Covid is to keep a distance because many people in my place don't care about health protocols and they don't even wear masks .

Perhaps everyone will soon receive their third dose (booster). Pfizer has announced that those who got fully vaccinated with their vaccine needs a booster shot every 5 to 8 months. Dr. Anthony Fauci recently stated at a White House press briefing that full protection needs at least three doses of the vaccine. In the US they are witnessing around 150,000-200,000 cases per day (with fully vaccinated individuals comprising a large fraction), and a daily death toll of around 1,500. Even in the UK (which has achieved >70% vaccination) around 200 deaths are being reported every day.
9367  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why such high fees in ETH? on: September 04, 2021, 04:10:13 AM
I think the Eth Gas fee went up because it followed the selling value of the coin. the higher the price of Eth, the gas fee will also increase. However, my opinion is that Bitcoin affects the rise and fall of Eth, and if it is concluded that the possibility of rising Gas Fees is influenced by Bitcoin's rise.

I don't agree with that observation. The Ethereum Gas Tracker lists average fee for low priority transaction at 121 gwei, which translates to roughly $10. A couple of years ago, the same stood at 20-22 gwei. So in absolute terms, the fee increased by 5-10 times. And this was further amplified by the increase in exchange rates (ETH went up from $100 to $3,900 in the last 3 years). If the increase in exchange rate is the sole reason, then we should be paying similar fee with Bitcoin as well. But the BTC fee levels are extremely low now, with even transactions with fee of 1-2 Sat/Byte getting confirmed ($0.05-$0.10).
9368  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Kid already making $32k monthly through ethtereum on: September 04, 2021, 03:50:29 AM
i imagine that the price of electricity in dallas must be cheap and the father must have started with this mining business and put the children to be the cover as a way to gain more attention. I don't see how children of that age could be operating equipment as dangerous as mining equipment

Yeah.. it is just for publicity.. or for tax purposes. He can show that the children are earning income from mining, so they can pay applicable taxes at lower rates. The article mentions that the father is an investment banker and he "helped out" the children by taking a loan. Is it even possible for 14-year olds to get a loan in the United States? Their mining equipment is mostly consisting of Nvidia RTX 3090 graphics cards, and each of them costs around $3,000. That works out to an initial investment of around $300,000.
9369  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: September 04, 2021, 03:40:34 AM
The Spain vs Sweden match was a shocker. Spain ended up losing a world cup qualifier match after gap of 28 years. During this time, Spain had won 52 of their 66 matches, while the remaining 14 ended in draw. Spain became a bit complacent after Carlos Soler put them ahead in the 4th minute, and Sweden used this opportunity to level the scoreboard through Alexander Isak. But they are in comfortable position as far as the qualification is concerned. Despite the loss, they have 7 points from 4 matches and most of their remaining matches are against weak teams.
9370  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant on: September 04, 2021, 03:30:25 AM
If he is going to make accusations he should have done that when they are making a deal, not when the fight is progressing, he just wants to annoy Canelo, which I think is a cheap trick he can thrash talk him but accusing of taking an enhancement drug is very personal and putting Canelo in a bad light, whatever strategy he employs, he will have a tough time beating Alvarez.

I agree. The best strategy for Plant would be to keep a low profile, and avoid provoking Canelo. Trash talk never works in the ring, as we have seen from numerous cases earlier. All that said, I am not sure whether Plant made the statements on his own. Sometimes the organizers want cheap publicity and they ask the fighters to make such controversial statements. IMO, I don't think that it is fair to blame Canelo for the positive test from Oscar Valdez. That said, Alvarez tested positive for Clenbuterol in 2018, which he claims to have come from eating contaminated meat.
9371  Economy / Economics / Re: El Salvador retirees protest against Bitcoin as legal tender on: September 04, 2021, 03:20:09 AM
I am sure that those who protest for this reason have no idea that the main money laundering has occurred with fiat money, I think that people's ignorance has no cavity here, mainly this is because a lot of financial education is needed.

People mainly do not trust the volatility of BTC, Besides that there is a great campaign against BTC, both in the news and in the opposition of the government, all this helps that people do not understand the social problem very well, which, all it gets stuck for me for that reason.
When a person does not understand a technology, it is normal for them to lean towards the bad, which is shown by the news, actually when watching CNN in Spanish they do not recommend investing in BTC in their programs due to high volatility.

Volatility is not essentially a bad thing. When you are using Bitcoin to make payments or for remittance, if you are using a payment processor then the coins will be immediately converted to fiat currency. Neither the seller, nor the buyer need to worry about the volatility here. And mainstream media has never presented a honest picture of Bitcoin in front of the ordinary people. They would like us to believe that it is the currency of drug dealers and pedophiles, even when they don't have any proof to back it up.
9372  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: September 04, 2021, 03:00:13 AM
It's the same story on turning pitches for most touring teams. I haven't watched many of these T20 and ODIs recently but I always check scores and I saw Bangladesh recently won against NZ at home and even dominated Australia on turning pitches.

People calling these spinning tracks as rank turners also need to realize that fast bowling isn't superior to spin. If Asian teams struggle against pace then not sure why touring teams grade spinning pitches as bad or poor.

I would love to see more cricket played at some neutral venues that don't assist any particular bowling. Maybe West Indian pitches (where CPL happens) are good examples of such pitches.

It's not like anyone consider fast bowling as superior to spin. New ICC rules and the T20 format has almost killed off fast bowling. Nowadays we don't see a lot many legendary fast bowlers emerging, similar to the case a couple of decades back. It is rare to see pace-friendly surfaces even in SENA nations nowadays. Even the pitches in Perth and Kingsmead have become more batting friendly now. I am OK with spin-friendly tracks. But they should not go to the extent of making batting in these surfaces an impossible job.
9373  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: September 04, 2021, 02:51:40 AM
Indian batsman needs to bat atleast the whole Day 3 and need atleast 300 Runs on the board, that is the minmum they want so stand any chance in this match. I really hope KL Rahul and Rohit bat bit more longer and one of them need to go big may be  a 100 from Rohit is missing.

The problem is not with KL Rahul and Rohit, but with the batsmen to follow after one of them get out. Kohli has been out of form for sometime, and Pujara/Rahane are completely hopeless. I don't even want to mention Pant, because he has proved again and again that his batting style is not suitable for test cricket (especially in SENA conditions). Shardul may add some strength to the lower order, but the absence of Ashwin is going to backfire on the Indian team. A 100 plus opening stand would give a good start to India, but a total of 300 may be too much to ask for.
9374  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Don't invest more than you can afford to lose? on: September 03, 2021, 03:38:47 AM
A large amount of investment or loan investment is very risky. When the market changes and the price drops, you must bear greater risks and economic losses.

I would say that taking out a loan is the worst idea to get started with an investment in cryptocurrency, especially for altcoins (no matter how much confident the user is). But all that said, I know at least two guys, who took out a loan to invest in cryptocurrency (many years ago) and made huge profits out of their investment. But it is entirely another topic if someone want to take a similar step at current levels. The risk factor has gone up by manytimes, and I would definitely disapprove of taking loans to invest in cryptocurrency at this point.
9375  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will BNB become the king of all coins on: September 03, 2021, 03:17:17 AM
I like BNB.. everything else is good.. low transaction fee.. good technology and algorithm.etc. But in cryptocurrency sector, a lot of importance is given to decentralization. And that means that a coin that is issued by an exchange is much lower in priority for the ordinary cryptocurrency users. BNB doesn't seems to be that centralized, although it is issued by Binance. But the normal user think so. BUSD may be completely centralized, but not BNB. Unfortunately the users don't differentiate between them.
9376  Economy / Economics / Re: El Salvador retirees protest against Bitcoin as legal tender on: September 03, 2021, 02:57:31 AM
Hasn't El Salvador already made Bitcoin legal tender? Because I've heard that they did it long time ago. And it is not surprising to see that there are Bitcoin antagonists. It looks like their number will never go down to zero. I wonder if Bitcoin price wasn't too volatile, would they still oppose it? Because whoever I see as a Bitcoin antagonist says that the volatility is the biggest factor for not makin it legal tender.

New technologies will always face opposition. I will tell you one story. When one of the companies import a computer for the first time in India (if I remember correctly, that was in the late 80s), the communist party workers destroyed the company office in protest. They claimed that computers will result in unemployment. Three decades have passed, and the daughter of the sole remaining communist party chief minister is now the head of an IT company. Same will happen in El Salvador. Those who oppose Bitcoin today will be the biggest proponents of it tomorrow.
9377  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: September 03, 2021, 02:47:11 AM
Indian scored only 191 runs and after 3 wickets down England only trail by 138. Day 2 can be different, as English batsmen only need to create a good partnership. Yes, England has lost 3 important wickets but they still have a lot of wickets in hand. If they again repeat their performance then the Indians will lose this match too.

If Joe Root was there, then there was a chance. But he is also gone. The England lower and middle order is not in good form right now. Dawid Malan looks good, but Ollie Pope is having a highest score of 34 in 12 innings he played so far this year. And apart from one half century at Lord's, Jonny Bairstow hasn't been troubling the scorers. Moeen Ali picked up some crucial wickets, but the less talked about his batting that better. Now coming to the lower order and tail, they haven't contributed anything significant so far.
9378  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: September 03, 2021, 02:37:31 AM
Tamim has already announced that he will not play t20 world cup. It seems to be an angry move as most of the Bangladeshi people have questioned his performance including me back in the day. But this is also true that we can't find anyone playing better than him even although the last series and current series against NZ can't prove anything as the pitch is quite terrible to play. It's favoring bowler all the time.

Now the subcontinent teams are preparing tracks that give a lot of assistance to the spinners, especially against SENA nations. With the ICC implementing the ODI super league, each and every match has become a do-or-die situation, especially for lower ranked teams such as Bangladesh. They need to be in the top-8, to avoid playing world cup qualifiers. However for T20 matches, these teams may follow a more relaxed approach, as the qualification for T20 world cup is not linked to the performance in bilateral tours.
9379  Economy / Economics / Re: Bullish or nuts? Fidelity predicts $100M bitcoin in 2035 on: September 03, 2021, 02:27:22 AM
the price of bitcoin 10 years ago (2011) was only around $1, and this year the price of bitcoin hit a high of around $60k. that means for 10 years the price of bitcoin has increased 60000%. but of course the journey of bitcoin price 10 years ago with the next 10 years is very different. for most people the current price of bitcoin is too high to invest. I don't think it's possible for bitcoin to cross $100M in the next 14 years.

Back in 2009, when Bitcoin was first traded (the first cryptocurrency exchange was New Libertystandard), the exchange rate was $0.001 per coin. So the current valuation represents a 50 million times increase from those levels. But IMO, percentage increase can be misleading, and we should be looking at the absolute increase instead. The market cap increased during 2009-21 period from $2,000 to $915 billion. However, a price of $100 million per coin would mean a market cap of $2 quadrillion, which is more than 2,000 times the current price levels.
9380  Economy / Economics / Re: China - everything is fine! But everything is bad ... on: September 03, 2021, 02:17:13 AM
About India is a mystery to me in general, why India, having gained independence in the middle of the century, and having enormous potential in many areas, did not become a regional leader ?! After all, India has everything to achieve this goal! Corruption and bureaucracy exist in many highly developed countries, this is bad, but it should not be a "stumbling block"! But it seems to me that India can, and most likely should, change the situation and take its dignified position!

Being an Indian, I have to say that India's problems are very unique. Unlike other countries, where elected politicians have the most amount of power, in India it is the judiciary and bureaucracy which dominates over the government. At least the politicians are answerable to the people and else they won't get re-elected. But the Indian judiciary is extremely corrupt and inefficient. Civil disputes can take 20-30 years to reach a resolution. Strategic infrastructural projects are delayed infinitely, because the judiciary constantly issues stay orders on the flimsiest of the excuses. And the bureaucrats are not answerable to anyone and they regularly delay projects demanding bribes. Even if a bureaucrat is found to be corrupt, it is not possible for the government to fire him. The system is designed in such a way, to block any development.
