941  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin puzzle transaction ~32 BTC prize to who solves it on: October 20, 2016, 02:28:47 PM
Looks like all the transactions through 50 bits have been claimed and the 51 bit key has still not been claimed:

https://blockchain.info/tx/08389f34c98c606322740c0be6a7125d9860bb8d5cb182c02f98461e5fa6cd15

It is impossible to get all the rewards.

It is possible to get the next reward (0.051 BTC) in the sequence.

There are only 1,125,899,906,842,620 possible keys for the next unclaimed reward of 0.051 BTC.

At your rate of 5,000,000,000,000 trial per second it would only take a bit over 225 seconds to try all of them.

There is no hope of getting all the remaining rewards but it should be totally possible to get a few more small rewards from the sequence.
942  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2016-10-14] Big numbers don't mean big money on: October 15, 2016, 11:00:00 PM
So what you are saying is that OneCoin is an obvious scam, right?
943  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Is it illegal for me to sell my Bitcoins? on: October 14, 2016, 10:19:41 PM
in that manner we can also get the benefit of local bitcoins in local bitcoins we can do trade with any person in our country he will send us the money and we will send him the bitcoins so the government will not know that we are selling our bitcoins.

Purely hypothetical scenario that would never happen to someone like you or me:

1 ) You sell your Bitcoins to someone on Localbitcoins.
2 ) The person you sold the Bitcoins to uses the Bitcoins to buy illegal drugs
3 ) The government arrests this person who used the Bitcoins to buy illegal drugs
4 ) The government ask this person "where did you get the Bitcoins"
5 ) Arrested persons says you sold them to him
6 ) Said government then investigates you, your wife, you family, your business for 18 months.  They put a tracking device you your car.  They get all of your phone records and all of your text messages for the last few years (including all deleted texts).  They get all of your bank records from every bank you used for the last few years.
7 ) Finally, frustrated by the fact they cannot find any evidence of drugs or anything illegal they arrest you because they cannot find that you did anything wrong stating you must be a very clever criminal to be able to hide your criminal activity so well they could not find it.  Since they cannot find any evidence of drugs they use one of their favorite ambiguous charges: "operating a money transmittal business without a license" for selling Bitcoins through localbitcoins.
8 ) They throw you in jail.
9 ) You cry like a baby in the shower in solitary confinement in a Federal prison.
944  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Is it illegal for me to sell my Bitcoins? on: October 14, 2016, 02:38:35 PM
Yes, it is illegal for you to sell them.

If you live in Colorado.
Colorado:  the place you can't sell Bitcoins on localbitcoins.com but you can legally buy recreational pot at the corner pot store...
945  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Can't get to my bitcoins! need help! on: October 14, 2016, 05:29:45 AM
Wait for the blockchain to download/update.

If your Bitcoins do not appear after the blockchain has fully updated then you can start to worry and come back here for some help.
946  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Is it illegal for me to sell my Bitcoins? on: October 13, 2016, 05:10:02 PM
Yes, it is illegal for you to sell them.  But you can give them all to me.  PM me for the Bitcoin address to send them to.  Your welcome.
947  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is where any way to exchange USD to Bitcoins without huge % on: October 01, 2016, 09:44:14 PM

seriously? i think i'd prefer to send my money to somewhere in the same country that isn't at risk of being sued or hacked again. if you're in usd you're lucky enough to have regulated options but it does depend on what state you're in.
Yes, seriously, they are a great exchange, learned from the hack, they are secure now.  Low trading fees.

Great exchange.  Used them for years.  They did get hacked, but they learned from the hack and have greatly increased security.

949  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2016-09-30] Would a Deutsche Bank Collapse Impact Bitcoin Prices? on: October 01, 2016, 01:40:29 PM
I'm not sure if I'm quite joking or what.
I feel the same.  It is inevitable.  It will cause a lot of pain to a lot of people.  Could be while I am alive.  Could be after that but affect my child, grandchildren, etc.
950  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2016-09-30] Would a Deutsche Bank Collapse Impact Bitcoin Prices? on: September 30, 2016, 11:59:16 PM
We can always hope that this time the whole house of cards Ponzi scheme of debt based currency goes down the toilet.
951  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Payment Gateway that allows Credit/Debit Card on: September 30, 2016, 02:08:14 PM
By your own admission your product has legitimacy issues.
952  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Payment Gateway that allows Credit/Debit Card on: September 30, 2016, 02:02:42 PM
So let me get this straight.  You want someone else to take ALL the risk for you.  They take all the chargeback risk and they are on the hook for any issues related to the legality of you scheme.  Good luck with that.

You may not be a scammer but you sure sound like one,

If you are legit simply sell your product or service then buy Bitcoins on a legit exchange.  Easy.
953  Economy / Economics / Re: IS ENERGY THE CURRENCY OF THE FUTURE? YES !, AND THE BITCOIN IS IT’S FIRST COIN on: September 24, 2016, 11:14:14 AM
Bitcoins are the opposite of fiat money in every way.  Bitcoins have a limited supply, dollars have an infinite supply. Bitcoins reward savers and reduce spending, dollars reward spending and punish savers.  By design Bitcoins should appreciate over time, by design dollars will loose value over time, etc.

And most importantly for this discussion:  It takes massive amounts of energy/work/electricity/hashing to produce/mine/create Bitcoins but dollars are created "out of thin air" by the push of a button on a computer by your local banker.  Bitcoins are created by the energy intensive Bitcoin mining process, dollars are created instantly every time a bank loans out dollars that have been loaned to them.  This is mainly because Bitcoins represent value and dollars represent debt.

Bitcoins are hard to create, dollars are very easy to create.

Now Bitcoins represent energy/work that has been expended in their creation.  Over the time Bitcoins have existed a huge amount of electricity has been expended to create them.  So I have to agree with the author to a certain extent:  Bitcoins represent energy - but they represent energy and natural resources that have been burned up.

Bitcoins do not represent potential energy or natural resources any more than the value of any other currency does.

In other words you can buy just as much energy/work/goods/services/labor with $100 worth of Bitcoins as you can with $100.  There is nothing special about Bitcoins when it comes to representing future work (except they should appreciate whereas the dollar will, by design, depreciate).

The author did bring up one interesting scenario:  power companies could use excess production to mine Bitcoins.  Of course they would first have to invest in all the Bitcoin mining equipment and pay off that investment but once that is done they are in a very good position to make a lot of profit mining Bitcoins because their energy cost is the wholesale cost of production.  All the other Bitcoins miners are at a disadvantage relative to the power companies because they have to pay the retail price for electricity.

Now currently the cost of burning resources to run power plants with excess capacity is just passed on to the consumer, so, if a power company made Bitcoins during the time they had excess capacity this profit center could theoretically be used to reduced the price of energy for the average consumer.

So that looks like a good idea.

955  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: XCOINS.IO Automates the Process of Making Money with Bitcoin [OFFICIAL] on: September 19, 2016, 04:13:01 AM
all fiat funds will be clawed back up to a year after the transaction

Why is that?
In the case of fraud a credit card can charge back the funds received up to one year after the transaction.
956  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: My portable Raspberry Pi setup for mining on: September 18, 2016, 10:44:50 PM

Be interesting if you could use that water as a cooler for the miner (the same water used to power that miner)!
I thought the puck was for the older models and not the newer ones?

(Also, the contents of the "puck" would not be too expensive to buy individually - I don't think)

(silicon, water and boron are probably really cheap as there is lots of them. Not sure about sodium though, that might be slightly more expensive).

Yeah that would be great for maximum coolness of the miner. Maybe the pucks won't be that expensive after all, but we will know once its price is announced. One thing that has gone though my mind, is the ability to make a hand crank powered Raspberry Pi.  Cheesy
Better yet tie the output of all the exercise bikes, stair climbers, treadmills, etc. to a generator.  I have always thought the energy output of all that cardio workout equipment around the world should be harnessed to do something...
957  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2016-09-16] ‘Keys to the Kingdom’: Ulbricht Defense Slams Court in Latest Brief on: September 18, 2016, 02:01:30 PM
Oliver Stone is a big deal, big budget, mass market, truth is "whatever sells", make money kind of guy.

That is why I would hope that the movie about Silk Road, Ross, Curtis and the nefarious agents would be more on the lines of a low budget, balanced, as truthful as possible, possibly somewhat boring documentary.  Oliver Stone is the last person I would want to be involved.

PS:  if anyone is thinking of doing this our, much less interesting, story is also available as filler, background, etc.
958  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2016-09-16] ‘Keys to the Kingdom’: Ulbricht Defense Slams Court in Latest Brief on: September 18, 2016, 01:27:07 PM
I have talked to Curtis Green.  Have you?  He seems to think there is a lot of truth to the tale.  I think he would know since it happened to him.

I think it would be great to have a movie about both of them and the entire Silk Road story.

I haven't talked to Curtis Green.  I have talked to Ross Ulbricht a few times and he seems way too grounded and mellow to put a hit out on someone.  Due to life circumstance,  I've met more than one convicted murderer and I have the opinion that murderers are typically a bit unhinged.   As for Ross Ulbricht, I think he got framed on the murder part, but a court case with evidence that takes a jury beyond a shadow of a doubt would convince me otherwise.  Until he is convicted of murder, the guy got two life sentences so that the U.S. Marshall could confiscate his fortune.  Perhaps a movie would help get some balance ...
In my dealings with Curtis he also seems very straight forward, grounded, and honest also, so, what I can say for sure is that Curtis Green strongly believes that there was a hit (or hits) taken out on his life.

Having been falsely accused, having seen some of the "evidence" that appeared in my own discovery ("he was too calm when we arrested him", "he had cash in his safe", "he had an account on silk road" - I never did, "his wife said she was no longer an attorney" - she told them multiple times she is an active attorney, etc.), having seen statements like "there are few legitimate uses for Bitcoins" used in the sealed search warrants in my own case I am acutely aware of how far the DOJ and Homeland Security will go to confiscate property to fund their operations.

So I will certainly retract my earlier statement that "Ross took out the hit(s) on Curtis" and replace it with the statement above.

Hmm, what does that produce?
H2O + NaCl → H2 + Na3OCl?
It must be something like that to produce a solution. They are correct that hydrogen gs can be produced and it's probably ignited to produce the charge so that is quite a good idea (Once hydrogen is ignited, it reacts with oxygen in the air and produces water)! Meaning that was is left in the container is an base solution (which is probably harmless).

Let me know if it works if you get one as it looks an interesting and good buy!

On the ubuntu idea, you can easily get into tablets and change the SD card, but it's probably not worth it!

Interesting.  Here is the real reaction from their web site  http://www.myfcpower.com/pages/faq

Quote
The PowerTrekk uses a fuel cell to convert hydrogen gas and oxygen into usable energy. The hydrogen needed for this process is generated within the Puck. Each Puck contains two water reactive materials —sodium silicide (NaSi) and sodium borohydride (NaBH4). The mixture that is stored within the Puck is a solid powder; when water is delivered into the Puck, it initiates a chemical reaction that produces the hydrogen needed by the fuel cell.

While both of these materials will individually generate hydrogen, each generates the hydrogen differently. Sodium silicide extracts the hydrogen externally from the water (H2O), while the sodium borohydride breaks the hydrogen bonds that are internal to the compound (BH4). When the hydrogen generation process begins within a Puck, the sodium silicide is the first material to produce hydrogen. Sodium silicide generates hydrogen according to the following chemical reaction:

2 NaSi (solid) + 5 H2O (liquid) → 5 H2 (gas) + Na2Si2O5 (aqueous) + Heat

The heat that is generated by the sodium silicide reaction is then used to initiate the sodium borohydride reaction process according to the following chemical reaction:

Heat + NaBH4 (solid) + 2 H2O (liquid) → 4 H2 (gas) + NaBO2 (aqueous)

The two materials generate hydrogen simultaneously until the mixture is fully depleted. If the delivery of water is halted during this process, the hydrogen generation process will stop.

The big question is:

How much does each puck cost ($) and how much energy is release (KWh).

Given those two numbers you can find out how much the electricity from these pucks is costing you in $/KWh and compare it to your normal electricity costs (residential rates usually between $0.05/KWh and $0.12/KWh in the US).

I am betting you will find this to be a very expensive source of energy because you buy the pucks, use them once, then throw them away.  There is no way this process can compete with burning dirt (coal) or better yet hydroelectric.
