Like always, the US are going to turn a blind eye until the Hitler wannabe or one of his allies attacks them directly (à la Pearl Harbor). Meanwhile, as far as the US are concerned, it's fuck the 1994 treaty and fuck the Ukrainian people.

Violence in Ukraine Creates Deepening Clash Between East and West

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/20/world/europe/violence-in-ukraine-creates-deepening-clash-between-east-and-west.html

From the second article:

<< Expressing alarm at the escalating death toll, Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany and President François Hollande of France blamed the security forces of President Viktor F. Yanukovych and made it clear that they supported a political transition that would allow Ukrainians to elect a new government. After meeting with Mr. Hollande in Paris, Ms. Merkel said the convulsion of violence resulted from a "deliberate delaying tactic" by Mr. Yanukovych to avoid a compromise and preserve his place in power.

Russia, by contrast, vowed to use all its influence to support Ukraine's government and joined Mr. Yanukovych in accusing his opponents of trying to seize power in what amounted to a coup. In one of its most pointed statements since the political crisis in Ukraine began, the Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry even evoked the Brown Revolution that brought the Nazis to power in Germany in 1933, blaming "criminal activities of radical opposition forces" for causing the bloodshed and denouncing European countries for failing to acknowledge that.

Russia's foreign minister, Sergey V. Lavrov, accused the West of "encouraging the opposition to act outside of the law". >>

Respect for Pussy Riot, but I am afraid they are digging they own grave with those happenings. This is Russia, they will be killed someday, and they already been in lagr...
Agreed. I think it wouldn't be too hard for them to find a country that would grant them asylum, and then they'd be much safer to protest against what's happening in Russia: basically, it's like the ascension of the Nazi party all over again - only this time they have nukes.

At first, other countries didn't worry much when Hitler seized the power and made sure to change the laws so that he'd have complete control over everything, or when he started persecuting, incarcerating and killing those who opposed him. They even (mostly) left him alone when he started invading neighbouring countries... and then it was too late and we all know how it all ended up.

As always, an essental part of the whole process involves setting up a powerful propaganda machine to demonize specific groups, to convince the people that those groups are their enemies and responsible for whatever bad things are happening in the country.

Putin is clearly smarter than Hitler was, and has certainly learnt a lesson or two from his predecessors in the history of dictatorship, but sooner or later he'll snap - they all do.
