Happy Birthday Byte!

Is anyone else staking Sync?
I have to say it has been a hell of a lot easier than HoboNickels - I couldn't compile HBN for my rasp Pi.

I am not having any problems whatsoever with sync.
The wallet is syncing quickly (just as well!), and the staking is working perfectly.
I wish HoboNickels was so easy! Grin

945  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero or Bytecoin? on: July 02, 2014, 08:01:48 AM
Monero = 0% Premine

ByteCoin = 80% Premine

which coin you choose is of course your desicion[sic].

Monero = Buggy copy of Bytecoin

ByteCoin = The original Cryptonote - 2 years, no premine (If you are too dumb to use Tor that is your problem)

which coin you choose is of course your decision.

what new Pool has been updated to latest release, check out the new "luck" feature under mean?
http://bcn.extremepool.org.

the luck feature is as described, how lucky is the pool in hitting blocks. It also displays this on an individual block basis.

nice to see extremepool is always up to date.

Extremepool is great - It's the one I use most of the time.  Smiley
947  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [BCN] Bytecoin (CPU-mining, true anonymity) on: June 30, 2014, 09:32:22 AM
I updated my binaries and had absolutely no issues or problems at all!  Grin

Thanks devs!  Smiley

BTW - mining with minerd and Claymore I am finding that this is by far the most profitable coin out there short term. However I am holding this long term due to it being the original CrytoNote. I think that the other parameters also point towards it being The mainstream breakout currency at some point in the middle term.
948  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [BCN] Bytecoin (CPU-mining, true anonymity) on: June 26, 2014, 03:02:59 PM
The source code and the binaries were updated!

New Bytecoin version is the next step because of wallet and node API implementation. There are also optimizations for hash function, transaction pool, and wallet JSON RPC API. The binaries are in the downloads section as usual.

Bytecoin Linux
Bytecoin Mac

Is it a mandatory upgrade? I got loads of memory and everything is working/mining well.

Oh! and i am a lazy bastard!  Cheesy

Well, I think the new website is pretty cool.
When BCN goes mainstream you don't want an obscure or 'cracker' type website encouraging the outside media types to trash the coin.
Like the previous poster said, the tech speaks for itself. BCN is the first and it's two years old. That's older than 99.9% of all the other cryptos out there.  Smiley
950  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What coin do you recommend? on: June 23, 2014, 09:55:02 AM
The problem is that you're looking for one of those "ideal" coins: New, but promising, with serious developers. These are few and far between.

Bytecoin BCN ticks all those boxes. The next big coin - maybe even challenging BTC will not be a fork of BTC or any other coin and will include a degree of anonymity.
951  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is the alternate cryptocurrencies market being monopolized? on: June 23, 2014, 07:52:59 AM
It's nice to see a coin where the little guy miner and trader could possibly win for a change.

Surely, the answer is (Open Source) code that gives any node an equal chance of a block whatever it's hash rate. Then pools would be redundant and everyone could mine on Rasp Pi!  Grin
952  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero / XMR Wall & Difficulty Observer / Trading Speculation Thread on: June 20, 2014, 12:43:35 AM
The only 'advantage' I see with Monero is that it is scarcer than Bytecoin.

However I see two big disadvantages;

It is second run to Bytecoin
It doesn't have any differentiation to Bytecoin (At least Litecoin had scrypt to compete with BTC and even that is not enough apparently)
953  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [BCN] Bytecoin (CPU-mining, true anonymity) on: June 20, 2014, 12:32:45 AM
This is true anonymity. Darkcoin just fakes it.

I agree. Also, I think the zerocash people are too exposed and it will not be tolerated. That scenario would pretty much leave just BCN (and copies) in the game.

Past history tells us that the first coin takes it all

Absolutely false. Please take a look at tenebrix.

I was talking about a coin challenging and surpassing the $Cap and take-up of Bitcoin.  Roll Eyes

Just IMHO of course.

Apart from the fact that it should be secure and work well I think the breakthrough coin will come from two main strengths; New code and name.

I don't believe any new coin that is forked from Bitcoin will challange bitcoin. The main reason being that most devs will just tinker around the edges - as has happened to date.
A new hashing protocol here, a voting system there - it's basically Bitcoin. If a coin is developed from scratch then I believe it will have a chance. The devs can implement truly new protocols and concepts, react very quickly to problems or issues and development of new forms of infrastructure will be quicker and easier.

As for the name - I believe that any coin using the term Dark, Cloak or anonymous will not get mainstream engagement or approval. Max Keiser might like it but your local coach company or fiat gateway provider will not!  Lips sealed Too many connotations involving very nasty people with these kind of terms.

Really, this leaves the Cryptonote coins and any future coin based on Zerocash.

Whilst zerocash is interesting and is 'proper' academic research ironically this may be it's Achilles heel. Like many people here I would definitely be interested in a zerocash coin but there is always the possibility that the researchers will be 'leaned on' by TPTB to give it up.

So that leaves the Cryptonotes. Past history tells us that the first coin takes it all - that would indicate Bytecoin as the ultimate replacement for Bitcoin. In it's favor is the media friendly name, the original code, present take up and the large total supply. I could be wrong but if I had to name a coin that will overtake Bitcoin at some point it would have to be Bytecoin.  Cheesy

Instead of moaning that you missed the mining stage why don't you get some old pigs and swap them for new pigs?
