941  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [Feeler] Trying to stay vague (for now) but need some answers from the community on: August 10, 2016, 12:25:13 AM
I wonder how inclined people are going to be to trust coins with private keys embedded now after that fella cleaned out all of the coins he minted.

That's actually a good point. Maybe I should do pre-orders, have people generate a key themselves and I'll calculate a vanity address for that person, send them the part private key + the address via secure communication (forum, or something else).

So how that would work:

User1 would like to buy 1 item (it's not a coin).

He buys/sebds escrow funds/is the highest bidder.

He then follows the instructions in the PM and sends me a Hex public key.

I generate 1itemXXXBiTcoiNADdReSs and send him the private key with it.

He combines the keys, he already has the public address which is either funded or not (his choice), I do up some final work on the item to have the public key and voila, I shop it out and they have a completely secure address.

This sounds like a little more effort on my part and the client's part but I think if anyone is going to 'trust' me, that's going to be the best way (mainly because then you don't have to trust me).

Of course if they don't want it funded and never really care about funding it then this is irrelevant, they pay their base price to an escrow or myself and it's shipped out.

I think I hit the luck number ..... 10... Was my very first set of prints...

I'm thinking 10 for this may be the perfect number or not enough. I'm going to have a lot of speculation going on in my head because nothing like this has been done before. It's kind of a fun item to just look at and enjoy. I have a story behind how I came up with it that I hope people enjoy. I also may very well sell 0 because people don't care about it and I keep them all for myself haha.

There is a risk of course, but simply owning Bitcoin is a risk in itself with potentially:

  • someone hacking your computer and stealing BTC from you
  • an exchange gets hacked
  • something happens to the bitcoin network
  • a bug is exploited in the code
  • a software/mobile wallet gets exploited
  • someone manages to crack private keys
  • electricity cuts off near some of the big mining facilities (China, Iceland, etc), quake, volcano, act of god, provoking a chance for a 51% attack or instability
  • an attack that cuts off some or all undersea internet cables specially the ones between China and the rest of the world (51%)
  • North Korea attacking South Korea but one of their dodgy nukes sets off in the middle of China by mistake
  • governments making BTC illegal
  • and I could go on and on...

-snip-

Also many physical bitcoins are DIY coins or unfunded, they are mainly collectibles.
The ones you can fund or come funded are from very respectable community members, again, never say never.

-snip-

PS: Owning bitcoin or physical bitcoins (funded) carry more or less the same risk IMHO. Be safe, do your research, and don't risk more than you can afford to lose, and you should be just fine.

It's a good point. There are lots of risks with Bitcoins. We definitely all know that. I just don't want people to trust me if they don't want to. Don't want to send me Bitcoins directly? Use an escrow. Don't want me to generate the address for you? It will take longer to create the item but if it's important to you it's important to me. I think I'll make that an option and go from there.

A big question though: if the item is going to be unfunded, should there still be something on it saying (for example) 0.1BTC on it? Or just leave it blank? I may have to buy a few different labels or create my own to order if people want a certain number on theirs.
942  Economy / Services / Re: [2mBTC Bounty] Help me find a 'Lemon' 3 wick Bath & Body Works candle (Canada) on: August 09, 2016, 11:43:06 PM

It's from Amazon.com, so shipping to Canada is usually terrible. $15 American is already very high for a small candle + shipping just isn't worth it for me. Thanks for looking, but keep in mind the USD/CAD exchange rate is terrible atm. It'd be much better if someone found a candle in Canada (so as to deal with Canadian dollars)
943  Economy / Services / Re: Bitcoin Vanity Addresses! on: August 08, 2016, 12:13:21 AM
Could you give me a quote on 1BiaBChris (case sensitive) vs 1biabchris (case insensitive). I'm aware that it's 9 characters long and case insensitive is over 45 trillion difficulty, but just want to know (mostly for curiosity.. I probably can't afford the price you give Smiley just being honest).

I'd have to assume case sensitive is impossible and will cost me literally a limb / organ if I sold it on the black market so I'm more interested in the non-case-sensative quote  Tongue

Edit: Assuming your prices are based on difficulty, I see from your last post that LexiBits was .0076 @ ~50 trillion difficulty so I'm assuming this would cost somewhere around .00684 for case insensitive 1biabchris @ 45 trillion difficulty. Let me know!
944  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [Feeler] Trying to stay vague (for now) but need some answers from the community on: August 07, 2016, 11:14:49 PM
If you want a wider audience of buyers, the go with lower amounts e.g. 0.1 to 0.25. IMHO it is best to make funding optional, as in you can request funding if you want but it's not required. This is what miffman did with his coins. As an example, I would most likely stay away from this if all the coins were funded.

I think that makes the most sense too. Optional funding and most likely not high amounts. With the product I'm selling I really don't think anyone will want a huge amount. It's not as easy as hiding a silver 1oz coin.

Funding optional, face value 0.1 or less, at least 20 of them I would say.
Also it depends on how you sell them if on auction, or fixed price, etc...

Maybe setup a poll see what people thinks, options would be DIY, Funded, Funded on Request.
You can also add the amount in the poll, 1BTC or more, 0.25 or less, 0.1 or less.

See what people comes up with then make your mind up.

I thought I would just sell them at a flat rate but actually an auction would probably be the smartest as I'm having a hard time figuring out about where these should be priced. It may be difficult with ~20 items.

That's actually a really good idea to set up a poll.. Hmm.. can I do that now that I've already started this thread? I may just lock this topic and start a poll.

EDIT: I'm not selling a coin. I'm asking the physical bitcoin community for help because they are the only types of 'physical bitcoins' at the moment. I'll be referring to what I'm producing as 'the item'.

I'm working on a project at the moment. It's going to be at least a few months until I have a prototype ready, thus having an actual product [rather than some research and a great idea (IMO)].

Basically this is a physical collectible item that I would make 5-20 of in the first batch only, and depending on how it does I may do a second batch within a few months (or less. I know, lots of details here Wink/s)

Basically this is a kind of 'physical bitcoin' but really taking a different approach on it. It's not a coin. I just had the idea pop into my head and I can't get it out now!

What I need to know is: should I start with 5, 10, 20?

Is it a good idea to have these funded with a small amount (0.01BTC)? a bigger amount (0.1-0.25BTC? Or make a few with a huge amount (1, 5, 10BTC)? Would people rather self-fund (aka: I sell them unfunded)?

It makes it a little difficult because I don't want to give out any details of what it actually is but if I get some answers that would help a lot! Thanks in advance!

946  Economy / Reputation / Re: Remove my negetive ratings on: August 07, 2016, 09:04:20 PM
It's been stated many times, all over the forum. Trust is not moderated. If you wanted negative trust taken off you'll have to contact the person who gave you negative trust in the first place and see if they're willing to remove it.

Maybe try sending them a PM that you're willing to delete any posts about the Ponzi Scheme you were investing in/helping/promoting and promise you’ll never do it again. That's a start. Either that or make a new account and don't promote ponzis!!!
947  Other / Meta / Re: Everyone keeps saying people are a "Paid Shill", is there any truth to this? on: August 07, 2016, 12:17:19 AM
This should either be in Meta or off topic, I can't really decide.

Paid shill, shill, they're all the same. They have an agenda to take down a certain company/cryptocurrency and it's always obvious (because shills aren't the brightest/subtlest).

949  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is fundamentally broken and unviable in current form on: August 04, 2016, 12:38:34 AM
The security breach at Bitfinex is just beyond the pale. No online wallets/businesses are trustworthy. I can't with a clear conscience recommend that anybody invest in or hold cryptocurrency until the community puts an end to the rampant theft.

I'm slow, and overdue, but now taking all my coins offline to a cold wallet, and not coming back until there is some fundamental change in security protocols, such that I will never risk suffering a 100% loss like some have experienced at Bitfinex. **I didn't have a btc balance at bfx at the time of hack, but I only got lucky.

This has absolutely nothing to do with bitcoin being fundamentally broken?? What a you talking about?? What's broken is people thinking 'oh mt Gox went, but this exchange is somehow better because X, Y and Z.' t what's wrong. People don't learn from history. They don't listen to peo saying 'Don't u online wallets or keep money on exchanges ever!'

TL;DR learn your lesson for onc people. Stop leaving money on exchanges a online wallets. There will ALWAYS be another hack/breachginsid job o whatever you want to call it.
950  Economy / Speculation / Re: BITFINEX crashed, bitcoin price falls. Will it recover? on: August 03, 2016, 02:26:59 AM
perfect time to buy cheap coins. please people, dont regret buying them cheap

treat this saga as a discount day.

Bought $100 worth. Why not? This is your one chance to ever get them this cheap. Buy up while you can people! To the mooooooon Wink. Seriously though, I think this will get the volatility going that we do desperately need in the market right now. No one gets excited over flat prices!
951  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitfinex HACKED - funds stolen ! on: August 03, 2016, 02:23:23 AM
Despite all of this scary news I am still excited for something.

Where are the damn MEMES?  Grin
Make it a good one for this special event.

Haha they're coming soon.

You know what's weird? The only communication bitfinex is having with the outer world right now is through a community manager's Reddit account. Has what this user been saying confirmed? https://www.reddit.com/user/zanetackett

This is the only place I've seen it so far. I'm assuming within the next few days (hopefully) there should be more information.
I wonder what these people do with all this stolen money...

what would you do with 60 millions USD? Smiley  You would open a real business(if you really want to feel the pulse of society) in your country, you will buy a house, 2 houses...10...so that you can rent them, cars, woman  , anything you wish.

you would live a life without any problem.

A normal person would do that, I just have a hard time believing these sleaze hang up their black hats and start living like "normal" rich people. I suspect they're already thinking about their next heist to gain a billion dollars.

It's probably someone with a vendetta against BTC, Bitfinex, or both. (Or a cover story for some scammy stuff going on at Bitfinex.) The hacker may not enrich Himself/herself at all. They might just stick it in a few addresses and never spend them.

That is what I am thinking also and this is not new to us. Gain the trust of people then pull back and run. This thing will happen in every wallet site if they see that there will be paradise after the robbery.
Well, I'll be damned. This is the first time in a while that huge amount has been stolen from an exchange, or was it really stolen? We can't blame people for suspecting and coming up with conspiracy theories with all these exchanges being "hacked" every now and then.

It's just yet another reason why you should never keep any amount of BTC on any exchange ever.
952  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Aug 2 to Aug 16. Picks are yet to start. prize =? on: August 03, 2016, 01:21:12 AM
Fingers crossed for your funds, Phil.

May I ask why you stored them in an exchange rather than a wallet under your control?

Well I have 3 hot wallets in three spots.

and a safe wallet I control.

I balance stuff around but I was busy and did not realize I had that much Eth + Etc       zero BTC.

It is still going to be gone if the figures are correct this is the largest fiat theft ever 60 million usd.

I am sure they are not going to give out  the ETH or ETC.

it is 63 million in btc stolen

http://www.pcworld.com/article/3103609/bitcoin-exchange-bitfinex-apparently-loses-63-million-to-hackers.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter#tk.rss_all

so this is a fucking mess.  the thief will dump these coins into mixers left and right.  so btc is going to tank hard.

I see 450 or less .

Ohhh that's why Bitcoin dropped off the face of the earth since I last checked it. I guess I'm a little late getting the news. Sorry to hear about your funds. Hopefully you get all (or at least some) of them back.
953  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22] on: August 01, 2016, 10:46:11 PM
Am I the most unlucky person in the world or what? The isn't the first time I've been around 99% probability a I'm sure it won't be the last.

I decided to go from 1-9 and then a-k (making 20 vanity addresses) and I think that should be plenty for what I need them for. Thanks for the help Shorena! They're almost all done at this point. I'm sure on a GPU this would have been less than 10 minutes haha.
954  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22] on: August 01, 2016, 03:14:43 PM
Maybe this will help you finding what GPU you have.

http://m.wikihow.com/Find-Out-What-Graphics-Card-You-Have

Intel(R) HD Graphics.

Assuming that's a GPU, how do I use the GPU version? I've always just used vanitygen64. Oclvanitygen is for Linux from my understanding... Do I just put in another command and that will us my GPU?

Also, why does Vanitygen get me double the speed Vanitygen64 does? I thought it would be the opposite.
955  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22] on: August 01, 2016, 02:53:04 PM
You can use 'o' (small Oh) instead. Its the closest in terms of looks.

Meh. I just don't like the look! I'll probably do capitals. Haha then of course I'll get to (I) and be screwed all over again. Hmmm what a predicament.

Another noob question. Like REALLY noob so don't laugh. How do I tell if I have a GPU in the laptop? I'm assuming I don't have one at all but have no idea how to check. Why am I asking? It just took my CPU... 7 minutes to find a 4 character vanity address hahaha.
956  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22] on: August 01, 2016, 02:43:57 PM
If you generate addresses for yourself you dont need to use split key vanit.

Anyway, here is the command to create 1test1 to 1test9 (cant do 10 because there is no 0 in base 58).

Yes I know I don't need to use split key, but I don't trust the system I'm on so I just generate the original addresses on an Ubuntu Live USB to be extra secure.

I actually didn't even think that I couldn't do 10... or any multiple of 10. Hmmm. I'll have to figure that out. Maybe I'll just use characters after 1-9. That way I don't have to add an extra letter to save some time anyways  Tongue

I'm going to do a little test and see how this works. BRB AFK! Lol.
957  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22] on: August 01, 2016, 02:30:56 PM
I need to make a series of 5 letter vanity addresses. In order to do so I think there's a command and I do something with bracket (Yes. I definitely completely understand what I'm doing /s).

Question: Can I use the same HEX public key '04AC6402...' if I'm doing split key vanity gen to create a series of vanity addresses?

So what I mean is my public key is '04AC6402...' can I use that to create multiple addresses, all at the same time?

1test1
1test2
1test3

Let me know if you understand what I'm asking and if it makes sense. Basically I'm trying to save some time rather than generating 100 addresses on an Ubuntu Live USB then going to Vanitygen and 1 by 1 find the part private key.
958  Economy / Services / Re: [2mBTC Bounty] Help me find a 'Lemon' 3 wick Bath & Body Works candle (Canada) on: July 31, 2016, 03:55:09 PM

Ugh it sounded promising but it's in USD and there are the 'mandatory' import charges program attached to it (Whatever stupid name eBay calls that). In the end it would cost me about $61.80CAD Sad so I can't justify it. Thanks though.
959  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Get a creditcard without a bank - funded with Bitcoin on: July 31, 2016, 02:16:53 PM
Yes, you need to fund coinsbank first.  So, it is not technically a credit card.

Does it behave like a credit card in the sense that you can buy things online with it? Or is it more of a debit card and it will be harder to find places that accept it? This sounds a lot like a Visa Debit or something very similar. A 16 digit debit card that can act as a credit card but comes from your bank account.
960  Economy / Marketplace / Re: What's the best (reputable) website to by a new or used SSD from? Is used safe? on: July 30, 2016, 05:36:55 PM
I'm looking for an SSD and they're pretty expensive compared to an external hard drive (for obvious reasons. No moving parts. Way more reliable).

I'm looking for an external SSD and was hoping to buy a used one for a better price. I'm thinking 1TB would be more than enough, maybe even half that size. What website would you suggest and is it safe to buy used? As in, if I'm using it for 'Bitcoin stuff' (I know, very specific) am I safe to format it and we're good to go or should I take other precautions as well?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I'm looking to purchase with Bitcoins (just in case there was any confusion).

Edit2: Shipping within/to Canada

i don't think that you should ever buy used ssd or hdd,  i just wouldn't feel safe with that...

and  i think you could get one from amazon, if you want to pay with bitcoins, you can use purse.io to get it

I'll just lock this to prevent useless spam...

I'll just keep looking for online stores for accept bitcoins. We'll see what I can find that doesn't cost me an arm and a leg.
