9401  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: I Damaged my Ledger on: February 11, 2021, 05:01:52 PM
-snip-
My tip for you is to buy from Ledger itself, cut the middleman. This would allow you to have an increased amount of trust, since Ledger itself even says that they recommend not buying from third party sellers. -snip-
Is there an official statement link from the Ledger that says so?
The Ledger co-founder has posted on reddit many times that it is not recommended to buy Ledger products from third-party merchants that are not part of the official reseller network. They are not saying you shouldn't purchase from any third-parties, just not from unofficial resellers. Especially if the deal sounds to good to be true and costs less than on the official shop.

Here is one reddit post where the co-founder recommends physically checking the hardware of Ledger wallets purchased from unofficial vendors:
Quote
I wouldn't buy from a third party if the price is too low - just to avoid being scammed and not receive anything at all. If you're buying from a third party that's not officially listed as a reseller you should check the device integrity following https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005321449-Check-hardware-integrity both physically and from software after updating to the latest firmware

9402  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor Wallet Update on: February 11, 2021, 04:43:47 PM
So Trezor was faster than Ledger when it comes to using the RBF feature through their native software. Now I expect Ledger to do the same in one of their upcoming LL upgrades. Ledger introduced the option in Ledger Live several moths ago, but it is still not possible to bump the fee through the Ledger Live app. Trezor Suite already can.

Has anyone tried purchasing gift cards with Trezor and Invity? What is your experience and are the fees acceptable?
My guess is that Invity being a third-party service which also deals with fiat will require KYC.

Regarding the ETH fees, I am surprised that the blog post mentions that you can now finally set custom fees through the Trezor Suite. I thought that the option to customize fees was already available.

When sending Ethereum, you can now set a custom fee instead of the default settings.

9403  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Desktop Wallet on: February 11, 2021, 12:07:55 PM
I don't see any reasons why you would go for the portable version if you only plan to install the wallet on one or multiple desktop environments.
Are you all using the same computer or does everyone have his/her own setup? I share pooya87's concerns, especially if the computer is shared with teenagers who might be into browsing porn, downloading torrents, or pirated software and games. That is not the only concern. There are also fake apps, phishing sites, keyloggers, and clipboard hijacker malware.

If we are talking about multiple desktop devices, that is better. To be absolutely safe that your computer is virus-free, please consider reinstalling your operating system before you install Electrum or whatever wallet software you end up using. If you use Windows, ensure you have Windows 10 installed and not Windows 7 which no longer receives new security updates. It would be even better if you use a Linux distribution, like Ubuntu, for example.
9404  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: noobs work together form group to daytrade: collective mind of traders on: February 11, 2021, 08:39:45 AM
What you are suggesting is an illegal scheme on regulated financial markets and a trap meant to trick unsuspecting investors who are looking to earn quick money. Many newbies are drawn to crypto thinking they will get rich by being part of such groups. In reality, most end up just executing buy orders set by the organizers days or weeks in advance. These newbies leave empty-handed, sad, and disappointed of being tricked. It gives the cryptocurrency market a bad reputation.

The organizers of such activities can receive fines of several million dollars (just like in the case of Morgan Stanley a few years ago), and they should if you ask me.
9405  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Eredivisie 20/21 - discussion thread on: February 11, 2021, 08:15:34 AM
I watched the Ajax - PSV match last night as well. Ajax played with ease during the first half and PSV had no chance to create any scoring opportunities. Klaassen's assist for the first goal was a beautiful piece of gameplay and Haller slotted it in the top far corner in style. The movements and passing for the 2nd goal were better than the goal itself with Tadic doing what he does best.

But the 2nd half was a completely different match where PSV had more possession and were pressing for an equalizer. Ajax player Rensch was pretty lucky not to receive a straight red for his tackle from behind with about half an hour left in the match. I think what saved him was the fact that he only entered the pitch in the 2nd half, so he had no previous incidents that the referee could remember.

Who applies the star ratings on your site? Only you or is there a bigger team who works with you? If you allowed visitors to vote for the casinos they like, you would get more reliable results.

I just took a quick look at your 1xBit review. It's pretty bad to be hones. Not the way the review was written, but the message you are trying to send.
In the section about the reliability of 1xBit, you make a comparison between 1xBit and 1xBet. You state that 1xBet might not be the best gambling platform because of all the complaints and accusations they have against them.

But what about 1xBit? You make it sound like 1xBit is trustworthy. You are misleading the readers who have not heard about 1xBit and that's not trustworthy behavior.

Overall rating - 4.5?
Trust & Fairness - 4/5
Customer Support - 4/5

This alone is reason enough to never visit your site again.
9407  Other / Meta / Re: Request for Nigeria local board on: February 10, 2021, 10:50:13 PM
Guys, several days have passed and a lot has been said already. I suggest you appoint one person you all trust in the Nigerian section and have that person communicate with either Cyrus or theymos. Check how other local forums look, and talk amongst yourselves to determine which sections you would like to have. After you reach an agreement amongst yourselves, have your appointee PM one of the two admins with details of the agreement you reached. Include reasons why you believe you deserve your own local and hope for the best.
9408  Other / Meta / Re: Some german guys keeps sending merits to each other for sig campaigns on: February 10, 2021, 10:23:05 PM
Well, see the insane merrits he has received on December 17, 2020 by qwk for more or less generic posts
qwk is a merit source in the German local board. He runs a thread in which members of the German local can submit the posts they feel deserve merits. The link to that thread is this one: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5044331.0

The rules are very simple:
Each member of the local board (except legendary members) can submit merit-worthy posts once per month. They post the links and the number of merits they feel their posts deserve. qwk then checks the submitted posts, and rewards merits according to his subjective opinion. That can be more, but it can also be less than what the individual members think.

He doesn't send those merits every day, and usually does it a few times per month. That's why you see a long list of merits awarded to bullrun2020bro on December 17. But not only to him, but several other users such as SiNeReiNZzz, Koal-84, seek3r, Soonandwaite, etc.

You can check qwk's merit history here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=24140. Check and you will see that each given merit points to a post that was posted by that user in qwk' merit thread.

9410  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: To be careful of the private key wallet we are using these days on: February 10, 2021, 01:59:50 PM
Has anyone asked the people behind the Abra wallet what derivation path they use and how do they answer such questions?
I did find a few things on reddit. One guy who apparently works for them claims they use custom derivation paths for each user and each coin. This is the guy > https://www.reddit.com/user/RyanfromAbra/. He can be contacted via PM.

This is how they explain the process of restoring the seed in a different wallet. The users below reply that it doesn't work.

Quote
I do understand it is a complicated process, so we’ll certainly try to help you out here. To sweep wallet, please follow these instructions: https://decentral.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/217877418-How-do-I-transfer-funds-from-a-paper-wallet-private-key- You are sweeping your Abra private into an external wallet To obtain your Abra private key, use a tool like: https://iancoleman.io/bip39/ Please note that we are not liable for lost funds or any issues arising from using this tool - use this at your own risk. It is NOT an official Abra tool, nor do we endorse it. We are simply giving you on example of a tool to do this. Again, use at your own risk. Remove the ‘at’ in the 13 word phrase to get your standard 12 word mnemonic private key. Put these 12 words into the BIP39 Mnemonic The derivation path would be BIP32. The external deposit addresses will follow the pattern m/1'/0/0, m/1'/0/1, m/1'/0/2. Sweep the derived addresses that are generated near the bottom. Many of the derived addresses may be empty, you will likely have to try all three derivation paths (m/1'/0/0, m/1'/0/1, m/1'/0/2).

Can't sweep properly using sentinel and samourai on android. What exactly should I put as the BIP32 derivation path and should I use hardened addresses? And it seems like there's infinite amount of derived addresses to scan.

9411  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League Discussion Thread on: February 10, 2021, 01:03:50 PM
I liked almost all of the proposed changes apart from this one...
- IMO, other leagues deserve an additional spot as well [it's unfair to only give those spots to teams from England, Spain, Italy, Germany, and France].
Considering that the top teams (from the 5 top leagues) were threatening from breaking free from UEFA and creating a league on their own, I guess they had to give them something. That something is additional spots for teams from their leagues. In all honestly, that is better. The matches are more competitive when it's between top teams. I would rather see an additional English/Spanish/Italian... team than one from Hungary who will end up losing all their matches with 3+ goals difference. Hungary was just an example. Any other country, whose league is not on par with the best, works as well. It might not be fair, but it's business.

EDIT: Prominent Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri just posted the exclusive news that the matches between Benfica and Arsenal will be played in Rome, Real Sociedad-Manchester United probably in Turin, Italy, and Atletico-Chelsea in Warsaw, Poland.

I checked the official UEFA website and many matches will be played on neutral venue indeed:

1st leg:
Leipzig - Liverpool in Hungary
Atl. Madrid - Chelsea in Romania
Mönchengladbach - Man. City in Hungary

2nd leg:
Everyone plays at their home venue.
9412  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: WILL BITCOIN BE ACCEPTED AS A MEANS OF TRANSACTION IN THE WORLD on: February 10, 2021, 10:23:29 AM
1. Volatility
When you want to buy a clothes, the cost is $100 which valued 0,0022 BTC. After you send it, after 1 day the 0,0022 BTC is worth only for $80... which is you're in loss.
That is why most merchants don't keep bitcoin or other crypto assets. You pay with crypto, but they use a third party that automatically converts the coin into fiat. That way your $100 Bitcoin purchase stays the same (not taking into consideration the volatility and value of fiat currencies).

There are other tokens that are designed to serve as currencies, properly. Ripple and Lumens are precisely designed for that purpose. Ripple and Lumens may go up in value - i hope they do! - but likely not in the extreme ways we've seen with Bitcoin.
When you say Ripple, I assume you mean XRP. Ripple was worth $3-4 a few years ago and now it's valued between $0.40-0.50. I think that's an extreme sign of volatility as well. Not to mention that the Ripple foundation owns most of the coins, which makes the asset a centralized banking coin. I guess they are now selling their assets because of issues with the SEC.
9413  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Best bitcoin wallets on 2021 [Andriod] on: February 10, 2021, 10:03:12 AM
In addition to your list.
I would never recommend that anyone uses Jaxx wallets. They store everything on your local disk in an unencrypted format. They know that their security is awful and they don't care. Their response is that if a user has his funds stolen because someone or something gained access to the unencrypted sensitive information on the hard drive, it's his own fault. Even though everyone is responsible to secure his own system, it's best to avoid services like those provided by Jaxx.

A big shout-out is an expression of gratitude and thanks. Google it.

to luckybit they beteer change this title to closed because their title says they are back with a smiley on the side lol or better they lock this thread now to avoid unecesary discussions .
It's not an unnecessary discussion when you make the members of the forum aware of a trustworthy behavior of a team whose site is being closed down. It shows that the team is trustworthy no matter the situation they find themselves in. If they ever come back, these are the sort of things people should know.

9416  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger and USD-Digital (PAX) on: February 09, 2021, 01:58:58 PM
I've seen that. So if i get my ledger's paxos address, and send money from my usd-digital blockchain wallet, i will receive those money?
PAX is an ERC-20 token which means it's using the Ethereum blockchain. You will need to install the Ethereum app in Ledger Live. When you get your device, just download Ledger Live, and search for the ETH app in the applications list.

The ETH app gives you an address. You store your ether and ERC-20 tokens (such as PAX) on that ETH address. You are going to need some ether tokens as well to pay for transaction fees when you decide to transfer your PAX tokens to another destination.
9417  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Coinbase Wallet - Is my $ lost because I pressed this one button (dangerous)? on: February 09, 2021, 10:37:46 AM
It's a sad story, and although I agree with what you and nc50lc said about the possibility of saving the seed for later, ultimately, it was you who was careless and didn't take proper care of your sensitive information. You went with convenience instead of security. The secure way to do it would be to make multiple copies of your recovery phrase and store them in different locations. After that, you could have tried to restore your wallet to see if you wrote down the seed correctly and it's recovering the correct addresses.

The fact that Coinbase can't help you to recover your seed is exactly how the system is set up to be. Imagine if customer support representatives had access to seeds, what would be the point of Bitcoin and a non-custodial wallet?

I hope you will find a way to recover your money and never make shortcuts like you did with the seed phrase.  Undecided

9419  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Best bitcoin wallets on 2021 [Andriod] on: February 09, 2021, 10:16:56 AM
Maybe you can add official links to the websites or download buttons for the listed wallets. I am saying that because of the wallet listed on #3. Its name is only Bitcoin Wallet. Honestly, I don't know which one you are referring to. I know there was a light wallet with that name that supported both bitcoin and bitcoin cash, but I am not sure if that is the one.

Adding hyperlinks to the wallet names might help.

A big shoutout to the admins and owners of LUCKYB.IT.

I had some bitcoin left in my account that I apparently forgot about. I saw the email that they were closing down late, only two days ago. So, I logged in to my account and requested a withdrawal. Even if the deadline was January 31st, my withdrawal was processed and I got my bitcoins.

Good luck to the team and hopefully we will see you back here where you belong.
