0.1 is very realistic when you consider the actual underlying costs of processing a transaction on a blockchain. That's around 0.10 USD at current prices. A typical fee for Bitcoin is 0.0001 per kilobyte, which is around 0.04 USD. For a 20KB transaction that would be around 0.80 USD, or 8x what the corresponding XMR transaction costs. Monero doesn't have per-KB calculation of fees yet, but only for the very smallest transactions (2KB or less) will XMR be more expensive. For most it will be less expensive. People need to adapt their usage to realistic transaction processing costs, not expect fees to hide those costs. Mostly that means pools not making tiny payouts.

The discussion on the original thread has been much better lately so less clamoring for a moderated thread. It is nice that this one is here though, in case things get bad again (they probably will).

If somebody wants to take over website, this thread and other communication resources please make an offer. So far nobody did.
My offer is 1 AEON.

hey, Smooth,
Kind of curious about the implications of your commitment to this coin for the future development of XMR.
None directly. I just saw a nice simple coin with some people supporting it that wasn't even being updated for critical security flaws, and felt I could help out with that. Is XMR old news now?
Not in my opinion. Monero has become a major project with a large team, along with a large and organized user/industry group (MEW). That is complementary with an independent coin like this one that is being handled as a simpler and lower profile project. Can one possible scenario for the 3-month/6-month/12-month future be AEON surpassing XMR in market cap and/or utility?
Impossible to speculate. I usually decline from making predictions Will successful technical developments in AEON be ported to XMR?
Yes that is certainly possible. My view in general is that open source projects greatly benefit from sharing of ideas and code. I don't subscribe to the model that every fork becomes an independent competing project. Cooperation and learning from each other's experiences can be just as important as competition. It is still unclear to me whether I should even get involved. If my input is being viewed as a hijacking or takeover then I don't want to be stirring up anything contentious or controversial. Plenty of that going on with Monero already!

hey guys. I've been trying to download the blockchain for a few days now following the guide on http://monero.cc/getting-started/ and I'm stuck on block 56058 (38 days behind) no matter if i download the blockchain manually or let it sync itself, and I'm running out of ideas. Is there an upgrade I'm missing and the guide is outdated? Thanks You probably aren't stuck. The message you see is reporting peers that are stuck. What does the diff command report?

Why there has to be the king?
There doesn't. Please create your own game with a different design. From the point of view of Monero, we would like very much to see many different games using Monero.

I sent 270 Monero on Poloniex already 20 hours ago, but they did not come, what to do?
Did you made the transfer with a payment ID? If so, you should contact Poloniex support or a Mod in the trollbox. If you didn't use a payment ID, you should still contact poloniex support, but do it through their ticket system, not trollbox.

Is there an easy way of generating a Monero paper wallet?
Yes. Generate a new wallet, write down the 24 seed words on a piece of paper.

I guess you cant' announce anything as you don't have op access. Hijhacking thread is also very nice way how you support original devs So monerish People should be aware of speculation pump on Polo otherwise they will burn money on dead coin. I've burnt enough when aeon started and with no guerilla marketing it was just going down. I still think it is a good coin and can address weak points of XMR but I don't like approach of few people taking over like this. As far as I'm concerned it is totally up to the community, especially the people who were involved with this coin already. If you don't want my help then I will certainly step aside. "Supporting the original devs" seems pointless given the obvious abandonment (see OP), lack of updates, shut down of seed nodes, etc., but that is just my opinion. If others disagree then just stick with them. Up to you guys. I will await feedback.

Hahaha, Mintpal staff is so incompetent.
Incompetent is not the word to use to describe lying about the Monero developers refusing non-existent requests for help.

Hey there Monero Developers. What say you to the following: Moolah (@moolah_io) tweeted at 6:40pm - 14 Oct 14:
@deadlyonetwo3 All [XMR] coins are still there. The developers have refused our attempts at contact to resolve daemon issues.
https://twitter.com/moolah_io/status/522185275049406464Thanks! Refused attempts to contact? WTF?!!!! They can try posting here. Or PM, or #monero-dev or the email on our web site. As far as I know, they've tried none of those. I call bullshit.

. A growing acceptance of crypto in general (vs the current stagnation). Everyone I know now knows about bitcoin without me telling them. None of them show much interest in it. Adoption has ceased as everyone knows and anyone who wants to use it is. This is much the same with XMR. Everyone who wants to use it / be in on it now is. Most people who own bitcoin and are semi regulars in the crypto world know about it.
Yes I describe this as a crypto dark age. There just isn't much going on in terms of opening of new markets or increased demand for the technology (broadly speaking I include both XMR and BTC here). Look at the BTC chart over the past 10 months. In the moment it seems like a lot is going on with daily/weekly pumps and dumps, China bans, MtGox implosion, but zoomed out you just see stagnation and slow decline. It will take something new and important to break out of this pattern.

Thanks for the help sammy007!!
Yes I'm going to tag when we are ready for release. Still in the testing phase right now.

Maybe someone should remove the "Coin discontinued" from the OP
Nice catch, it's confusing. We can't. The original developer offered to turn over access to it, but hasn't done so yet. If it doesn't happen in a few days I will start a new thread and announce this one closed.

I'm not looking for any donations, but we can set up a fund to pay for future services such as hosting a web site, bounties, etc. This is not to discourage other volunteers from personally accepting donations at all. In fact, I would encourage it if it means more participation.
I will make an announcement about a project donations fund in a few days when I start a new thread if the previous developer hasn't yet turned over access to this one.
In the event this thread is locked please PM me for a link to the new thread

Update release candidate feedback requested
Please leave feedback about the update release candidate I announced a few days ago.
If no problems are uncovered we will proceed to a release stage with binaries soon.
The feedback about the wallet and other ideas is great. I have some interesting and exciting ideas for this coin. Since we are a small community we can try things that are a bit too radical for bigger coin like Monero. Stay tuned and please keep the ideas flowing!
BTW, in response to the comments about including a non-anonymous coin in a wallet, that is not necessary since cryptonote can also be used non-anonymously. Transparency and audit features, when desired, are part of the protocol.

who says i have any bitcoin? i just believe in the cause of fair money.
Be careful with this, remember the Feds took down the mob by proving tax evasion, not actual crimes. If the US government (with all of the data collected by NSA, etc) is able to prove that at one point you acquired a certain number of coins then it is easy for them to force to you admit to one of the following, either: 1) You sold the coins, in which case you better have reported that past sale to the IRS and paid taxes, or 2) You still control the coins or 3) They got stolen... * runs filing police report * "I threw out the hard drive"

I'd like to suggest a small rule change. During the discussion of proposal #1, a change was made to the text of the proposal at the very end of the 168-hour discussion period, and then voting started almost immediately. My suggestion would be that in such cases the discussion period be extended for a short time, perhaps 24 hours.
