9441  Economy / Speculation / Re: Top analyst warns a hard dump. on: February 05, 2020, 02:57:23 PM
The article is clearer that this click bait topic.
It tells:

he did warn of Bitcoin “dumping hard” if it breaks below the $8,900 level and closes beneath it on a daily basis.

Although it's not a great "margin", knowing that 5-8% fluctuations can easily happen, we are still 500$ far from that point and we seem to go upwards.
Of course, I don't deny that it will fall / adjust sooner or later.
9443  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: comparing Bitcoin to a new country's currency on: February 05, 2020, 01:32:52 PM
anything can happen without proper checks.

Some may use a new bad code without checking, but some will surely check it first (at least the changes) and if something is fishy, they'll "sound the alarm". And the community / consensus will be necessary for such a change, else the bad actors will be forced into a worthless fork.

Remember today mining pool is highly concentrated and therefore controlled by very few people.

I don't know if you know/remember the SegWit and SegWit2x days. Those have shown that even good changes are hard to be added if they're controversial and the bad changes will be surely rejected and the mining pools are not as strong as you want to believe.
9444  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Apart from AIRDROPS AND Bounties, Are there other ways to OWN cryptocurrecies. on: February 05, 2020, 01:19:51 PM
Or, if you are smart enough, or have the right contacts, or have a good idea start a cryptocurrency related business, which will earn you fiat and/or crypto.

Some have made miners with developer fee. Some are managing mining pools or exchanges. Some are selling stuff. As you can see there are quite few fields covered.
9445  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 05, 2020, 10:54:30 AM
could have been a nice trade

Currently flying at $93XX per BTC

I almost got scared that nobody here noticed the green candle dildo.

9447  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is staking possible if the token cant be mined? on: February 04, 2020, 11:19:31 AM
Proof of stake coins can't be mined. Quite a weird question.

Actually there's at least one coin I know of, which used to have some hybrid PoS/PoW. I didn't read their thread much lately, so I don't know if that has change, however, you can take a look there.
It's Magi Coin XMG.

Can you offer staking rewards if the token cant be mineable and the project doesnt have its own wallet?

If the coin is 100% premined, no further mining is necessary. You can buy the coin. (Of course then mining rewards cannot exist).
One can offer you some sort of "depositing" rewards which may or may not be related to staking. It can be staking, see LPoS/Waves, staking by leasing; but some others may just use the term "staking" for benefits/rewards.
A wallet only handles private keys. The coins are still on the chain, with or without wallet. Some sort of wallet is required for the users be able to use the coin. But I am not sure what you mean by "own" wallet. Some coins have developed websites for doing this job, it's still own wallet, but it's less secure imho and not so intuitive to be "own".
9448  Local / Română (Romanian) / Re: Despre adresa Bitcoin on: February 04, 2020, 08:58:42 AM

In cel mai bun caz pierzi timp. Poate si ceva date din telefon. Oricum, sa nu depui bani in aplicatii de "minat Bitcoin".

PS.

M-as bucura sa vad undeva online si acel curs.
9450  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How can you detect a risky transaction before a single confirmation? on: February 04, 2020, 08:42:39 AM
Is there an efficient way to detect wallets that are from exchanges etc?

I know that https://www.walletexplorer.com/ shows some such addresses. I don't know if the list is perfect (or good enough) though.
9451  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is digital gold good? on: February 04, 2020, 08:15:24 AM
People here do not realize it just yet but there is digital gold already. At least in my country, you can talk to your bank and change all of your money to gold, not just gold futures or anything but literally gold in gold form that bank will hold for you, or you can withdraw it in gold form as well.

It's still easier to work with crypto currency, even if it's only a token. You have anonymity, you can exchange any time, not only in the banking hours, you don't have to leave your desk.
I don't deny that a bank may offer more trust, still this token seems to have better audit than most stable coins, so let's not deny its good parts.
And more companies offering similar product use to be a good thing. People can choose based on their needs.
9452  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 4.0.0.a0 - New Feature on: February 04, 2020, 08:07:18 AM
I also think that's a good change.

Maybe at some point in the future we'll also see a popup (obviously with a "never show this again" option) after each start asking if the user wants the current wallet or another one (existing or new). I've noticed that File->New is (for some) not as straightforward as we'd expect.

A collection of links to recent wallets and a big ass new wallet button. Bauerj was brainstorming it on github:

https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/issues/3916

Yep, this would be great, but at every startup, not at install, as the window title suggests.
9453  Other / Meta / Re: Just A Little Question... on: February 03, 2020, 05:20:41 PM
a mouse over tells it..
How I wish it is possible to hover on a Mobile Phone ✌😂

If you make the icon big enough and long-press it, it works, at least on my Chrome for Android.  Wink

edit: made the image smaller
9454  Other / Meta / Re: Just A Little Question... on: February 03, 2020, 02:52:57 PM
Most of the info you need is in this topic: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178608.0
The case of NLNico is simple, a mouse over tells it: he received the badge for finding/reporting security flaws of the forum. It's also in the list from that ^^ topic.
There's also a badge for the ones who won the Bitcointalk 10 years forum contest https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5204528.0 (see https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=509189)
9455  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: My bitcoin just disappeared on: February 03, 2020, 02:13:25 PM
1. Where did you download Electrum from? There are plenty of fake electrum clones, are you sure you downloaded the real one from electrum.org?
2. Did you check the signature it is the correct Electrum?
3. Is your computer safe from viruses and malware?
4. Was your seed stored securely? I am asking because the coins are not in the wallet and anybody who has access to the seed can spend those coins from any wallet.

PS. How to send you e-mail if they don't ask for an address?
9456  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Online gambling on real gaming equipment: Testing technology on: February 03, 2020, 12:03:24 PM
a crowdfunding platform in which prizes will be drawn among investors. To do this, we will use real gaming equipment

No matter how much will this be tested, there will be a trust issue: can you prove the gambling equipment is provably fair and will stay so?
Block hash from the major crypto currencies is lately pretty much used in draws; it could be an option for you too.

So the gambling part may need improvement on the idea/implementation part.
Then.. the investors may not care about the draw / prizes at all. They should care the projects are good, fair and will make them money sooner or later.
9457  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Private Key - Miners on: February 03, 2020, 11:53:31 AM
I am curious if private keys are vulnerable to the computational power of miners.

Can a miner or a group of miners use their huge computational power to access private keys for any public address, or the computational power is too small for that.

There are 2 threads to read about this:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5147514
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5216788

This could make you understand that there are so many possible private keys they just cannot "hack" / brute force a private key. The energy of our sun would not be enough for the effort.
9458  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Promote bitcoin through any means. It'll work! on: February 03, 2020, 08:20:22 AM
Lately, I made an animated video in which the character talked about bitcoin, it's uses, advantages and disadvantages. Tho it wasn't easy making it (it took days), I believe it's worth it.
Here's a link to the video: https://youtu.be/LwwOVcFPWKI

I usually don't like to click others' videos or share them because too many just try to get a few extra cents by asking us click / see useless things on youtube.
But this one, although not perfect, is a nice surprise: pretty informative and easy to follow. Well done, I've also shared it.
9459  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Proof of Work problem? on: February 02, 2020, 05:13:16 PM
Is there still a significant number of miners with the equipment required to process proof of work?  Is there a danger in that the cost to run such equipment being so high that it leaves very few miners able to afford to do the proof of work, and thus it leaves only one or two miners and introduces the possibility through collusion to start manipulating the blockchain?

The number of miners is actually still increasing, so you should not be worried.
Also if miners would leave, after a number of blocks the difficulty would adjust, so the mining will become more profitable for the remaining ones.
9460  Local / Română (Romanian) / Re: Despre adresa Bitcoin on: February 02, 2020, 05:04:33 PM
Ce as putea sa fac?
