From another site just going to reuse this comment

Wow…we have reached a sad point in this country. A man makes a donation due to his personal beliefs and is ruined for it …The new America.

... Unlike an ex president and his wife sharing the exact same viewpoint but won't have to deal with any of this. Ever.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some of the very same people who have jumped up and down with delight as Brandon Eich lost his job will doubtless be backing Hillary Clinton for president in 2016 if she runs.

The “Ready for Hillary” ranks are crowded with gay men – and good for them.

But it’s worth considering some consistency here.

If it is unconscionable to support a company whose CEO once donated to the cause against marriage equality, why is it not unconscionable to support a candidate who opposed marriage equality as recently as 2008, and who was an integral part of an administration that embraced the Defense Of Marriage Act, signed into law by Bill Clinton?

How do you weigh the relative impact of a president strongly backing DOMA – even running ads touting his support for it in the South – and an executive who spent $1000 for an anti-marriage equality Proposition?

This whole incident is rather strange and somewhat disturbing.  Sure all parties were well within their rights in regards to their actions.  However, it is concerning that they would hound this guy over such a small donation 6 years ago.  Ironically this guy lost his job (this was obviously a forced resignation) because he held the same view as President Obama and not Dick Cheney at the time of his donation.  There is no evidence whatsoever that he allowed his feelings on gay marriage to impact those he worked with.  For all we know he may have supported civil unions and just wanted to protect the religious view of marriage.  Finally, its not like this wasn't common knowledge before his appointment.  It would appear that that dating site decided to spring this now as a publicity stunt.  This man was a small fish in a vast ocean and made the perfect target of opportunity.  Ultimately, it is a sobering lesson, never donate money to political causes if you are concerned about any future work prospects.  This incident shows that even the winners can be vindictive.

Never give money to causes you believe to represent your views now to avoid the fear of being targeted in the future? How would political machines, unions, non profits would function then?

Below is the best comment I have read about the controversy so far.
This was posted in response to someone celebrating the lynching in the comments section of Slate

Quote from: Aditya Vivek Barot

You are a lunatic. You lack the ability to construct apposite analogies. You are the fanatic Hiterlite determined to purge society of all dissent. You are the criminal that delights in the destruction of men of genius. Just like Goebbels, you cannot stand men that actually possess genius. Thus, the hatred of the lowest common denominator is turned upon all those who create and make this world a better place.

A man who is, in large part, responsible for the modern world and its convenience was purged by the hyena-like mob that is comprised of bigoted lunatics such as yourself.

Thanks to you, America is no different from Nazi Germany insofar as treatment of dissidents is concerned. And unlike Nazi Germany or Stalinist Russia, we don't even need a secret police since "men" such as yourself remain at the ready to tear down dissidents.

I don't care about this issue one way or the other. Since I don't believe in mass democracy, I don't even vote. Since I don't believe a secular state can even issue marriage licenses, I don't care about the person or persons eligible for the same.

However, I would never hound anyone on either side of the debate.

Why? Because I am a civilized man who believes that men cannot be punished for their deeply cherished opinions even if they militate against the prevailing structure of taboos.

You, sir, are a savage who is opposed to the Reformation, Renaissance and the Enlightenment. You are no different than a sadistic Church official delighting in the discovery and destruction of heretics.

At least that's true if we substitute "San Francisco Commie Bay Area" with the "America" above.  The backlash generated indicates that a large percent of the country doesn't agree with them.

And when this matter was voted on in California, California didn't agree with them.

This thing is all over the place. Checking Ars tech. Their comment sections are on fire. Cnet.com, etc, etc...
So far it seems the "firefoxing cheerleaders" are all wishing this will be forgotten in a few days, downplaying it. Hard to forget such a subject when a lot of tech startups are using that "bigot's invention" everyday to make money.

Actually, maybe I should create a bumper sticker about that.
9565  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Today will be my last day using Mozilla Firefox or any Mozilla products... on: April 06, 2014, 12:37:35 AM
Ridiculous to fight bigotry with more bigotry. Whole thing should've been left under the rug. A $1,000 donation is nothing -- it's like a police officer actually writing up a ticket if he sees someone jay-walking because he thinks it's so horrible that someone would break ANY law that they must be some type of bomb-lobbying anarchist mass-murderer who just doesn't give a fuck. Implications are only concerning because it's a polarizing issue which is blowing up way out of proportion, but it'll probably die down soon.

The gay mafia is not going anywhere. Use Facebook and any public records at your own peril. Instead of going next door and have a chat, sharing your position and personal tragedy like in this example, the dog of social war were unleashed. Payback time for the gay mafia. She will of course pay her share of extortion money to please the pink mafia.

For now on watch out not to be "firefoxed" if you have a simple opinion.

Interesting that you posted that article. I read similar arguments in the Russian press a few years back, where it was outlined how, despite human rights being downtrodden in USSR, the idolised vision of USSR among the Western worker class created a strong movement, which eventually lead to advances in human rights awareness in the West.

So without the sacrifice of all those poor souls for 70 or so years, the holy grail of a social security net would never have been conceived. Quick we need a country where million of people could be massacred for years so we can bring into our collective conscience killing is bad.

I vote for the second Congo War.

I don't support government issuance of licenses to marry and divorce.

If Eich was wise he could have argued that he was trying to reduce slavery.

So speaking legalese BS is being brave and wise nowadays? How about "I will rather quit my job than bow to the pink mafia and lose my right of free speech?"

Speaking like an adult, as in anon's example, is more becoming for CEOs generally than incendiary rhetoric.

So even if the dude never had a problem with any of the Mozilla team, gay or otherwise, he was supposed to lie about his position regarding gay marriage, saying he was sorry about his contribution he made 6 years ago?
He was not sorry. He was pushed and he quit. Anyway this is a perfect case of "social jurisprudence" as it will be used over and over toward the people who have public records about issues you would not agree with. So you don't believe in human made global warming? Sorry GTFO! you're fired!

A little reminder of what corruption looks like in Venezuela (Like Father, like daughters)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hugo Chavez's daughters refuse to move out of presidential palace and hold 'deafening' parties as five die in violent protests on the streets of Venezuela

Former Venezuela president Hugo Chavez died in March 2013
Daughters Rosa Virginia and Maria Gabriela won't leave presidential villa
Neighbors complain of 'deafening' parties
Restaurants won't deliver over unpaid bills
Meanwhile, anti-government protests rage on the streets and five people have died in clashes so far
A 22-year-old beauty queen died after being shot in the head
On Thursday President Maduro threatened to expel CNN from the country

But isn't that their right , being the daughters of the man who defeated corruption in Venezuela? =)))))

That is the sweet socialist concept of noble blood of King and Emperor... Just don't call them that.

Son of Sam missed the opportunity to open his own abortion clinic, subsidized by the tax payers.

Something doesn't add up. Even though they hoped to raise $50K USD, they did reach that goal, and then some by amassing $52,075 USD. But, once you subtract the PERKS that have to be doled out, depending on what funding level one contributed at, a big chuck of that $52K+ USD was no longer available to Team Dark Wallet.

Also, their donation address - https://blockchain.info/address/32wRDBezxnazSBxMrMqLWqD1ajwEqnDnMc - currently has 7.08661531 unspent BTC, equating to $3,175.51 at today's exchange rate.

This post is not meant as a diss, for I have no qualms with any of those involved in this noble project, but presented such for full disclosure purposes only.

God speed, all.

~Bruno Kucinskas

If there is any doubts about how they are spending the money you should ask the questions to them so the world can see. I am not involved with the project. I thought it was a cool concept. Now if I can't trust the people building that wallet why would I want to use it or anyone else for that matter?
Anyway competition is good so may the best "dark wallet" project win (as I am simply guessing this project is not the only one)

To be clear, I wasn't questioning them as to where/how the money was/is to be spent. I was just pointing out that $50K USD was needed to further the project, further stating that that wasn't really enough, but due to the PERKS that need to be doled out, a major chuck of the $50K USD will be/is spent. Also, for being cash-strapped, why are donations just sitting? At least move/split them up to make it seem like they were used, albeit transparency is welcome.

Again, have no qualms with Black Wallet.

~Bruno Kucinskas

In any company or project having zero $ for cash flow is a bad idea. I would guess.

Purge the Bigot

Brendan Eich is just the beginning. Let’s oust everyone who donated to the campaign against gay marriage.

Some of my colleagues are celebrating. They call Eich a bigot who got what he deserved. I agree. But let’s not stop here. If we’re serious about enforcing the new standard, thousands of other employees who donated to the same anti-gay ballot measure must be punished.

More than 35,000 people gave money to the campaign for Proposition 8, the 2008 ballot measure that declared, “Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.” You can download the entire list, via the Los Angeles Times, as a compressed spreadsheet. (Click the link that says, “Download CSV.”) Each row lists the donor’s employer. If you organize the data by company, you can add up the total number of donors and dollars that came from people associated with that company.

The first thing you’ll notice, if you search for Eich, is that he’s the only Mozilla employee who gave to the campaign for Prop 8. His $1,000 was more than canceled out by three Mozilla employees who donated to the other side.

The next thing you’ll notice is that other companies, including other tech firms, substantially outscored Mozilla in pro-Prop 8 contributions attributed to their employees. That includes Adobe, Apple, Google, Microsoft, Oracle, Sun Microsystems, and Yahoo, as well as Disney, DreamWorks, Gap, and Warner Bros.

Thirty-seven companies in the database are linked to more than 1,300 employees who gave nearly $1 million in combined contributions to the campaign for Prop 8. Twenty-five tech companies are linked to 435 employees who gave more than $300,000. Many of these employees gave $1,000 apiece, if not more. Some, like Eich, are probably senior executives.

Why do these bigots still have jobs? Let’s go get them.

To organize the next stage of the purge, I’ve compiled the financial data into three tables. Here’s the first table. It shows 37 companies whose names, in one form or another, appear next to a total of at least $10,000 (per company) in donations to Prop 8. The list isn’t complete, but it’s a start.

The next table, below, shows 25 tech companies whose employees donated to the campaign for Prop 8. Again, the list isn’t exhaustive. But every one of these companies outscored Mozilla in associated contributions to Prop 8.

The last table, below, shows several other companies that didn’t hit the $10,000 threshold but did surpass Mozilla in money for Prop 8. Some of them might surprise you.

The numbers in these tables don’t represent contributions from the companies. (All the money came from individuals.) Nor do they reflect the balance of contributions that came from a company’s employees. (I haven’t added up the donations that went to the campaign against Prop 8.) A quick glance here and there suggests that in many cases, the balance of contributions from these companies went against the ballot measure.

But those caveats are true of Mozilla, too. And we’re not cutting Mozilla any slack, are we?

If we’re serious about taking down corporate officers who supported Proposition 8, and boycotting employers who promote them, we'd better get cracking on the rest of the list. Otherwise, perhaps we should put down the pitchforks.

In this case: are you qualified to estimate on what secret organizations are doing with the understanding of the human genome?
Because my statement is only an intuitive guess -- that the cures and causes for genetic diseases have been found by these cognitive elitists -- and that they will rather cruelly refuse to share them, and instead share the great riches that come from keeping the sick sick.

My post's title was trying to make fun all those Illuminati threads made by err... one somebody back then. "ILLUMINA" is the name of that company. It was never my intention to have anyone to believe the Illuminati were behind, trying to sequence everyone's genome for a proper and total control from birth to death.

What Happened to Chicago’s Murder Rate After Illinois Upheld Concealed Carry and Why it Matters

In July of 2013, Illinois became the last state in the union to enact a concealed carry law. In January of this year, the state began accepting applications for permits. This week, Chicago police announced that the city’s first quarter murder rate was the lowest since 1958.

Via ABC-affiliate Eye Witness News in the Windy City:

The first three months of the year saw 6 fewer murders than the same time frame in 2013–a 9 percent drop–and 55 fewer murders than 2012, according to a statement from Chicago Police.

There were 90 fewer shootings and 119 fewer shooting victims, drops of 26 and 29 percent respectively, according to police statistics.

Compared to the first quarter of 2012, there have been 222 fewer shootings and 292 fewer shooting victims. Overall crime is down 25 percent from last year, and police said more than 1,300 illegal guns were recovered in the last three months.

Coincidence? Hard to say. And too early to tell. Although, I doubt that the anti-gun crowd is celebrating the good news.
