9581  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What would you rather buy for the long term right now...BTC or ETH? on: August 13, 2021, 02:48:00 AM
You can invest in Bitcoin without any afterthought. Bitcoin is the original cryptocurrency and we are assured of the fact that it will survive as long as cryptocurrency exist. But the case with Ethereum is not like that. Even now it is facing a lot of competition from other chains such as Cardano and Binance Chain. And the very high transaction fee is not making things any easier. I would say that Ethereum, at current levels carry a lot of risk for long term investment. I would rather prefer Bitcoin.
9582  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why are other cryptocurrencies not like Bitcoin? on: August 13, 2021, 02:30:13 AM
IMO, the most important factor that differentiates Bitcoin from the rest is that the inventor of BTC never tried to profit out of his creation. There was no premine. On the other hand, almost all the other cryptocurrencies had a substantial premine (in case of some like XRP, this premine allocation was 100%). Creating profit for the inventor or the promoter was not one of the reasons for the creation of Bitcoin. However, that can't be said for any of the altcoins. So it is only natural that Bitcoin behave differentially from the other cryptocurrencies.
9583  Economy / Economics / Re: We exited the bear market earler than expected on: August 13, 2021, 02:20:39 AM
The cryptocurrency market just followed the trends from other sectors of the economy. Look at the stock market, it is also at historic highs, despite the concern regarding the delta variant. And I have been saying this for sometime now. The 2021 price movements closely resemble what we had in 2017. And if that is true, we are about to witness a major bull run, by the end of this year. And hopefully by then, we will have multiple countries declaring Bitcoin as the legal tender (El Salvador is the only one which has currently done that).
9584  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 💰 Summer Tokyo 2020 💰 Discussion and bet thread 💰 Summer Game 💰 on: August 13, 2021, 02:10:12 AM
I remembered and perhaps add to my impressions of the Olympic Games in Tokyo one more observation.
With all due respect to the gymnast from Israel, who received a gold medal for her performance with a gross mistake (she dropped her sports ribbon during her performance).  Never have a gold medal been awarded at the olympiads of the past.  This was a precedent.
And, of course, the decision of the judges not to award a gold medal to a very worthy and unmistakable performance of a Russian gymnast is completely wrong.  The judges clearly and brazenly offended her.  This is some kind of dirty game in the referee environment.

The judging in this edition of the Olympics was below average. And as you pointed out, Linoy Ashram's performance in rhythmic gymnastics was not up to the mark, and yet she ended up with the gold. But at the same time, the performance from the Russian gymnasts (Dina Averina/Arina Averina) were also not that great. Linoy Ashram  was awarded a very high score of 107.800 despite the drop. And in ribbon, she received 23.300 (second highest). How can the judges give such a high score, despite the mistake?
9585  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin faces strong resistance to reach $50k? on: August 13, 2021, 02:00:22 AM
Last time when Bitcoin breached 50K, it was a relatively smooth run. If you remember, the exchange rates rallied from $30,000 to $58,000 in less than a month. And back then, I couldn't notice any major resistance at 50K. And when this is the case, I don't think that this time we will get any significant resistance at that level. IMO, the next major obstacle will be to breach the already established ATH ($64,000). It may take a while to cross that level, and once that is done it should be smooth sailing towards the six digit mark.
9586  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: {Boxing} Manny Pacquiao vs Yordenis Ugas on: August 13, 2021, 01:50:19 AM
Against Spence, Pacquiao was the underdog. But here, he is the favorite, and that too by a big margin. The last time I checked the odds, Pacquiao was at -310, while Yordenis Ugás is placed at +245. I spoke to a few of my friends, and none of them think that Ugás is a good opponent for Pacquiao. Shawn Porter won against Ugás in 2019, and a few months later, he went down against Errol Spence Jr. So gives an idea about his strength. I know he is a late replacement, but it is really disappointing. I am expecting a lop-sided match.
9587  Economy / Economics / Re: Can developing countries follow El Salvador use Bitcoin? on: August 13, 2021, 01:40:23 AM
Now, if Maduro RE INVESTED the income from oil, when it was a hot commodity, he would be considered the savior of the country. BUT. He used the money for FOOD, and this is the dumbest option, but typical of most countries with a post-socialist / new-communist concept. As a result, it turns out, like yesterday "the people were fed" and even got drunk, but tomorrow came and it turned out that everyone ate, drank, and ... NO MORE MONEY!

He didn't spent all of the money on food. Some of it was spent on food and other essentials, but the majority of it was spent on subsidies. When the gasoline price was $6 per gallon in the United States, the Venezuelan regime was giving it to the citizens at a rate of around $0.01 per gallon. And given how corrupt the system is, most of these subsidies ended up at the hands of those who doesn't deserve it. A large part of the subsidized gasoline was smuggled out to Colombia, with small amounts ending up in Brazil and Guyana.
9588  Economy / Economics / Re: Ukraine is the "island of crypto freedom" in Europe, what to expect ? on: August 13, 2021, 01:29:53 AM
Serbians mistake genocide versus war, and that is the law that was passed and that makes sense. srebrenitsa was a genocide at best, Serbs wanted to kill every single muslim bosnian they found, doesn't matter if it is man, women or child or elderly, they killed everyone, over 8 thousand were slaughtered like cattle, all thanks of the dutch army as well, letting Serbs with guns pass into a zone with Bosnians who had no guns.

A war between Bosnia and Serbia is understandable, both sides can kill each other and it will simply be called a war, and to deny that no Serbian died there would be idiotic, but to call srebrenitsa a war conflict would be just racist and genocidal, nothing more. I am quite happy that Bosnia is finally getting some power, for decades Serbia did whatever they want to them, and nobody in the world intervened, even helped Serbia to commit war crimes, finally we are seeing consequences for them.

You are equating "Bosnian" with Muslim, which I think is false. Bosnia is the region and those who reside there (irrespective of the ethnicity - Serb, Muslim, Croat, Roma - are called as Bosnian). Now I would say that it would be another mistake to claim that the Bosnian Muslims and the Bosnian Croats didn't committed any war crimes and only the Bosnian Serbs did them. For starters, there were thousands of radical Islamists from Afghanistan and other Muslim nations fighting alongside the Bosnian Muslims. I don't want to label all of them as angels.

Sorry, but you're wrong on many accounts. The death toll from the Russo-Ukrainian war is around 14 thousand, not 100 thousand. Also, there's no ceasefire, and the war has been ongoing for 7 years. It's just not as violent as it used to be in the early days, but some people die every month, and there are shootings every single day. The case of Crimea is complex, but the reason behind the transfer isn't unknown, and was done because of the following:
Quote
the integral character of the economy, the territorial proximity and the close economic and cultural ties between the Crimea Province and the Ukrainian SSR

The death toll is at least 25,000-30,000 IMO. There are sources which claim that it may be as high as 100,000. And irrespective of how many people died, it is clear that people lost their loved ones for no fault of theirs.
9589  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: August 13, 2021, 01:19:45 AM
India made 276/3. Now there are only two possible outcomes to this match - either India is going to win this, or we will get another boring draw as a result of rain interruption. Apart from the 39-year old James Anderson, none of the England bowlers looked as if they had the ability to trouble the Indian batsmen. I had high hopes for Ollie Robinson, but he was disappointing yesterday. Perhaps all the controversy surrounding the tweets he made a decade ago took its toll. BTW, Kohli's dry run continues.. this time he got a start, but couldn't get to a 50.
9590  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: August 13, 2021, 01:07:44 AM
I am happy that some European countries are trying to play cricket and you never know when this initiative might get a response. You cannot expect them to play this game without the help of some Asian players. More of such tournaments should be organised in these countries and slowly it will start to trend in the due course of time.

I don't have an issue if they include a few naturalized citizens in their squad. But what they are doing is creating teams which doesn't even have a single citizen (either naturalized ones or those of non-immigrant background) in the playing XI. Obviously when they do this, the natives of that particular country will not show any interest in the sport. And these countries had teams with majority native players until 2010 or so, when the ICC changed the eligibility criteria. The native players just vanished as soon as the criteria was changed. You can include foreigners in franchise T20 teams. But how can you include 11 foreigners in the playing XI for national teams?
9591  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Altcoin Safe for Investment on: August 12, 2021, 03:55:47 AM
The problem right now with altcoin sector is that most of the established coins are close to ATH. The altcoin market share has almost doubled, from 24% to 48% in the last few months. So if you want good returns, then one option is to invest in some of the new projects. And at this point, the success rate for new projects is really low, and even these projects are very overpriced. Back in 2016/2017, it was easy to find projects with soft-cap of $1 million or $2 million. But nowadays, even the smallest ones start at $50 million.
9592  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why be allowed to create tokens with the same names? on: August 12, 2021, 03:44:58 AM
A few years ago, I lost some amount in a similar scam. After that I am more careful and transfer the tokens only after confirming the smart contract address. But at the same time, I don't want to blame anyone. I should also take a part of the blame. Should have confirmed the address before making the transaction, as everyone knows that there is no dearth of scammers in the cryptocurrency sector. And the worst part is that I made the mistake despite having so many years of experience with cryptocurrency.
9593  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 💰 Summer Tokyo 2020 💰 Discussion and bet thread 💰 Summer Game 💰 on: August 12, 2021, 03:30:07 AM
I think the chess issue is really the lack of spectators. It is rare for there to be a significant number of spectators at chess tournaments.
It is very common to have chess tournaments in high school. But usually only this one notices the players or the most direct friends/family of the players.

True. Chess is not a spectator sport. Among my friends, I haven't noticed anyone watching live chess matches. It is a nice time pass as long as you are participating in it, but as a spectator chess is not very exciting. And the IOC is considering to drop some of the most populous sports such as wrestling and boxing to make way for these new set of disciplines. If the IOC want to make Olympics more popular, then they should include regional sports such as Sepak takraw, Cricket, Polo, Bandy, Muaythai, Netball, Sumo, Kabaddi, Wushu and Lacrosse.
9594  Economy / Economics / Re: Ukraine is the "island of crypto freedom" in Europe, what to expect ? on: August 12, 2021, 03:20:49 AM
If we talk about the losses on the part of Ukraine, about 15,000 people fell victim to the occupation by Russian terrorist forces and separatists.

There was a German source which claimed that the number of dead was much higher than the official source. Anyway, it looks as if Russia has achieved their objective. Most of the dead are ethnic Ukrainians (on both the sides), and now Ukraine is being regarded as a "conflict zone". An unresolved conflict in its territory complicates the entry of Ukraine to EU/NATO (the same strategy was used by Russia in other countries, such as Moldova and Georgia). Also, it serves as a warning to other ex-USSR countries such as Belarus and Kazakhstan.
9595  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: You got a pifzer ? Then you can be eligible for lottery in Poland. on: August 12, 2021, 03:11:36 AM
Perhaps the explanation for everything is corruption - Russia loves to pay for its status and buys everyone and everything. By the way, have you heard that the deliveries of the second dose of Sputnik V to Argentina were disrupted? Russia failed to fulfill its contractual obligations, putting Argentina in a difficult position. If this happened on the international market where Russia is trying to maintain its status, then what can be expected from the domestic market where the government does not care about the country's population?

Even in India, the Sputnik V vaccine program is getting delayed because the second component is not available. But I heard that the issue was resolved in Argentina. A local manufacturer started distributing second component doses from this month onwards.

https://www.telam.com.ar/notas/202108/564683-distribuyen-en-todo-el-pais-mas-de-600-mil-dosis-del-componente-2-de-sputnik-v.html

According to the above source, 600k doses of the second component has been distributed, while another 2.4 million will be distributed by the end of this month. Argentina has so far administered 12,468,830 doses of Sputnik V (highest number after Russia). There were some protests there as a result of the delays. But from what I heard, the people still prefer Sputnik V to useless Chinese vaccines (Pfizer/Moderna not available in required quantities).
9596  Economy / Economics / Re: Poor and middle class as a mentality on: August 12, 2021, 03:00:11 AM
Poor and rich are social problems that all countries have.  In the book I read entitled "Zakat", it is said that the solution for the poor and the rich is zakat, in the wealth of the rich there is a right for the poor 2.5% of the total because the essence of man was created to be a leader, when he is well off and has wealth.  If there is excess, then look at your family first, when your family is poor, in your property there is the right of your family and it is obligatory for you to give it.  When your family is prosperous then look at your surroundings, if your neighbor is poor, your neighbor has rights in your property and it is obligatory for you to give it.  When is it said that you are obliged to pay zakat for the poor, when your wealth has met the nisab (rules for calculating it), that is, your wealth is equivalent to 85 grams of gold.  With this zakat, wealth will be distributed to the needy according to the proportion so that human life becomes prosperous.

Handing out freebies can never be a perfect solution. If zakat could resolve the issue of poverty, then there should not be any poor people in countries like Somalia and Sudan. That is not the case. Also, the 2.5% wealth tax is a bit on the higher side, especially if this is done on top of regular income tax. So instead of handouts, I would argue in favor of giving education and skill training for the poor. Handouts will last only for a few days. But the education and skills are permanent and will stay with these people for their entire life and help them to find a proper job.
9597  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Olympics 2020/2021 : Discussion & Predictions on: August 12, 2021, 02:51:15 AM
Well, true sportsmanship was felt by the entire world on the javelin throw event where the gold medal got shared between Barshim of Qatar with Tamperi of Venezuela. This made the entire world understand true sportsmanship and its value. It made people cry out of it. Same as that what's been done here is entirely opposite and such players needs to be give life time ban which needs to be an warning to rest of the players.

LOL.. why repeat the same set of lies again and again?

The gold was shared, because both the athletes were tired and decided against the "jump-off". Al Jazeera and the other Qatari-funded media immediately went ballistic, claiming that the gold given to the Italian athlete was "donated" by the Qatari. The truth is this - Mutaz Essa Barshim and Gianmarco Tamberi had cleared 2.37m, but they failed to clear 2.39m on three occasions. And given how tired they were, I would say either of them had 0% chances of clearing 2.39m, even if a hundred attempts were given. So instead of doing that, they decided to share the gold medal.

The truth doesn't always suit the narrative.
9598  Economy / Economics / Re: In COVID-19 everyone needs motivation on: August 12, 2021, 02:39:48 AM
They can be motivated with that advice but as you've said, there's also a reason for them to not invest unless they're eager to what they've heard about investing in cryptocurrencies. Well, these people won't be motivated if they have no food to take in and what they earn is just exact with their daily needs for food and bills. And with the current problem of jobs laid off, that's the problem that if they are not into investments and only relying to their jobs, they will somehow be motivated that investments will save them in times like this.

Those who have formal jobs are mostly unaffected. The issue is with those who are working in certain sectors such as restaurants, tourism.etc. Until the pandemic is completely contained (that is going to take 6-12 months at least), these sectors may not witness a recovery. Some of the richer countries have compensated those who are out of work. But in the developing nations it is not possible, for obvious reasons. It is a very difficult choice between earning a livelihood and protecting yourself from the disease.

If Ishant gets in to the playing XI, then it will be good. I don't know why he was not considered for the first test. I believe that he is a far better bowler than either Mohammed Siraj or Shardul Thakur. I guess Siraj got in to the team because of the RCB quota. His test record so far is not very impressive, despite the fact that he has played almost all of his matches in seam-friendly conditions. For the second test, I would prefer three seamers (Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami), as well as two spinners (Ravindra Jadeja & Ravichandran Ashwin).
9600  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: August 12, 2021, 02:20:31 AM
Even i was wonder on seeing the scoreboard that European countries are able to play cricket and only a few will be really interested in playing the game as many look to play Football, Baseball, Basketball, Tennis to build a career in sports and cricket is not that popular and hence not a high paying sporting event and since you clarified that the teams are formed with the help of Asian players, that says a lot about their preparation  Grin.

First of all, cricket is not an Olympic sport (at least until now). So that means that there will be no government support. On top of that, for almost two decades, the ICC actively hampered the development of cricket outside the pig-3 nations. When Jagmohan Dalmiya was the ICC president, he had initiated a very successful globalization program, which resulted in the spread of cricket to every nook and corner of the world. But Dalmiya was kicked out in 2000, and the power was seized by the Pawar/Srinivasan gang. After that cricket died out in these smaller nations. The situation changed only in 2015, when Srinivasan was kicked out by the newly elected NDA government in India.
