Tech Giant Hitachi to Study Blockchain in New R&D Lab

Senior Hitachi researcher Satoshi Oshima sits on the project’s technical steering committee, and also serves in a leadership capacity in Hitachi's internal blockchain efforts. That committee appointed its first chair last month and recently heard a proposal submitted by developers for JPMorgan.

Swartz supporter dumps 18,592 JSTOR docs on the Pirate Bay

A 31-year-old American who says his name is Gregory Maxwell has posted a 32GB file containing 18,592 scientific articles to BitTorrent. In a lengthy statement posted to the Pirate Bay, he says that Tuesday's arrest of onetime Reddit co-owner Aaron Swartz inspired the document release.

A date with Sybil

Lately, a fellow bitcoiner contacted me, suggesting that I should try to use OXT in order to check if the recent growth of Bitcoin Classic nodes is a real sign of increasing popularity. I wasn’t very excited by the idea because I’m already convinced that using the number of nodes as a proxy for popularity is a very wrong idea. Because, you know, Sybil is a nice woman but she’s a bit too crazy... Anyway, that seemed like a good study case so I’ve decided to give it a try and see what I could find.

The Lightning Network Glass is Half Full Post

About three weeks ago I wrote a post titled 'The Lighting Network is go Great that it Has all Kinds of Problems' that spawned a lot of discussion.  The purpose of that post was to express my belief that even though the 'Lightning Network' is a very cool piece of technology, it is not some magic silver bullet that can solve all of bitcoin's scaling problems.
