I don't think the quality has dropped. What has dropped is the ability of dumb ideas to get funded on the back of whitepaper written by a bunch of teenagers. You should stop comparing things with how they were last year. 2017 was an anomoly driven by hype and FOMO. Now is the new normal. Good projects will still get funded but dumb ideas with little in the way development or without a strong team will not make their soft cap. 2017 is gone and won't be coming back.

Doubt it, there are more people working on projects on the Ethereum Platform than all the other cryptocurrencies combined. At the end of the day what will drive the value of a coin is its use. EOS has interesting technology and potential but at this point it is the only thing they have. They can not point to hundreds of projects being built on their platform. Rather than slip a place I think that within the next couple years Ethereum will replace Bitcoin as the largest cryptocurrency by market cap.

I have been using the bear market to increase my investment in coins that have had a large fall in value from their ICO price but have shown that they are diligently working on the project and executing their business plan. At the ICO you are very much having to play the odds and guess which ones will be well run based on often limited track records of the team. 6 months later it is very easy to see which ones will fulfill their goals and which ones will never achieve anything.

No, I think it may take some time but eventually the fact that cryptocurrency makes disintermediation a realistic possibilty will mean that all old line financial services companies including banks will disappear. The main role that banks have played is to take your money and then lend it to other people and pay you a portion of the interest they get back to you as interest on your savings. Why will you need a bank to do this in the future when you will be able to purchase interests in loan portfolios directly using cryptocurrency and collect not just your interest but also the portion that would have gone to the bank.

ICO rating sites are worse than worthless. At best you will get the same information as is available on the web site of the company doing the ICO at worst you will get an analysis based on money paid by the company doing the ICO. The reason this is worse than worthless is it creates the illusion that someone has actually verified the information when in truth it has not been checked. I have on numerous occasion found companies that where outright frauds that would be exposed on the most cursory due diligence but getting ratings from multiple "ICO Rating" sites.

PoW is far too energy intensive to be a long term solution. The central argument against PoS as an alternative has been that it is less decentralised than PoW. The idea being that the only thing preventing someone from control over 50% of the nodes and completely controlling the currency is money. But if you look at mining the same argument can be made that it is possible to lease over 50% of the hashing power or buy up enough of the available ASIC mining rigs and also gain control if you throw enough money at it. If a PoS system is implemented that makes it very easy for everyone who holds the currency to take part in the process and would require you to own over 50% of the currency before you could exert effective control over the network then it would be much more impervious to anyone successfully doing that since the price of miners and hashing power tend to be more inelastic to supply and demand than the price of coins. Gaining control over half the mining power may be possible but if you tried to control over half the Ethereum or Bitcoin you would end up driving up the price so that all the fiat in existance would probably not be enough money to buy control.

The "crypto ad's ban" only affects paid advertising and does not effect any social media ads being done as part of a bounty. They have continued without any interruption. The biggest danger to the advertising of ICO's maybe in the future when securities regulators exert more control over ICO's and force them to comply with the same rules that govern the marketing of IPO's.
