961  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Is it possible to use 4 X 6990's? on: June 06, 2011, 12:45:17 PM
I'm curious to see who else is planning on venting their mining rig to the outdoors.

According to the wiki page, that's a max of 375w per card. 1500w just to power the cards.

That's converting 1500w of electricity to heat, 24/7. It's like turning on a blow dryer and just letting it sit there.

Water cooling them will just move the heat from the cards to the radiator. (water pumps also require power and generate heat.)

Yes, but water cooling is alot more effective and efficient for something like this, sit your computer outside your bathroom or something and then it can heat that up Tongue
962  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Is it possible to use 4 X 6990's? on: June 06, 2011, 12:32:15 PM
Thanks

So except for heat there are no other limitations, eg. O/S (Linux will be able to run these?)

BTW, whats the biggest single slot Card available?

Yes, linux can, but windows won't be able to.

964  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Is it possible to use 4 X 6990's? on: June 06, 2011, 12:21:01 PM
and 4 of those suckers in one rig is HOT, with a capital H.

Be prepared to cool them.

Yeah, If I were him i'd get PCI extenders and stick waterblocks (+ like 10 fans) on each one.
965  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Is it possible to use 4 X 6990's? on: June 06, 2011, 12:10:25 PM
Should do, just be careful you don't run the power from the same line as the rest of your house, ie toaster, oven etc.

You MIGHT need 2 1000v PSU's, I don't have a 6990 but i know they drain alot of juice.
966  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Can I put Vid Cards in a HP DL380 G5 server? on: June 06, 2011, 10:55:54 AM
Shiiiiiiiit its win2008R2 . . file me as  . . . SOL!!!

altho i have MS VM thingie going, if I made a ubuntu VM would that work?

I doubt it, you could image the server as it is, install ubuntu, then install windows in the vm, because the miners need direct access to the GPU's and HAL.

DO you guys think I can throw 2 or 3 PCIE cards in there>? Or does it have to be video card slots? Or can they just boot up with it even with no monitors plugged into them to run mining routines?

Thx, Im a sooper noob like seriously 45 minutes into discovering this shit & I dont wanna pay miningrigs.com $4k for a a fukkin athlonX2 lol

You could probably use some PCI extender cables to hook GPU's up to it (no idea what the cables are called haha)

969  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: *australia* new uncensored witcher 2 for 2BTC -- free postage on: June 06, 2011, 09:59:08 AM
hey guys I have a retail (boxed) copy of the witcher 2 for sale. this is completely unopened and still in the shrink wrap. I'm selling because I got impatient waiting for it (bought from cdwow.com.au) so bought a local copy. can provide pictures if wanted. I'm in tasmania, and don't want to sell out of australia. I'll also do free postage. also, this is uncensored, so you won't have the australian crappy version. I'd prefer to trade with someone who has some trading reputation (i'd be willing to mail it out then get payment with a reputable person). feel free to ask any questions if i've missed anything. and I understand if you're sceptical of me because this is my first post Smiley

What state? shit lol. i'll give you 1btc for it ^_^, pc yeah?

972  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How much is a MegaHash/s worth? on: June 06, 2011, 09:45:33 AM
Is there a website or service that computes how much a megahash/s will earn you daily on average, taking into account the current difficulty?

Thanks!

975  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin client 0.3.22 problem on: June 06, 2011, 09:00:41 AM
You running the client in daemon mode?
No.I just launched it normally like the older version.

You have to run "bitcoind -daemon" if you want to mine solo, else you will get the RPC error.
