It's not about rising difficulty, it's the question of, if the difficulty were 1 billion today, would the device earn money above its electricity costs. The answer is yes, about $17.50 a day:

Even that depends drastically on your electricity costs which vary from < $.08/kw to $.22/kw. In Europe, power is even more expensive. Obviously if you have free power, then that's a different story - once the purchase costs are paid for, then you never shut it off.

free power for me (running it at my office!)

Secondly, the 60M difficulties.
This device, as specced, would still be profitable if the difficulty were 1 billion.

you are correct sir!

142.50 a month at 1 billion difficulty. not bloody bad.

That doesn't appear to take into account future rising difficulty, purchase or electricity costs. Try a little bit more accurate calculator:

It is a reasonable offer Keenan... consider the upgrade units for all the Saturn purchasers, the Avalon orders just shipped and KNC is not outputting any orders from Dec through Feb and have a (probable) terrahash machine on the way for March.

What wouldn't make sense would be buying a BFL machine now... or better yet sell off anything you have currently because the next three months you have to make back whatever you bought before these monsters come out. Can't wait for my KNC order to fill.

selling a pre-order is just a dick move in my opinion. sorry i dont mean to be rude, but its kind of jerkish. i already have my order for knc in and i eagerly await its arrival as well.
966  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: July 19, 2013, 03:16:29 AM
My order that I just placed today says -  New (payed). Does that mean it still has to be processed or am I good to go?

I sent payment via paypal and it shows as completed on my end.
You're good, methinks.

i placed an order about 5 days ago, i still have to pay.
if i don't pay in 7 working days i'll lose my position right?
(however, being at this level of cue doesn't make much difference Smiley)

I think the 7 day rule only applied to the earliest pre-orders. All current orders are queued by date of payment. I don't think your order is even in the queue until you pay.

yup. thats correct. pay up right away!

hey man, maybe you can add an upgrade column? just for shits and giggles?

I updated the OP when the upgrades came out :
Quote
If you bought an upgrade, give the final product that you will have; For example Mercury to Saturn, just say you bought a Saturn.
For me, making an "Upgrade" column won't be really useful and it would be harder to read (and I'm kind of lazy).

oh sorry man, didnt see that. lol.

This is fantastic news. Here's what it comes down to.

Knc is going to protect our ROI by selling not in batches but time-periods, giving breathing room.

Like when Avalon announced chip sales, that was a surprise to everyone. Similarly, would batch-2 have sold well if they knew batch-3 was coming and coming right on their heels.

It is, yet again, a sign that Knc is a step above everyone else out there.

As for this gen-2 device they plan to sell in March--wasn't I just talking about them doing this ^_^ If these guys plan things right, they'll form a bandwagon that we can jump on. Imagine if they keep delivering in six month cycles.

Or even maybe three month cycles with other pow between the six month sha256 cycles?

i wonder if they will offer early adopter discounts Smiley

if you dont have the money to risk, then dont risk it.

why is this so hard? i make good money and im willing to risk a portion of it....

ok, i 'll not starve to death if it turns in a bad investment but i don't have disposable money to waste either

everybody tries to find out the best trustable seller.
maybe some don't need to think a lot about it, lucky ppl  Smiley

lol no i understand, but this whole bitcoin thing is based on risk so it gets annoying when people bitch and complain all day about this stuff. just go to work then! lol

What the hell does this question mean?Huh   What???  Fire risk???  Please explain..

I ordered a KnC Jupiter a while back. One thing I've been thinking abut recently: Are these miners likely to be safe to leave unattended? I mean....I do need to leave the house once in a while. I wouldn't want to come back from shopping to find my house has burnt down. Unattendance recommendations?

If they are certified they will be. If not, you takes your chances.

its an electronic, it has a fire risk. whats to explain?

we should just lock this once useful thread, and start a new one.
979  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTS Butterfly Labs 5gh/s Jalapeno IN HAND on: July 13, 2013, 04:45:47 PM
actually, you should know that most of the chargebacks occur at about 20-25 days.. so they mine with it for that long, then charge back.  Paypal will honor it, and you'll get your unit back, but they get a month's revenue in the meantime.

i have never heard of this actually happening. lol
980  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTS Butterfly Labs 5gh/s Jalapeno IN HAND on: July 13, 2013, 04:35:01 PM
Wow nice !
