961  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Coinbase sees complaints grow on: September 08, 2017, 09:25:00 PM
Is Coinbase hiding something and that its really running a fractional reserve now? Its supposed to be one of the most professional services out there in Bitcoin. What happened to them?

This is from Peter Todd on Twitter.

The "congestion" explanation doesn't make any sense.

I'd recommend the precaution of taking you BTC out, as they may be covering up a hack.

Theres nothing to do with congestion because most exchangers or service doesn't really experience such thing on having delays. Those complaints are legit and I'm one of them and this is why I decided to pull out funds as early as I can.We don't know if they do covering up a hack or not but for our own safety better to get out if you don't like to lose up money. There are lots of wallets to choose from this is why I didn't trust any exchange wallets.

Exactly. Better safe than sorry.

It is extremely likely that coinbase may be experiencing liquidity issues, and therefore cannot afford to bring new support staff in or even upgrade their system. Basically no progress has been made in the entire 3rd quarter in improving anything, which is extremely fishy.

Pull out when you still can. Coinbase may be legit now, but they may turn scam just like Cryptsy or Mt Gox which were once considered to be trustworthy. Get your funds into a wallet that you actually hold the private keys of.
962  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Coinbase wallet on: September 07, 2017, 07:43:38 AM
Would you think that coinbase wallet is more secure for stock for bitcoin?

And is there any possibility to lost my btc from coinbase wallet?

Any wallet service that doesn't allow you access to your coins by letting you export your own private keys is risky to use.

Even though coinbase is a registered company regulated under the US government, it is still possible for them to get hacked and you in effect get nothing back, and lose all your balance. Although this is unlikely this is something to consider when you are planning on storing money with them.

Also just would like you to know that recently, coinbase support has been absolutely horrible. Users do not get any response for weeks, and often they have issues sending bitcoin or transferring btc out of the vault. Would not recommend using them unless they solve these issues.
963  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: MyEtherwallet issues - all my Eth and tokens balance are disappeared on: September 07, 2017, 07:27:03 AM
I've issues with MyEtherwallet . today I had to transfer some funds from MyEtherwallet to online-shop, I able to login but all my Eth and tokens balance are disappeared. at https://etherscan.io/address all my Eth and tokes balance are there!

Please provide us with an actual link to wherever your ethereum and tokens were transferred to, otherwise we can't do anything about it.

Myetherwallet has proven to be a legitimate company over the last couple of years. When it came out people were pretty skeptical but now it is integrated into hardware wallets and used by thousands of people. It would be completely unwise for them to scam you, because they would be losing out on so much.

Maybe it is still syncing? I know that usually it takes around 10-30 seconds for my balances to show up on myetherwallet when i'm using it.

If it is actually gone then i would consider running a virus scan, because you were likely hacked.
964  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Any thoughts about HitBTC? on: September 07, 2017, 07:14:20 AM
HitBTC is a multicryptocurrency exchange site with low taker fees and NO MAKER FEES! It isn't as popular as Bittrex, Poloniex, etc. What do you think about it? Anyone had experience using it?

I have used it to cash out some of my bitcoin cash when the split occurred and didn't have an issue with anything.

However they do have negative trust on this forum on a relatively old issue, and their customer support is not the best that i have seen in the exchange business. There are also some accusations of them being linked to minergate and changelly which is somewhat unconfirmed.

All exchanges have risks and if you were trading with an amount below $1000 i would have no issues trusting hitbtc with my funds.

But anything large i would be careful about trading there. Stick to bittrex.
965  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Does Bittrex report to the IRS? on: September 07, 2017, 06:56:39 AM
Im thinking about trading very soon.  I hear everyone says bittrex is the best option to trade.  I want to know does bittrex report to the irs?  To those of you who trade with bittrex, do you get a 1099 tax form or anything like that?  And if so, what does it show?  Does it show your transactions or profits or withdraw?  The thing is you could withdraw say 15k worth of btc... but 13k btc could be deposits and your income is only 2k.

And if this is not the right forum, i assume it should go on the legal forum?  I like to know from people who traded on bittrex if they receive these forms or not.  Or is everything on the user to record gains and losses etc. The thing is what if someone adds it incorrectly and off a bit then?

I've been using bittrex and they have never ever mentioned anything about tax.

I personally do not think that they report to the IRS but then they could, and i'm not that familiar with US tax codes. I would assume that it is a DIY process, in which you fill out everything yourself and submit it to your relevant department.

You can always export your trading history and view it, which makes management easier i guess.
966  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Coinbase sees complaints grow on: September 04, 2017, 11:45:56 AM
This always happens to Coinbase whenever Bitcoin price increasing rapidly, it's not that they lack supports but they just do it for their own purpose IMO, of course, they get huge benefits when the price increased that why they just hold the withdrawing process for their clients and will release soon when price got stable at the moment. And I'm not wondering if this exchange got the highest received complaints for this year since they always do even last year.

Manipulating transactions is a fraudulent act. If the manipulation is perpetrated to gain a pecuniary advantage while causing losses or inconveniencing their customers, then this is fraud. If their customers were to reverse roles and conduct trades where Coinbase feels they are disadvantaged, I'm sure this company would use every legal tool in their arsenal to not only financially ruin them but to also make them suffer the full brunt of the law. This is a company operating negligently with impunity.

Their excuses and apologies mean nothing if they actually do not implement changes to their operational procedures. Have a look at their pitiful reviews:

https://www.trustpilot.com/review/coinbase.com
http://bittrust.org/coinbase

Well, trustpilot is always inaccurate because it is filled with competitors trying to defame their opponents. But that is the general picture here. Coinbase has almost poloniex and yobit like support right now, and the situation seems to be only getting worse.

The CEO has recognized the problem but has done nothing about it.

He says that he will reduce the wait time to 6 hours, which is far from accurate. And he said that he'll focus Q3 on fundamentals like user experience, which he did not do well at all. If anything, it got worse.

I wouldn't be using coinbase at all, even though it might seem convenient. Full of booby traps.

This is the very same reason that's why I quit coinbase and moved somewhere else. There is no improvement after the CEO said that he will address this issue, on the contrary it gotten worst already. I surmised that in a average, they are at least receiving 1 complaints a day and nothing has been done about it that's why the queue has clog and a lot of backlogs aren't even answered. We understand that it is a difficult task to operate an exchange especially now since the user based is growing exponentially, but at least they should have upgrade their support and infrastructure to be able to deal effectively with the difficult situation. I guess they have earn millions and millions and it should be easy for them to improved and raised their standards. Sadly this is not the case, they let their customers down by falling on deaf ears.

Precisely. When you are a multimillion company that is considered to be one of the go to wallets for new bitcoin users, you better make a good product with a team of quality customer support. They keep on adding new features and coins, but seem to have completely forgotten that what people really look for is just a fast response to their tickets. And this is what makes all the difference really between a good exchange and a great exchange.

Especially after the founder himself said this, in public, viewable to anyone on their blog. This is unacceptable...

Hopefully they can sort their crap out before the end of the year. Otherwise if the amount of unanswered support tickets continue to rise, then i'm sure we'll see a sharp decline in active users on coinbase.
967  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Coinbase ignored to solve problem & return money on: September 04, 2017, 11:38:48 AM
Just to let you know. The problems have not ceased since the end of the last month and only have gotten worse it seems. There is even a thread that is pointing out the issues that coinbase is having: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2140892.0

If i can recall correctly then the CEO of the company said in June that he would reduce support response time to less than 12h at the least, and Q3 would be spent on fundamentals such as customer support. But this has never happened, and unanswered support tickets are just piling up.

They do not deserve to get our business if they can't even answer a simple query in time. I would avoid using coinbase for now.
968  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price and financial crisis/downturn on: September 04, 2017, 11:16:35 AM
Hi,

Up to now, Bitcoin hasn't gone through financial crisis. Maybe one financial crisis is near (look at financial market overvaluation)

in case of financial crisis, bitcoin price could
-collapse as big money people will withdraw from any investment,
-surge as BTC could be seen as an escape to current financial system
-remain stable

Do you think that in case of a major financial crisis like in 2008, bitcoin price will collapse, surge or remain stable?

thanks

Interesting scenario.

Actually since bitcoin is decentralized i think that would be what saves bitcoin from being negatively affected by the financial crisis. Usually in the financial crisis, especially if it is inflation based people are looking for a safe currency that would store their wealth in the long run and not having to worry about it in the long run.

Bitcoin is perfect for this purpose. Commodities and stocks will be worst hit, but bitcoin probably will actually going up because of the increase demand in something that people can safely put their wealth in and forget about it and know that nobody can print more of it infinitely.
969  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: BTC-e apparently back, but is the e-mail they say they're sending me...legit? on: September 04, 2017, 11:09:58 AM
Some others definitely had the same issue.

If you have gotten the instructions from the actual btc-e.nz site when you typed your password then i would be 90% confident that it is the real btc-e.nz. Check the sender carefully, if everything matches up and only then would i even consider to click the link.

Check if the hyperlink actually goes to btc-e.nz as well, and not just some phishing site.

BTC-e should have made this more clear tbh... I'm just giving you advice here, do things at your own risk mate.
970  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: streetcredit.co.in - SCAM! DO NOT INVEST! on: September 04, 2017, 10:54:14 AM
This should be obvious as hell, nobody is going to be able to give you 20% daily interest without any risk on your coins. Even the biggest gainers on coinmarketcap usually does not achieve more than 20%, and altcoins are considered to be extremely volatile.

This is just another ponzi scheme or just a scam that will eat your money as soon as you invest.

But interesting research, this person is actually selling scripts to facilitate ponzi scammers. Shame on him but unfortunately we really can't do anything much to stop him. Just use your brains, people.
971  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Increasing Very Fast! on: September 03, 2017, 02:32:01 AM
First time I was thinking that in December btc will go about 5k usd.
But now I see that is just In this month..
So BTC Increasing Very Fast and go to December more Than 6k or more..

Then, need to hold and wait the most result

This is quite unexpected, how the whole market is rising so quickly.

I would say that everyone who wants to still get in, don't buy now. Even after the correction the price is still extremely high, and we do not know when or how the major dumpoff of btc is going to come. Every pump could be the last.

Right now people are going in a frenzy in buying btc, this imo will continue probably for the entire month and perhaps even into the next month. But after that i think we may see a pretty devastating bear market.
972  Economy / Speculation / Re: So where exactly are we in the bubble? on: September 03, 2017, 01:49:52 AM
you must unlearn what you have learned.

Do not try and predict the bubble. That's impossible. Instead only realize the truth... There is no bubble. Then you will see it is not the bubble that pops, it is yourself.

That's BS. Over 1000% of profits in a year and yet this is not a bubble?

Plus, this is what everyone says when there is a bubble. Everyone is over-optimistic and seems to have no logical thinking skills whatsoever. There are people out there predicting $7k+ for this month, which i believe in absurd. It could happen, but then the bubble just got bigger.

If bitcoin actually improved 10x as a currency and functioned better, as well as getting more users then sure, this 1000% rise isn't a bubble. But it probably hasn't even doubled its attributes or user base since last year.

I think that we are in the mania phase already judging from how the price is going atm.
973  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coins.ph Customer Service on: September 03, 2017, 01:37:44 AM
Just wondering if there are any guys out there who recently encountered a problem on contacting their customer supports? A day ago I've cashed out just to use it personally. Knowing that the code (I use the cardless ATM option) usually arrives in mere minutes, I immediately drove to the nearest ATM in our area, but lo and behold. I stood there for a good 20 minutes but no code. Tried to resend a new code but still nothing comes in on my phone; no text, no anything, so I decided to call their hotline but no one answers.

Tried to chat them in the app but nothing.

Posted in their FB page (I created an fb account just for that) and still no response.

After standing and waiting there for an hour, finally the code arrived, and their customer support came back to me after I informed them that the problem is fixed.

For a service like them, having a live chat would be necessary, and someone should answer the damn hotline if someone is calling.

Just my two cents and a not so good experience. They've always been A+ for me but apparently their customer support team right now is pretty sloppy. Has anyone experienced the same issue lately?

I've seen some of my filipino friends complain about the same issue.

You're right. If they were oging to offer a cardless ATM option to cash out your bitcoins then they better be ready to solve any sort of issues, delays, etc. online. Because the nature of cardless codes are real-time and there is an expiry time traditional customer support via tickets is not sufficient.

I would definitely recommend letting the customer support about how bad your experience is and suggest everything that you've said here to them.

They may not change anything, but hey. It's worth a try.
974  Economy / Speculation / Re: predictions of the price of a Bitcoin by the end of 2017 on: September 03, 2017, 01:32:01 AM
funnily enough there are a wide range of speculation about the price of bitcoin by the end of this year and most of them are speaking of very huge prices such as $10,000 and above.

i personally don't know anymore Smiley
before activation of SegWit things were more predictable, with a slow rise over time. but SegWit put an end to the old scaling debate and opened up way for bigger rises. we saw the rise from $2400 to $4000 (mostly) because of it. and we can expect much more at a faster pace.

your 8K prediction no longer seems far to me.

I agree!  It is true I believe $10k  is even reachable at the end of the year.  We have seen how fast bitcoin price grow and this is not just a pump or bubble and there is a reason for this.  The upcoming series of update right after this August 1 upgrade is initiated.  Scaling will not be an issue to Bitcoin anymore if this is perfectly done.  AFter that bitcoin will be ready to be at the mainstream where majority of people in the world can transact in Bitcoin without any hassle.
Yes indeed, it may reach $ 10k in early 2018, because if we look back at the beginning of 2017 bitcoin from the price of $ 1000 per coin and until now bitcoin about $ 4500 per coin. the popularity of bitcoin makes the world's companies also interested in Bitcoin technology, especially allowing the decentralization of financial networks and Blockchain, where all Bitcoin transactions are recorded.

I don't think that the trend of crazy upwards growth is going to carry over to 2018.

This is simply because after the hype there is always a year or two where nobody talks about bitcoin at all. The price usually suffers greatly as a consequence because of the lack of media coverage as well as user interest.

I'm not sure whether this bubble is going to continue till the end of the year, if it does then $7-8k is possible. But if it collapses before that, then we'd be looking at $2k-3k.
975  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BTC-e, potential ID theft opperations after shut down on: September 03, 2017, 01:23:14 AM
I've seen many questionable websites popping up, some of which are asking for ID documents claiming that recovery of BTC-e funds will be possible... So far I think that the only official source of information would be is their twitter account: https://twitter.com/btcecom

Throughts?

Mind listing some of these questionable websites?

Should be obvious that you should be only trusted their official twitter handle, and all others would be impersonators trying to scam your coins. The only legit site should be btc-e.nz, and all other domains are also scammers.

If you enter any personal details into those sites, prepare for your identity to be stolen.

Interestingly, the refund page for btc-e doesn't seem to work right now. Anyone know what's happening with this?
976  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Fortune Jack forced me to gamble even after I told them I had a gambling problem on: September 03, 2017, 01:20:07 AM
Hello, MrMisley

My name is Natalie and I am the current community manager and a representative for FortuneJack casino here at Btalk.
Very sorry to hear about your recent experience, but kindly restrain yourself from making false accusations using a conversation with our support, which is out of context and does not tell the whole story.
Let me explain to the other forum members what has happened.
MrMisley has contacted us asking help about their first deposit bonus, which he did not get because he did not activate it on time, this was explained to him in details. Even after we checked with our dev team he kept saying that he did activate the bonus, which is not true, thus he became upset and decided to take back the funds he has deposited.
Unfortunately to him, we no longer allow withdrawals without 5x wagering, which is legit as we pay all transaction fees for our players from our end. This was also explained as you already see in the conversation above.
In addition, if anyone is interested, we can provie proof, screenshots, that bonus was not active + chat conversation with the bettor above.
We care about our bettors, thus we do have Responsible Gambling section included on our main page - https://fortunejack.com/help/responsible_gambling
Gambling Addiction is not something to make fun of and we do understand that, but it can not be a false reason to trick FortuneJack into being a charity organization.

Yours in gambling,
FortuneJack Team

What does he get for the 5x wagering requirement? I'd say close to nothing, just a free withdrawal which would have cost him only like 0.0005 BTC anyways. But he has everything to lose, he could likely lose his entire balance in the process of trying to just withdraw.

You could have handled the situation much more appropriately by letting him withdraw, but charging him a small fee to cover the transaction fee. Especially after he said that he had a gambling issue, you should have helped him out.

This just suggests to me that you do not care about the people who essentially gave you everything that you have right now.
977  Economy / Exchanges / Re: ***Warning: Visited Poloniex' "Corporate Offices" ***These Are My Findings*** on: September 03, 2017, 12:28:47 AM
Okay, wasn't bothered to read over the whole thing but essentially you are saying that poloniex's physical address listed on their site isn't occupied by anyone related to them at all? Or am i missing something here?

If i'm right, do you have pictures of the said building being occupied by whatever companies that you pointed out in OP?

This could be a major finding if it turned out to be true, as poloniex is in constant struggle to process deposits and withdrawals. Their customer support is almost non-existent if something goes wrong.
978  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Is it still worth trusting the services of Xapo? on: September 03, 2017, 12:07:41 AM
I am one of those beginners whose initial choice to get my first satoshis were the faucets. At that time Xapo was instituted as the wallet preferred by beginners because it did not charge fees, allowed very small transactions and was the most popular wallet among faucet managers.

But over the course of this couple of years all those attributes that made it advantageous have been gradually disappearing and has become an expensive and especially risky wallet since Xapo is the sole owner of our private keys. The disadvantage of this matter has now come to light more than ever because it has not given us options to collect our portion of the corresponding Bitcoin Cash.

That is why I wonder if anyone in the forum still sees some advantage for which it is convenient to continue depositing our coins in Xapo?

Xapo lost a huge attraction when they started charging ridiculously high transaction fees. I understand that the bitcoin network fee were high but they started to charge much more than that, and that totally defeats the point of using xapo as a micropayments wallet.

I think that the only attraction right now is if you have neteller and you want to convert them into btc, then xapo is probably still the best place to go to. Apart from that though, basically every other service is better.

Their customer support is alright, but not the best.
979  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Any Good Bitcoin to Paypal/Other Online Payment System? on: September 02, 2017, 08:02:30 AM
Hello, it is been a long time since I logged in to this account and I think I will go back to cryptocurrency world. Now, I am looking for good bitcoin exchanges that offer exchanges like bitcoin to paypal or perfectmoney and other payment system. The more the exchange cover, the better for me because I plan to setup an bitcoin exchange that is open to my peers at a cost-plus pricing method.

Thanks to those who will recommend some website Cheesy Smiley

Welcome back!

Well, bitcoin to perfectmoney is pretty straightforward since it is irreversible and even when it's centralized the customer support can't give two damns about when you get scammed. They just simply won't chargeback anyone. That means that you can essentially go with any online exchanger as long as they are legit, i like to use changer and within changer you can trade payeer, advcash, and okpay as well as PM.

Paypal you are carrying a risk since anyone can charge you back up to 180 days or even more at times. I would recommend dealing with trusted exchangers on forum like zazarb or shdvb, or coinbase if you are willing to provide ID. Don't deal with random nobodies that you just met.
980  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Hashflare screwed us up. on: September 02, 2017, 07:10:54 AM
Hashflare changed contract terms unilaterally and gave clients 0 days warning. In fact 0 seconds.

Sent out the following letter at midnight today

Previously they been selling 10 ghs at 1.20 so it's a markup of healthy 100% which is OK it's their hardware. But then they broke all contracts and changed indefinite term to 1 yr which would be somewhat legal if customers who disagree get their money back. You cannot change a contract without both sides signing it off. It's illegal even in zimbabwe.

Quote
Dear users,

The cryptocurrency industry has always been susceptible to a high amount of volatility, and recent global changes have been some of the most significant. Due to an industry-wide hardware deficit, many market participants, especially mining hardware manufacturers, have to adjust their operations, procurements, terms, and prices of ASIC miners and their delivery.

Per Section 5 of Hashflare Terms of Service, SHA-256 and Scrypt contracts are now also subject to change. The changes, which mainly cover the terms and the prices of the contracts will become effective on September 1, 2017.

The new price for 10 GH/s of SHA-256 will be $2.40, while 1 MH/s of Scrypt will now cost $11.50. The maintenance & electricity fee will remain the same.

All new SHA-256 and Scrypt contracts will be issued for a limited term of 1 year from the moment of activation. All SHA-256 and Scrypt contracts activated prior to 01.09.2017 will expire on 31.08.2018.

Sincerely,
Hashflare.io team

Damn, this is pretty fucked up and they obviously have no care for their customers at all.

How is it possible that they are able to just change their terms and conditions whenever they feel like it and basically reduce the customer's contract terms, even though when the customers signed up for the contract they were told that it was "lifetime"?

They are essentially robbing people off their money... From already a pretty rip-off contract deal in the beginning.

Thankfully i don't use hashflare but i feel for the peolpe who did invest...
