963  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: what else can the mining rig do while its mining? on: August 21, 2011, 10:55:07 PM
Considering the high TDP of quad-core processors you're actually paying for the distributed computing projects.
964  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: help me on asus eah5870 overclock on: August 21, 2011, 02:17:15 AM
What is your power supply wattage?

Don't you have a dedicated 6 pin?

Voltage is way low.  MSI Afterburner will let you increase the voltage but if you're not supplying enough power to the card it won't matter.
965  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: help me on asus eah5870 overclock on: August 21, 2011, 01:41:08 AM
in sapphire trixx by default it shows. 850 core, 1200 memory, but gpu voltage 793 only (can't adjust)
There's your problem.  You should be running 1050mV at the minimum.

I'm happy to report to the thread that I just ordered my FPGA miner.

molecular, thank you very much! You won't be disappointed. Also, as one of our first customers, you locked in a 10% discount for life

Edit: We are down to 2 boards left now. And we are trying to work out a selling deal with Cablesaurus!!!
Still have the 2?

I'll buy both if you can accept PayPal as I don't have enough BTC.  Please pm me details.

I actually put mine to work on World Community Grid doing research on things like cancer. (we call it crunching)

In fact it is the reason I started mining...to help fund more crunching rigs and pay the electric

There are a bunch of us over at Xtremesystems (a computer forum) that have added cards to our rigs to do this.

come pay us a visit. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?207-World-Community-Grid-(WCG)

Need more rigs and stuff???

Those of you with an interest might want to have a go at winning stuff in another computer forum's BIG Giveaway

If you join to have a go then tell them Grumpy sent you....

Yes, some BOINC or F@H project would be a good way to contribute your computing power.
Or a baldness cure...

I'm Bot mining in Runecraft (cpu usage) making $6.5 a month per bot... think 1 bot per 500 Mhz/512 Ram * # of cores.
Does that cover the additional electricity used for the CPU?
975  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Asus Ares 4GB Dual Radeon HD 5870 Limited Edition Value? on: August 17, 2011, 02:12:06 AM
I wouldn't pay more than $450 for one.
Then you'll never have one (well at least not until the 7 series comes out).

Ares is rock solid at 1ghz per core.  It's an animal.  Google reviews and you'll notice the reviewers jizzing in their pants over it's OC ability.  Is it financially worth it?

No.  But it is definitely the best you can get...
976  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 5970 doesn't want to overclock on: August 17, 2011, 02:00:13 AM
You're not going to get a stable 900mhz on a 5970.  If you get 850 stable consider yourself lucky.  Most run around 810-840 without issues (the latter being the better chips).
977  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Going to 240 volts. Questions... on: August 17, 2011, 01:58:11 AM
1)  Is it as easy as flipping the switch on the back of the PSU and getting some plug adapters?

2)  What is a "safe" amount of juice to pull through a single outlet?  Is 10 amps ok?  15?

Top-Rated Powerseller (you are welcome to contact me to verify validity through eBay).  However, if planning to pay with BTC, do NOT purchase via eBay.
