Received a response from www.kraken.com re listing BC

"Hello,

Thanks for asking. We don't have any plans to add any other digital currencies at the present time. We're open to adding more currencies in the future, but every currency we add first has to go through a lengthy process of evaluation. For example, in the case of Namecoin, we found a serious bug in the protocol during our evaluation process.

http://www.coindesk.com/namecoin-flaw-patch-needed/

The bug was of course fixed before we allowed trading in Namecoin on our exchange. This evaluation process takes valuable time away from other important development projects, and at the present time we can't spare the resources needed to add a new currency."

Another Idea:
Has anyone tried to contact other exchanges that trade fiat money, like kraken, bitstamp or bitcoin.de? I Just dropped them a message and suggest you do the same.

+1 for Kraken. I use them a lot. Their founder is very active and 'visible'. I've also sent them a request to have BC added
963  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | on exchanges | PoS | No premine on: April 01, 2014, 02:45:33 PM
if i would buy a decent amount now, should i do it in small increments or in one trade?

I don't think it matters,  My opinion though is that BC is unpredictable and should be valued much much higher than it is now.  So when I buy BC, I always buy a 'sell' order.  I don't set a buy order much lower.  I did that once a couple weeks ago and I didn't buy a single BC when the price tanked sharply then jumped back up before touching my buy order.  I would have 30,000 more BC today if I just bought at market and we won't ever see those prices again.

+1 ....... for a non day trader. I bought some more this morning. Suddenly cottoned on to the 'buy a sell order' route by simply clicking on the relevant sell order on MintPal to pre-populate the Buy form. Much simpler. I too have missed out ( notably during the last 4000 dip ) by trying to work out where to place Buy orders.

If you're buying to hold, just buy what people are selling.

Sheesh ... it's at times like this when you really feel the difference in confirmation times between BTC and BC ... funds stuck in 'pending'

I think the key is for us to compare it with Bitcoin so people can understand it. I would like us to mention:

- Must faster transaction speeds compared to Bitcoin. This is more convenient in general but also makes it more practical for point of sale transactions
- Pure proof of stake compared to Bitcoin's proof of work. This makes blackcoin less wasteful of energy (a good figure to quote would be $17 million bitcoin miners use in electricity every day -  google for the exact figure)
- Much cheaper in price and market capitalisaion compared with Bitcoin. This means investors and speculators have a much larger potential upside with huge growth possibilities.

Since we want this to coincide with the Cryptocurrency Convention in NYC I think this will be a fruitful approach since a lot of people will already be familiar with Bitcoin so it we highlight Bitcoin's weakness and compare them to Blackcoin's strengths it will have a greater impact. Smiley

I don't mine, so am not familiar with energy use costings etc. I'm therefore just responding with what is more of a query than anything else.

Is there any way of calculating the amount / cost of energy used by the BC multipool(s), even approximately ?

I ask, because if we are going to release something for the press ( great idea ), stating, among other things, that BC is more energy efficient, then hadn't we better consider how energy efficient the whole ecosystem that is developing around it is ?

I know that POS makes the coin by itself more energy efficient, but, it wouldn't take even a lazy-assed journo much time to see how much discussion and emphasis is given over to the multipools, link the two, and, if the energy use of the pools takes us up to a level close to that generated by miners working for BTC, it'd be a simple enough step to label BC hypocrytical, etc

We don't want to be setting ourselves up for that kind of backlash with our first PR effort.

What is it with 37846 from 5 days ago that has me so stuck from, does anyone have a clue for me.

Have you tried deleting the blockchain and re-synching ? Failing that, close down the wallet and re-open it ( sounds daft, but worked for me a couple of times, there were a few blocks that it seemed to get hung up on )
967  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | on exchanges | PoS | No premine on: March 28, 2014, 10:56:05 AM
I think I prefer the Mark Zuckerberg approach of getting it out there quick and dirty and fixing bugs as we go. Every day without an update is a whole load of potential hashes wasted.

Everything depends upon context, and in this context, I couldn't disagree more. Facebook is a social networking platform which doesn't have the capacity to wreck individual users investments. If it breaks a bit, no problem.

If you release a slightly buggy financial instrument, people might be willing to accept its not-quite-working status for a little while, but eventually, users could be left with the impression that the system is being develloped by a bunch of kids with no real regard for its users financial status, and as a consequence, give up on it and never return.

My own opinion is that, given the very early stage of this coin's development, waiting for a well executed, polished, effective tool to be released is the way to go. I think many of us forget that there are still very few people who are aware of the existance of coins such as this.

Apple don't release slightly iffy versions of their products ( well, maybe they do, I don't use them, but this is my impression ) ... they release great looking product that just works, and people love it. If BC can keep calm for a bit, be patient, release the killer tool when it is ready, the market will set itself around around it.

It is great to see everyone excited about the possibility of a BlackCoin Card. I will post updates here directly to the forum and keep everyone updated as this progresses. I will try and be as transparent as possible along the way.

I know you've said that a physical card would to start with be restricted to America/Canada, but if there's any scope to make this available in Europe, I'd be interested.

Why btc is dropping so hard? Any ideas Huh

Chinese Central bank will ban Chinese digital currency exchanges in next month

That is a false report :
http://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-price-declines-following-false-report-chinas-bitcoin-ban/

Meanwhile, sensible people are doing sensible things :

""I should mention that our rebuild will include dedicated private keys per user, and the ability to export them at will. We are intending to become fully transparent, you will have full control of your funds at any time - and with the ability to encrypt your private key, we won't be able to touch your funds without your consent""

Moolah have already listed BC on their exchange, and have mooted the idea that if volume is sufficient, BC will be added to their merchant platforms. BC needs to be associated with people such as this

MintPal ‏@MintPalExchange 10 mins

Apologies for the outage, our datacenter is currently dealing with a very large DDoS attack, which they are mitigating now.

Seems the lower life forms see something they like ... something glinting and shiny ... BC is stirring interest ... some of that interest will come from unwelcome sources ... that's what happens when you do GoodShit

Really what fucking warped logic makes you think that DDOS attack on an exchange means the people causing the DDOS are interested in one specific coin ?

Comments like this are nothing but delusions of grandeur

;] ......... You're right, of course, silly me, strike that ... me and my warped logic and too-soon-to-the-keyboard-fingers always catching me out ... apologies for any distress caused

You can not look at past trends and make assumptions about the future price ..
This could fall into pieces any moment or hit the moon any moment .. who knows ..

Echoing those that have suggested checking out the MAX view on Mintpal's exchange for some perspective :

https://www.mintpal.com/market/BC/BTC

Here's a screenshot of the current timeline

You'll notice that the curve from March 17th to now is almost an exact scaled-up copy of the curve from March 11th to 17th. Except that it is taking a little longer to adjust back to the lower level.

The high point of each curve is 4 times the level of the start of the curve, and it settles back to halfway between.

So, March 11th we were at around 1000 Sat, minor surge, followed by steep surge up to 4000 sat, followed by an immediate retreat to 2000 sat.

March 17th we were at 2000 sat, minor surge, followed by steep surge up to 8000 sat, followed by a more gradual retreat ( maybe back to 6000 sat, probably not ).

Ist  curve took 6 days, 2nd has taken 8 or 9.

So, I thought it'd fun to see where we might be at in a few months if this pattern repeats.

This implies we might reach 50,000 sat by the end of July. The underlying trend is very steady. It has ( gasp! ) troughs as well as peaks ...

All things being equal. Terms and conditions apply. Etcetera etcetera ....

EDIT ( forgot to mark sats in thousands ! )

All my BlackCoin..I was just about to remove them this morning to put on cold wallet after they did the first maintenance but found here that there was a mass theft or WITHDRAWAL and unfortunately lost over 3k coins so I really am out of my depth with all this. Was hoping to save enough coin to be with my Son but I don't see it happening now.

I too feel for those that have lost out. But. You say you lost 3k coins. Do you mean 3k worth of coins, or 3k coins ? 3k coins, at the current rate, is under 100 euros. That's quite a difference.

I lost 3k of coins and for me that is a lot because I had to work for these coins.. what s little to one person is a lot for another. It's all relative. also many know me I am a blogger that is how I earn my coins. I don't have a job and this is what I am trying to do t etch a small living. I am NOT lazy..I work for my coins my blog is bitbillions dot net.. I do giveaways as well so am not here asking for any donations..you can check who i am through my blog.. I don't hide my identity..my fb is elleyan as well. Also anyone wanna verify my identity they can skype me too! I hate when I have been scammed lol to be myself called a scammer.

I didn't suggest that you were attempting to scam.

Today might be the last day to get in before this thing really takes off.

10k by the end of the week.

I agree. People got nervous because of CR, so that means this dip is temporary because CR's ability to protect customers is not a reflection of the ability of Blackcoin to be a sucessful coin. In fact, people wanting to steal it and then findings a way to steal it means it is in demand. Sorry for all those that lost coins, but theft is an indicator of demand and is actually a postive sign for the future vaule. Crooks are bad sure, but they are not dumb. I don't see anyone stealing Flappycoin.

'People' didn't 'work out a way to steal' Blackcoin. Registered CR users were presented an inflated balance, through CR's incompetence, and some of those users took advantage of the situation to withdraw more than they should have been allowed to.

Sure, you could probably still classify that as theft, but there was no pre-meditated, organised heist, just simple opportunism. The surrounding caffuffle will bring BC to the attention of more people, which, in the longer term, is a good thing.

Someone is playing and pumping up the price to sell coins at a high price.Watch out!!

Or some people are following the Gradual Buy technique that David Latapie reposted a few pages back. There have been many incremental 1000 / 2000 buys & sells that 'look' peculiar placed over the past couple of weeks. It might just be people having a play with a wallet worth $100, instead of some big fish with a $100,000 dollar wallet pumping.

Just an option ...

Gradual buy explained
(short link: http://[Suspicious link removed]/gradual-buy-sell-bc)

I just turned 38 today (technically, in 9 hours). BC si a nice Birthday gift  Grin

I am using IconicExpert's method of slow buying atm. I invest 0.01 BTC at a time. I lose money in the short term but it will help blackcoin in the long term. Do like me. IconicExpert or others, please restate your method, it is too painful for me to do it on a smartphone.

Would you mind explaining what this method is ?
Now that I have a computer again, yes Smiley

Say you have 1 BTC. Instead of putting a buy order at market price (or lower), place, say, ten 0.1 BTC orders either at market price.
An improvement if you use a platform the allows conditionnal orders (like stop orders at https://cryptrader.com/ - beware, it won't work with Mintpal because Mintpal has not published its API yet):
place your ten 0.1 BTC order not at market price but at slightly above market price instead.
For instance, if BC is at 8800
Buy order of 0.1 BTC at 8820, 8840, 8860... and the tenth one at 8900.
Granted, you lose two times in the short term: the first time because you buy at market price instead of taking advantage of an occasional drop (e.g. buy orders at 7500) and a second because instead of buying all at once at market price, you actually buy at a more expensive price! This would appears as masochistic to a short-terme trader. But if you're in for the long run, you actually send a signal to everyone: "prices are constantly raising, be confident, no pump and dump, no scam, put your money in everyone".

As IconicExpert said, if people used gradual buy, the price would not be a 8000 now, it would at 9000 or even higher. Your short term losses are more than compensated then.
I call this gradual buy.

The reverse is true too (and this was the topic of the original IconicExpert's post): if you want to cash in without hampering the price of BC, don't sell at "lowest sell price minus 1 satoshi". Sure, you won't instant sell you will have to wait... some seconds to some minutes. I you cannot wait some more seconds, I think you have some serious questions to ask about yourself.

There is two conditions for gradual buying to succeed:
1. To be patient (wait some minutes). Having a stop order-compatible platform helps
2. To have a lot of people do it (that's the tough part)

I hope it is clear for you now. If you wan't more money, use gradual buying.
