969  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ANN: [OPAL] | POS | Anon Encryption Suite | HTML5 WALLET + STORE IN DEVELOPMENT on: October 18, 2014, 10:45:33 PM
how are new developments going?

Very well.  Our backend for the app store is nearly finished, and we have a talented front end designer from our team designing this.

File send will be a bit longer, because we are developing technologies that haven't ever existed before (e.g. decentralized key server)

Coinsource is being worked on, but it's a bit difficult with 7 project leaders.  Expect this (7 stars) within 2-3 days

Wallet UI is a gradual process that you can observe on github while it happens.

Cryptsy in wallet trading is being developed soon.

Thanks for your interest

A question about the encrypted messaging.

Do all nodes store any message they receive forever in the chain?

Or do they simply relay it to other connected nodes and then discard it if the message isn't for them?

The reason I ask, is that scalability issues with huge blockchain size could become a problem. The last I heard bitmessage is having a terrible time dealing with the load.

I read a person's post who said they sent a 1.2K message on Bitmessage, and after 2 days, they were connected to 100 nodes, and processed over 23 gigs of traffic, and their message was yet to be delivered to the destination.

Hi!  I'm bass and I'm lead dev of anon suite.  The question has a few answers.  First, encrypted messages are not stored in the blockchain, but rather in an alternative system called "buckets". These buckets are optional to hold and transmit if you are a node.  In fact, you need to opt I'm, rather than opt out.

Additionally, these buckets are a minuscule amount of bytes, and there is currently no scalability issue.  However, as we develop anon file transfer (using decentralized storage) we may upgrade messages to also use this system.

Thanks for your interest.

Transparency is important

You could say, opacity

Once you get things more solid we would be happy to work with you. You might find some helpful stuff in our codebase you can use to avoid reinventing the wheel for some parts.

Awesome!  Can you pm me and we can discuss?

What competitive advantage can you offer over storj

Storj is another project, that I believe has great potential, and isn't really a competitor.  While storj is more based on a dropbox, long term storage, our implementation is aimed to get a single file from point a to point b instantly.  There is no long term storage, and the file disappears after you downloaded it or after a set amount of time.

I've been following storj, and I am very excited for it Smiley
977  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What features would you like to see in opal? on: October 14, 2014, 04:43:38 AM
Looking for interests.  Already in pipeline is:

HTML wallet with encrypted messaging, and stealth addresses

Opal Marketplace

New UI

A function that destroys all the coins and kills the money grabbing developers of this shitcoin.

Let's call it a death switch.

I don't believe your idea that we are money grabbing is the most fair.  Compared to other coins like orthocoin that stole our code and make $10,000 in an ICO, we had no IPO, ICO, or premine.  I have spent much more money on this coin (not to mention time) than I have made from it.  That is not to mention the new features we add.

I realize that many people are hostile to altcoins (though why would you browse this board), but please substantiate your claims if you wish to group opal with other shitcoins
