961  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is your one memory related to Bitcoin that you want to forget? on: October 31, 2023, 03:03:48 AM
I had a terrible start with Bitcoin and if not that I knew how helpful Bitcoin can be right from the beginning, I wouldn't be close to Bitcoin ever again. When I started, it was difficult buying Bitcoin due to FX restrictions in my country, so we relied entirely on third parties which are individuals that had found their way around it. Scammers seized the opportunity to deal with us ruthlessly. I fell into the hands of scammers on many occasions, loosing various amounts of my hard-earned money. I'm just happy I did not quit then.

Fortunately,  I'm not struggling to forget the terrible experiences I had joining Bitcoin... I have already forgotten them and moved on. There is a saying that "whatever does not kill you, only make you stronger". Perhaps those experiences form the basis for my trust and confidence in Bitcoin.
962  Economy / Reputation / Re: "Bitcointalk" is part of my family living life & my "Baby birthday celebration" on: October 30, 2023, 08:22:38 PM
There was a time the central bank of my country made some unfavorable policies regarding Bitcoin... they were practically closing the accounts of anyone found to be dealing on Bitcoin. It was not easy but we stood our ground and continued using Binance and other exchanges since they were not registered in my country, so no legal huddle for them here. Fortunately, those dark days are over and the new government has cancelled those policies allowing us to freely use Bitcoin even though it is yet to become a legal tender.

It is always difficult to participate in Bitcoin activities in a place were Bitcoin is not generally accepted as a legal tender, but to every problem there is always a way out. No matter what the government do to criticize Bitcoin, is never a treath. That shouldn't make one not to buy and hold, because one dey Bitcoin adoption will be generally accepted world wild. By then you would have been in a better position to educate them on evisaging the inportant of Bitcoin from the beginning.
This reminds me of the dark days when the Central Bank of Nigeria directed all banks to close the accounts of people dealing on Bitcoin. It was not really easy being into Bitcoin and many people were actually scared. Even though they implemented this policy without any legal or logical justification, several people were actually affected. But like they say "where there is a will, there is a way" , this policy did not stop us from using Bitcoin... we just found a way around it.

I remember that Binance, Kucoin, NairaEx and many other exchanges were handy for Nigerians to use and Bitcoin penetration even grew during same period. Their attack on the Bitcoin community created some form of publicity and many people joined after making some inquiries about Bitcoin and how it could help in a failing economy like that of Nigeria. Well, it is a thing of joy that the present government have relaxed those ill-conceived policies, hence the latest explosive interest in Bitcoin by Nigerians.

The only difference between Bangladesh and Nigeria then is that the former placed a legal ban on Bitcoin while the later did not have any legal backing for attacking people using Bitcoin... I can just say it was an expression of fear of Bitcoin and also their way of discouraging people from getting involved.
963  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: LastPass hack - move your crypto assets to a more secure place right now! on: October 30, 2023, 07:03:53 PM
The first thing anyone venturing into Internet related business should learn is security. By security, the issue of centralized and decentralized platforms should be taken seriously.  This hack have just proven once again that centralized platforms are not safe no matter how one view it.

I honestly wonder how someone will save sensitive information in am online platform. Anything connected to the Internet is already at risk, how much sensitive information that are willingly given to a third party.

Well, their loss is a lesson to others and I hope they recover the funds.
964  Economy / Speculation / Re: This propfirm looks set to become top 1 on: October 30, 2023, 06:56:49 PM
I don't know if this is the right place for this topic as I'm struggling to wrap my head around it.

Anyways, are you aware of the issue with MFF? They were reported to be a ponzi scheme thereby leaving many thinking that other propfirms are just like that.  That issue sends a very bad signal about propfirms. I learnt they have a pending legal case which I feel the outcome will determine the fate of the other propfirms. Nevertheless,  FTMO have been in the business for long and have earned a good reputation.
965  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin about to close at the highest price in 78 weeks! Looking strong!💪 on: October 30, 2023, 04:07:42 PM
Thats a great news btw. I think everyone must have loaded their bags already for the bull run. I can sense no one will sold their bags until halving days and few days after that.
Many people including me is applying the DCA method so the accumulation is a continuous process. Bitcoin have been so nice by presenting us with many opportunities to buy.

We'll see. The sentiment is definitely bullish. I think that it's starting unless something terrible happens.
Thats common to have terrible things, war, viruses, political conflict but the good part there is crypto hasnt been much affected unless its really bothering financial crisis.
I do not actually see any terrible thing that could happen imminently. Maybe the postponement of the Bitcoin ETF approval. This might actually cause some declines but since we already have the Bitcoin halving on the pipeline, huge declines may not be experienced. Interesting times are ahead for Bitcoin and it can only get better.Anyone still doubting should check recent market behaviors.

966  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is health and health is Bitcoin. on: October 30, 2023, 03:56:25 PM
their is something that is paramount for Bitcoin investment, it can to my knowledge that health is more of important than any investment, before you invite you have to treat yourself very properly, their is some people who prefer investment first before health. Do you know that when you are not healthy you will not be able to read and understand what you read.

I have being unhealthy for a while but to read and make a research of coin I should invest , but due to health issues I could not make research.

in summary without a good health you will not think out of good project to invest. so without a proper health I don't think Bitcoin investment can be actualize.
Anyone who ignores his health because he want to make investment is somehow saving the money for his burial! It is as simple as that. Before investing in Bitcoin or any other asset, you need to ensure your health is well taken care of so that you will be alive to enjoy the fruits of the investment.

There is a tendency for a lot of people think that there are somethings more important than life. This is a major error because like they say, every other thing have duplicate but "life do not have duplicate". Every other thing depends on it. By the way, if one invest in Bitcoin without first taking care of his health, it can get to a critical point where he has to sell even at a loss to be able to attend to his health that might have deteriorated.

In summary, investment is good but priority places health over everything.
967  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: October 30, 2023, 03:14:45 PM
That is the point of the problem, sometimes we are not unwilling to allocate our income every monht in a large percentage amount, but with the economic situation that still has to divide on other things that ultimately make us as minimal as possible to allocate it. That is not something wrong either, because there should be no compulsion that makes us ignore other needs, because if we do that it is something that is not wise either.
The most important thing when we do this is consistency, for me it doesn't matter when the percentage is more flexible, especially when our financial situation is up and down.
30% is a fairly large allocation because for me it is a very aggressive step in investing. However, as JJG said, those who do not have large expenses for their living are certainly a better choice to save themselves in their investment plans. Well, if they are able to survive by allocating 30% for up to 3 years, of course the achievements in BTC ownership will be quite large.

Apart from that, all the dependencies and unexpected expenses in life can also affect the level of allocation in investing each month. However, every plan has to be thought out properly beforehand to prevent chaos in their investment journey. Well, in my opinion, most of them are probably only able to allocate 10% to 15% of their income to invest.
The percentage depends entirely on the income level of the individual as there cannot be a general rule for determine the percentage of income to set aside for investment. For those gainfully employed using my country as a case study, living expenses is not more than 20% of the total income so someone can even allocate up to 50% of their income to Bitcoin and will not be affected in any way. unfortunately, not everyone have this kind of job or business. On the other hand, there are people that their total income do not even meet their basic needs, this makes it practically difficult making investment when basic needs have not been met. Finally, the average people can allocate as much as 10% of their income and still do well with other needs.

Different people with different appetite as far as investment is concern and what governs the general approach is the target. If you target to accumulate a certain quantity of Bitcoin in like five years, it becomes easy to calculate your income and how much you can set aside to buy through the DCA method or any other method that seems convenient for you. So, the target, conviction and faith in Bitcoin are some of the things that determine the percentage of income to be allocated to Bitcoin provided basic needs as well as provision for emergencies have been made.

968  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin kwoledge is not complete without bitcoin investment on: October 30, 2023, 12:58:18 PM
OP you are right that knowledge in bitcoin is not complete without investing in bitcoin. If we want to do any work, first of all we need to gain knowledge about that work. Now I have acquired the knowledge to do business. For example, how to purchase goods? How to sell goods? I cannot do business easily if I am not shown practically in that regard. On the other hand, if we look at Bitcoin, we see the same phenomenon. On the other hand what is the use of gaining knowledge in Bitcoin if you don't invest in Bitcoin. Now if I have gained knowledge about Bitcoin in all aspects. For example, how to invest, how to save in wallet, etc. now how do I know that my knowledge about Bitcoin is complete? So I need to invest in Bitcoin to gain complete knowledge in Bitcoin. But beginners should invest small amounts. Of course everyone stay away from altcoins, choose Bitcoin.
I agree with you that one will not understand anything about bitcoin or fully master bitcoin technology without buying bitcoins and only learning. So I think to gain full idea about Bitcoin or to gain knowledge you need to invest in Bitcoin otherwise it is not possible to gain full knowledge about Bitcoin. And finally, I think you must ensure your own security before you can be considered a bitcoin bitcoinist.
This seems to me like a mixed up or something close to that. The technical aspect of Bitcoin is totally different from the investment aspect of Bitcoin and both require different approach as well as psychology. The technology behind Bitcoin is easier for those who are tech savvy or have committed so much time learning it while the investment aspect resonate more with those who understand how to create and sustain wealth. The later sees Bitcoin as money and pay little to no attention to the programs or code behind it.

Let me draw your attention to fiat payment systems where people use cards implanted with chips. More than 90% of the people using these cards do not know the tech behind it neither do they understand the electronic circuit configuration of these cards. The best they know about these cards is how to protect their pin, and other sensitive information as well as the physical cards. This is like the basic knowledge of Bitcoin... how to buy, secure and protect the wallets.

Like many people have already commented here, investment in Bitcoin does not require so much knowledge of Bitcoin... just the basic knowledge. Meanwhile, being too knowledgeable in Bitcoin without actually investing in Bitcoin make you somehow incomplete as you will not fully appreciate the practicality of the knowledge you have.
969  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou Boxing October 28 on: October 30, 2023, 10:33:33 AM
I must say that I am speechless. Either the fight was fake from the very beginning, or Fury was under something. Otherwise I cant explain why he ate most of what Ngannou gave him. If that is the real king, then he will be in huge troubles in a fight against Usyk. In that fight I did not see any technics from Fury. Or Ngannou tricked him, he has expected close range fight, while Francis shot a lot from the distance.

P.S. Such a shameful fight for Fury...
I am as surprised as you but I don't want to believe that the match was fixed. Ngannou did served Fury some hot punches.  Assuming it was UFC fight, with a kneel kick from Ngannou, Fury would have landed in ICU already.

Now there are speculations that Ngannou is planning a match with Anthony Joshua. Even though this has not been confirmed, if it ever happens,  I smell a rage filled match that will see Ngannou unleashing hell on Joshua in other to save his career.
970  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Online Casino Promotions Poll on: October 30, 2023, 10:22:46 AM
I like 100% welcome bonus. With this type of bonus, it is not that gambling site has gotten plenty money from me and give me bonus in a way they know that they are not losing but giving me bonus from what I have already lost to gamble with it again.

I am not the bonus type, I do not think of bonus at all, I just gamble and have the fun. I hardly gamble, and only during weekends.
I hardly make any withdrawal from welcome bonuses, and I am not a lone in that. I don't know if it is a psychological thing, but I tend to be too reckless with bonuses and easily waste them away without any form of caution. Therefore, my choice is loyalty programs.

With a loyalty program in place, there will always be incentives for joining and helping the online casino grow. It gives a sense of ownership because if the casino succeeds, the users will, so it is a win-win for everybody.
971  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can loneliness make one addicted to gambling on: October 30, 2023, 08:18:25 AM
You cannot heal from pain by venturing into gambling,  you will loose so much that you might be depressed. His wife leaving him has had a great effect on his mental health , his focus should be how to get his mental health back and not to complicate things. It is urgent for him to seek the services of a therapist.

Gambling requires a stable mind as much as it requires luck.  Financial decision making is something that should be made with a clear and undistracted mind. Hope he bounces back soon and become the best ge can be.

973  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin adoption in coming years, merchants will be left behind on: October 29, 2023, 05:13:33 PM
Well, it's understandable that merchants are concerned about Bitcoin's volatility and prefer fiat because of its (real or perceived) stability. Another reason might be that of practicality of legally doing business: if it's fiat in and fiat out on your part, and the crypto part is handled by someone else, you don't need to worry about how to declare income from purchases in cryptos, whether any additional taxes (capital gains, for example) need to be paid, etc.
I'm still not sure how people who legally accept Bitcoin payments deal with the tax side of it, and whether it's worth it.
There are still many grey areas to accepting Bitcoin by businesses. From what I have seen in my country, it is easier for holdlers of Bitcoin who also own businesses to accept Bitcoin than those who are not already into Bitcoin and need cashflows for their day-to-day businesses. At the centre of these challenges is the volatility like you rightly stated. Many businesses are not just comfortable with the volatility of Bitcoin as it distort their financial projections and balancing of books like in weekly or monthly basis.

The aspect of taxation is a kind of complex and various across various jurisdictions.
974  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: October 29, 2023, 04:57:21 PM
In April 21, 2001 Alf-Inge Haaland, the father of Erling Haaland, who was playing for Manchest City,  received one of the worst injuries of all time from Roy Keane of Manchester United.  As a matter of fact,  many people are of the opinion that this injury ended his football career.

Fast forward to today, his son Erling Haaland is now a superstar in Manchester City, the club from where his father retired. From recent matches between Manchester United and Manchester City,  it is looking like Erling Haaland have come to revenge his father's injury. We can see it in today's match where he has scored the two goals of the cities and still showing willingness to score more.

Do you think it is possible that Haaland is on a revenge mission against Manchester United?
975  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin kwoledge is not complete without bitcoin investment on: October 29, 2023, 02:35:08 PM
Practical knowledge of each subject is very necessary. If you don't have practical knowledge then your verbal knowledge will not be of much use. If everything was based on verbal knowledge or concepts, people would not be so focused on practical work.
This reminds me so much of my academics years as an Engjneer. We had theoretical classes and practical classes to put to practice the theories we learnt. The theory forms the basis and gives life to the practical, the later being what people actually see. This can be likened to knowledge of Bitcoin and investment in it. While the knowledge is the theory, investing and holding Bitcoin is the practical... both goes together. But the investment is what people actually see, it is like the result of the knowledge.

If you are so knowledgeable about Bitcoin yet you don't own Bitcoin, I doubt if there is anyone that will take you serious when discussing Bitcoin. Instead those who actually own Bitcoin will be treated as authority in that field and given listening ears when they speak.

As an investor invests and researches more about the investment he will gradually learn new things about the investment.
This is another aspect of this I just realised. There is a popular saying that "where your money is where your mind is", this means those who are invested in Bitcoin will take the knowledge aspect seriously than those who are not. By this I mean, one tend to seek for more knowledge in a business he has committed his finances to.

The knowledge of Bitcoin is a continuous one as many new things are still discovered on daily basis. From software wallets, hardware wallets, mining tech and others, the knowledge is evolving and those invested in Bitcoin will not want to be left behind. So, truly, investment in BItcoin is the real proof of the knowledge.
976  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / Re: Nigerian parents and spirituality. on: October 29, 2023, 12:40:15 PM
This matter tie wrapper my brother. The thing be say, religion don do a lot of damage in our psyche here. We tend to be more religious than even God that is why we put everything intop spirituality. See as the country keep face, God give us everything as a country yet we allow the worst people to rule us while we pray to God to come down from heaven and help us. It is a thing of religious colonialism.

No blame our parents, their own parents also pass the same thing to them... na chain reaction. Wetin you dey even expect from a people wey think say the poorer you are, the more righteous you become just because Bible talk say "it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a niddle than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God"

The one wey dey pain me be say no how you go to any spiritual house that they will not tell you there is a problem. It must be either your forefathers, your village people, your mama, uncles etc, there must be somebody after you. They will see all these problems yet they cannot offer solution.

The earlier we focus on God a lone and forget about all these plenty fakes around, the better for us.
977  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Free money wahala!! on: October 29, 2023, 10:15:39 AM
Me I know plenty people wey dey mine all these free token them but the thing no move me for body at all at all. Not only say majority of them na scam, they are pure waste of time. The people wey manage collect small money na like once in five years, the money self no reach anything.

If you consider the time you dey spend, the data you use, the memory space of your phone or laptop and the risk you dey exposure yourself to connecting your system to those networks or downloading and installing some of those softwares, it will become clear say na direct waste of time.

As me I no dey do am, I no fit advice anybody to put body for that thing.... e no worth am walahi talahi
978  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Spirituality and Betting - Do they Have any Connection? on: October 28, 2023, 02:21:21 PM
I don't think God involves himself with gambling. In the bible, Jesus Christ destroyed the template of gamblers and chased them out of synagogue.

However, I know there is a place of magic or vudo in gambling but the occurrence rate for winning is also not guaranteed. Maybe a misture of luck to the believe we have in the bet could make it work if we have done the most reasonable bet because you don't expect to bet on 20 soccer games on a slip and expect to win millions of dollars.
Funny enough, most of the things we do are gambling. Starting a business is gambling because you are not sure you will make profit. Getting married is gambling because you are not sure if it's gonna work and give you the peace and blessing of marriage. Going out of your house is gambling because you don't know what risk awaits you as you go. Life itself is gambling because you are not sure of anything. Investment in BItcoin, real estate, stock and anything is pure gambling. Each of these scenarios have their level of risks and measures in place to mitigate them.

When people hide under religion to condemn gambling, It actually makes me marvel at their level of ignorance. Gambling is way bigger and broader than many people actually think.
979  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Exchanges allowing fixed monthly investment in BItcoin on: October 27, 2023, 07:58:31 PM
What are some good exchanges allowing fixed monthly investment in BItcoin? I need options where my funds will be secure.
Seems you want to apply the DCA method but your means of achieving this seems to be risky. Like many have already advised here, centralized exchanges is not the right place to save your Bitcoin.

I understand that withdrawals can eat up significant portion of the investment if you have to be buying small amounts regularly and transferring to your private wallet. You can do it cumulatively to reduce the fees. You can deposit and buy then withdraw I two months interval or as you choose but never to save the coin in the CEX.

Alternatively, you can use any of the numerous decentralized exchanges.

Once again, never save your funds where you do not control the provate key
