I found 25x25 cm at 1 mm thickness for 22 euro. It turns out there are different grades of titanium, I guess they're different alloys with different characteristics.

Yeah and depending on the application you can choose your desired grade. Take a look at this page: https://www.titaniumprocessingcenter.com/tips-choose-right-titanium-grade/

There is only one way out - to combine solutions for different conditions. That is, select the metal that will be most resistant to the conditions you expect. If you are afraid of a fire that could harm your plate, then it is better to choose a stainless steel type that has the best fire resistance. If there is no threat of ignition, then you can limit yourself to aluminum, but you should take into account the fact that aluminum is susceptible to alkalis, which dissolve the oxide (protective) film on the surface of the aluminum. For example, alkali may be present in the soil and therefore, it is a bad place to store an aluminum plate. Or you will have to think about a way to protect this metal with additional means (paint or other protective coating).

And even better - diversification: several plates from different types of metal. Paranoid people (who believe that the more backups there are, the higher the chances that one of them will be found by strangers.) can hide them all in one place.

The density of copper is 2.5-3 units on the Mohs scale, and stainless steel is 4.5, and here you are right in saying that stainless steel is more difficult to process. But you weren’t going to do this manually, right? Now it is not a problem to find a power tool for these purposes that will allow you to easily interact even with titanium.

Very helpful post, thanks. No I wasn't gonna do it manually, but I don't have super efficient hardware as well. I only have the basic tools (hammer etc).

To be absolutely honest with you, I personally choose paper (for fast back-up) and metal for durable back-up. So I back up my wallets twice (paper & metal).
963  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [100 dots] seed phrase backup on: September 26, 2023, 03:32:25 PM
Better than aluminum, worse than stainless steel. Copper's melting point, reactivity, and durability, all lie between the relevant numbers for aluminum and stainless steel.
Here's a copper product which Lopp tested: https://jlopp.github.io/metal-bitcoin-storage-reviews/reviews/safe-seed/
As you can see, it does show far more damage than a stainless steel product, but the data was still readable. Although that might not be the case depending on how you stamp/engrave/whatever your data, though.

See Securing Your Seed Phrase with Washers, and CTRL-F "copper". I can imagine it looks quite nice to have 100 dots in copper.

LoyceV, yeah it will look nice, but considering o_e_l_e_o's comment, I will stick with my stainless steel. Btw, I have edited the picture to look nicer  Tongue But still I only paid 20 euros for this whole setup.

964  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [100 dots] seed phrase backup on: September 26, 2023, 01:32:38 PM
If price is no object, then go for titanium.

You can find plenty of titanium nowadays. Just buy an iPhone and get the titanium for your seed backup. It's going to give the iPhones a reason to exist.  Tongue (Feel free to NOT comment, I just don't like iPhones a lot)

Do you guys have any idea in regards to copper? I found some washers made of copper and I thought, why not give it a try? It is more easy to carve than stainless steel.

In my opinion,  if you really want to learn, just go straight to this book
https://github.com/bitcoinbook/bitcoinbook
Mastering Bitcoin 2nd Edition - Programming the Open Blockchain
This is the best bitcoin book around. Antonopoulos is an amazing writer and speaker. You can also take a look at his YouTube channel
https://m.youtube.com/user/aantonop

Mastering Bitcoin 2nd Edition - Programming the Open Blockchain
At Antonopoulos' Youtube channel, we can use his playlist to filter his videos.
Bitcoin for Beginners is one of his playlists and it is a good resource to start.
Awesome Bitcoin is another good one https://github.com/igorbarinov/awesome-bitcoin
From Bitcoin Developer List, we can explore their Bitcoin developments with many helpful websites and tools, open source code on Github.

I liked "Mastering Bitcoin" so much that I ordered it in physical copy. It's an incredible book. Good recommendations guys.

To the OP, I need to give a more general advice since all the posts above are more specific. Bitcoin is a complex subject, as it combines Mathematics, Cryptography, Finance, Computer Science etc. Therefore, you need to remember 2 things:
1. baby steps. Learn little by little and avoid sprinting. Just find a pace that suits you and try to learn in-depth.
2. beware of bad advices. In general, if something looks suspicious to you, make sure to avoid it, or ask here. Never share ANY info if you are not sure. If you are anxious about something, take deep breaths and ask here.

Is it only me that find it extremely difficult to find a nice, clean, proper-sized cut piece of metal?
Any decent hardware store should either have something in stock, or be able to order/cut something to your specifications. I prefer to use a local store, but even the generic big brand stores here will have something suitable: https://www.lowes.com/search?searchTerm=metal+plate

Don't know where you live, but I would assume most people would have a store somewhere in their local area which could provide a suitably sized piece of stainless steel. And if not, then I guess you could order one of the proprietary devices: https://jlopp.github.io/metal-bitcoin-storage-reviews/

Well it's not so easy here. But thanks. I was mainly just expressing a difficulty I have, rather than actually asking. But I appreciate the answer!

In regards to Jlopp's reviews, I have been thinking about buying this one: https://jlopp.github.io/metal-bitcoin-storage-reviews/reviews/cryptonumeris-plate-s/ since I have the metal letters already.

For the time being, I have created a custom backup with the washers (I 've seen it a lot in this forum). Looks good, but kind of difficult to read.

Is it only me that find it extremely difficult to find a nice, clean, proper-sized cut piece of metal?

I want to test this idea, as my secondary backup method for my single sig wallet.

If this works properly, I would also try to generate a similar pattern for my passphrase. Only problem is that I would need to add symbols, numbers and both capital and small letters. I will think about it and I will let you know.

But not all are scams, anyone who says ETH is a scam is ignorant. If it is a scam and it can bring x100, x1000 profit then I still prefer to let it scam me.
Yes.. ethereum is a scam that has been producing a lot of profits, so far... I am not going to argue about it or whether I am ignorant or not because I don't give that many shits if you want to invest in that smoke and mirror and ever changing nothing burger that merely is composed of a lot of gobbledy-gook convolution.  Good luck if you believe it is any kind of meaningful long term investment that helps you to understand the world - including understanding bitcoin better.. whether you own any bitcoin or not as compared with ethereum.. that's surely is your choice.
If someone has had a negative experience with Ethereum or if it doesn't align with their specific goals or may not fall under the required criteria, it doesn't necessarily mean they should categorically dismiss it. Just as you mentioned, Ethereum is a scam. Ethereum remains a crucial part of the cryptocurrency ecosystem and is widely used for various purposes, including investment, etc.
Categorizing Ethereum as a scam would indeed be inaccurate, given its substantial role and established reputation in the world of cryptocurrencies. It's important to assess each cryptocurrency individually, considering its unique features, use cases, and potential, rather than making blanket judgments.

Hi man. I like the way you approach this subject, but I agree with JayJuanGee. I have posted some very specific arguments here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5467201.msg62891410#msg62891410) in regards to why I believe Ethereum to be a scam. I 'd be glad to hear your thoughts, I may learn something. Just like everyone else's too.

Friends, I see that many of you have not yet tested the Mixer... which, frankly, upsets me a little.

Thanks for the payment. I want to assure everyone that until now, everything works smoothly. I have sent a payment to the mixer and I am waiting to receive the mixed UTXO. The process is super easy.

Edit:
Just received some UTXOs. Super easy process.
972  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Unfortunate incident over bitcoin dispute. on: September 25, 2023, 11:24:54 AM
A husband turn violent when losing his money on bitcoin investment. It result to heavy argument between husband and wife lead to unfortunate shooting incident to his wife

Lesson for investors that never put any amount on investments offer which they are not sure and avoid any unnecessary argument especially if you are frustrated so that we will not experience the same faith with them. And never do immediate decisions when you are angry since things go worst and you will do something that you regret later.

Read the full article publish by cryptopotato Husband lost 700,00 Baht shoot his wife under dispute

This is unbelievable. However, we must not! assume that it is something that can happen every day. I mean I don't really agree with the lesson you post. But the main idea behind it is correct.
973  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bad or good idea on: September 25, 2023, 10:17:46 AM
Well it doesn't matter in the near future if they go up in price a bit right? whether it will be used for mining or gaming I'm just hoping they will go up in price so i could profit a little

Well the answer is "it depends". Obviously people will buy a GPU from you, as long as it is in good condition (or even in perfect condition, since I assume you will not use them). But, you must of course sell them less than the price you can find in stores or online.

The price of hardware will go up if the supply is not enough. The whole China-Taiwan situation has caused a decrease in supply. Please inform yourself through valid websites, since I have the general idea, but I don't want to misguide you.

Regarding Bitcoin
Since you posted in the Bitcoin mining section,  it is true that GPUs are not profitable anymore. In order to make money you have to generate coins using ASIC miners which are specifically designed for this purpose. Therefore, I believe you will not be able to sell them to people who want to mine. Take a look into other coins / chains though, because there may be some other coins, where the difficulty may be much less than Bitcoin's and therefore, GPUs could be profitable. Perhaps I am wrong, but I would look into it.
974  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bad or good idea on: September 25, 2023, 09:59:47 AM
Hey guys I know GPU Mining is dead and since then I'm investing what ever I make into GPU since their cheap now for example 3060 ti/ 3070 for $170

Would you think in the long term they will at least 2x their current price or keep going down? I'm having faith in the next bull run that they will go up in price and I could sell them for a profit

Tell me your expectation and strategy

Hi. Indeed GPU mining is dead. Do you plan to sell them to people who want to mine? Or sell them for other purpose, like gaming etc?
975  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin merch recommendations on: September 25, 2023, 08:53:16 AM
I know it’s not highly recommended to advertise yourself as a HODLer but I’m interested in getting a cool BTC flat rim. Does anyone have any recommendations on merch stores that are highly reputable/support the ecosystem as well? Thanks!

Hi, the stores mentioned above are indeed reputable. Don't you think this thread should be opened in another board though?
976  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Are blockchain explorer threat to the privacy ? on: September 24, 2023, 09:11:26 AM
If you want privacy, run your own node. From there, you can either run your own blockchain explorer service, you can run your own Electrum server, or you can even just use a wallet such as Sparrow which links directly to your node with no further software required. If you aren't running your own node, you are relying on a third party, and that third party can compromise your privacy.

This is the only way to maintain high privacy. I totally agree.

As a sidenote, I think but may be wrong, that Sparrow doesn't allow the user to watch-only specific addresses but only xpubs. That's why I suggested Sentinel. Electrum also allows that if I am correct. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong. Because in fact I want to also keep track of some addresses. So I am particularly interested to know whether I can do it with Sparrow which is my no.1 wallet software. For now, I run dojo server and I have connected Sentinel to it.

Finally, as you said, the easiest way to be private would be to run bitcoin core and then connect sparrow to bitcoin core. This doesn't even require an electrum server.
977  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Are blockchain explorer threat to the privacy ? on: September 23, 2023, 08:57:14 PM
If you want to check the balance of 50 addresses privately, then just create a watch-only wallet in Electrum and import them there. Connect to your own node obviously, it will take a minute or two to synchronize.

I am surprised nobody suggested this before. Just run your own node and your mempool service upon your node (as I said before). Otherwise do what BlackHatCoiner said above. To add to his suggestion, you can also install Sentinel on your phone and connect it to a dojo node. It's slightly more complicated but it's a super clean way to monitor addresses and xpubs. Sentinel is a watch-only wallet made by the same team that develops samourai wallet.
978  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It is only Bitcoin and nothing else on: September 23, 2023, 06:17:25 PM

But not all are scams, anyone who says ETH is a scam is ignorant. If it is a scam and it can bring x100, x1000 profit then I still prefer to let it scam me. We are here to make a profit so if you have an opportunity don't miss it, altcoins have many risks but also many opportunities. We are not here to prove who is right and who is wrong, if we are right but don't get the money then what do we have?

Ethereum started with 70% of coins premined and pre-assigned to various wallets.

Ethereum has a creator, Vitalik Buterin, meaning it's a security. Not a commodity.

Ethereums supply is infinite, meaning it's no scarce at all.

Ethereum moved to PoS where the most rich has higher authority. We already have this system though. We just call it central banks.

Ethereum is programmable and multiple NFTs and tokens were created and then abandonned, leading people to poverty.

I am not ignorant. I just hate it. But of course we live in "free" economies and everyone is allowed to buy anything they want.

Finally, perhaps the word scam isn't proper. But it is the mother of many scams. That's all.
979  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It is only Bitcoin and nothing else on: September 22, 2023, 02:22:02 PM
If you already know altcoins are scams, why do you join them and blame them for being scams when you lose?

For me, everything has risk, if you have the courage to invest, you must take responsibility for your decisions, don't blame altcoins or anyone else because no one forced us to invest in them. By the way, I don't care if ETH is a scam or not, but I know that it has also brought a lot of profits to many investors, its ROI is not inferior to bitcoin.

If you mean me, personally, I must say 3 things.

1. I bought ETH because I was greedy. I made some money, as I said, then got out. So I don't call them scams because I lost money, but because, especially when NFTs came around, people created literally garbage and sold it for HUGE money.

2. ETH moved to PoS. Since this change happened, Ethereum is a different Blockchain that it used to be when I bought ETH. I don't trust / I hate all PoS blockchains. In fact I only trust and believe in PoW.

3. I don't see bitcoin as an investment, but as an opportunity to change the world order and to achieve a financial world which will be more liberal, without central banks and authorities.

Those 3 arguments are exactly the reason why I sold ETH (having gains) and went to Bitcoin only.
980  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It is only Bitcoin and nothing else on: September 22, 2023, 12:34:43 PM
It's clear how many people don't understand Altcoins, Luna crashed when the bull market is almost over, I am surprised that many people still have their Luna bags when the coins already reach a new all time high, the way you are going to play your games with Altcoins is different from that of Bitcoin, there are money to be made from both sides but with Altcoins we need to be more cautious, because Altcoins are not stable like Bitcoin.

It's peoples fault if they lose money with Luna, because there was enough time to have take their profits, Luna is a scam but it made a huge ROI, but of course, people are too greedy to take profits.

Also, why would anyone put all his or her life savings into Luna coin? If they have shared that into five different projects, Luna will be the only loss they had, Bitcoin is the best and safest risk for those who aren't good with Altcoins investment but I can't take my eye off the money that Altcoins have to offer,

In my opinion, all PoS altcoins are scams. I am kind of sceptical when it comes to new types of "assets". I don't think any them are assets. We will soon face an ugly situation where people buying all those coins will eventually get scammed or they will lose a lot of money. (YES! ETHEREUM too).
