I do the same, but instead I buy a new HDD every few years and back it up to the new one. I suppose it works out about $10 per year. I do have some pretty ancient HDDs, one's about 17 years old and it's fine, but I wouldn't be trusting precious stuff to just one especially when storage is so cheap and easily transferred. You can clone the whole thing in less than an hour or two.
Ya, I already have a 3TB HDD but there's just everything on it. I'm looking for something where I can completely rely on it got extremely important file etc.

You don't seem to see many external SSDs for sale, let alone used ones. I'd say that reliability vs an HDD is moot. And external disks tend to lead easier lives in general than internal ones. When you throw in that fact that a 1tb HDD is about 1/6th of the cost of the equivalent SSD it would sway me towards old school.
Would you be using it for the long term parking of data or would you constantly be writing new data to it? Either way I wouldn't be betting my data on something used.
I'm looking for something that will last 'forever' (at least half of my lifetime) and can store a lot of pictures, videos etc. Mostly personal things so yes I'd say I'll always be adding to it but never removing everything and writing back and forth. I'd have to assume I won't be buying something used because it's impossible to find when looking to purchase with Bitcoins so I'd end up paying the same price as new anyways.

The economy collapses like in 2008? How would BTC be affected? Would its price go to the moon?
EDIT: My opinion: I guess that gold, silver, other precious metals and BTC will rise.
People are really obsessed with precious metals on this forum. I don't understand it at all. Have you ever heard of a bond? T-bill? Like... anything other than precious metals? These are way safer investments than precious metals (depending on where you're buying the bond from of course). Will they rise? Maybe a little but anyone that knows what they'd doing will look for better safe haven investments. Bitcoin is another (even more) riskier option. It's best to spread out your investment over many different sectors of the market.

i think your thread title is a little bit mis leading. that should be " im scam in bitcointalk" because you are pertaining that bitcointalk scam you and not gonna happen because this is forum. the account you pertaining is abviously malicious for scamming. so why did you trust easily on him. you must think smart and decision carefully OP. nothing to blame. many user give a negative feedback and warning on that thread. im not scam. i want to know who is him? buy name itself in his acct. just search him social media like facebook or twitter. maybe you will find him there. but i think his stole other person identity. thats what hacker always do. just give negative feedback. you didnt lose any money on him. this will serve a lesson for you OP Both of your titles are horrible broken English that doesn't actually say what you're trying to. The title should be 'I was scammed by userXXX then actually write some details about it. Show some proof.

I had been looking on Newegg but they seem to be pretty expensive. I guess I'll most likely end up buying one from them but probably only a 500GB or 750GB SSD. Anyone know of another website that has cheaper prices?

I just checked my bank statement. They stole logins to my paypal account and tried to order computer from Cyberpower for almost $9000. I was lucky that I checked my online today. That already looks like a serious crime. I sent email to Cyberpower to cancel it. I hope the left their shipping address. I guess I should report to the police about it.
Reinstall your computer immediately, you probably have a virus infection. You need to contact PayPal and state that the transaction was unauthorised, they can investigate it for you. Yes, looks like it still has the virus. AVG antivirus and Spy Hunter find Antivirus Blocking Rules blocking task manager. Antivirus doesn't help. Virus always comes back after I restart the computer. They even logged in to my bank account and left additional phone number and email address along with my info. I guess they did it for easier access to my bank information. On Cyberpower web site I found the ir order details with the shipping address what they left. 932 N State Street STE 2 #87673 Orem, UT 84057 I changed all my passwords. Should I go to my local police station to report it ? Of course you should! Add on to the report that they stole your bitcoins which are worth $X at the time they stole them. They most likely won't / can't do anything about that part but they'll definitely help with the fiat transactions that took place.

once you send a bitcoin transaction there is no way to get it back and bitcoins in any address need private key to access. You should have used block chain info wallet.
No. He shouldn't. What happens when blockchain.info steals 'loses' those coins? Again they'd at the mercy of some other company that just doesn't care. Go for a decentralized wallet. I prefer mycelium for Android. There are lots of other great options where you own your own private keys. No stupid 'usernames' or 'passwords' (unless you want to set up a password). Electrum is a good option if you use a pc.

What was once a peaceful thread has now been filled with personal attacks from both sides, insults, and off topic posts. Is there anyway I could get it switched to being self moderated?
Lock the thread, move it to archival, create a new one that's self-moderated?! Either that or you could continuously report the people posting off topic. Either way you'll just have to start a new thread or put a lot more effort into your current thread. It's too late to go back now!

What a cool and generous offer! I'd love to have some more exposure to my Ubuntu Live USBs that I have for sale here. If you're willing to take me on let me know and I'll make an avatar for you to wear. I really can't afford to run a signature campaign for this very small hobby of mine.

Testers will be rewarded as usual! P.S. We made similar tests before, but in other locations.
I can vouch for that. I was definitely paid well for testing Canadian payment methods. I'd suggest someone scoop this up ASAP or you'll regret it! I would if I was Romanian.

I'm looking for an SSD and they're pretty expensive compared to an external hard drive (for obvious reasons. No moving parts. Way more reliable).
I'm looking for an external SSD and was hoping to buy a used one for a better price. I'm thinking 1TB would be more than enough, maybe even half that size. What website would you suggest and is it safe to buy used? As in, if I'm using it for 'Bitcoin stuff' (I know, very specific) am I safe to format it and we're good to go or should I take other precautions as well?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I'm looking to purchase with Bitcoins (just in case there was any confusion).
Edit2: Shipping within/to Canada

Any way to prevent loss of posts because of this 502 errors?
It is kind of annoying when it happen
used to copy the text before sending it or in my phone i used to connect with uc browser which you can recover the text when you press the back button but it is still a little buggy That or you can just hit preview and it's saved in 'draft' for 7 days (draft is right under preview. Go ahead, give it a try!) if you're writing up a good in-depth post just make sure you hit preview and you're good to go.
I get these 502 errors at least once a week and I find that after a few refreshes it's usually resolved. Once in a blue moon it really affects me and I can't do anything at all on bitcointalk for a few hours. That hasn't happened in months and months though.

We've got to be very precise. The judge didn't say BTC wasn't money, but that it isn't the equivalent of money, and that AML regulations aren't applicable to this particular case.
Well at least he got off on a technicality! I'm sure there are others that got 'busted' for the haynes crime of selling bitcoins and didn't get off so easy. There have been a lot of cases of well known users on this forum. Hopefully this helps everyone in the future.

I was talking to 98789 about getting a different number for verification because it doesn't work for me. Could you confirm that ypu'll be providing another number for me to test with? Thanks

But guitarplinker how are you going to know if gambling 'is fix my life?' Lol! I don't think I've ever posted on these garbage threads but maybe most a few more examples so I can make sure. I'm assuming most threads in gambling that have nothing to do with anything and a lot in general discussion are the threads you're talking about.

I'm interested! I've done testing for websites in the past and I'm great at nit-picking all of the little details. I also look for grammatical errors while poking around. Sending a PM now.

Ah I'd say somewhere between 5 and 10%. I'm just earing Bitcoins on the side so it's not adding up to a huge amount (as of yet ). Mostly what I invest in Bitcoin is time and effort.

I never did get my candle! I'll keep this thread opened until I do. Just to be clear it HAS to ship to Canada and you HAVE to check how much that will cost! $45 to ship it won't ever be worth it to me.

I have some 64 bit Ubuntu 16.04 versions in stock. I got some really tiny USBs (great for cheap shipping).
Post or PM if you're interested! Pics will be updated ASAP!
