This is just pure speculation....
But could it be possible that the sell out down to 105 on BTCe could possibly be a mind game with the intent to remind all the speculative traders to put more orders in to buy coins? The net effect being that there will be a lot more buy orders on the books because of this, thus increasing confidence on the buy side of the order book and potentially creating price pressure to make the price go up?

For example, personally I trade very little, I keep my coin off the exchanges unless I am doing a bit of buying here and there,  but I haven't ever really put in a bunch of wishful thinking low buy orders, now I am considering it! Would a lot more buy orders on the order book even at lower / ridiculous levels raise the price of bitcoins?

it was probably a trader that stayed up all night to read the gox update, when it finally came in, he thought this is it the protocol is broken, and sold in a panic thinking the price would not bounce back because "this is the end of bitcoin"

and yes traders should have low ball orders for panic sells like this

probably wouldn't do much for the price, but it will mean cashing in on retarted panic sells

So WTF, a market order dropping btc-e to 100 is real?

I've been saved a fiew time by market orders when I sell 1 decimal too low, but this looks crazy.

Also what's up with Hong Kong, that volume can't be real?
how much volume HK got?

Non-technical Explanation:
A bug in the bitcoin software makes it possible for someone to use the Bitcoin network to alter transaction details to make it seem like a sending of bitcoins to a bitcoin wallet did not occur when in fact it did occur. Since the transaction appears as if it has not proceeded correctly, the bitcoins may be resent. MtGox is working with the Bitcoin core development team and others to mitigate this issue.

the plot thickens considerably

If the price at Coinbase is higher than that of other exchanges, people should flock there to sell, but no one would want to buy from them at those prices.

So Coinbase must be collecting lots of bitcoins and depleting their dollar reserves. And they cannot sell those bitcoins now without a substantial loss. This is what MtGOX was doing until a couple of days ago. (Perhaps Coinbese is trying to fill the market niche that MtGOX abandoned?  Grin)

Perhaps they believe that the prices will rebound to more than 730 soon?

Is there a general shortage of money in the other exchanges, that might be cured when the banks open today?

What is preventing arbitrage from working (buy cheap coins at other exchanges, sell them to Coinbase for 30%+ profit)?  We knew why in the case of MtGOX, but that explanation does not apply to Coinbase, does it?

coin base is 4.3% higher
9632  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 10, 2014, 02:19:49 AM
Has anyone thought that maybe the high cost of Bitcoin at MtGOX was simply an indication of the true value of Bitcoin?

Is it possible that the price of Bitcoin is being artificially depressed to allow some of the bigger players who came into the market late a chance to get some cheap coin?

Kind of like the very very very very last train to a place that no one will be able to get on again for a long while?

na mtgox was higher because it was hard to get $ out...

but yes, many are using this bear market to accumulate cheap coins, they will let it fall as low as they can and let ask depth build as much as possible.

bid depth is purposefully underplayed, and price is allowed to slide in order to make hodler capitulate.

We were repeatedly hacked, but we felt it was necessary for mtgox to keep trading despite being insolvent, not to taint bitcoin's image. However now that everyone has decided to withdraw all there bitcoin all at once, it is clear we can no longer pretend everything is fine. all the coins are gone, our USD reveses are severely depleted, we are sorry for the inconvenience this may cause.

my sister says "the price dropping is depressing, if it drops any lower i'm selling everything" the bottom is real fucking close guys, if not already here  Grin

If gox actually does start releasing coins on Monday then the snapback will be monumental.
Of course, they might have taken the weekend off and will start Monday working on their software instead.

they never said the problem would necessarily be solved monday they simply promised an update on monday.
next week will be seriously interesting.
will mtgox pull thought, will they implode? if they implode, where did everyones funds go to? ( something tells me implosion is never gonna happen... )
if price goes lower than 500$ does it even matter? that would be seriously CCMF.

I dont know whats going to happen next week, and frankly i don't care, i'm buying, all i care about is supporting an idea. the idea that in the future the poeple will take back the power of money, no more inflation, no more out of control "print and spend", no more completely out of whack stock market due to massive FED manipulation. only truth, backed-up on the blockchain for all to see. this idea is about freedom from financial corruption, this idea is worth dying for, what's a few dollar worth, NOT A DAMN THING.
