9782  Economy / Speculation / Re: Predict the bitcoin price before 2018 starts on: December 16, 2017, 07:56:46 PM
I'll take a walk on possible action forthcoming, we have Xmas most obviously but this is only celebrated in some countries and China is a large part of crypto so its of debatable significance.    However over xmas in normal markets, we usually see lighter volume which can cause unusual activity.

On that basis the next top could be $19,880 which is a Fibonacci level related to the late November selloff I think.   My chart doesnt quite make it clear but I think its 423% of the previous top to that pullback.  Obviously we have moved on but that action at the time had volume and news of note which gives it possible echo in present pricing.   This is how markets move sometimes, we are rising strongly for the moment so I think is feasible as a pullback area or boundary to action.

To answer OP I believe this is feasible scenario that we reach near 20k but hover in between that and the previous major marker which was $15,713 by my estimates.    Volume is important but with varied exchanges and so not apparent in their reporting we can only estimate price levels of most importance to the global market in each of its own national currencies.
9783  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Hosting IOTA with cpu while mining with GPU on: December 16, 2017, 12:40:13 PM
Yes perfectly feasible so long as the CPU is not especially weak, anything modern will be fine.   I use a Haswell Xeon chip which was cheap because its locked to stock clocks, however its also 70w TDP also.   8 cores and 16 threads means I can mine XMR at the same time as any other function required.

I've not heard of IOTA being especially intensive but sounds feasible, so long as there is no chokepoints in any part of the system.
9784  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Any word on amd vega hash rates? on: December 16, 2017, 12:33:45 PM
I watched a few reviews but all the stock makes are quite similar apart from warranty conditions.   XFX Ive always rated as well made, I have a card of theres which is still solid after about 8 or 9 years of use.

Powercolor Ive heard rates as good clocks but not to a massive extent just opinions by some.   The AIB cards still havent made enough difference yet and as a miner the price isnt cheaper so theres no real advantage.  The only positive over stocks for sure is to either self mod it with a much bigger heatpipe setup or I think water cooling is the best Vega64 card.   The AMD design or any others will help especially if not undervolted, but most are UV.
Personally I dont mind the fans but the clocks achievable are probably slightly better with water, thats the only obvious advantage from more expensive cards so far.

At some point in the future I expect AMD will release an updated revision to the Vega64.   Some say it will be 12nm instead of 14nm. It'll probably be similar to the Rx480 to Rx580 maybe it will run a bit cooler hopefully.
9785  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ANN [ICO] 💪 HERO | 🔥 2Million+ USD raised 🔥| ICO closed! on: December 16, 2017, 12:19:35 PM
Actually, EtherDelta did us a favor by getting us rid of those who got tokens through bounty. Most of the people who participate in bounty, don't care for long-term and get rid of the coins fast. Now we only have to wait for HERO getting listed on the official new exchange, which will be the first victory for HERO.

Let's speculate on the price at the new exchange, I'm guessing it could touch 3 to 5 cents in start.

That would be normal market action, weak hands must be tested before a greater price can be carried.   Liquidity is always a good thing so yep I concur Smiley   Price on a market doesnt reflect value perfectly, its speculative and some will sell no matter what.   Very common a low price has to be tested maybe a couple times before its evident that a positive trend is in place and traders buy instead of sell, seen that lots of times in different markets.

if u havent claimed your Bounty weeks ago, u are far to late, if i have claimed but not received write a mail to info@herocoin.io

I have been in communication about payment as per the original terms of the campaign since November and no settlement has been reached yet.  I will be representing a few of the people who were not paid due to changes after the campaign closed which were not communicated to participants.   I'm happy for bitok50 to get in contact with details so we as a group achieve some settlement of the original amounts owed.
The explanation I've received so far is that it was impossible to communicate, I have replied that it was as simple as a thread title change to alert participants to new terms required but no attempt to notify the campaign manager was made and information was not provided hence the failure to pay.  I have not yet received a reply to that, no doubt they are busy and I wish them every success and I'm sure the project is addressing a very valid growing market sector.  I'm confident as a group we will be able to achieve some compromise to resolve the matter to the satisfaction of all.
9787  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 15, 2017, 08:51:43 PM
^^ That is gigantic news or at least Im pretty sure it is.   So many sites are not dealing with BTC directly but using the services of Bitpay to interface their site.    I'll definitely be reading up to check on that one but I presume they are partly motivated by the failure of Bitcoin with this backlog and I do consider it a kind of soft failure, for user experience its not acceptable.  Whoever thinks 20 dollar fees is ok is not right with the world.  Most arent cruising at that altitude, its a stall speed situation imho.
9788  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you regret selling your BTCs? on: December 15, 2017, 08:44:15 PM
Theres an easy solution to regret and thats to realise you wont live forever so make the most of each day and maybe more practical is to only sell your BTC to invest into other things.    Dont spend it on junk because then you will regret as much the purchase was not worth it,  this is a shock to the system for most as modern society has become about spend spend spend and with BTC you should consider do I really need to because I might lose out.

The BTC I spent went onto things like a monitor, I was using a chunky old CRT screen for years and because everyone else is on a nice screen I was finding webpages were increasingly hard to read.  You dont realise it but they accommodate the average user setup in their web design and that is not an old CRT.

So I used to be a BTC miner, not tons but enough to buy a nicer widescreen LCD display which is so much finer then the old one and it let me carry on using the internet.  So it was a reasonable investment, in todays money that monitor was about $5,000 maybe.   Thats too bad but I cant regret having to use my funds sometimes and it was fairly essential.

Last year I sold 0.3 btc for a few hundred dollars.   Again to buy computer parts, kinda essential.    The main way I've sold BTC this year ( I held most till the summer) was to buy in some gold, this is a very reasonable hedge and parallel to crypto in not being part of the FIAT or QE system we are all stuck in.

Thats my main recommendation to people who find they sell BTC or feel they have to.   Hold a bit of gold as well because this has been used as a hedge for centuries and it will continue now, major exporting countries are currently buying in larger quantities then they have for decades previously.   I take that as a new paradigm as much as cryptocurrency has been, however right now its not as popular Im sure.
9789  Economy / Speculation / Re: HODL bitcoin? why and why not? on: December 15, 2017, 08:16:46 PM
Hold if you are too busy to pay attention to possible peaks but its also quite feasible to sell on near highs and buy into dips and still be within a bullish trend.   The reason not to hold is the gains from trading are quite alot more then just blind holding and the market is such that volatility does not make rebuying a rare occurance.  Its more a case of will you have the guts to buy into the low price when everone is fearful

It makes more sense to rebuy but some find themselves better off just looking away and not paying attention they are less likely to become fearful and miss out on gains.  I guess that makes sense but only with money you dont need ie. literally forget

My rough estimate for a sell off now would be $11,441   but appraise that at the time and usually there is time to buy on the return to a positive gain.    Right now I would not sell above $15,000 as this is a point of strength generally but its all open to interpretation.   This market is very liquid at centralised exchanges but I dont like how fees are so high preventing normal transfers between individual wallet holders.

Strength will always be in the longterm diversified network, thats the backbone the rest is flabby fat no wonder we wobble so much  Tongue
9790  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 15, 2017, 08:02:50 PM
I'm hoping for a huge correction this weekend. If I'm worth less maybe they'll just rob a bank like a normal person.

In capitalist America...bank robs you.

If USA was capitalist like it was previously those banks would return their assets to bond holders and creditors like a normal bankruptcy system has operated for hundreds of years.    Not heard of the mainstream to label it as much but 2008 was a bell toll for the fall of capitalism, not because banks make mistakes and fail but because the law was changed to no longer respect capitalism.

Just like the law formerly outlawed the activies of the Federal reserve in order to avoid the devaluation of the dollar like they celebrating doing now.   No part of QE has been reversed, the only reasonable conclusion is the experiment was a failure just like its failed in Japan.  So not much surprise then, its not capitalism its politics doesnt really matter on the label beyond that.    Nobody is willing to dispute as they are all mostly funded by government, obviously education is paid off by Federal debt.

Anyone in crypto knows dollar doesnt work or the mistakes of bitcoin would matter more, I fear too many mistakes are forgiven because it works anyway just like people ignore dollar failure.    Dollar is bailed out continually on the backs of tax payers but crypto has to be far more careful or it'll destroy itself.   Every economy destroys itself is one fatalistic conclusion

$15,713 shows a candle low a few times, 261% of the November end sell off top.   BTC appears to be quite capable of further gains.   A proper sell off point and return to norm for the year would 11,441   always good to have a target downside to rebuy considering theres always some news
9791  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What Is Your Worst Moment in Gambling? on: December 15, 2017, 07:52:29 PM
Worst bet I ever did was totally not my fault, it was a sports bet with 2 matches back to back.   In the first match the dominant team won easily without conceeding any points and the very next match the one I bet on immediately after that same team lost horribly.
Now I wouldnt mind but each match involved the same two teams in a tournament style points deal and somehow lost out completely.    Either they lost on purpose or there was no sense to it at all, I wouldnt mind but it was my biggest bet for a long time and I lost many weeks winnings from just that easy mistake Sad

Nothing is ever certain, dont bet 10% of your pot on just 1 match.  Expensive lesson
9792  Economy / Economics / Re: Is bitcoin now the strongest currency in the world? on: December 15, 2017, 05:59:43 PM
Strongest currency in the world is by Norway.   If you check the countrys assets, it is vast with a sovereign wealth fund built up over many years from off shore oil which is still growing.    The reason I rate them over other oil nations is they are an otherwise normally adjusted nation with a mature well equipped population within the EU and quite stable regardless of any alterations to world growth.   It could be the oil price is not so strong in future but this is a diverse economy and so very strong.

Though they trade with EU they are not tied to EURO which has problems with diversity of various nations under one interest rate.    So they operate their own currency and set their own rates, avoiding the problems Greece experienced by not being able to accommodate local variations in employment and exports.

This is likely the strongest currency in the world.   BTC relies very much on innovation and monetary velocity, it is an inverve to world reserve currencies with no backing of its own, its value is transient and reliant on convenience facilitated to participants in the world economy who otherwise would not be able to trade easily.  With such high fees recently I'm apprehensive about any strength.

9794  Economy / Economics / Re: panic selling on: December 15, 2017, 03:20:01 PM
Panic selling is just an act that is detrimental to itself. Due to the fact, bitcoin to this day is still rising, and still seems to continue to rise until the end of this month. Very pleasant price

I guess you are right, im still waiting for the dump of bitcoin so i can buy but i think this is impossible to happen for now, so im just focus now to altcoin that i can buy in low price.

I dont know about dump exactly but there are downswings to match the peaks in the BTC price.   Its quite a regular market in that way, the appreciation is rapid for sure but its not quite straight up.
So heres a chart and I've marked places of support and boundaries to its upwards climb.   If you imagine a kind of staircase at a more slight angle and the jagged up and down that staircase takes while still going upwards, this is how graphs while bullish allow you to buy in:

There is no certainity, but at points its worth more of a gamble then other times.     Some people can tell when its due to sell off but thats harder to do when the overall trend has been up for a while now, much safer to try for a regular buy after something of a pullback.
This graph is the last fortnight roughly
9795  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Any word on amd vega hash rates? on: December 15, 2017, 02:23:01 PM
I dont know how you got 1900h with only 925mhz on the memory.   GPU core sure doesnt matter as much but I find if I adjust memory speed at all it brings down the hash speed right away, I stay as close to 1105mhz as possible, anything below 1050mhz will definetly show.
I do think its possible to run the top speeds even at 900mv if the temps are all below 70c.   I use a cold air intake from a window, its winter now so its not hard when temps are 5c outside ?

The latest AMD driver release  allows swapping of config files apparently, saved defaults for various protocols sounds possible.  However they dont switch to compute priority for every type of hashing, havent fully tried yet

Any UK users have got this and using the AMD VEGA cards?

Mind sharing the price and source to get them, I've been trying really hard to get the RX 580 from past 3 months but no luck, any help from UK users would be much appreciated.

Hope I get some answers, thanks.

You are a bit late to the party.  The best deals was on release.   We are in transition now hence the lack of stock.   I suggest you look at overclockers.co.uk and join the forums and look out for deals, not that I know of any forthcoming like I said
9796  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BLK/BC) | PoS | No ICO on: December 15, 2017, 01:05:16 PM
I should probably already know this but is it possible to stake with blackhalo client same as I might stake with the Lore wallet currently.   Maybe I can just copy the index files across to speed up the synchronising as well.   I ask because I find I have to rescan alot to get mature coins on the Lore wallet, possibly that is the machines fault as it is old machine with only dual core and its running other things as well.

http://www.blackhalo.info/

Seems a great shame not to use the potential assets available.  Meanwhile Bitcoin is effectively throttling itself, theoretically if we transferred the same transaction volume to BLK then would it handle it ok ?   Obviously we should also have more active wallets at that time so maybe its impossible to say but Im interested in peoples estimates.   Capitalism is always competetive and I'm much more optimistic even if only in theory it can handle the workload because I do believe change is the only constant especially with such high monetary velocity, 2018 will not just be a repeat.
I'm still an eternal learner on these things but also the situation is dynamic, relying on price alone as an indication of success is a mistake imo and bitcoin will run into problems if they dont resolve that backlog amicably.  Speculative activity isnt enough to justify that fee cost

9797  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Cast XMR] high speed XMR/CryptoNight miner for RX Vega GPUs (2 KHash/s) on: December 15, 2017, 11:38:53 AM
How do Ardenalin drivers work if you use them on a setup that has rx570 rx 580 and Vega included?

Any expirience with that?
Dont update past the blockchain drivers which is 17.11.1    Only they give priority to compute functions and the others are for gaming, if the latest release somehow can switch between gaming and compute priority then great but Ive not seen this so far.
Here is AMD people interviewed on a video reviewing most of the Adrenalin features, they are all about UI pretty much for mainstream use: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjNPNMUeBY8&t=1497s

I've tried with memory clock near 1200mhz and it doesnt make up for the blockchain drivers advantage, but others might have made better progress.  Its only about 7.7% difference at best
9798  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: VEGA 64 mining FREE WISDOM on: December 15, 2017, 10:53:29 AM
6x vega 56 flashed with 64 bios running 43.7mh @ 867/1100 with 825/900mv using totall 1250w  for the whole system.

nice!!

current kWh cost for us here is $0,04 so our focus has been on max stable speeds rather than elec use

https://www.ssb.no/elkraftpris/
price is in Norwegian Kroner for household consumption

we are using these tests to solidify a larger plan involving a private mining farm with over 250 GPU's as a start and have come to an understanding with the local elec supplier to have less than $0,034kWh cost. Time will tell....

That is maybe a quarter electricity cost that I have, thats super low.   Norway has cheap energy why ?  I know they have oil but its usually hydro power local to the users that creates cheap power due to excessive rainfall perhaps or other local factors.

Buying Vega is still a very expensive way to enter mining but I believe Vega will be the premier card for another two years and still retain its value so it makes some sense.   The biggest wrong turn here is ETH is not the most profitable coin to mine, I think XMR runs fastest on Vega unless the power factor changes that.

The main reason to mine ETH would be to keep it not cash it out to BTC or USD.   ETH could possibly appreciate further from here as its breaking a downtrend, most would think BTC would rise faster.
A farm has a fast enough turnover to mine XMR and then buy ETH if they wanted, thats probably still cheaper to do.

Almost average 45mh for ETH mining sounds good though.   What power draw does gpu-z show  for comparison sake, I have 180w at 43.5mh, I think this could be improved but Im not running a big farm and its stable
9799  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: NiceHash hacked? on: December 15, 2017, 01:24:55 AM
I'd be interested if someone in the know did a round up of all the alternatives and obviously you are catering to people busy with other stuff so that kind of summary is ideal :p   I'm sure any sum up would get views, I post on a few forums slightly aligned to tech etc.    I just wanted to know if kryptex did cpu mining as well because I have an 8 core with 20mb cache and it used to do really well with zero lag so seems a waste not to have it tied to a screensaver type setup when otherwise idle.   They do but which of these is best at capturing the best rate, obviously solo mining on a fast coin can be best but also requires more management, maybe more market risk and hassle.
