Kleiman was in and out of hospital many times .. including times where 'satoshi' was healthily writing code and posts online, thus cant be the same person. kleiman was heavily interested in investigating and identifying people and was a government man.... I used "new wallet" in Electrum and I would like to transfer them to my new address (Electrum), transaction fee is 0.004849 BTC (10 dollars) "the fee for this transaction seems unusually high, proceed?".
Why?
You are not forced to pay a fee that high. If you enable manual fees, you can put in any amount. If you keep it in a range of 20-30b/satoshi it will be confirmed quickly. |

I am not an Electrum user, but the first question is about compatibility. I'm not sure Electrum will recognize the wallet.dat file. You may find it easier to install bitcoin CORE (QT is now called core) then send the coins to your Electrum address. As far as the address changing I think you are misunderstanding something. There is still money at your address: https://blockchain.info/address/1NGztBL4gna63pYgLBHJuhMCrV6YsqP3q9This is a public key and your wallet can make many of them. I suspect that your "changed" address was just created when you ran electrum for the first time. It may have just ignored the QT wallet file and created a new wallet in it's own format. Whatever you do DO NOT lose your "wallet.dat" file from QT. With that all can be fixed. Without it there is no hope. I would try installing CORE then spending to electrum. Right, but instead of sending the coins from Bitcoin Core to Electrum (and pay a fee), you can export the private key from Bitcoin Core and then import it to Electrum directly. |

One who panic about the price fall should never keep it long in the form of btc. Op should have converted it to fiat once after receiving it, because the price increase and decrease is not planned as well it happens on the go. Few gets profited and few gets the chance to sell low, which can be overcome by holding and selling when price increases as expected.
Yes, OP's main mistake was he was speculating with his paycheck thinking it would go higher. At that time, fan guys of BTC's were shouting for more up BTC/USD price...I was greedy obviously and lost enough. Hold and you'll be happy in a few years. |

Offline wallet ... offline ?!? You can not emit transactions with an offline thing (harware wallet are connected to internet to emit transaction ... script from an extension at minimal level). COLD Storage is a backup of a wallet ... not an offline thing. You NEED an online software (local or others) to use the COLD Storage wallet and emit transactions. "Cold storage in the context of Bitcoin refers to keeping a reserve of Bitcoins offline. This is often a necessary security precaution, especially dealing with large amounts of Bitcoin." @Kprawn Buying a second hand computer to create an offline address is not very secure. Start GPG4USB and create a new keypair with a strong password. Export your GPG private key and save the file on your USB 3. Start Bitcoin core and create a new wallet. Copy the public wallet address to a textfile and save it on your USB (or write it down, if you don't want your public address being digitalized). Encrypt the wallet within Bitcoin Core with another password. 4. Encrypt the ~/.bitcoin/wallet.dat file with your new GPG keypair and copy the GPG encrypted file to the USB stick. Check back, if you can decrypt both, Bitcoin wallet and GPG file. Always remember: If you later lose your wallet file and/or can't remember your passwords, you lose everything in that wallet. 5. Shutdown You can now send funds to the public address of your offline wallet. You better make tests with small amounts to make sure everything is working, before you lose everything. |

What should I do to secure my bitcoins?
First of all, remove all bitcoins possible from banks/exchanges/"hosted wallets". If you can't export your private keys, then you don't actually control the bitcoins. This is a good idea in general, but it's especially important in case of splits. If you're using a Bitcoin bank, then you will have no control over what happens to your coins. Quite possibly, the bank will end up stealing/losing one of the currencies that you should have access to, either through greed/malice or technical incompetence, and the currency they throw away might well be the only one that ends up having any long-term value.
I guess we'll see a mass withdrawal and a liquidation problem on all exchanges in the upcoming weeks. |
