981  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 13, 2014, 03:11:30 PM
It's Nxt week!  Grin

What a great news about Nxt! I have pushed some news to the crypto news sites. We do have to make all this great stuff visible to the press! Keep up the good work (and keep hodling!). Wink

I am tweeting like mad. It's Nxt client week!

I have registered startnxt.com (and startnxt.net) and would like to create a landing page! I am looking for a designer who will help me to create a simple, but sexy landing page for new users. We have a few clients (including the web client of wesleyh!), a few functions (aliases, AE, transparent forging), two forums and a few other nxt homepages with different onformationsets which needs to be introduced to new Nxters.

The homepages we currently have are not so userfreiendly and contain too much information for Avarage Joe. I want to have a 1-pager, where the user is guided through all the functions of Nxt when he is scrolling down. I don´t want to have too much information (nor too much text, I prefer graphics) on the page, but all the graphics should be clickable and should link to other sites where the user has access to more information (a link to http://info.nxtcrypto.org/ or to the wiki for example).

The focus needs to be on the graphics, not on the information, as this page would only work as a landing page from where the user can navigate to other pages where he can have access to more detailed infos.

I too have thought this is very important and have been considering registering new2nxt.com as the jump page.  If you can get this implemented in the next 2 weeks I would like to get it on biz cards to hand out at the Texas conference.

I'm doing this already with BitVenturer.  Cool

Nice, this on nxt.org will be really cool! Best possible domain

Battle of the domains?  Cheesy

Just got off the phone with the guy who is going to develop payment modules for Nxt.

He has found someone willing to host a dedicated server to check transactions for merchants and is now going to plan his module and the checking system.

The system will of course be open source. Merchants will have to register with the node to be able to query it and can then have an automated way to check if payments have been made.

The first module will be made for Wordpress as most people can easily set it up with woocommerce to start shops/services.

The next step will be to port it to all other major open source platforms.

We will probably be able to present the plan for review end of the weekend so you can all take pot shots at it.  Smiley

had some nxt for like 2 days, logged back in and now their gone into crypto mystery land? was there a bug, i doubt i got hacked i had a super duper 20 digit password  Tongue

I would guess you are on a fork/need to redownload the blockchain/need to get the new client.

Does the nxt still appear in the blockchain explorer?
985  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [NXT] Community nominations to the funding comittee on: February 13, 2014, 11:23:33 AM
So, we have the treasurers.

Have the committees already been decided?

Nope, not yet.
I have been nominated by a few guys so I am willing to step up. I have already spent 2 months on NXT and pioneered the marketing angle of NXT, so I'd fit on the marketing committee.
I have a ton of projects up my sleeves and can sympathize with great community members who are lacking payment for their efforts so I will be 100% fair in all ways.
There are several members that can verifiy this, I am just eager to get a committee going so that we can move NXT to the nxt level

I am right there with Uniqueorn, I can't wait to get this marketing committee together so we can get to work.

I have been nominated by a couple guys as well and look forward to the opportunity if I get a position on the committee. I am also part of a start up company that I can get involved with Nxt to amplify my efforts Smiley

It would seem like a good idea, knowing our voting track record, to start with getting this show on the road, so the committees can be formed and get working. Wink

Who will take the lead in this? UP?

By the way: the email I just got from DGEX about the Offspring client now mentions specifically that is is (for now) closed source.

I for one am glad we now have an extra client to choose from.

On each server, only the server admin will know the wallet address for that server, so we compartmentalize the financial risk.

How is that different than trusted gateway? Here we are trusting

(1) Server Admin (that's human)
(2) Hack protection of the server
(2) Client software

I see this as a transitory stage, which may well be replaced in the future by a trustless system.

I think James is saying that at this point we need such à gateway because we need nxt to be traded to get people involved and generally get the machinery working.

I agree on this.

Correct me if I am misrepresenting your motivation here, James.

PROPOSAL FOR AUTOMATED GATEWAY BACKED BY NXT COMMUNITY

If the client devs will also add a custom crypto exchange to the clients, NXT will effectively have this built in for all users. I am pretty sure DOGE can't do this!

James

Edit: Since community is paying for this, there will be no costs charged other than bare minimum protocol requires.

If this is safe and works, I'd be willing to back this with some funds (5000 Nxt)
I can't judge that myself, but if some devs say it is, I'm game.
990  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 12, 2014, 11:18:03 PM
Lower transaction fees will actually end up ENCOURAGING more transactions.

A twentieth part of a thousand pies gives one more pies than a tenth of a hundred pies Smiley

Edit: I'm hungry now  Cry

Dude, RIGHT FREAKING NOW is the opportunity to buy TONS of NXT, BEFORE it really goes mainstream.  We are at the point now comparable to BTC's stage when BTC was $0.01/BTC.  I just dont understand what people are bitching about.  Oh, but some other people bought 49M NXT for only 1BTC, WHAAAAAAAA!  Well what about the point when BTC cost was only $.0001/BTC, was that also not unfair?
I'm not bitching dude, I'm just making constructive criticism. Let me phrase it like this:

Is 1 NXT per 1000 NXT transaction a better idea?  Roll Eyes

This is the situation now, when we still haven't got many transactions (although more than a month ago).

The fees will rise when services are in place. I am still working on getting payment modules in place and also working on a simple shop.
Once there are more shops/services, fees will rise dramatically. Block can hold up to 255 transactions. That can be a LOT of Nxt to forge!

I can imagine why you say this in the current situation, but if we make it higher now, we will have major adoption problems in the future.

Patience, and knowing that there WILL be higher fees in the blocks are important here Smiley

I am just thinking out loud about how we can get Nxt more fair and better.

I currently hold 7288 NXT. I just purchased 1500 more ($70 USD). I'd love to have 30k by April 3.

There are two ways to be fair:

1. Buy your NXT
2. Work/earn your NXT

That 1500 NXT I purchased? I could afford it because I signed up for an extra shift where I work. That's fair.

Sorry to sound inflammatory, but everything else is BS.

I'd like to add that I've earned more in Nxt last month than I do at my regular job  Cheesy

I've been in contact with several people, including Matt Green (zerocoin).  I was originally referred to Matt by Susan Waters (http://cs.jhu.edu/~susan/) who was his professor, and Susan also recommended Lisa Yin in the same email.  I've had contact with Lisa and she sounds open to an audit.  Lisa has a PHD from MIT in Crypto.  I have contact with a few other academics as well.

Not trying to sound bossy, but you should have your NXT acct in your sig. This is critical stuff.

vs., say, bulldoge/puppydoge/underdoge/wolfe Smiley

Why?  I don't need donations.

Put my account in your sig then Wink

By the way: Nxtchg's site is for sale: https://nxtchg.com/sale.php

Someone might want to take it over.

This is great and you should feel great!

I love it!

Edit: I also love the collar of the Nxt wolfe.  Grin

Understood, no worries. I think I will invest anyhow 200€ on a single monolith prototype to see how it comes out. I would not want to leave this project a draft only.

I would definitely make them.
They are too expensive for my wallet, too, but I'm sure you will be able to sell them.

I would also advise to date them.

Edit: as in "to put a date on them". Don't take them to dinner or the cinema, that would just be sad.

Good point Damelon. I already traced my gvans-signature and year 2014 on the processing-file but you mean adding the whole date like 12. Feb 2014 etc? Anyhow, no plans to take dating my nxt-monoliths any further, yet...  Grin

Why not 2013-2014?
That way it may appeal to the early adopters/founders, who are after all the ones with the most Nxt and thus your natural target group  Grin

A full date would also work for me. That way they become more "collectible".
998  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 12, 2014, 05:58:05 PM
BullDoge imo is just this: "look Doge crowd - we have a network here (NXT) network, that is stronger than Bitcoin"

That's all, just to look in our direction.

It's important -- maybe not mandatory, but important -- to have a doge ambassador, patron, supporter etc to be involved from the start. Defector is too negative of a word; maybe someone who could help doge people migrate and navigate the features.

Bulldoge navigator in an admiral's hat. Make it so.

+1 to swartzfeger.

This could work, BUT we don't want to make this look like either an attack on DOGE or an attempt to ride on DOGES back.
Basically, don't be assholes about it.
NXT could certainly use a tipping/throwing coins around element, it'll be useful, and not just for a bit of extra marketing.

I would suggest. like SF above, to reach out to the DOGE posse and ask for some help/input/whatever.
Co-operate, don't compete directly.

We can call it PuppyDoge !

Or UnderDoge  Grin

What is that saying about attention? Even if negative?

But yes, if you make it just a full-force parody, not an insult...

Hey, I'm not here to tell anyone what to do.
Go ahead if you want to. Just pointing out that if done wrong, it can backfire. Smiley
