981  Other / Meta / Re: Why is Halloween not being celebrated in our forum yet this year? on: October 26, 2023, 02:57:41 AM
The best thing about these kinds of contests is they draw all the cheaters & alt accounts, making them easy to identify.

I know the contests are born out of purely good intentions, but as we've also seen with the pizza and art contest (as well as all the price prediction contests & free raffles), they attract a lot of users without consciousnesses. Anything that has to do with free money will attract scumbags who won't respect the rules -- that's just how its always been, long before bitcoin.

If you are using exchanges that don't report to the IRS, then the activity on those exchanges may have well never existed at all...
Don't they have a database for all their users? I'm assuming they're still required to keep a few years of data.

AFAIK, crypto exchanges outside of the US don't report customer tax information to the IRS. Legally speaking, however, US citizens are supposed to self-report trading activity on these exchanges. Its hard to imagine a scenario where international exchanges would provide customer data to the IRS... If they do report it to US authorities, it would be more likely because they are cooperating in a federal investigation for crimes not related to tax fraud.
983  Economy / Reputation / Re: Should Ratimov be in DT1? on: October 25, 2023, 11:48:21 AM
I wouldn't participate in any voting or elections if I know that results won't significantly change anything.

This is the crux of all politics... getting people to believe that their vote matters. Somewhat ironically, the fewer people that vote, the more their vote matters.

First improve DT system, than ask people to join or leave.

I'm curious as to how you would change it. I think its set up reasonably well, but perhaps what's more important is its a vast improvement over the old system.

I've seen several suggestions, and my favourite is still to require more than one DT1-vote to reach DT2, but I doubt there's a perfect solution.

I like that.. maybe 2 or 3. Would make trust padding more difficult to achieve. According to your lists in Meta, there's well over 600 DT1 + DT2 members in any given month. Perhaps that's too many.
984  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Michael Saylor talks about Bitcoin, and you WILL be disappointed on: October 25, 2023, 08:54:59 AM
Saylor is an extremely shrewd businessman who, like many other megalomaniac CEOs, is obsessed with obtaining as much wealth and power as he can before he dies. And that's it: that's what he wants to do with his life. He will say or do anything for the sake of making a dollar, and I doubt he actually holds many convictions.

Its fine to root for Saylor as a voice for Bitcoin to help number go up, but all the simping for him I've seen over the years makes me nauseous. I wish bitcoiners would think for themselves & stop idolizing this type of behavior.

985  Economy / Reputation / Re: AI Spam Report Reference Thread on: October 25, 2023, 08:22:53 AM
Going forward, remember that its a good idea to submit (at least) 3 reports for a member when they are being mentioned in this thread for the first time. The reason for doing this is to help establish a clear pattern that the poster is using ChatGPT to write their posts for them.

Also I recommend using Hivemoderation and Sapling.ai as the two primary detection sources. If there is any doubt, results should also backed by a positive finding by Copyleaks ("AI Content Detected").

Here's a gambling board shitposter whose account has all kinds of problems. They frequently de-capitalize letters and add text to attempt to make the post not totally GPT-written, but fail:

Indeed, giving advice if someone continues to view gambling as a source of income or a way to make money consistently is always not considered correct for such gamblers and this can pose a risk of being trapped in a detrimental gambling pattern.

gambling should not be considered a source of income or a way to make money consistently. Although there are some players who have managed to profit from gambling, it is important to remember that gambling is random and does not guarantee certain results.

one must reduce excessive expectations and understand that gambling has an inherent element of uncertainty. By prioritizing fun and entertainment over financial results, a person can reduce the risk of addiction and significant financial loss. Emphasizing the importance of balance in life and seeking satisfaction from various sources of healthy entertainment can help a person avoid the detrimental pitfalls of gambling.

Gambling does not guarantee wealth or luck, and the outcome is always uncertain, we must use gambling as a responsible form of entertainment, not as a way to overcome financial problems or seek instant profits.

and yes Involving the family in understanding your gambling activities and discussing the challenges you may be facing can overcome gambling addiction or any problems involved in gambling (including making loans).
Family support can be a very important source of strength in overcoming the gambling you experience.

By opening honest and open communication, you can build mutual awareness about the importance of responsible gambling and avoid possible negative impacts. Discussing financial management strategies and developing healthy gambling habits together can strengthen family relationships and help avoid the pitfalls of uncontrolled gambling behavior.

Indeed, for some people, the thrill of betting and the excitement of the hope of winning a big prize can be an incentive for them to continue gambling activities.

Meanwhile, for others, gambling may be considered a fun form of entertainment, without too much focus on winning. The social aspect of gambling, such as betting with friends and enjoying good conversation, can also make for a exciting experience.

Gambling can have an emotional impact. If we are unable to control it, we must ensure that participati in that gambling activities is carried out responsibly so we do not experience huge losses.

One other thing: going forward, if 3 or more posts by a user reported as "AI spam" are deleted by the mods, I will be issuing neutral tags that say "AI spammer" to the offending account. If the user stops that behavior for at least a month or so and then contacts me about the tag, I will consider removing it.

987  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: The Historical NFT Speculation & Appreciation Thread on: October 25, 2023, 07:25:50 AM
25 of 60 full Bit Bowl team sets have been sold thus far. As the season progresses I expect more will sell, especially as the bull market continues to pick back up.

In Rare Pepe news, Emblem Vault has migrated the entire collection of vaulted Rare Pepes to their new format of curated collections, which means they are now easier to filter, sort and verify. This has resulted in a massive uptick in wrapped Rare Pepe sales through OpenSea.

988  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: 🐕 🥳 Ð O G E R M I N T 🐕 🥳 - vintage DOGE tokens with new artwork ("NFTs") on: October 25, 2023, 07:06:44 AM
Its been a while since I provided an update. Momentum was definitely hampered by the extended bear market, but things seem to be slowly picking back up again, and before too long I suspect the Historical NFT movement will be in full swing again (can't necessarily say the same for the rest of the NFT market).

Just want to drop a reminder that plenty of DOGEPENNY are still available in our last dispenser for this vintage token (minted in August 2014 and artwork added last year). You can get this badboy at the low price of 4 DOGE each:

Sending 4 DOGE to the this dispenser (from a Dogewallet) triggers the automatic sale of the token. So sending 40 DOGE triggers the sale of 10 DOGEPENNY, etc.

Will provide a dispenser price update for the rest of the Dogermint collection shortly.
989  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ranking NFL Quarterbacks by Manliness on: October 25, 2023, 06:18:19 AM
Today let's take a look at a QB who helmed his team to a victory "against all odds" against the San Francisco 49ers... He was one of the 3 QBs who appeared in the Netflix docuseries, "Quarterback," alongside Patrick Mahomes and Marcus Mariota.

Kirk Cousins

Height: A (6'3")
Chin: A-
Forehead: A
Voice: A-

Despite being an "on-again, off-again" quarterback, Cousins certainly has all the trappings of greatness for a star player. Of sizeable height in both stature and forehead, he looks like a man who carries around a 100+ play playbook in his cranium. Despite putting up solid number through much of career, he has yet to come close to a Super Bowl victory. We can't blame his physical characteristics for this, however; perhaps he just hasn't been given the proper arsenal of players he needs to let his true talent shine.
990  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: IRS proposes unprecedented data-collection on crypto users on: October 25, 2023, 04:59:12 AM
I'm friends with a retired tax collector who all but assured me that the chances of being audited for not reporting crypto-related stuff were slim. First of all, as an American, you're only subjected to taxes on trades made on exchanges that report data to the IRS. This may already be all major America-based crypto exchanges, but if you are a casual trader who, let's say, has less than $30k of tax obligations in a year, you are highly unlikely to be audited. This is because the cost of the audit exceeds the amount the IRS could potentially recover during the course of collections.

If you are using exchanges that don't report to the IRS, then the activity on those exchanges may have well never existed at all...

BTW I'm not advocating that people cheat on their taxes, just relaying info from a knowledgeable source.
991  Economy / Reputation / Re: Should Ratimov be in DT1? on: October 25, 2023, 03:27:37 AM
Also keep in mind that even when caught plagiarising he thought the best excuse is not admitting that was he was doing was unethical, but that Google Translate made him do it.

Somewhat coincidentally, I recall that Lauda was also busted on a plagiarism issue (from years back, like 2015 or 2016) and it caused a minor stir when there was no moderation action taken against them.

Have you noticed every single DT and non-DT always complains about trust system

I don't complain about it. I think it works fairly well, so long as we keep each other in check.

All of those posts were On Topic and constructive. I did not use any foul language like others did even though I know using these words is allowed. So, why those posts were removed? Because some so-called heavy-weight reputed member reported them?

Because Ratimov deleted his posts and thus your posts were rendered off-topic.

Edit: the posts in question weren't deleted, just merged
992  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The PATRIOT Act comes to cryptocurrency on: October 24, 2023, 07:58:21 AM
The good news is the US government won't have the manpower to enforce compliance of such regulations to a T. They can only threaten non-complying entities with sanctions and criminal charges, which likely won't come to fruition unless something like the Lazarus Group is using said entity to launder funds.

What we see time and again is that investigations & raids are only conducted when the government has a strong chance of recouping their expenses... This goes all the way back to the Silk Road bust and continues through the ChipMixer takedown. This is also how the IRS operates: unless the government can more than recoup its cost, an audit is unlikely to take place.

I'll misquote Greg Carlin "Think of how brainwashed the average person is, and then realise that half the population are more brainwashed than that."

Funny enough George (not Greg) Carlin hated it when people accredited him on the internet for stuff he didn't say, but you  haven't received any sMerits yet so I sent you a couple of them.

994  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi's first tweet since 2018? on: October 24, 2023, 06:25:22 AM
You know what to do with Satoshi's post. Never delete your Bitcoin wallets Cheesy

I know he made a post, read below.
Sigh... why delete a wallet instead of moving it aside and keeping the old copy just in case?  You should never delete a wallet.

A few times I've swept lots of old private keys, only to discover the combined balance was zero... Sadly nobody ever accidentally sent BTC to my old addresses. He's right tho. What's 16 kb of data storage anyway.

I have started to love x's (twitter's) "Readers added context" feature day by the day. The reason I appreciate it is because it's akin Bitcoin – no matter how smart you become, you can't outperform the network.

Yes for now its been working great. Sadly it got implemented only a few weeks after Musk shared some fake news regarding a well-known politician's husband. Even ads are subject to community note fact checks.
995  Economy / Reputation / Re: Should Ratimov be in DT1? on: October 24, 2023, 06:10:58 AM
I can only salute your decision to distrust him. Similar, I salute the decision of NeuroticFish for doing the same and the decisions of sheenshane and 1miau and Nestade for deleting him from their Trust lists.

And this is as far as it should go -- the behavior(s) described shouldn't warrant negative trust.

@Ratimov you were on the right path with deleting your feedback for GazetaBitcoin... It seems like your buttons were pushed and you left new ones, which is unfortunate.

The both of you are firmly entrenched in your DT positions. You should consider sucking it up and deleting each others feedbacks unconditionally; try not to let the incident forever mar your Bitcointalk experience.

"Oh but his other ratings are ok"... well tough shit, Lauda had a bunch of good ratings and was 100x more valuable to the forum than Ratimov ever will be, and got excluded. One can be a valuable forum member outside of DT.

Lauda had a bunch of bad ratings as well, was extremely vindictive and used (his/her/their) power to basically bully people into submission... its almost like they got off on it. I haven't witnessed Ratimov do that but perhaps I just haven't been in those threads.

Waiting for someone like Cøbra to say something like this about Ratimov:

Lauda needs to be permanently banned just to improve the community. Never seen a more horrible person on a forum before.

Also, a lot of non-scammers breathed a sigh of relief when Lauda finally left.

because of the spineless nature of DT1 there is basically no recourse.

Hey I resemble that remark

996  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi's first tweet since 2018? on: October 24, 2023, 02:41:32 AM
WTF is this trust list, and who cares about it and why would it affect bitcoin talk forum login ?! Does it check it ?

It doesn't affect anyone's ability to log in. The screenshot is a link to an external website which has no bearing on the actual forum itself. If you look at Satoshi's profile on Bitcointalk, it looks exactly the same as the day he left (minus the Merit column and topics count).

In fact, Satoshi Nakamoto account, satoshi was not banned, but locked.
https://bpip.org/Profile?p=satoshi

It was locked for security reason, by theymos.
If Satoshi Nakamoto want to get that account back, Satoshi must sign a message with PGP Signature.

LoyceV explained why it is shown as locked.
...
Update:
From Will "satoshi" ever login again?:
Do you think "satoshi" will ever just randomly log in one day and post something?
His account is locked, so no. If he wants to claim his account, he'll have to contact me with a PGP signature.

Rumor has it that when Satoshi returns he will give all forum users 1 BTC for each merit they have  Cool

This is why you should always have a BTC address in your profile.
997  Other / Meta / Re: Ban Appeal For NoorulHuda. on: October 24, 2023, 01:38:58 AM
The price of BTC is up, looks who's back.

That's the reason I don't know what should show or post to prove that account was no mine but was my brother's accounts.

There's nothing you can show, which is why I suggested you forget about it and move on.

This is a proof if someone want to believe,

This is not a proof in any universe.

should not linked to me.

He didn't link to you -- you linked to him.

I'm still waiting for the actual reason of my ban.

Wait no further: you were banned because you used the ETH address of a banned user.

It is so easy to create your own address, why would you possibly use another person's address unless you are that person? You know what, don't answer that. There is no good reason, only a bunch of poor and unlikely ones.
998  Economy / Reputation / Re: Should Ratimov be in DT1? on: October 23, 2023, 04:29:29 AM
I don't really want to take sides and get involved with the drama, but there's a couple observations I have about the situation:

- Ratimov works hard at doing... whatever it is he does, which I think is an overall net positive to the forum. Not many "outwork" him. I appreciate the bulk of his ratings, they are backed by references and for the most part make sense.

- As far as his last two ratings on GazetaBitcoin are concerned, they are wholly unnecessary and should be removed. I get that tensions run high around here sometimes but maintaining this sort of grudge helps no one in the long run.

Hope you guys can come to some sort of amicable agreement and as is famously said around here, manage to de-escalate the situation.

How much money have I cheated?
You accuse me without taking a penny of people's money.
it's beyond reason.

I had to go back a while to find this, but you enrolled all 3 of these accounts into the OYSTER bounty:

I have received my gift for bounty twitter.
I hope the price will increase in the near future.

Meanwhile per campaign rules:

  • Multiple accounts are not allowed and will result in banning you from our campaign.

You did the same thing with SmartBillions and Verify bounties.

You have also sent merits to yourself on a couple of different occasions:

https://bpip.org/smerit.aspx?from=Maxre&to=irsada
https://bpip.org/smerit.aspx?to=inanilujimi&from=irsada

So, you're a bounty cheater and are sending yourself merits, in addition to the scammer allegations. I wouldn't be surprised if you have several other alt accounts, in addition to the ones I named in a previous post, but I won't be tagging those for now.
