981  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Exchangers to avoid? on: February 11, 2017, 04:54:25 PM
I would avoid any exchange that previously got hacked and didn't improve anything on their security , In other words , the exchanges that don't use cold storage for holding most of their funds therefore that makes them at risk of getting hacked anytime.
If you find yourself obliged to use an unknown exchange that is legit but not running for a long time then trading and withdrawing as soon as you finish should keep you safe.
982  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] ICONOMI - Fund Management Platform on: February 10, 2017, 05:19:48 PM
I heard some people were talking about a conference that should've been done on 9 February , did Jani or the ICONOMI staff announced anything regarding the launch or not yet ? It definitely took them a lot of time since the last early access they talked about last time .
983  Economy / Economics / Re: Japan now #1 in volume on: February 10, 2017, 03:39:01 PM
This means nothing honestly , Quoine is currently number #1 simply because the Chinese exchanges such as Huobi and OKCoin stopped the withdrawal and some operations and It's a matter of time till they start once again and they get their places back. Logically the volume comes from the countries that has the biggest mining farms and China still that country.
984  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: anyone who know "cointelegraph.com" on: February 10, 2017, 01:37:55 PM
I would like to post an article or banner on their site, so I am considered whether they can bring me traffic and great result.

I was talking about the quality of the website mostly , If you are speaking about the traffic then yes they do have a decent one and they are one of the most visited bitcoin news sites and you could confirm by looking the number of views in their articles where they usually hit +10k .
985  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Need your suggestion, may start a BTC lending service on: February 10, 2017, 12:03:09 PM
If the member is DefaultTrust , trusted or from the staff then the chances that he is going to scam are unlikely so I see no problem on giving the loan as long as the user don't have any current scam accusations against them. Try to valuate his account worth as well because If the loan request amount is much higher then his account worth then you should definitely ask for a collateral.
986  Local / Échanges / Re: Recherche plateforme d'achat & échange on: February 10, 2017, 10:52:30 AM
987  Other / Meta / Re: Forum ranks/positions/badges (What do those shiny coins under my name mean?) on: February 10, 2017, 06:34:04 AM
Thanks for posting this information. I was wondering how to move past this newbie status. Are post lengths factored in?

They are not but usually (not always) short posts are considered as off-topic or not constructive so making a lot of those could be considered as a spam and result into a temporary ban and permanent ban If It's still being done after having your first ban , not to mention that you may lose your chances for enrolling into a signature campaign If you are planning to do that.
988  Economy / Economics / Re: Better adoption through use of mBTC on: February 09, 2017, 07:42:31 PM
I personally think It's the other way around , If people sees that one bitcoin costs 1000$ right now that should give them a good idea on how valuable it is and probably encourage them on investing , at least this is how I see it. It also should be easy to understand that bitcoin can be broken into decimal places as well since transactions can be seen on the blockchain.
989  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When SegWit And Lightning Network Will Be Implemented? on: February 09, 2017, 06:56:07 PM
LN will be implemented after SegWit because LN needs SegWit in order to work. So this has nothing to do with "makes it easier". Your 4-5 months are just the outcome if we have 15% new support of mines per month, which seems not to realistic for me. So far we had a steady rise followed by a stagnation. This makes me assume that we will see the stagnation for a while and then a sudden jump or drop. But how long this stagnation will go on is beyond my or anybodys ability.

It's clearly mentioned on their blog post that SegWit is not a must in order to have Lightning network functioning but actually makes things better as stated before by another user. "lnd’s channel design currently utilizes the upcoming Bitcoin upgrade: segwit. Although alternative less-ideal channel constructions are possible without segwit"
990  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: anyone who know "cointelegraph.com" on: February 09, 2017, 06:19:30 PM
I know them , there is actually two services that I use for reading news about bitcoin most of the time and they are coindesk and cointelegraph . I however must warn you because they have some accusations against them , the services promoted or advertised there shouldn't be used blatantly so make sure to do your research first.
991  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Scam indicators? on: February 09, 2017, 04:11:18 PM
Being scammed in one way or another seems inevitable, what are the clear indicators that a legit-looking service is actually a big scam of some sorts? Is this forum a good place for info to detect a fraudulent scheme?

You should first start by looking at the trust profile of the concerned user because because usually DefaultTrust members leave negative trust on their profiles when someone opens a scam accusation about their services. If the service is new and looks legit as a start then there is no way to know for sure but you could use your logic , If it's a trading website for example then you could measure the trust by the effort that the developers has put on it , If the design is bad as hell , the domain name is free or not professional , no HTTPS , low domain age , all those indicate that the website is not planning to run for long term and run with funds.
992  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: People really are falling HARD for the Chronobank scam on: February 09, 2017, 03:01:51 PM
It's impossible to call them a scam without a proof for now, their GitHub account is active enough and I guess there is nothing to complain about when It comes to the development speed. Lykke , Exmo and Liqui all partnered with ChronoBank indeed as for Instahire I admit that I couldn't find anything about this partnership but this is probably due the fact that Instahire.jobs have no blog. I also don't think they will run with the funds as they are known to the public and there pictures are all over the internet.
993  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Blockchain, BitPanda wallet question. on: February 08, 2017, 06:11:34 PM
BitPanda is an exchange which should clearly have some fees while buying or selling but Blockchain.info don't have any except the bitcoin network fees that every wallet has. I cannot recommend using BitPanda or any other exchange as a wallet because you don't have control over the private keys , If they ever get hacked or something similar then your funds will be lost forever.
994  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When will we have a Block size increase? on: February 08, 2017, 05:34:20 PM
I'm not sure If anything changed since then but the last thing I've read in this subject was a few months back (planned roadmap)

  • SegWit is expected to be released in April 2016.
  • The code for the hard-fork will therefore be available by July 2016.
  • If there is strong community support, the hard-fork activation will likely happen around July 2017.

I also cannot tell for sure what's the definition of community support is in this case and as I said on an earlier thread , SegWit adoption doesn't look so promising.

995  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When SegWit Will Be Implemented? on: February 08, 2017, 05:16:47 PM
Why does it takes so long?
We need faster confirmations.

Percentage of blocks signalling SegWit support should reach 95% In order to get SegWit implemented otherwise It won't happen. It's being like two months without any significant changes on the chart , I doubt we will ever get there but as said above that won't make transactions faster but LN will.
996  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: How to receive Bitcoin payments? on: February 08, 2017, 03:33:03 PM
I found it unsafe to trust a third party service that doesn't give you control of your private keys because If they see suspicious activities , a KYC verification could be necessary at some point. Blockchain have a Receive Payments API which should allow doing what you asked for but I've seen some posts lately about them not responding to API keys requests and think could be unstable sometimes. Alternatively , running bitcoind is definitely the best choice as you have more control on everything but It could cost you a little bit as you will need to have a full node.
997  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Looking for intermediate stop between $ and blockchain on: February 08, 2017, 02:25:50 PM
Coinbase is having some legal issues with the IRS lately so not using them was a good decision . You didn't mention your country so Its kinda hard to suggest any service but there is a list already that should help you make up your mind , most of them will ask you for your ID verification at least though.
998  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trade sites that do not fee? on: February 08, 2017, 01:39:39 PM
In order for a service to continue working It has to charge fees to pay the developers , server costs and marketing. If you want to use something that doesn't charge any fees then It should be decentralized and P2P , Its far from being perfect at the moment but BitSquare.io could really do the job. You can also look to trade with individuals on the forums instead of looking for a site to do that.
999  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Qtum]UTXO based POS Smart Contract Platform | Crowdsale March 2017 on: February 07, 2017, 05:44:42 PM
indeed either a scam or vaporware, there's no code just talk

ahh moderate thread

scam bye

Clearly more information's will be released before the ICO gets launched and If I were you , I wouldn't call them a scam before seeing something that shows otherwise . I mean for the moment , the only thing they are doing is advertising and they are actually giving money instead of taking it for their project. If the project got mentioned in the major news websites and magazines It only shows how legit it is.
1000  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestions for 200th ad round? on: February 07, 2017, 04:23:45 PM
Well that's the fun of it. Maybe getting the whole year of advertising would be worth the gamble.  I suppose you could offer lesser durations for second and third place to make it less risky for bidders.

Wouldn't that make things a little bit chaotic ? I mean If we take in consideration that the forum don't moderate scams and the advertised product or service is a scam , not a confirmed one but has a few scam accusations , what decision would be taken in that case ? It definitely could hurt some users so I'd say It's better to keep time as It is right now instead of expanding it to a few months/a year.
