1 question say you have a lot of coins in a wallet say 1 million would it be safer to encrypt the wallet so you don't get hacked or put into cold storage .. but if you do this will you miss out on minting the coins / POS or is it safe to leave it unencrypted ?

sorry for my ignorance still learning

997  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What are the uses of Namecoins (NMC)? on: October 06, 2012, 12:26:02 PM
I'm only getting namecoins because it comes with my bitcoins compliments of BTC Guild.  I'd love to use them, but I couldn't even get a local wallet installed properly.  For those of us that don't have the time to study a technology's inner workings, I've found Namecoin useless.  Give me a simple GUI application that allows me to utilize Namecoin for URL's and that displays all these crazy options.  If the average user can't use a technology it doesn't have a chance for mainstream.  Bitcoin is still a bit too hard for people outside of this community.  Entrepenures that are actually paying for websites to sell goods or maintain a news/social community aren't going to be able to use Namecoin.  Its a technology that is iffy for .onion developers.  That doesn't say much.

999  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can LTC ever be worth more then .25 of a BTC? on: October 06, 2012, 09:33:56 AM
Well let's think about the possibility of gpu miners switching to litecoin mining in the near future. There is about 21 Terahashes on the bitcoin network. Of which let's put a conservative 15 Terahashes is gpu specific. Let's get crazy and say half of those people choose to give litecoin a try before they shut down their rigs for good. Let's equally convert 7.5 Terahashes to 7.5 Gigahashes worth of litecoin mining. Right now the litecoin network totals about .35 Gigahashes at this moment. It's not too outrageous to say that we could see the network grow between 20 to 25 times what is is right now. If this were to happen it would cost quite a bit in electricity just to earn 20 litecoins in a day. I could totally see the value rising significantly for at least a short period of time if this scenario was to occur. Guess we will have to wait and see.

Interesting times...for sure...
