I'm not so surprise about Huobi, since their date might be fake. What I am surprised about is Gox being so low. Bitfinex is only half of Gox. Craaazzzzyyy!!!
982  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: $1000.00 ATMS comming on: January 15, 2014, 12:15:20 AM
http://www.coindesk.com/skyhooks-open-source-bitcoin-atm/

An opensource project from my home town! this could really change the landscape. only 1.3 BTC at current exchange prices!  Ok, it's really only a BTC vending machine because it can't dispense fiat, but it's 1/4 the price of it's cheapest competitor.  Go Stumptown!

Thats a great deal. I wonder what other expenses come along with having to operate this, as in licenses and such.
983  Economy / Speculation / Re: 820 is the new 130 (Stamp) on: January 14, 2014, 11:58:09 PM
So we will have another dip then? We had that SR dip last time after 130.

If we are going to extrapolate, might as well extrapolate everything.
984  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin prophesy on: January 14, 2014, 11:53:54 PM
This thread is dedicated to bad news prophecies only?
985  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 14, 2014, 11:51:53 PM
How long would you guys consider "long-term" be?

I am bearish, but only for another 2 weeks. At the longest until income tax returns come around. That is when I bought in last year, with my "free money". I suspect some people will do the same this year.
986  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is Stratum Difficulty? on: January 14, 2014, 12:48:27 PM
If you mean a pool difficulty it is filtering out shares below a certain threshold to reduce network bandwidth. It leverages high hash rates, theory being you will find so many shares over a certain difficulty a second with a certain hashrate. Setting the difficulty too high will really hurt your mining return, but setting it too low might leave your miner wasting time looking for new work on the pool.

Any share your miner finds below the current pool difficulty is not sent to the pool, but you get paid more for each share you do submit. Different pools implement this different ways, but you generally get paid more for higher difficulty shares. In the end it is supposed to average out to the same pay as submitting every single valid share you find.

I have 10 GH/s what should I set mine to?

If you are on gash.io leave it on 16; which is the minimum
987  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Hacking a BFL Jalapeno to 32GH and beyond....(???) on: January 14, 2014, 10:07:15 AM
I have a LS30 that I flashed and now I'm averaging about 34-35Ghs. It runs anywhere from 68-70C so I am thinking about watercooling it. How easy is it to mount something like you have?
988  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [HOWTO] flash your jalapeno to 8+ ghs on: January 14, 2014, 09:45:38 AM

I never said I could flash it via usb. I have a PI and a home made cable as outlined earlier in this thread, AVR dragon not required.

Unit is on "stock" firmware, that is to say I haven't flashed it so I dont actually know what version its running sorry. Any easy way to tell or will i need to hook up the pi ?

Most BFL products have a sticker inside the unit, sometimes on the base plate, with the version number and production details.
989  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Ghash.io and he existential threat to bitcoin on: January 14, 2014, 09:41:26 AM
I think it is fine, but I would like Ghash.io to put this paragraph on their website so everyone involved with them can read it each morning and feel proud of themselves.

'Everyday I am doing my best to destroy Bitcoin! Everyday I am giving resources to a mining pool that controls more than 10% of the network! One day soon I will be able to look my daughter, my mother and my wife in the eye and tell them that I am personally responsible for them being prostitutes and slaves. Yes, I personally gave money to help buy the equipment the government and central banks used to gain control of the Bitcoin network, crash the price and destroy trust in Bitcoin. I could have just bought Bitcoin or used P2Pool but instead I wanted to be the devil and destroy mankind."

So you want this on every pool that has more than 10% of the network? That's pretty much all of them.
990  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 14, 2014, 08:54:54 AM
Haha. The Blacklist tonight talks about taking fiat running it through a ripple exchange, converting it to Bitcoin then selling it to launder money. Thanks NBC!

lol ripple.

Amost Human tv show mentions bitcoin again in this last episode, which makes it 3 episodes where they mention bitcoin.  It seems bitcoin is used by criminals mostly in that show too.

I just saw this as well. I think everyone on the show (based on the future) uses bitcoin. They just only investigate criminals, so it makes it seems that it is only used by criminals. It is weird that the first two times they mention bitcoin on the show, the show a usb drive like device. I'm guessing its the future "hardware wallet". I want one now!
991  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The most compelling Bitcoin presentation I've ever seen: Andreas M. Antonopoulos on: January 14, 2014, 07:29:14 AM
Well done Andreas!

I just sent those videos to about 50 people who I've talked to about bitcoin but just don't grasp it completely. This will help them a ton.
992  Economy / Speculation / Re: On February 15, we will reach the Debt Ceiling again (USA) Possible shutdown on: January 14, 2014, 05:36:03 AM
But back on topic....

How much did BTC increase on the last gov't shutdown?
993  Economy / Speculation / Re: On February 15, we will reach the Debt Ceiling again (USA) Possible shutdown on: January 14, 2014, 05:35:24 AM

Stop spending 20 BILLION a year fighting marijuana.

But think of the police! What will they do with all their extra time? Solve real crimes? You must be crazy!   Wink

Hahaha.... True.

Maybe they could get jobs cultivating weed crops, which I'm sure would pay more. Thousands upon thousands of new jobs would be created over night.

Just counting down the Presidents until this happens.
994  Economy / Speculation / Re: On February 15, we will reach the Debt Ceiling again (USA) Possible shutdown on: January 14, 2014, 05:07:20 AM
Just more rambling and thoughts..

Without Bitcoin, how would the United States solve the problem? Are they really gonna just keep increasing the debt ceiling and printing more money every few months?
What is there plan long term to solve this (without cryptocurrency) or is it mathematically impossible to pay off the US Debt?

Legalize marijuana nationwide.
Stop spending 20 BILLION a year fighting marijuana.
Tax it.
Pay off debt.

Well some of it.
995  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hi everyone! Do you know where to buy these mounting plates? on: January 14, 2014, 04:59:37 AM
I believe those are called mending plates.

Google 2 hole mending plates. I know they have them at home depot. You just need to match your screw size to whatever you are mounting to.

Here is something similar on amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Stanley-Hardware-Mechanically-Galvanized-755855/dp/B000FKF15E/ref=pd_sxp_grid_i_1_1

Hope this helps!
996  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: btc 1TH/s (1000GH/s) on: January 14, 2014, 04:50:19 AM
Thanks heaps  Cheesy

Will i have to keep adding rigs as the difficulty gets harder or will this be fine for a fair while yet?

It depends. If the btc price keeps rising, you will make the same amount of USD over time. If you want to continue to get .28btc per day like you would until the next difficulty, then you would have to add 20-30% more equipment every 14 days.

Sounds expensive doesn't it!
997  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Craigslist Scams on: January 14, 2014, 04:47:54 AM
Have recently bought and sold some hardware on Craigslist and have encountered a rather clever scam that left me cold.

Had a 3 hour conversation with a guy who sounded just like myself when I started: enthusiastic, optimistic about getting better equipment, knowledgeable but looking for guidance from someone more experienced.

Nervous, he asked if the machine could be pointed at his account to see the stability.  In the end, we agreed that an escrow deposit would be made and a pickup time for the equipment established. "Sure," was the reply.

The latest sales norm on Ebay seems to be that if you buy a machine, you now own it so the seller will immediately point it at your pool until it ships.

So, when asked if the equipment could be left running overnight since he was making a deposit, and after spending 3-4 hours in multiple conversations, and back and forth over 20 emails, the answer again was, "Sure, no problem."

Next day, no escrow, no answer to E-mail or text, no pickup, and 8 hours of mining time lost to another scammer.

It may seem obvious in hindsight and I have a strict, "4 hours for 10x the deposit" policy.  Be careful out there in BTC-land.  There are a lot of really great, smart, helpful people.  And due to the nature of what we are doing it's bringing out the dregs of society in full force as well.

Happy mining!

Out of curiosity how much hashing power are you talking about? I guess if he does this to multiple people it would pay off, unless he got you for a lot of hash power.
998  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Selling coins - Go and tell me everything on: January 14, 2014, 04:44:44 AM
Im sure you could sell them on this forum, and use an escrow service or a reputable member that does escrow. Thats if you want to go straight to cash.

You would publicly make the post in the correct sub forum
Send the 5K LTC to the escrow service or member
Buyer sends cash or a bank wire to you
Buyer shows you and escrow the money was sent
You confirm
Escrow releases LTC to buyer

Escrow fees are extremely small compared to the fees incurred by going through exchanges, and the time this takes is equally as small.

Send it to my personnal bank account?? Questionnable money isn't it ?

True.

I sold a Casascius 100BTC bar to a friend, who wired me the money, and the bank never asked a question. If they do, I have proof of sale. But then again, this was before banks really knew about bitcoin.
999  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 14, 2014, 04:41:27 AM
I swear I just saw ChartBuddy post two times in a row.

This thread is slower than the choo choo you guys speak of lol.

Lets pick it up guys, I'm bored.
1000  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: The official MacMiner thread [BTC/LTC-CPU/GPU/FPGA/ASIC] on: January 14, 2014, 04:31:52 AM
Besides a SMC error I need to fix this is all I see in Console.

1/13/14 9:37:44.562 PM MacMiner[22680]: I'm sploding!

Thats after quitting the application. Starting the app, and doing anything during shows nothing in the console.
An SMC error from MacMiner? I was hoping for something like this

14/01/2014 02:50:10.558 MacMiner[18366]: Error getting http://mobileminer.azurewebsites.net/api/RemoteCommands?emailAddress=john@fabulouspanda.co.uk&applicationKey=xxxx-xxxx-xxxx&machineName=myServ&apiKey=26efrOXrizmEF3, HTTP status code 502

It must mean something is going wrong before then… thanks for checking it out, hopefully I'll get that sorted tomorrow!

No no, not SMC from macminer, just something I need to fix.

I got that error you mentioned when I reset my router and had no connection, so I know its "working" on that end.

Maybe it has something to do with this?

Even though I'm not mining it still shows the last GH reported, since sometimes MacMiner continues to show my GH even though it is stopped.. When hit start (it was black and enabled) all the buttons turn grey and does not go through to MacMiner. Now if MacMiner is running the buttons work. I am not a programmer of any sort so I have no clue what this means lol.

FOUND SOMETHING! Do you have the Restart and Stop programmed backwards? When I hit restart MacMiner stops, and when I hit stop, it restarts! If I hit restart, it will stop, and then and only then will Start actually start. My guess is once the buttons are straight it might not "confuse" itself.

Like I said earlier, the auto start feature would solve all my problems, because MobileMiner will at least control from that point... So by no means go out of your way just to figure out 3 buttons on an otherwise flawless miner you have built. Best I've used so far!
