Thanks I like the new rules cannot be gamed Smiley.  Thanks for throwing a contest.
9803  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: SFARDS: “Speaking IMHO”- The Best Miner is…contest, 1 BTC for winner! on: May 11, 2015, 06:52:41 AM
The most market appealing entry:

I am an accountant at heart counting my debits and credits, my ideal miner brings ROI back using lower electricity and packing more of a punch.  One that is fairly priced, and not made to break customers pocket books.  It's makers realize the hard mining conditions for today's miners and price it with a price that is fair for both miner and the miner makers.   And one that brings new tech to the table, something that makes electricity ratio much less.  A chip that is versatile and lets me underclock in my normal conditions and run on as low of electricity as possible.  But in those special times I need it I can overclock it to a significant amount without the miner stressing a bit.   A miner that is so great not only miners want to buy it, other manufactures want to copy it!

This seems to crazy to be true.  What would ultimate goal be?  They could follow me for weeks and be bored to tears.

"Subject appears to be watching netflix".... "Subject still is watching netflix"...

But I guess I'm not important my state did not make the map.
9805  Other / Meta / Re: Ways to reduce spambots? on: May 11, 2015, 05:31:36 AM
Hello! Recently I saw many spams from spambots. Bot registrations are high. I think we can reduce it by limiting number of registrations per IP per day and by putting captcha when registering. I know both can be bypassed but I think it can reduce spambots. Any idea and/or suggestions are welcome!

When you have a large forum like this it is nearly impossoble to eliminate all spam bots.. people will always find ways.
I think it boils down to maybe having more moderators patrolling different sub forums and looking for spam bot garbage.
Then maybe go about banning the IP's of those doing such activity and then go on from there.

I could see this being harder then we think on banning.  We think about easy to do IP range.  But I believe China still has to go through a vpn/other methods I believe. ( http://www.blockedinchina.net/?siteurl=https%3A%2F%2Fbitcointalk.org%2F )

So I do not envy the moderators on looking by IP with forums big base I would imagine quite a few are using some common IP's to get through. But I could be completely wrong I have no numbers to back it up.
9806  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Summer Mining - Fans/Other summer equipment on: May 11, 2015, 05:27:07 AM
I'm still shopping around looking at gable fan's.  I think I can get air moving a lot more then I have at ceiling height.  I'm looking at gable fan's around 3000 CFM to get around 2.5-3x more CFM then current one.

Still shopping around might see if any local hardware stores have coupons.  I don't have any good ones.  On the two big ones I got 50 off 250 so a good coupon.  Nothing like that so far.  I'm all for a good deal Smiley

So So So...Sorry guys, we just find some bugs in our contest, such as someone delete the reply and the floor number will change at once, and we cannot calculate the specific reward correctly. And our new rule haven't determine, we will publish the new rules as soon as possible. Sorry for our mistake and thank you for your participate. For the following people, @notlist3d, @philipma1957, @Zich, we will still send you our general reward 1000 dogecoins no matter you attend our new contest or not.

The link of the new rules will be updated here later.

Not a problem it's sad but in real world some might exploit that.  Best of luck with new rules.   And thank you for dodge coins.
9808  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Block split - 25 - 12.5 on: May 11, 2015, 05:10:43 AM
I agree that there will be rise in price at the halving. And I'm not saying this following example will happen, but it could easily.

Example: The price may go down to $175 or so again (that already happened this year so far) or lower, and the price could then rise to $200 at the time of the halving, which even though it went up, it's actually down from now.

Personally, I'm not that pessimistic. I think the price will go up more in the future, but no one knows for sure, and it's just as easy the example above would happen instead.

It's a little more complicated than that - but in order for miners to remain profitable they would require the price to go up (i.e. they would only sell at a higher price). This would tend to create a scenario where you only see trades at higher prices and therefore would expect higher prices. However, if for some reason there is little demand, and the price falls/stagnates you would instead see that some miners would turn off their mining operations as it is no longer profitable - thereby reaching an equilibrium.
I am going to go out on a limb and say that the miners account for a pretty small share of the amount of bitcoin traded on exchanges so the "fact" that miners do not want to "sell at low prices" is not going to prevent the price of bitcoin from trading at a "low" price

I don't know if i agree completely. Yes pools do get some miners fee's etc.  But even the big mining corporations have to sell on a exchange or direct to pay their bills.   Large corporations and a lot of home I see at least electricity amount of BTC being sold.   Which is a lot of btc with the big companies out there.
9809  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: sample chip is available [Updated 04/05/15] on: May 11, 2015, 04:55:59 AM
yeah they can take my ideas  and use them I don't mind not winning .

And I'm not worried about that I know you of all people would not cheat.   You are one of the few people who have my trust Smiley So you jumping to 450 instead of me is not a big deal.  That is if contest is still on.

Oh well guess got me to think. Guess we will find out later what happened.

.....
*Someone deleted a post and mine went from 450 to 449.  This contest might be more interesting to watch then I thought.  The whole system can be played by someone who has posted earlier in post.  With it being  philipma1957 in 450 now I know he would not do it, but someone did.   Looks like it was contest post weird contest post taken down.

I post this not mad about moving up a slot, but in a effort for a new system to be found that cannot be played by deleting of posts. If someone in middle of posts deletes old post we have no reference of what caused it.

It's OP, the contest announcement is gone   Huh

Not sure post sure is gone about contest.   Maybe launched early?  It mentioned winner got a miner I thought was weird as we have not seen one... so maybe was meant to be launched with miner whenever that is.
9811  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: Any ways to get free bits.. on: May 11, 2015, 04:38:33 AM
if you dont like faucets then get a fkn job and buy some bitcoin lmao

At least he has realized faucets are a waste I guess.

But no you will not get rich quick with BTC.  With no investment you will not gain a lot right now.   You can start a signature campaign and get more then faucets pay, but don't expect much till full member.   And do not spam.  Have something to make your post relevant when doing a campaign.  Some posts are crap posts.

okay... as quoted your comment red..,i had never said in any of my posts that i want quick bits to get "RICH"
as concerned with signature campaign,i am exploring what it is ,how it is formulated..blah,blah..
thanks anyways for your reply.. Cool

It was not meant as a insult if you took it as that and is reason for red.  I just was explaining that as some see BTC as a get rich quick scheme.  And it is far from it.   As you have learned faucets make cent's per day.

Is this one per person on entry? Or can we do multiple with the multiple prize most creative, most controversial, appealing design?  Each just seems like different ideas to me.

9814  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Long-Term Difficulty Speculation Thread on: May 11, 2015, 04:10:14 AM

why not if you would be using  a spot space heater anyway.

Main reason for me is I have a propane house heater.  But this winter I sure cut a lot of the winter heating bill with mining.....

In my home I need to run a spot heater on really cold days in my guest bedroom.
Last 2 years we had a lot of cold weather.
So I run miners in that room.
It is 500 to 1000 watts.
So for me Some mining  is going to happen in house.
But I think I will never run 11 sp20's  3 avalon 4.1 and 1 s-5 like I did last winter.

I'm still hanging on to mining as long as I can.  I'm honestly scared of next halving.  But until then I will keep mining.

Propane is amazing if power ever goes down.   It was already installed when I started to live in family farm house, so was not much of a option.   But it is going to suck when I need to pay a company to come out and refill my tank.  It is cheaper in summer normally... still not cheap to do though.
9815  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Cant SSH into s4 on: May 11, 2015, 04:06:20 AM
definetly not a port issue, i have 4 s4 miners i can ssh into 3 of them just fine including 5 s3 miners
That's quite curious.  It definitely wouldn't be a port issue if your actually getting a password prompt and being told what your entering is invalid.  My guess would be that the password has been changed from default but that should have been fixed when you did your first factory reset if that where the case.  Quite puzzling.

If a factory reset does not do it I would try firmware.  Try a newer firmware and don't check keep settings.  It should go back on ssh when doing this. (Firmware updates can go wrong if loss of power, etc, etc).   But I think firmware is what to look at.

Heck you could clone one of the sd cards on the working ones, change ip after.  And that would for sure do it and would keep settings.
9816  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 2020 years profitable in mining on: May 11, 2015, 04:03:33 AM
example.

2020 years that will be btc price and difficult same what is nowadays will be same profitable if more low profitable will be ?

Mining will likely retain the same profitability virtually forever.   When price goes down, less people mine and difficulty goes down to meet this.    If price goes up, people jump on board and diff goes up.   It is too competitive of a market at this point.    Even when no more coins are "mined", the theory is that BTC will be valued high enough that the transaction fees alone will make it worth mining.

BTC is really really young as far as what it is.  We have yet to see a lot of it's potential.  The top quote from toqchista2 was one of his many spam's if you read it mentions same difficulty... but we should stop quoting that.

We really don't even know what will happen at next having with price, home miners, etc.  So there is no feasible way we can have a good idea of what year 2020 holds for BTC.
9817  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Decentralization of mining is returning ... thoughts on 21 inc secret plans? on: May 11, 2015, 03:59:38 AM
Coffee warmer.
Hot water warmers built into water coolers.
USB miner with Bitcoin Core node.

Something that is cheap / zero cost as an addition to existing products. Also looking at integrating the Bitcoin Core into these devices might be a great opportunity to secure the network.

It has to be lower power, cheap and accessible / needed by millions.

But do you honestly think any of the big manufactures will do this? Justify even if it was a dollar per x item. I think until more acceptance its a pipedream.

I would love it though really would.  Just don't expect it soon.

Who says a BIG fabricator is going to do this?

Again you have to think about the how you can build cheap accessible mining that is full integrated into consumer products potentially or serves a real human need. It could be retrofits to existing consumer products. Hacktivist type stuff right?

Heating.

Cooking.

Ahhh ok yea I completly agree on Hacktivist type homeowners doing it their self.   More advanced ways to use heat.

Water cooling has hardly been touched as far as what people can do with it.   Lots of mods right there.

I guess if we look at it this way instead of big companies making it, nothing stops a lot of them from happening now.  Thanks for post it did get me to think different  way for this to go.

9819  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Why don't they make miners with swappable chips? on: May 11, 2015, 03:50:29 AM
I would like to see this idea come to life in the near future..

I would to but it will not happen.  Companies have a hard time making upgrade kits, they are not as easy as they sound.  Making a new miner is easier and requires in most cases no putting together.

I don't really expect to see swappable chips anytime.  Upgrade kits... possibly depending on miner and company.  All depends on if its worth their time.
9820  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer or PSU issue? on: May 11, 2015, 03:48:24 AM
Hey all! Thanks for the information. It was a really cheap PSU... Insignia NS-PCW4050 I have 1 for each S3 miner I have... unfortunately they trip off... I am in the process of changing frequency speed... I did purchase a new 1000 PSU from Amazon that looks like it has some pretty good review... I got a Rosewill RBR1000-M 1000-Watt Bronze Series 80. It arrives tomorrow, it seems pretty nice. There were good reviews on it.

PSU's are honestly a investment you will use them for multiple generations if you pick a nice one.  Some of the low quality ones are even scary to mine with.  The worst use cheap guage wire to split pci-e cables.

If you split a pci-e with cheap guage wire.... and use on a miner you get melting possibly flames.

And if you get a nice psu keep the box and all you can sell it if ever comes to that.  PSU's not a whole lot really changes on.  A nice PSU this year will be a nice PSU next year.  Only advancement I have seen is some more that can hook up to a computer and give some readings.  But that in no way is needed.
