Is there any news about monero latest exploit Huh https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/5ptm2y/security_avisory_common_exploit_in_monero_miners/

i wonder what this means to monero future with all the botnet in the wild which might be affected by this exploit Huh  i wonder if this was intentional exploit right from the start to undermine monero's anonimity Huh

and... back to topic, what would monero do to fix this exploit ? assuming that botnet miner which affected by this could do 51% attack on the network Huh  should monero change algo ? anyone?
Quote
If you only own Monero - don't panic. The attack has nothing to do with Monero code. It can't be fixed by the Monero devs because they don't write the miners, but even a 51% attacker won't be able to steal your coins. Worst risk for you is disruption to Monero.

If you mine Monero - do panic. Nearly every miner out there is vulnerable. For open source miners 'grep -r 76' will tell you if they are using a magic number to determine the work length. If you see that number, the code likely to be vulnerable.

You can test your miners by connecting to a simulated pool that I set up:

    simpool.xmr-stak.net:3333

The pool is not connected to Monero network - it will just verify that the hash that you sent is correct. Symptoms of a vulnerable miner are rejected shares or disconnects after a share is found.

it's been about a week now ( maybe more ) that i have missed the news in XMR.

i say i missed because i saw only now that is in 3rd position in poloniex and used to be 1st or 2nd.

So something must be out or something... we have a stable price of ~0.013 but in my opinion this should be double by now...

can somebody with simple words explain what happened ?

What happened is everyone like you that didn't make money fast enough bailed. Cheesy

Get ready to dump all moneros here comes the end!!!!
Monero blockchain is declared illegal while alphabay is on heavy investigation from interpol it will exit scam no later than 2 months!!!Its time for huge dump guys let me see some shorters out!!

What? I only see that as being more positive for Monero. They are targeting centralized mixers like bitmixer.io, which also makes Dash masternodes a target.

Exactly. A post history will reveal that harmani21 is a bagholder for another coin and a troll. And this law hasn't been passed in Holland anyway.

Actually, it was Icebreaker who brought this to everyone's attention. Based on his post history he seems to be heavily invested in XMR so I'm not sure what that's about. Maybe he is abandoning ship like Shen?

What kind of Bullshit FUD is this???

9871  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why the world needs Ripple XRP - Whitepaper on: January 21, 2017, 07:27:28 PM
And about that giveaway.. how many of us did you scam out of our personal info with the 400+ page giveaway topic that you guys never paid anyone 1 single coin ?
It said right in the topic "Official"
You made all of us for 400+ pages sign up at Ripple's web site and create a wallet and then come here and post the address and not one fucking guy got a coin and then you simply locked the topic and never mentioned it again.
re the "FACTS" sweety pie Wink
It's been a long time, but my recollection is that the giveaway operated for some time, making hundreds of payouts. I just checked a random sample of the accounts pasted on the page, and all of them had received their giveaway. Sadly, most of them had transferred the XRP given to them to a small number of aggregator accounts. That could mean that they sold their XRP, but more likely I think it indicates that a significant fraction of the giveaway went to scammers. Yes, we screwed up. But our heart was in the right place.

No personal information was needed to participate in the giveaway. All you had to do was paste a ripple address. As a practical matter, most people probably did use our hosted services to create those addresses, but they didn't have to. The javascript code to create a secret and ripple address was public at that time.

You did have to publicly map your user ID to your ripple address. In later giveaways, we used a blinding system that made this mapping impossible. But later we switched to giveaways only to people who had completed KYC with us at first and later partners.

We tried again with several other giveaways. Some of them were moderately successful (as I think that one was) but in all cases, the giveaways were gamed. It turns out it's really hard to get this right. I think we were also more concerned than perhaps we needed to be about the legal risks of sending something that might be money to persons unknown to us. But you have to remember, it was 2013, and all this stuff was still pretty new.

It's absolutely fair to criticize us for the problems these giveaways had. We were totally blindsided by how hard it was.

If you inadequate to the task of distribution then your certainly not up to the task of supporting a global currency.

You have provided the proof yourself.

I don't know why this con is on the first five most capitalised project on coinmarketcap.com, I report came out last week that it is one of the most on secured blockchain project out there, truly I'm not surprise about the result of the report but what do  surprise me is that people are still buying into it.

Because when you create and own all your coins you can make whatever cap you want.
9873  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Does anyone understand how Stratis is related to Bitcoin on: January 21, 2017, 04:42:54 AM
I just read the whitepaper after seeing your question. Looks like an interesting project.

Code:
The Stratis platform will be built on the C# Stratis Bitcoin Full node platform and
framework. The Stratis Bitcoin Full node will be developed on top of the NBitcoin
library,[6] a near-complete port of Bitcoin Core written in C# and .NET by blockchain
developer Nicolas Dorier. There will also be a C++ Wallet and full node version based on
Bitcoin Core, though the majority of nodes on the network will be NStratis (C#) nodes.
NBitcoin is a complete and proven blockchain framework that is already in use, and will
enable accelerated development.
Stages in NStratis development will include:
1. Development of the Stratis Bitcoin Full Node
2. Fork the Stratis Bitcoin Full Node for NStratis
3. Implement the required changes to NStratis and port Elements sidechains to C#.

9874  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best anonymous transactions for a cryptocurrency? on: January 21, 2017, 03:20:57 AM
Well you cannot add z-snarks to your existing blockchain so cross that off and SDC has taken the cryptonote based (which Monero is) ring sigs and put it in their bitcoin based code so really there is only one answer to your question. But there is much more to monero tech than just the ring sigs so you have alot of reading to do.

IOW, your asking the wrong question.

9876  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: January 21, 2017, 02:33:19 AM
i dont know why you guys so worried about other coin  progress Huh

 i thought this is monero's thread ?

so what if Dash reach monero's marketcap, what would you do ? cry some more... fud some more ?
Because that's our competition as well, we should look to their performance and perhaps get something out of it..

Dash is a centralised, self-serving scam.  It's just propped up by pretty good marketing and coordinated moves to further the interests of the Masternode cabal.

It has no real quality, it is not competition. It's just not been unmasked yet.

Dash is not the worry, it helps people who make proper research to realise just how good Monero actually is.

The cream always rises.

Don't forget that when LE decides too dash's chain will unravel like a prom girls... Tongue

Tried mining Z-crash, but then decided to buy in when it started going flat near $45.  Tongue I think she go fly again one day. All the merits of Bitcoin + anonymity done right.

And yet another n00b account trying to create FOMO. Go shill your scamcoin book and lies elsewhere.

ZCRAP is not trustless people, that is all you need to know.

Most secure altcoin at the moment.

Are you nuts or just ignorant? Every trustless coin is more secure.
