Does anyone use livecoin.net? Is it legit? I've done a few hours googleing but I get contradictory info on the use of Visa for purchasing.

Nevermind, they don't.

Was going to open an account until I read the all the SCAM accusations.
9883  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: January 17, 2017, 05:00:23 AM
@LennyCarl - don't take any 'predictions' you see here as in any way accurate or reliable -- especially mine.  I try my best looking at the chart and using the TA knowledge I've picked up over the last 4 years of doing this.  But the landscape changes so quickly (the events coming out of China this last week or so is a good example) and crypto prices are hyper-sensitive to sentiment and/or news.

But be especially wary of those who use these tools and lay claim to expertise - they are really dangerous.

@Febo.  No, I meant USD.  Over the last month XMR smashed through its ATH (when valued against USD) but you'd hardly have noticed if you'd read these pages because it was masked by BTC rise.  Instead we continue to judge alts value against BTC because of bizarre idealogical reasons based on predictions the global economy will collapse any day soon.

A bit like the bloke who wanders through the street claiming the end of the world is nigh, crypto is obsessed with financial Armageddon.  I've been on these boards for four years now and the end of days is always being predicted (given traditional financial markets move in seven year cycles there's never a crisis too far away.)

And of course the ultimate contradiction is that BTC is constantly valued against the USD.  Traditional currencies may well be used and abused but I don't see why they are a good enough benchmark for BTC but not for XMR.

Anyone that has any understanding of the real world knows USD will be here far longer than we will. The largest military presence the world has ever know backs USD, It's pretty damn safe. The guy with the biggest stick makes the rules no matter how civilized we want to think we are.

Don't worry - in the end the cream always rises....

this
dont get sucked in by the fud. The shorters took the opportunity of MyMonero being down and general ignorance around the ring ct fork to create negativity. Polo trollbox full of 'fake news' all weekend, dash trolls and who else with an agenda - all on board the fud train. Worst I saw some group claiming that a bug was transferring the transaction amount as fees which are lost to the miners. Which we all know is bullshit. I certainly do, as I have done a number of successful  transactions since the fork with no issues (via cli btw) Let the ones who's cage can be rattled by this sell their coins. They will be crying soon enough. For crying out loud we were breaking thru 0.007 a month ago or so...crypto is like a bunch of toddlers and completely devoid of rational thought from so many. Funny really. Take it as the opportunity it is. As the German say: who laughs last laughs the hardest. That will be us.
ERMEHGERD BUTTHUURRTTT

Just ignore this Zcrap troll. That shit will be history soon enough.

Xmr is still in my opinion the best privacy coin, followed by SDC

DASH is flawed and zcash is a scam (imo)

We may retrace a bit for now  but I think $50 by the summer is realistic so stay calm and hodl  Cool

You forgot about ZCoin.

BTW nobody forgot about it, it just doesn't even rate enough to be on the horizon. Hope your bag is doing well. Smiley

Deleted for using red....

LOL, smooth... funny

Or, wait: is that really a rule??

Self proclaimed rule of one single self-righteous keyboard warrior maybe, not that anyone gives one single damn, anyway Smiley

Self-moderated thread for discussion of Monero trading and price speculation.

Off topic posts will be removed. Off topic includes any extensive discussion of other coins, promoting other coins, or posting of promotional materials from other coins.

Non-substantive comments such as Monero sucks, Monero is a scam, Monero is great, Monero to the moon, etc. are considered off topic. Every post and reply should add to the discussion. The preceding sentence forbids repetitive exchanges on the same topic without some topical context.

Hostile trolling (which includes but is not limited to use of "meme" pictures to attack or demean) especially by sock puppet accounts is not allowed.

When quoting posts, please remove any large charts or other images unless the quoted post is at least one page old. Please shrink (or remove) large images in replies in all cases.

When I am speaking as the moderator, and only then, I will write in red. Other messages using red text are not permitted.

People speculating on Monero may also be interested in the MoneroMarkets subreddit (unaffiliated)

Don't like the rules then don't use the thread. It's customary to read the OP before posting in a thread isn't it?
9890  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bytecoin Deep Sleep (This Is A Question) on: January 14, 2017, 12:10:05 AM
Steer clear. Google for "bytecoin scam" and read the first link.

If you want Cryptonote technology go with XMR or (AEON or BBR) none of which have the 80% pre-mined feature that BCN comes with.

Oh man, it's the only currency I can mine a great deal of Sad I am so disappointed.

1 Million times 0 is still zero. Wink

I agree if you want to mine alot and hold then go for Aeon otherwise mine whats profitable and sell for XMR.
9891  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] <redacted> (seeking opinions) on: January 13, 2017, 08:56:21 PM
I there something wrong with USDT?

Seriously I would like to know.

Okay, how the fuck you did that ...

https://coinmarketcap.com/assets/tether/ (real screenshot; red arrow mine)

Looks like the market cap is heading in the right direction. I don't know how to check if the assets to back the token are actually there or not. The site claims it is but I see no way to check except for the number they provide and the day I trust a site's numbers on own it's own statements is the day I jump off a cliff.

I've seen nothing from polo to make me concerned though.

9893  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple and bitshares rated the most insecure blockchain software by China CERT on: January 13, 2017, 03:26:20 AM
We now have an official response to this report at https://ripple.com/dev-blog/response-china-cert-report/

"Again, Ripple recognizes the importance of security researchers, and we take any reports of security vulnerabilities very seriously. At this time, we do not feel confident in the accuracy of the CERT report and further, and based on the way in which the report was published, we question the legitimacy of the reporting body. We are confident in our processes and our codebase, and expressly state that this report identifies no actionable items and our review, in response to it, found none either."

Looks like their response is the illiterate one of the two. Fixed that first one for them. And further, am not touching that last sentence. Tongue

9895  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero wallet? on: January 13, 2017, 03:12:57 AM
The problem with Monero wallets is that as far as I am aware there is no SPV wallets because there are massive technical hindrances to this.
At this point I am not sure if developers already figured out a a way to create some sort of SPV framework that doesn't compromise your privacy.
Also current hard fork is not helping, some wallets, i.e. Light Wallet will stop working after the fork.
I guess the best option is Monero Core...

The fork was Tuesday and LightWallet did indeed stop working. The developer recommended using the official GUI. MyMonero is down for updates needed after the fork. The Jaxx wallet guys claim they have Monero finished and will roll it out in a few weeks.

I'll believe it when I see it and maybe not even then. Smiley

9897  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BTER.com hacked| 7170 BTC stolen | DON'T KEEP YOUR MONEY ON AN EXCHANGE | on: January 13, 2017, 01:31:32 AM
I've been paid back 0.0112 BTC of a total 0.1150 BTC loss. As far as I can remember, there's only been one payment, and it would have been more than a year ago.

So they've started paying back, but very very slowly. Sad

Looks to me like they made one small payment in hopes it would increase volume and when it didn't they just stopped and left the site up with no support or oversight. The real scam is the fake volume that lures people in and from what I read the high withdrawel cost when those ppeople find out they cannot trade

The withdrawal fee for Bitcoin (and Litecoin as well if I'm correct) remains the same as before the hack and equals 100k satoshi. In respect to other coins, they are now giving 1% bonus on deposits (at least for dogecoins). It doesn't matter whether your trades were profitable or not, they are still taking away the same percentage on withdrawals of these coins. I don't quite understand the logic behind this novelty, but I can say with certainty that it didn't help them. It could make sense for arbitrage if there were active trading at this exchange...

But since there is no active trading by any meaningful measure, it doesn't really matter

The daily exchanged volume is around 300 BTC which is not low, * 0.2% = 0.6BTC on fees daily.
They don't want to pay us because if they wanted they could pay us on small amounts.
About the 1% bonus I have written a post last year which is pure stealing money from their users.

I don't think there is one person that has been around for more than a week that believes this.

I think for most of us it's just an auto ignore. Smiley
9899  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: January 11, 2017, 07:51:11 PM
Check XMR/USDT in Poloniex and compare it with BTC/USD. It is beginning to appear that Monero is following bitcoin's price. Are we seeing XMR becoming the real silver to bitcoin's gold? Some say what about litecoin? Litecoin is a 200+ million market cap of nothing.

thats actually interresting, why is litecoin having a 200m marketcap? why do people buy litecoin? i bought because of a "maybe" situation but ive been holding for 4 years now, afaik nothing happening that i should get excited about

When there were still no fiat/XMR exchanges, I was considering using LTC to get in and out of XMR, since the BTC network was so congested. But I guess the need for that has passed.

Bitfinex and Kraken are both accepting Monero as a method of payment for fiat money.

Don't trust Bitfinex and Kraken collects more info than coinbase and only offers EFT which makes it worthless for most our needs.

Couldn't think of a better way to celebrate other than place an order for 1337 moneros earlier  Cool

Very nice. Smiley

Im actually surprised RingCT hasn't had any effect on price, but I'm in for long-term investment anyways.
I could definitely see a price of $50 to $100 in a few years from now which would be a great return on your investment, even if you bought today.
If Bitcoin can hit $1000 I don't see any reason that coins like Monero and Ethereum couldn't hit that price point.

IMHO, the RingCT feature is already probably price-in.

I agree that it's already priced in and that is a side effect of the dependability of the devs and scientists.

We have so much faith in their ability that we all had already  taken it as a given.
9900  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CoinDesk article: Is the 'Zcrash' Over? Zcash's Price is Finding a Floor at $50 on: January 11, 2017, 07:11:34 PM
And why would they do that? Zcash is a BTC clone, with an added ZK-snark sidechain. Bitcoin will add Zcash's tech as its own sidechain and Zcash will die. The only purpose Zcash serves is to fund the development of zero knowledge tech. It won't retain value long term.

ZCash is useless, bitcoin now has tumblebit technology, which will destroy all anon alts, bitcoin will have anon feature too

This just highlights your complete lack of understanding of fungibility.
