Putin is a joke. Power hungry bully.

This divisive "patriotism" bullshit only helps the gas and oil giants.

The problem with Putin ideology is that he won't just hurt US, but Russia itself. 200 Billion. It will tank other economies like the Chinese. The Chinese won't be happy at that point. Let face it, we are all interconnected now. No matter its rubbles, USD, or the RMB. We are all interconnected and have too much to lose.

Russia needs to sell that oil and gas. What are you going to do with stock pile of it? for what? The United States has enough reserves to last them more than Putin's lifetime. So then what?

Use bitcoins?  Wink

A Venezuelan soldier and a motorcyclist died in a confused melee sparked by the opposition’s barricading of a Caracas street, officials said on Thursday, boosting the death toll from nearly a month of violence to 20.

Demonstrators have for weeks staged rallies and set up barricades to demand the resignation of President Nicolas Maduro, leading to clashes with security forces and government supporters. [...]

Maduro on Wednesday cut ties with Panama on charges the country’s president was conspiring with the United States to intervene in Venezuela’s affairs. During a rally on Thursday he gave the Panamanian ambassador and three other diplomats in Venezuela 48 hours to leave the country.

The rally also included Hollywood actor Danny Glover, a long time supporter of Venezuela’s revival of socialism who met with Maduro as part of Wednesday’s first anniversary of Chavez’s death.

“I’m very proud to be here with you as we commemorate and celebrate a true man of the people, Hugo Chavez; his memory lives with us,” Glover told a crowd of government supporters clad in signature red T-shirts.

A Venezuelan television network on Wednesday premiered U.S. filmmaker Oliver Stone’s documentary called “My Friend Hugo.”

The protests have been a mix of peaceful demonstrations by student leaders and violent exchanges between security forces and hooded protesters hurling rocks and Molotov cocktails.

9925  Other / Politics & Society / Obama National Field Director Uses Death Of His Baby To Push Obamacare on: March 07, 2014, 07:36:45 AM
"During this time, we have been so grateful for the great healthcare we received and for our insurance that has allowed us to get that care without ever asking if we could afford it."

Obama National Field Director Jeremy Bird and his partner, Betsey Hoover, just went through a tragic loss — the pre-mature birth of their baby boy Elijah, and his death only a few hours later. Now Bird is using the terrible experience to help push Obamacare.

In a long post on Jeremy’s Facebook page, he narrates the heartbreaking journey:

“Two weeks ago, after our 20-week ultrasound, Betsy Hoover and I decided to tell the world we were having a baby boy. The response from our community was overwhelming.

A week and a half later, our joy suddenly turned to sorrow.  On Tuesday, February 25, at 4:13 pm, after a week-long, intense battle with a ruptured appendix, Betsy gave pre-term birth to a beautiful little baby boy.

He really was beautiful. He had his dad’s nose, his mom’s mouth and even a little bit of hair. He was 11 inches long and weighed one pound, one ounce. He was precious, innocent, remarkable. [...]

“During this time, we have been so grateful for the great healthcare we received and for our insurance that has allowed us to get that care without ever asking if we could afford it.

Enroll America is doing the important work necessary to get Americans enrolled. If you are looking for a way to show your support, we ask that you donate in our names and in the name of our son, Elijah.”

Good to know that he's alive... but also bad to know that he's still active as that means 1,000,000 BTC are not gone forever...

So basically it is bad news for you to know he is still alive for your money. One thing Satoshi will never change is how people are, really.
9927  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If you're the real Satoshi Nakamoto, please post a signed message. on: March 07, 2014, 02:24:06 AM
I'm not going to believe that's him until it's proven empirically.

Come on people, do you believe everything you read on the internet?

9928  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto's P2P foundation profile makes a reply on: March 07, 2014, 02:19:08 AM
I KNEW I WAS RIGHT!

Yes that was the important part.  Not the fact that none of Satoshi's accounts have been active for more than two years and there was a post by one of them in the last thirty minutes.

Well after some idiot was spreading FUD in another thread and trash-talking me for being right, sure I can say that.

One thing to add. The search parameters have been narrowed, we know the location, we can find him now if need be. I suggest Satoshi to anonymize ASAP.

A naive question: can't that internet California location be spoofed?

If this is not the guy then maybe the real Satoshi will came out of his cave just to save him. Maybe that's the whole master plan..

If the real Satoshi is still hiding.. Please stay hidden forever. If it is satoshi then it does not matter.

Well, if it is really him at least it'll get him out of his shell. I predict a 6 month Vegas residency will be signed and sealed before the end of the month.

If this guy is a Rain man type. How can more exposure make him happier? He should be on suicide watch, not going to trip to Vegas for 6 months..

9934  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Think Progress believes Bitcoin is racist... on: March 05, 2014, 10:22:44 PM

Every once in a while — most recently with the collapse of online exchange site Mt Gox — the world starts paying attention to Bitcoin, the hacker-project-cum-digital-currency that has garnered the love of a certain subset of people on the internet. Who are those people? According to an online poll from Simulacrum, the average user is a 32.1-year-old libertarian male. By users’ accounts, those men are mostly white.

Breaking that down, about 95 percent of Bitcoin users are men, about 61 percent say they’re not religious, and about 44 percent describe themselves as “libertarian / anarcho-capitalist.” On the last point, the political ideology of Bitcoin users is evident from the fact that the whole idea behind Bitcoin is that it segregates economic markets and currency from a country’s government. Bitcoin aims to be a universal currency, connecting people “peer-to-peer” instead of through set institutions. It wants to replace our current economic system and practices in their entirety — changing the way we buy goods and distribute money. The libertarians, or anarcho-capitalists as the case may be, don’t trust the government to handle their money. They’re the same people who want to “end the fed.”

Those libertarian tendencies are generally held by white men. “Compared to the general population,” an American Values survey reported last year, “libertarians are significantly more likely to be non-Hispanic white, male, and young.” Specifically, 94 percent are white, and 68 percent are men.

Why does Bitcoin specifically have this demographic makeup? Well, there’s a fair amount of privilege built directly into the currency: In order to buy the sometimes wildly expensive currency, Bitcoin users need to be wealthy. And they can afford to put their wealth into a currency that isn’t widely accepted or even recognized. Plus, they move easily through the financial and digital space — the process of “mining” bitcoins demands it; it is all about knowing coding and decryption and how to use an exchange. The sum total of these things — advanced knowledge of computer science, wealth — are also markings of the young, white male.

Accurate re-write

Libertarians have above average skill and honest income, so Bitcoin is currently attracting them in large numbers.

9935  Other / Politics & Society / Venezuela breaks diplomatic relations with Panama, citing conspiracy on: March 05, 2014, 10:19:46 PM

The government of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced that it was breaking diplomatic and commercial ties with Panama on Wednesday, citing the Central American country's complicity in a "conspiracy."

In strongly worded comments during a commemoration event on the anniversary of the death of the country’s late president, Hugo Chavez, Maduro derided Panama’s leadership.

"We're not going to let anyone get away with interfering with our fatherland, you despicable lackey, president of Panama,” said Maduro.

9936  Other / Politics & Society / Could Playing with Barbies Limit Girls' Career Choices? Study on: March 05, 2014, 10:03:22 PM
Researchers from Oregon State University discovered that girls who play with Barbie dolls may see fewer career options for themselves than boys.

"Playing with Barbie has an effect on girls' ideas about their place in the world," said Aurora M. Sherman, an associate professor in the School of Psychological Science at OSU, via a press release. "It creates a limit on the sense of what's possible for their future. While it's not a massive effect, it is a measurable and statistically significant effect."
The study notes that Sherman's experiment was designed to better understand how Barbie might influence girl's career choices. As much of the past research involving Barbie has been primarily observational studies with children and toys in natural settings, this experiment worked with specific toy control variables in which the children involved were allowed to play with.
The experiment involved girls from the ages of 4 to 7 who were randomly assigned to play with one of three dolls: a fashion Barbie with dress and high-heeled shoes; a career Barbie with a doctor's coat and stethoscope; or a Mrs. Potato Head with accessories such as purses and shoes. Researchers used the Mrs. Potato Head doll as a neutral choice as it does not carry any sexualized characteristics, as Barbie does.
After a few minutes of plays, the girls were asked if they could do any of 10 occupations when they grew up. They were also asked if boys could do those jobs, half of which were traditionally male or female-dominated.
Findings showed that girls who played with the Barbie felt that they could do fewer jobs than those who played with the Mrs. Potato Head, who reported close to the same number of possible careers as the boys.
Girls who played with barbies dressed in different career outfits-including a doctor's uniform or party outfit-also showed no difference in choosing more career choices.
Researchers concluded that certain toys, including dolls or action figures, can influence a child's ideas regarding their future career path. However, more research is needed to better understand this complexity.

9937  Other / Politics & Society / Vladimir Putin nominated for Nobel Peace Prize on: March 05, 2014, 07:32:40 PM

Russian President Vladimir Putin has been nominated for the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize — but the conflict in Ukraine is also likely to be on the Nobel committee’s agenda.

A record 278 candidates, including 47 organizations, received nominations for the 2014 prize, said the Norwegian Nobel Institute’s director, Geir Lundestad.

Committee members who met on Tuesday added their own proposals with a focus on recent turmoil around the globe.
“Part of the purpose of the committee’s first meeting is to take into account recent events, and committee members try to anticipate what could be the potential developments in political hotspots,” Lundestad said.

Yeah...no. Bitcoin is used by computer nerds. Computer nerds are mostly while males. Here, they just happen to be libertarian computer nerds, or computer nerds whom Bitcoin converted to libertarianism (like me). I think it's computer nerds who are racist  Grin

Most computer's skin color is white or of a beige descent. Apple tried to hide this tragic statistic in the past with their Black Macbook and now their latest Mini Babel's Tower of Perdition called the Mac Pro. But people like the lady from ThinkProgress won't be fooled again! Oh Noes!

Nerd's tools are racist.
9939  Other / Politics & Society / Chipotle pulling guacamole due to climate change? Have no fear on: March 05, 2014, 06:17:05 PM
Chipotle stirred up the media and guacamole lovers with news that it could "suspend" guacamole from its menu due to global warming.
But a restaurant spokesman tells the Los Angeles Times: "This is way overblown."
The annual report from the restaurant chain warned:
"Increasing weather volatility or other long-term changes in global weather patterns, including any changes associated with global climate change, could have a significant impact on the price or availability of some of our ingredients. ...
"In the event of cost increases with respect to one or more of our raw ingredients, we may choose to temporarily suspend serving menu items, such as guacamole or one or more of our salsas, rather than paying the increased cost for the ingredients."

Chipotle's Chris Arnold told the L.A. Times on Wednesday morning that the disclosure was routine: "As a public company ... we are required to disclose any potential issues that could have potential impact on our business, and we do that very thoroughly."
So far, Chipotle is handling weather-related problems with ingredients just fine.
As NPR points out, avocados seem to be in plentiful supply despite vagaries of climate change that resulted in "lemon-sized" Hass avocados.
"The sky is not falling," Arnold said. "We have guac in all of our restaurants."
