answer my comment-I don't think that you can.

investigation showed the connector had come away from the board. Now the holding plate is a good idea ... but there were a lot of screws to remove just to plug it back in!

I think Bitmain needs to have a talk with some of his assemblers-it looks like 1-2 connectors are not firmly attached (until it clicks!) in almost every machine. Mine had two totally out.
A minor thing, but as you said-you have to unscrew a bunch of screws and also move some board to get to the pesky connectors.
9943  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: June 15, 2014, 12:34:34 AM
However if you like KNC simply make someone else pay for your NRE costs it made a lot more sense to jump directly to 20 vs 28nm.

Rogaz, sometimes you say something that encourages me to think you are a knowledgeable and insightful guy (forgive me if you are a girl)  and sometimes you say something really stupid.

KNC didn't make anybody pay for their NRE costs. People voluntarily entered into contracts for future delivery of a product (aka pre-order). This is no different that what Spondoolies is doing with the SP30.

Given the economics of bitcoin mining and the difficulty in raising finance for bitcoin related activities from conventional sources, it is often the only way to go. Like Guy said in the Spondoolies thread IIRC … 'we don't have 27 million dollars to finance 3 SP30 batches.'

No pre-orders, no SP30, no Neptune, no progress. There is a race on with bitcoin difficulty and there is no time to tinker around …

~L)L~

I think that you intentionally distort the comparison here. Spondoolies ALMOST have the Sp-30, they are 30-45 days away (maybe even closer) while KnC collected the pre-orders in November and still did not deliver until late June (at best), which is full seven months later. In addition, KnC played a clever mindtrick by saying that first batch will be delivered in Q1/Q2 (in some older documents or comments they even said spring). Calling this a possible Q1 product was an exaggeration because they certainly knew that it will NOT be done in Q1. I also find it appalling that they keep making these legalese tricks-like we are not consumers, for example to get from under the consumer protection in EU law.
Whatever they will come up with-good for them, but I will not play the game on these terms.

These laws do not apply if you are not running a btc business, but i am so I have to report any 600 usd  of btc  transfer.

Finally, I got it, before that number of $600 that you cite was a complete mystery.
I know that any business that pays a person more than $600 in one tax year has to give out form 1099, but that's all. I was not sure that purchasing something qualifies as well.
Such purchase does qualify as expense on a yearly tax report, but that's trivial.
I am not sure what exactly you gain by NOT having your RK-box booked as an expense which could be used to offset the revenue, but i am not a tax expert.

Finaly go back to ghash.io
On eligius.st, i have to wait 13 blocks found to be paid, so about 2 days.
On BTC guild, i have to pay fee.
On ghash.io, i'm instantly paid with no fee.
This explain why everybody [who cannot see a forest behind the trees] mine on ghash.io !

enjoy $650 to $560 trip for your BTC, courtesy of ghash controversy...
9946  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: June 14, 2014, 03:11:56 PM
The cost/transistor for 20nm will most likely drop below 28nm in 6-12months time and then KNC will have an advantage over the competitors who still are stuck on 28nm as long as they can match them on efficiency/density.

They will not have any advantage because they were never interested in designing the most efficient machine, they were interested in taking money for pre-orders to do OTHER projects (aka datorhall).
9947  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - Best W/GH/s ratio, Best $/GH/s ratio on: June 13, 2014, 10:39:56 PM
Hello my friend, I've missed you. Is it too boring at one of AM threads ?

None of those companies can match the price point of SP30 with current gen and Q3 planned hardware.

It has already been done.

http://shop.rockminer.com/goods.php?id=34

2880gh for 4btc.
I see a render, not a product.  I also see 2.4TH/s, not 2.88.  Oh, and it'll need 2880 watts (maybe you swapped the hash rate / power consumption).  2 of these things still won't get you the equivalent of 1 SP30 hashing rate.  Oh, and price.  8BTC for 2, no PSUs included, which puts it more expensive than the SP30 for less hashing.

Might want to reconsider the "It has already been done" statement.

Not to argue one side over other, but as of right now one Sp-30=12.72-13.64 RK-boxes (at $7500-8000 plus $600 PSU plus $500 Rpi=total of $8600-9100).
So, you pay premium now for sure. i think that Rk-box is overpriced because it is aimed at "home" market. I feel that spondoolies had proven themselves as very able engineers.
Besides, I would probably switch mostly to colocation-too much trouble "hosting' these beasts at home, at least during summer.

My dream for a miner: the one WITHOUT fans. Can it be done with large enough heat sinks?
9949  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain AntMiner S2 Setup [HD] on: June 13, 2014, 07:46:46 PM
Where is the micro SD card located in the S2?  Mine keeps resetting to factory settings after every reboot, so I am going to try a new SD card.

on the BB-middle board: you have to remove #6 or both #6 and #7 board(s) to gain better access; it is very tiny-push it "in" and it pops out.

hence, limited advantage over S1 yet as it is the EXACT same price per same productivity with a small edge going to Rk-box in electricity consumption (~$500 for 5 ants for 3 mo vs ~$274 for 2 Rk-boxes at $0.12/kwh

No advantage if you can get 5XS1 for $240 each

Is saving $250/month on electricity not a significant advantage?

More like $230 per three months for 2Rk-box vs 5XS1, so $38/mo per RK-box or or slightly more than $1/day.
this advantagee disappears if you provision s1 at $240.

All i am saying essentially is that RK-box should be priced wayyyyyy better.
9951  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain AntMiner S2 Setup [HD] on: June 13, 2014, 06:00:39 PM
hi, I have question to S2 users: how much heat does it blow away with it's fans? I've heard it's easy to overclock it even without additional cooling, so it' shouldn't warm up much a small room in standard mode, right?

My 8X12 "mining" room was heating up to 34oC, 92oF with 3 ants and one S2; I had to keep the door open and point the S2 exaust toward the door frame-it helped because at ~35oC s2 will shutdown sometimes. Air conditioner could not cope since it is 100oF outside, so equipment has to go (at least in part). looking forward to heating with miners in the winter and reducing the gas bill  Smiley
9952  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: RK-BOX,450GH/S,480W ,shipping date 25th on: June 13, 2014, 05:49:05 PM
around .9 btc works

hey, you got them this price idea  Smiley. 0.7-0.8 BTC would be better.
Did someone go through the whole ordering process?
Is shipping included in the price?
My understanding that it comes with microSD, but no rasp pi.

2RK-box=5 S1 in productivity
2RK-box=$1044 without pi and PSU, or slightly less than $1600 with.
$200 for 5X500W S1 power supplies plus $280X5=$1600 (the exact same number).

hence, limited advantage over S1 yet as it is the EXACT same price per same productivity with a small edge going to Rk-box in electricity consumption (~$500 for 5 ants for 3 mo vs ~$274 for 2 Rk-boxes at $0.12/kwh
No advantage if you can get 5XS1 for $240 each

I don't see a VAST improvement in price so far
9953  Economy / Speculation / Re: rpietila Wall Observer - the Quality TA Thread ;) on: June 12, 2014, 10:30:03 PM

oh man, feds are auctioning off the silkroad coins..

Wouldn't this be too funny if this turned out the same way as the SR bust, subsequent "little fast crash" and rocket afterwards back in '13?

Wishful thinking at its worst. The SR bust took coins off the market, this movement returns the same amount. It's exactly the opposite effect. That's why the price rebounded in October: some smart people noticed the bust would increase the value of the floating bitcoins. We are not seeing a rebound now.

Yes, you're probably right, it's way too different a type of event.

However I don't understand how this is bearish news at all. It's not like the buyers of those coins will turn around and dump them on the market? Is it just because the demand will be expected to decrease? Did some entities cancel their "coin buying subscriptions" at bitstamp because he decided to buy some of the sr coins and now the selling from bitpay et al is stronger on stamp with that demand gone?

i think it depends on the method of how the sr coins get sold.
if the price is relative with some % to the market price, it would be smart to crash the market in some way before buying these 30 k coins for more profit/less money.

some hedge funds are frontrunning the gov, as they learned to do EVERY TIME. Don't worry, there will be others who will frontrun the frontrunners in the opposite direction. Too bad it will not be me.
Edit: haha, rebounded like a rubber band from $551 to $585
9954  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - Best W/GH/s ratio, Best $/GH/s ratio on: June 12, 2014, 10:06:31 PM
So, what are we buying until then?

My hand itches too to buy something when the BTC is over 600!

Boom-and it is at $562 (9.6 BTC instead of <8.00)
Edit: $551
9955  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ROCKMINER ASIC miner official thread on: June 12, 2014, 08:46:48 PM
alright now im confused as all hell -_- the rx box is listed at 4000 mbtc but before it was just 4 rocket boxes. so now your saying the rocket boxes only do 450-480 gh/s instead of 600? or is this a different product from the rx-box. another question. do you need the r-pi to run these units?

here's a list of rockminer's products:

http://shop.rockminer.com/

rocket and Rx-box appear to be different

Is rasp pi included or not if purchased from rockminer site? If not, do i have to load software on a microSD card, then buy rasp pi, then what? What cables are needed? USB, ethernet?
I understand that some of us already went through this, but some explanation is in order. For example, rockminer site does not list WHAT is included in order.
Goods description is a basic selling info (included:...., not included, but has to be obtained....)
9956  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ROCKMINER ASIC miner official thread on: June 12, 2014, 08:23:19 PM
And just to clarify - we can purchase starting 6/25 on the website or through distributors like Canary?

We have them available for purchase right now, we should have them shipped to us from rockminer on the 25th.

http://minersource.net/collections/frontpage/products/rockminer-crossbow-440-440gh-bitcoin-miner

If purchased separately from your site, how many boxes Rasp pi can drive-1 or 2?
I would need rasp pi, but I have plenty of power supplies, but this option does not exist.

Fair warning to fellow KNCminers...
Anyone holding BTC should beware that Gox will be liquidating coin soon to pay lawyer fees.
Coinlab backed out, and Japan courts don't like Sunlot's (Brock Pierce & company) offer.
date unknown, but the hearing is set for July 23rd.

How do I know they will be liquidating coin?
Gox doesn't have the cash on hand to pay the fees, and they have entered liquidation proceedings according to Google Hangout and Gox notices.
Being that the only other assets are a car, office furniture, and computer... there's no other option but to sell coin.
There's simply nothing else to "liquidate"
All this smells of coinage sell-off in late July, early August?
Just be careful & ready.....

Thanks, but it is, like 45 days from now for the hearing and who knows what the hearing will decide, but thanks for your suggestion.
Sell off from what level-that is the question. We are significantly below the trend already.

can we have a status update on June batch please? thanks

Didn't you hear the news, they sold all remaining Sp-10 to Taras [LNU].

Biodom, I have an order for 2 SP10 from June batch, i guess you were just too late. that's how it is mucker  Cheesy
a s-t-a-t-u-s update - you perceive this to mean something other than a s-t-a-t-u-s update.

Don't act so butt-hurt about it.

hey, i am hurt about it because i communicated with them on saturday night and was given no indication that I have to do it in BTC that very moment and when I was about to go to the bank on Monday am and was checking the forum-boom, they had sold it.

9960  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Kit, sales price changes daily, now $2127 per Kit on: June 11, 2014, 09:28:15 PM
Well, I do not have one specific out of service blade. It does not matter which 9 blades are inserted. But when I insert all 10 blades the miner turns off. I tested it with different cards which I put aside...

this is a new one...so there is something in the software/hardware that limits power usage so PSU does not burn out?
I cannot fix my problem and your problem does not look fixable as well.

I honestly think that bitmain should have market this as a 0.9TH miner and have ONLY 9 boards plus BB in each. Sometimes I think that one hashing board is too close to BB and its heat might be affecting things. The tricky question is whether to put a board with heaviest or lightest heat sink near the BB. For me heaviest, strangely, worked the best so far.

Have you tried an independent PSU bio?

yes, no difference between EVGA1300 and Enermax-a complete mystery. I think that it is something in BB because I pretty much tried everything else I can think of.
If somebody wants it in US, hashing very stably at ~905-906GH/s with a chance that you will be able to "fix" it-I am open to a fair offer from a person with a history here.
At least you will not overpay for 1Th which could very well be 0.9TH in reality as "edgar" and others can attest.
