9941  Local / Romānă (Romanian) / Re: Guvernul vine! ANAF si DIICOT ii urmaresc pe traderi on: November 11, 2019, 12:47:49 PM

9942  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin $400,000 (?) on: November 10, 2019, 08:27:25 PM
After a nice 2016 at the end of which Bitcoin got to 1000+, 2017 came with 20x pump. (The data is from memory, it may not be 100% accurate.)

I guess that this is expected again.
It's clearly possible. Whether it will actually happen or not, we'll have to live and see.
9943  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Alright, I made it obvious this time on: November 10, 2019, 08:22:05 AM
- Seriously? The article is a summary! It's a 4 minute read!

Seriously. Many won't open a link, especially posted by a newbie.
This is a forum. A place people are discussing. What if instead of answering, people would post a link to their own websites?

So the advice to put a couple words here was a valid one.
And instead of countering such advises, be happy it was not reported and deleted for just posting a link.

So again, add more words there. Quote a little. It's for your interest.
9944  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why is BTC now ~$8,780? Simple... on: November 10, 2019, 08:15:36 AM
What?!! That's it?
Do you mean all those discussion about demands and usage is all bullshit?
Really? I doubt that.  Grin

So what else are we doing here if we cannot even help with the increase in value of bitcoin? We are just puppets of the miners?  Grin
The good thing though is that, you are completely incomplete with what you said.
It lacks the formula of how the price should really be seen.

Of course it's wrong.

The price *should* not go lower than the price price to produce it (but it's not necessarily so).
But what's the price to produce Bitcoin?

Some miners may have already the ROI for equipment. Some miners may have electricity price nearly 0 or may produce their own electricity from renewable sources. What if they already have ROI for that equipment too?
Some miners may hold, some miners may sell at a loss. And some miners may go out of business (or relocate!) because their electricity is too expensive anymore and they have no profit.

And many traders are not miners. There are investors, there are speculators, and the bigger ones may have quite an effect on the price.

So no. OP's equation is oversimplified, hence it's wrong.
9945  Economy / Lending / Re: EMERGENCY 11 Bitcoins Loan needed to save my mom's life!!!!! on: November 08, 2019, 02:16:52 PM
Interesting poll.
Can OP elaborate the relationship between his "mom's dyin" and "You lend me & become a billionaire"?

*sigh* ... and some wonder about the sarcastic or "heartless" responses.
9946  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it possible to fake the BTC blockchain? on: November 08, 2019, 08:51:42 AM
If he has a full wallet, it may work, but that would mean the buyer comes with his laptop (why would he do that if all he needs for checking is a browser which he already have on the smartphone?)
This it the detail I was missing in my description. Of course he has to come with his laptop or with his mobile wallet that doesn't have internet connection.

I meant that people don't really have full wallet on smartphone. On smartphone they'll have a SPV.

And of course he doesn't have to check any other thing than his own full wallet.

Well, Blockchain.com can be faked even easier, after all, but as I said, he will have to know what (websites, servers, ...) to fake, there are too many options.
9947  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it possible to fake the BTC blockchain? on: November 08, 2019, 08:44:21 AM
Is this situation technically possible?

The buyer has to check the transaction. It depends a lot on how he does that. I would check a reputable blockchain explorer.

Let's say that the buyer checks in his own wallet.
If he has a full wallet, it may work, but that would mean the buyer comes with his laptop (why would he do that if all he needs for checking is a browser which he already have on the smartphone?)
If he has a SPV (Electrum, Mycelium), I think that there's a possibility he can have a corresponding (fake) server in his own network. But he will have to know what wallet to expect (to prepare the corresponding server), he will have to have his own custom DNS...

Overall I think that, although possible, it's not viable.
The seller has to know too much info about the buyer to have everything right. And quite some skills to get the buyer into that certain situation. And nowadays people just use the mobile data, there are far too many warnings to avoid using 3rd party WiFi.
9948  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Dust attack donation address for old empty addresses on: November 08, 2019, 07:52:24 AM
Taking this wildly off topic and away from the "lets do good and donate" what exchanges let you deposit such small amounts and trade?

Last time I've done this I deposited to Binance. It was under 1$ worth, it was altcoin, but doesn't think it matters.
However, since I've been already mentioning Binance in my previous post, this one doesn't bring anything. And since you already considered the other post off-topic, I'll remove both posts by tomorrow.

Imho it was not that much off topic because if the end result of the donation is that the other party will have to pay higher fees, you don't really "do good". But I don't want to argue; since it was not useful for you, it doesn't matter: I'll delete.

I guess that it's a cheap USB stick in a counterfeit Ledger Nano S box. I really hope it's not something more evil.
9950  Other / Meta / Re: How did you chosen ₿itcointalk username at the beginning of registrations? on: November 07, 2019, 04:02:42 PM
Back then I didn't really think seriously on the name. I clearly didn't imagine I'll still have same account on the same forum after more than 5 years. Now I'd clearly pick something which at least is not subject to copyright  Roll Eyes
NeuroticFish is the name of a band. A band from which I like the music and also its name.
9951  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: wrong address on: November 07, 2019, 03:15:11 PM
You have sent to a bunch of addresses and it's not really clear what you've done.
If all the other addresses you've sent to are intended and the only one "incorrect" is 3P8xgeBSsYLYUPQBJBQNDKjBhdQqKw6Ycj, then most probably it's a change address in your wallet, which means that it's money that "returns" to your wallet, just into a different address in the wallet.

What wallet are you using?
9952  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Dust attack donation address for old empty addresses on: November 07, 2019, 02:51:54 PM
No, what I am saying is that I take my .00000777 BTC and send it to an address

Maybe this helps: whenever I had such dust I've had an uglier approach: I've sent them to one of the altcoin exchanges with low minimum transaction amount and bought some altcoins.
The worse case scenario I know would be consolidating all small inputs for Bitcoin and other altcoins too into BNB (at Binance) until one can turn it into something more meaningful.
9953  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Do long term holding profitable in all cases? on: November 07, 2019, 02:32:56 PM
For the first question "Do long term holding profitable in all cases?" the answer is clearly no, long term holding is not always profitable.
You have to pick the right portfolio and watch it, since some coins will probably die and/or become worthless.

Should I continue holding my ethereum?

This is very hard to answer.
Ethereum had a great idea. That idea made it so popular it's still one of the few altcoins accepted by a significant number of merchants.
Now Ethereum has competition, but as seen with Bitcoin too, competition is usually way behind.
But 2019 was not a great year for Ethereum. It was a bad year for all altcoins. And there were problems and delays with the updates, and there were strange proposals made by Vitalik, ... and of course a lot of FUD around all this.

Whether Ethereum has the power for a beautiful comeback or not, I don't know. And even if I'd know, it's you who has to get all the pieces together and make a decision.
9954  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: My Electrum stopped working on Windows 10. Wallet is watch only. REWARD AVAIL! on: November 07, 2019, 10:45:50 AM
Can you please tell us the version number of the Electrum you have now? I really hope it's not the fake 4.0
Also if nothing else works and nobody else makes you a script to check / find your missing work, I can try that Saturday.

Another thing that *may* work would be to try to recover the possibly deleted wallet file. Get (onto another partition or stick) a recovery software like Recuva and see what it finds for you. The file should have been in the folder described by nc50lc already and possibly called default_wallet
9955  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: November 06, 2019, 08:03:32 PM
now how to get those moronic Bcrap holders to understand that Monero exists and what Monero is?

Well, that could be also simple, but we face a problem.
I guess that Ver has invested quite some funds (and influence) to advertise his coin and convince certain businesses to accept his coin (and maybe even offer better terms for his coin than proper Bitcoin).
So those noobs have fallen for the advertising (it doesn't matter here how false it was). That's what they understand. Advertising. (simple)
But.. (problem) : Monero doesn't do much advertising (if it does at all). So it may not be easy to reach them.
9956  Local / Romānă (Romanian) / Re: Reglementare crypto currency in Romania on: November 06, 2019, 07:55:09 PM

9957  Economy / Lending / Re: Can property be a loan collateral..? on: November 06, 2019, 02:46:06 PM
This user is phishing for a scam.

That was my thought also.

OP, property papers, the background check if they are mortgaged, the actual escrowing, all are difficult to be done properly and beyond doubt through 3rd parties over the internet.
So only a fool would accept to accept to loan money in such conditions and no proper escrow would accept that business.
The chance all this to finish in a scam is just too big.
9958  Other / Meta / Re: @Theymos - how about verifying for Brave/BAT? Easy extra revenue. on: November 06, 2019, 02:37:21 PM
it's kind of strange to see BTCTalk not yet being verified as publisher

I also don't find it so strange. Such a move could be seen as a validation fro BAT. It could also boost BAT (which could be exploited on exchanges).
And what would be the benefit for Bitcointalk? Peanuts? Just compare it with the benefit for BAT.
9959  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How do you sell a million dollars bag of crypto? Would you trust exchanges? on: November 06, 2019, 01:15:43 PM
Just wondering if I want to sell significant amount of crypto, where can I do it ? By significant I mean $250,000+ of crypto.

Unless you want to short it (in which case stable coins may be better option too), there are few reasons to sell such amount all at once.
And then you can sell some at various exchanges and at various OTC exchangers (including crypto prepaid cards).
And even then, it could happen that the exchange is fine and allows you withdraw, while the bank will start asking questions and even lock your account (and money).

I would exchange most of it onto card slowly, while spending / withdrawing.
Also keep in mind that there are more and more things you can buy directly for crypto.

9960  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are there daily-life applications for Sexcoin? on: November 06, 2019, 09:08:41 AM
Many people would buy such services in an anonymous or pseudo anonymous way. So the established coins, whether it's Bitcoin, or Monero or other coins, they are perfectly suited for the job.
On the other hand, if you'd use something "sexcoin", you would completely defeat the purpose.

Just look how these would sound:
"- Honey, I see you've bought some Bitcoin with our card, what's that for?
- Oh, honey, is just an investment.
- OK"

-or-

"- Honey, I see you've bought some Sexcoin with our card, what's that for?
- Oh, honey, is just an investment.
- No shit!"
