So you have a wallet.dat file, to which you've forgotten the password to? Where did you find the script that you're talking about?

I support the original idea for both temporary bans as well as permanent bans.
I'll be happy if we get it only for permanent bans, if we get it for both then it is even better.

1. When a forum name displays the "BANNED"/"TEMP BANNED" user rank, make the rank a linkthat goes to the forum rules. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0
You mean that the rank itself should be a hyperlink to the forum rules? Interesting suggestion! I'll bring this up as well (in case that theymos is not reading this thread).

2. What about having a ban counter (obviously for temp bans)?
This would actually be very useful internally, since most of the time I'm left guessing whether someone has been banned before or not.

3. Make the user rank of "BANNED"/"TEMP BANNED" a different color, like Red or Orange.

Just throwing these out there. I have no idea what it would take to code #2 and whether it would
even be helpful in any worthwhile way.
Thank you for all of your suggestions (I've snipped the post so that it takes up less space). I'll surely discuss them with the admin.

If what you say is true, that none of the admins care about users abusing the forum, there will be no forum long term, because every decent person left and the spammers among eachother will just fill a database.
Unfortunately this has already happen to a good extend. Decent users are posting less and less due to garbage content & input from spammers, which in return leads to them slowly visiting the forum less frequently..

Ok, I understand it about the name changes, but on every thread there is a high chance to find every kind os poster coming to do his "contribution", including signature spammers, hard to stop it, if we be worried everytime about them, we can't talk about anything here.
Correct. In meta it can spiral out of control since you can't have self moderated threads. Besides, this thread can be easily answered by random one-two liners so that has to be paid attention to.

As extra money is always welcome, the forum could have a tab where we could find a "shop" with some "accessories" to our account. If you want to have your name in blue, green, yellow, red... You could buy it on the shop.

If you want to add an effect on your name, like metalized, shiny, texturized... You could buy for different prices, and the money would go to the forum. Customization options. Possibility to add a gif to the avatar spot (don't know if it's too hard). If someone think there are more things to add, fell free to say.
I wouldn't be necessarily against something like that (gif. avatars are implemented in new forum), but as I previously said, I just don't see it happening without concrete planned out proposals (unless theymos surprises us with such changes).

I believe you can change your name if you donate 10btc to the forum.
That's the Donator rank, I believe OP suggested paying solely for name change.

basically what you are suggesting here is to lower the 10 btc ( to become vip) donation to be able to change name.
Theymos has already stated that this will not happen. They made introduce some lower donation tiers (that post was written a long time ago though).

Changing name is not given just to anyone mainly because of what shorena said , scammers will abuse it. It'll get confusing as well.
Either you have proof that shorena == Lauda or you're on some fine drugs. Cheesy
9987  Other / Meta / Re: Idea for forum on: November 10, 2016, 10:37:42 PM
It's just an idea, to make people contribute to the discussion on this thread...
If by *contribute* you mean a high chance of becoming a signature spam infestation, sure. Let's see what happens.

But as you aren't interested on it and the forum doesn't need extra income, forget about it.
You can easily check how much the forum is generating via the AD slots from the auctions. Technically it doesn't need the income (but who doesn't want extra money?) and theymos is thus not inclined to make such changes. I'm not saying that I'm not interested in exploring such ideas, however name change is likely going to cause more trouble than it's worth.
9988  Other / Meta / Re: Idea for forum on: November 10, 2016, 10:27:57 PM
The forum does not actually need any extra income. Besides, you just threw your idea out there without any exact proposals (pricing, etc.).

allowing forum users change name
This would be a *heavenly feature* for scammers, so no.

9991  Other / Meta / Re: [Interest Check] - User Rank 'Banned' on: November 10, 2016, 03:25:24 PM
There seems to be almost unanimous support for this so far. I'll leave it open for another week before I talk to theymos again. Hopefully this will see the light of day very soon.

9992  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Storing Bitcoin using Core and prune on: November 10, 2016, 02:38:08 PM
I incline to agree that paper wallet is still the best. All electronic devices have their life spent (durability and compatibility with current system).
False. Paper is prone to degradation and all sorts of damage which makes it more reliable than hard disks for instance. Talking about 'all electronic devices' as a storage option is not a good idea as the durability greatly varies depending on what you plan on using.

Imagine I setup a great piece of software in a floopy disk, in 10 years time it will most likely not working or I can't even find the drive to read it.
Why would you store a piece of software on already outdated technology? If you store it now on a SATA HDD, there is zero reason to believe that you will not be able to plug it in somewhere in 10-20 years. That said, there are some factors that need to be considered (e.g. magnetic field breakdown). I'd recommend revisiting the backup at least once every two years.

For backing up digital assets the common rule is 3-2-1 (three copies in two different media formats, one of which should be at a different location). I see no reason why a paper wallet couldn't be a part of that.
3 encrypted devices: 1 USB, 2 HDDs from different manufacturers and different sizes (all tested prior to usage).
9993  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The FCA Is Testing Bitcoin Cross-Border Transactions on: November 10, 2016, 06:38:20 AM
This has to be eventually deployed. I do think that it is taking longer than it should as the existing solutions are highly inefficient in comparison to the potential the cryptocurrencies hold and their underlying technology.

The beginning of the end of bitcoin transactions for normal people.
No. What would make you say something like that?

You must post in multiple sections of the forum during your participation/week
Considering the US election and (for those of us who care) recent developments in the Brexit saga, are we offering clemency to those who might have made an above average number of posts in the Politics subforum this week?  I don't always spend such an inordinate amount of time in there, but it's been a big draw lately.
Don't worry about it. I'm not going to ban someone for focusing their posts (unintentionally or even intentionally) in a certain section for a specific week. Generally, this is just one of the factors that are considered. However, if you are constantly doing this (with no end in sight), then you would eventually (probably; case-by-case basis) get warned and/or booted even with constructive posts.

Alright, its little help when fighting spammers. Im not against a banned tag/rank btw, but maybe it should be given with the 2nd temp ban. This could discourage spammers further as it would likely get archived somewhere and make it easier for campaign managers to refuse those as participants.
Fair point. My primary suggestion is the rank 'Banned' for those that are permanently banned. This seems to have the highest chance for possible addition to the user rank system, and implementation should be fairly trivial. I will also consider proposing 'Temporarily Banned' or 'Temp. Banned' for those serving out their secondary temporary ban afterwards.
