1  Economy / Economics / Banking on Cheese on: August 11, 2017, 10:27:51 AM
How many times have we heard that currencies should have intrinsic value? Truth is, the value of something (be it Bitcoin or a wheel of premium cheese) is eventually set by the persons that are willing to recognize and trade it. And that's a good thing!  Smiley

What are your plans for future development?
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitmain Cash was stillborn. (ITS DEAD!) on: August 01, 2017, 08:37:50 PM
I maintain that if it hopes to survive it needs 20% of the bitcoin networks Hashrate.

Look if the price can break 400$ then yeah it could survive.

Is there something special happening at 20% hashrate (or $400) or are they simply ballpark limits of yours?

How do Bitcoin donations/sales comply with various money anti-laundering legislations? Is there a way to enforce only eponymous transactions?

Does Phase 2 start immediately after Phase 1 or will there be a small hiatus?

I am genuinely excited about this. The nice language support will bring a hell lot of developers onboard.
7  Economy / Economics / Re: Does the Price of Bitcoin Matter? on: June 18, 2017, 08:50:04 PM
If the price is going up, it helps miners keep being motivated to crunch. Difficulty to mine is rising each day that passes, so it makes sense to have them rewarded with higher prices. In this sense, the price really matters.
8  Economy / Economics / Re: Do You Think Bitcoin Will Replace Dollar Soon? on: June 07, 2017, 05:39:39 AM
For me it's no, because if the bitcoin change the Dollar, I think bitcoin value were going down because bitcoin is the basis of Bitcoin price in the market. Moreover, billion years bitcoin beat the Dollar in the market because trust of all people were already earn by Dollar.

What if the Bitcoin was officially pegged to the Dollar in some way? I mean by the Federal Reserve. Or, if the Federal Reserve made its own e-coin (BitDollar/eDollar) on a blockchain with its own rules, including pegging to the physical Dollar?

What do you guys think of the following aphorism: "Money is supposed to serve three purposes: it functions as a medium of exchange, a unit of account, and a store of value. Bitcoin arguably satisfies the first criterion, because a growing number of merchants accept it as payment. But it performs poorly as a unit of account and a store of value."?

I saw a similar definition in Mishkin's latest edition of The Economics of Money, Banking, and Financial Institutions which spares two pages on Bitcoin (as of 2015). It is also online on this old blog post.

12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How did you first hear about bitcoin? on: June 04, 2017, 06:38:21 PM
Heard about Bitcoin when it came out, but did not pay close attention. Although I almost immediately understood it would be revolutionary, I thought this would take lot of time, mainly because the society and economy had to understand its benefits first. I think the real difference comes now with the alt-coin infrastructures with the extra features. Nonetheless, Bitcoin is still the benchmark, the grandpa that we should measure the field! Smiley
