1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ❤️ [ANN][ICO][DWB] ❤️ Dating With Benefits - The Future Of Sugar Dating ❤️ on: April 20, 2018, 06:08:02 PM
This will be huge.  Well done guys

https://medium.com/@datingwithbenefits/dating-with-benefits-ico-announces-new-confidentiality-smart-contract-feature-4b4ec0fe8362

I like how the investor broke down the token metrics

Investors are intrigued as well. “The math adds up,” said one investor we spoke with. “Industry statistics say the average Sugar Daddy spends over $5000 US dollars on his sugar babies every month. Our fund managers believe the average Sugar Daddy who signs up with Dating with Benefits will likely hold the equivalent in BENEFIT tokens. If they get 200,000 Sugar Daddies on board in the first year that would bring the market cap of the BENEFIT token to a 1 billion dollar valuation. An over 40x return from the ICO price. It’s simple math — and that’s why we’re investing.”

When asked where clientele for the site will come from, Founder Mark Van Stratum responded, “our new advisor Peter Stolz owns sugardaddy.com and sugardaddyforme.com and has a database of over 6 million users. I expect with that connection, as well as our connections with LiveJasmin.com and other dating sites; we will easily get more than 200,000 Sugar Daddies using our site in the first year. We are bringing new money into cryptocurrency.”

What are the benefits of this kind of platform being on blockchain?

See my comment above.

I think the biggest thing is the legally binding smart contracts for sexual consent.

But also cool that you can stake tokens to rank higher in the search function
What are the benefits of this kind of platform being on blockchain?

And a follow-up question, do you think that there are enough potential specific users that are willing to do this for crypto?

I think it could bring new people into crypto tbh

I am still not understand this sugar date.
You should have read the description... As far as I've understood this project, (let me make no bones about the terms) it allows the wealthy men to pay for the gifts designated to their lovers (also one particular wealthy man orders presents to some of his love-mates), so I guess it would be hard these men's wives and other interested parties to find out on which items they spend their money. I guess that's the idea... But still, I wonder what makes the project an outstanding one if it is, of course.

Don't forget they have also created legally binding smart contracts for sexual consent.

Personally, I think the consent function will be quickly adopted by celebrities, millionaires, and former convicts - people who have something to lose, and then trickle down to the mainstream.   If a guy thinks "hey - this could save my ass" he's going to pay to use it, almost like insurance

I think the project has great potential in terms of the targeted market

It's quite a narrow interest group they are targeting at, wouldn't you agree?

Seeking Arrangement has over 10 million members and makes 30-40 million in annual revenue.  So the market is there.

Joey, thanks for your response

1) I am not affiliated with Swirlds. I actually run my own crypto fund. I just like their technology.

2) Gossip protocols have been around for a long time, but I said “gossip about gossip”. My understanding is that that is one of the key innovations.

3) If you build another protocol, thats cool. Good luck. Thats what I was suggesting.

4) Send me the link to "Scalable and leaderless Byzantine consensus in cloud computing environments.” and I’ll take a look

5) I’m interested to see the innovation in your white paper when the revised, non Hashgraph, version comes out.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: PRISMA - Third Generation, Non-Blockchain, New Consensus Algorithm, New codebase on: October 12, 2017, 12:18:03 PM
This is actually wrong. This project seems like its run by scammers or copycats. There aren’t real pictures of the people (just cartoons) and I don’t think there was an attempt to even reach out to the Hashgraph guys - just to make a quick buck creating an ICO based on technology that wasn’t theirs.

"Small changes" do not make a protocol unique and all DAGs are not created equal, nor are they all similar. I have read the white paper and patents and the innovation of the Swirlds Hashgraph was virtual voting and gossip about gossip. These are actually very substantial innovations and differentiate it completely from other DAGs e.g. IOTA, DAGchain, Byteball etc. It is what allows the Swirlds Hashgraph to have the speed, fairness and security properties that it has. These characteristics make it very unique, which is why a patent was awarded in the first place.

You cannot simply “get around” innovation / patents with “small changes” like the people behind this project suggest above. You would most likely still be breaking the patent but that is not even the main problem - the main problems are:

1) By making "small changes" to an innovative technology you didn’t create, instead of inventing your own, you are indicating to the market that you cannot be innovative yourselves, because you want a quick cash grab from an ICO.

2) You are launching what is essentially an ICO based on someone else's hard work.

3) You are launching an ICO which could be illegal.

4) If you guys do get into a lawsuit, there goes the value of the project

In summary, you cannot simply make “small changes” and say “see it just looks like other DAGs" and have a new protocol. DAGs have different properties, and the Hashgraph one is especially different. Ask a lawyer and you’ll see I’m right.

And more importantly, this isn’t the way legitimate projects work. Be innovative and ICO that. Don’t be copycats just trying to get around patents and making "small changes" to a technology that you didn't invent. I would never buy into an ICO like that.
7  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2016-06-07] Swirlds Addresses Blockchain Limitations With Hashgraph on: September 10, 2017, 05:53:27 PM
Swirlds claims they can create the next generation of distributed consensus through their hashgraph platform. While still promoting fairness and distributed trust, it is also resilient to DDoS attacks. However, it does not require proof-of-work to achieve any of these goals, which makes it rather peculiar. The associated whitepaper does not mention specifically how the company delivers this technology

Hi jdebunt,

Great question.  Hashgraph has a lot of new info coming out - have you taken a look at their new website? hashgraph.com

8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Swirlds - Hashgraphs as a promising alternative to Blockchains? on: September 05, 2017, 04:36:07 AM
there's one thing that appears like an issue to me. An that is the importance of the number n of all the nodes, which is a fundamental variable in the calculations done by the algorithm.

Quote
Do all nodes need to be online for system to function?   Number of current nodes?

Over 2/3 of the nodes need to be online for consensus. If fewer are online, the transactions are still communicated to everyone online very quickly, and everyone will immediately know for certain that those transactions are guaranteed to be part of the immutable ledger. They just won't know the consensus order until more than 2/3 come online.

Especially in a non-permissioned system, the number of nodes will vary considerably over time. How will n be determined in such a system so that it not only allows for communicating existing transactions but also for consensus on new ones?

It's not easy to determine (or even estimate) the number of nodes in a p2p nework that are online at a given time. And even if you could guess that number, what would be the effect of a highly varying n on the hashgraph itself? Or would you first need to reach consensus about the size of the community?

This is what Leemon seems to imply and according to him, this would work out nicely (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NI6sQHfIPbk, starting from 29.15). But isn't that rather circular reasoning? Or maybe you could just include the fact that a node isn't reachable anymore in your gossip. If more than 2/3 of the nodes gossips that node x is down, n would be reduced by 1 by all nodes as per the consensus achieved by them.

Alkan, I had the chance to ask Mance Harmon, Swirlds CEO, your question on the Hashgraph Telegram Group:  https://t.me/joinchat/DpeJM0R1FpqUD5N2YvNcAQ

This was his response:

"What's important to remember is that the hashgraph is unlike other gossip protocols.  The information that is being gossiped is both transactions (understood by the application running on top of the platform) and information that conveys who has talked to whom and when.  So, it's incorrect to say that "It's not easy to determine (or even estimate) the number of nodes in a p2p network that are online at a given time."   Actually, it's incredibly easy if you have a hashgraph that represents Gossip About Gossip.  It's easy to look in the hashgraph and see the last time a given node gossiped.  It's directly observable in the hashgraph.  The hashgraph actually gives you a fantastic view of network weather and who is online and when.

In a permissioned system we only let people join if they are going to be active.  Because the hashgraph comes to a moment in time where all nodes agree on exactly when a transaction takes effect, they can all agree on when the number n changes because somebody joined or left.  So, at every moment every node is in agreement on the value of n.

Today we are describing permissioned systems.   We will describe our ideas for public systems in the future."

I hope that helps.  If you join the telegram group you can chat direct with some of the lead developers Hashgraph Telegram Group:  https://t.me/joinchat/DpeJM0R1FpqUD5N2YvNcAQ

Read other threads here. Do not invest.

Could you elaborate on that a bit?

The idea behind this project is excellent.  Having lived overseas for a large portion of my life, this solves some real world problems when it comes to buying international real estate.  I love the concept.

What I don't like is that you are linking your token sale to fiat, ie $1 USD = 1 token.  Please consider linking it to crypto instead.  I think you will find more support in the community this way.

Also, you're timeline needs some work.  Investors need to see more details in regards to what is happening between Dec. 15 (transacting tool in production) and July 2020 (P2P transactions).  Ideally you would bring on additional staff with some of the ICO money and try and speed that timeline up.  That's a long term investment and many investors will want to see more milestones reached in-between 2017 and 2020.

If xfc dev pay 3 btc then bittrex will list it.

Do you really believe this nice story?  Cheesy I'm old in crypto, I lost my money in MtGox..., in cryptsy I lost 3 mil XRP plus other coins - about 1 mil $US -today prices, so I have enough experience to tell you friendly that exchanges like bittrex or poloniex have  a different business model. They are not caring about 3BTC, even about 100BTC if they can't control that coin and if they can't make pump&dump how they like it.  Wink

Right now they are pumping a lot the altcoins market and if you want I can give you a list with at least 50 shitcoins (scamcoins) at an incredible quotation. Do you imagine how much money they are earning from this?

I can bet with you that in a short time (a couple of months) altcoins market it'll crash and you'll see blood on exchanges. After that you'll see a maximum 50 coins (the serious projects) on exchanges. Also I suspect that one of polo/bittrex it'll fall down till the end of the year and a lot of users will lose again their money (like in cryptsy or mtgox).

My suggestion for the devs is to find another solution, one partnership with a fully licenced exchange, with fiat deposits, cards payments and withdrawals, to facilitate a large adoption outside of community, for football fans.

GL/GT

Dude, that's terrible.  I feel for you.  Have you been able to pull any money out of crypto?

The project looks great.

I'm not clear though on how to claim the tokens if I participate in the pre-ICO?

Hi, all PPT will be sent to the wallet address which you used to purchase PPT from. This will take place after the ICO ends on the 16th August. Hope this answer your question.

Great!  Thank you

I tried to link my wallet (that I initially used to buy XFC) with my new footballcoin user account, but it doesn't update.

On the security page my wallet address (that holds the XFC) is listed.  On the "Add XFC" page, it shows the wallet address that was auto-generated when I opened the footballcoin account (that doesn't hold any XFC)

Is this something that's still being worked on/in progress?
