2  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How long before GPU mining is obsolete? on: May 29, 2013, 03:09:37 AM
As I posted in another thread, GPU mining is still very profitable with paid-off hardware.

-------------------------------

With an existing 5850 GPU and summer air conditioning, it is costing me ~$0.80/day to mine (total rig wattage). (~$5.60/week)

At the current difficulty, I earn ~0.09333BTC/week which is currently ~$12/week.

That makes for a profit margin of ~100+% and is significantly cheaper than purchasing BTC directly with that ~$5.60/week.

At the current difficulty, it would be profitable for me to mine even with the price all the way down at $61/BTC.

very true im mining at 1.9 gigs and i made over $300 after power costs and that's assuming btc price doesn't go up which it will.

4  Economy / Speculation / Re: can BTC ever return to significantly below $100? on: April 25, 2013, 05:05:34 AM
is there some kinda rule here against mentioning SR? in all of these threads it does not seem to come up...the way i look at it is people need to buy btc in order to initiate the transactions which are profitable enough to them in many cases that they could even be supporting themselves on it so if they cant get the coins they want in a timely fashion they will up the offer price...as long as nothing changes those simple facts i dont see why the price of btc would drop back down below 100 again barring some crazy catastrophic event for more then a very short time...i know people that rely on the bitcoin system to make transactions that otherwise would not be possible and i think that alone is enough to sustain btc well into the future

try bitparking and abc pool they are very noob firendly and seem pretty reliable but at such a low hash rate your probably still just spinning your wheels

i dont buy this whole asci thing "get on the list to be super amazing this is really ganna happen this time we swear" sounds like a tactic to get people to *be to afraid to* buy mining rigs and up the difficulty..said the opposite of what i meant...i just dont buy it at all you cant even get voltage unlocked cards anymore
