1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: April 06, 2018, 11:35:26 AM
Unknown hash rate still high, so can we assume either that was something more like Javascript mining or can we assume that ASICs were able to update their algorithm too?
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 15, 2018, 02:00:57 AM

Whats the ETA on the snapshot?

All you guys that are just going to dump just make sure to move your funds to a new wallet before the snapshot and then again after.

Good point.  For some reason I assumed it was already done.  Watch the blocks fill up  Grin

Too much hassle tho, to dig up the cold storage.

Pre-fork: A -> B
On Fork: B -> exchange -> dump
On Monero: B -> C -> A

Does that mitigate the problem?

Announcement - Proof-of-Work tweak and a note on key reuse

https://getmonero.org/2018/02/11/PoW-change-and-key-reuse.html

Will this protocol change affects botnets mining? And if it affects that, does it means hashing power will dive at least for some time around fork period?

Will there be a chance of a chain split because these "70% unknown" hash power comes from botnets and that they might not just switch the software version promptly, leaving and old "ghost" chain burning power and taking some unaware souls?

It is meant to prevent ASIC miners. There was speculations that someoen build ASIC miner so if that is the case then mining hash power should reduce. I think there is little chances for that. Also if that is the case, those that have ASIC miners will now start an offensive against this change. Since with this change will lose their advantage.

No one can tell how many hash power comes from bootnets. Can be 99%. Botnets operators can easily join any pool. So as any miner can mine solo or on private pool. On that pie 70% was marked as unknown only because maker of that pie know names of pools that do only 30% of hashpower . If he would do homework a bit better could easily add few % more.  Saying "because these "70% unknown" hash power comes from botnets" is simply wrong.

Ok, but you answered none of my points... I actually want to know if it will impact on botnet mining (not if it was target for that). And also, I agree that it is not right to say that 70% are indeed botnet, which I didn't. I may have expressed myself bad, but what I meant was: "IF a great part of that 70% unknown hash rate DO comes from botnets and that botnets are mining using old code, will we have any hash power break down upon update?"

And the Hash rate didn't drop a bit! Actually it continues to rise...
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 05, 2018, 10:08:46 AM
A coin that is untraceable will never be adopted by governments or major corporations. Without some sort of trace to the original buyer, banks will never have anything to do with companies who accept anonymous transactions. That is just common sense. I believe Monero is here to stay but its only going to be prioritized by people who don't want to be traced.

Monero has something called "view key", so when you WANT to make it public you CAN.

So I had forgot I had a old bitstamp account and tried to recover it.

It is not just fiat, I have requested a XMR withdrawn from Bitfinex and it has been more than 5 days and it is still "processing".

There are all these loadable visa card for BTC why don't we have one yet?

Someone Tell them Fucking whales to get their shit together!

Visa withdrew the license for all companies offering a BTC linked visa card a few weeks ago - so all Visa BTC cards are now extinct. It took me weeks to get my funds released. Also Bitwala had their bank cease all btc to fiat withdrawals.

Bitwala are claiming though that they are very close to releasing the first BTC bank account, so your BTC account will be linked to a Bitwala debit card and Bitwala bank account...but we shall see.

I think BTC to Fiat will become increasingly difficult.

Thanks alot for this info. Smiley Looks like the NWO is putting the screws to us. Sad

That is why I've been saying we need to use XMR as way of exchange, not value hold. I try my best to use available services in XMR, even if it is a little more expensive, even if I have to put fiat into XMR just to use it to buy something, instead of buying directly, even if receiving part is going to get fiat.

But maybe the most important thing is pushing where we can to make that happens, and that means where we can accept XMR instead of fiat and try to force it at most.

This is the only possible outcome to our success.

Thoughts for your floor?

180?
130?

Surely not lower than 80usd?

RSI looks to be approaching a bottom indicator on various scales.

What is REALLY worrying me is the lack of trolls... THAT is a TRUE worrying indicator! No one is trying to make us sell...

Funny thing is that although price has dropped a lot, hash rate keeps rising... 30 days ago it was 300 MH/s and 60 days ago was 150 MH/s

Quote
Hash Rate: 756.78 MH/sec

Wow.  Seems like yesterday I was wondering if we'd ever be able to hold above 20 for any length of time  Grin

https://chainradar.com/xmr/chart   looks like a spike to 1GH/s the other day.

From 6 to 80gb, not a bad year Smiley

Current: ~92G rising really fast.

Look at those foothills...  How long until TH/s?

Does that mean that even Monero is not the most profitable mining coin, people wants it OR does it means that it is the most profitable coin for botnets, malware mining, etc?

Monero blood... remembering the 0.016-0.011 price agony before exploding to 0.023 together with BTC

monerujo android app is fantastic! For me the best wallet I have ever used. It is well designed, easy to use and the funds are really on your hands, secured! With xmr.to integration I am able to use monero as currency today, pay bills and consume! That is astonishing! Makes me want to hold only monerojs because of the easy to use, instead of keeping a whole bunch of crap in an unstable and unsecure exchange that will eventually get hacked or get busted.

Take care, a phone has a lot of vulnerabilities when compared to best practices.  Use with burnable amounts.  But ya, it's an awesome app.  I've been used to using mymonero.com for such purposes, and this much easier and more convenient.  Add a hardware wallet for topping up, you are safe and versatile.  SoonTM

Exactly! I just hold less than 1 XMR on it for day-to-day usage and my holdings are cold.

XMR.TO  now integrated in Monerujo android wallet! Awesome.

I didn't even know this was in the works. https://xmr.to/ is definitely Awesome.

The safest way to pay !

Yes, very slick.  To send XMR from Monerujo, put in an XMR address to send XMR, or a BTC address to convert it BTC.  No dicking around, no huge fees.  It just can't get any simpler.

Cheers to BinaryFate for the continual support and expansion of his awesome service!  And of course to the Monerujo team - donation coming, as soon as I get back to one of my storage wallets.

Ledger will solve that problem for me, SoonTM

It is even cheaper than sending direct bitcoin payments. I use it a lot already to pay some bills using a gateway that allows me to pay bills using bitcoin...
What's unfortunate the people who run xmr.to eat the high bitcoin tx fees for you, that can't be sustainable.

Yes, I think about that a lot... I imagine that the gains they have on high volume transactions can cope with that.

Anyone experiencing issues with XMR on Cryptopia? I have a withdraw in "processing" state since 12th and no response from support. Support page says that it is taking 12 days to answer, so I am waiting, but today I sent some to test (0.04) and it is not showing up there as well...

EDIT: Found out that Cryptopia client is not synced with network. It seems stuck at 1488276... https://www.cryptopia.co.nz/CoinInfo/?coin=XMR   Shocked Shocked Shocked
