1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: relatively big transaction from me to unknown address. Error? on: August 01, 2013, 02:16:35 PM
Thanks to you both.

Does this behaviour pose any problem if I want to anonymize bitcoins? I haven't started researching that field of knowledge yet, but it sounds like it could be a risk, say I send 0.5 BTC to a randomizer and another 1.0 happens to end up on the same address I receive the anonymized BTC on?

I hate when programs assumes the users doesn't want to know what's going on "under the hood". Sure, most people don't care and maybe find it confusing, but they could at least put in something like a "show advanced settings and information" checkbox...
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / relatively big transaction from me to unknown address. Error? on: August 01, 2013, 12:10:36 PM
I recently started Bitcoin-Qt to receive my first payout from Slush's Pool on just over 0.1 BTC. To test how things work, I sent a small amount to one of my own addresses. I had to pay a 0.0005 fee too, and the only thing I could see in Bitcoin-Qt was "transfer to yourself" and the negative value of the fee. The balance was the same, minus the fee.

Then I went to Blockchain.info to see from what address it was sent, as I could not see that in Qt. I searched for the transaction number, and found my small transaction to another one of my addresses, but also a ~0.099 transaction to an address I do not recognize.

As I said, the balance in Qt is correct, but I don't own the unknown address, as far as I know.

This is probably a stupid question, I guess everything is as it should, but what happened?

That's where I am now. GUIMiner only have the CPU in the list of units.

I recommend using the Catalyst v11.11. It's the fastest driver package and should support the 6770. OpenCL APP already included. No need for a SDK package.

Thank you!

#%&¤$#£#¤%{""!!!! AMD/ATI! No logic, no order, no usable search function. That version seems to be the only thing I will need. I wish I found that before!

Once again I'm having problems. I haven't been mining for a while, because I've been having so much trouble with the ATI drivers.

Now I have made myself even more trouble - because Windows 7 seemed to cause a lot of trouble, I installed XP instead. After all, it worked with XP and the ATI radeon 4850 on my other computer.

I began with making a ghost copy of the drive when Windows was installed, mainboard drivers installed and W. Update done. If something goes wrong now, it's easy to just reset it.

I put the 6770 in, to try to get that running to begin with. I installed the last version that supports both the 4850 and the 6770: Catalyst 12.4. It explicitly says on the page that the installer includes OpenCL support. But when I install it, it doesn't have a checkbox for that.

Anyway, I continue to install a Stream SDK that I find (There's no APP SDK for XP.) and it says that there's no compatible OpenCL driver on my system. I installed it anyway. Of course it didn't work. I found out that it was a too old version that didn't support the card. Lesson learned: take the time to READ...

Well well, I found a newer version: Stream SDK 2.2, that should support both this card and the 4850. BUT IT TOO SAID THAT THERE IS NO OPENCL DRIVER, or if it said OpenCL GPU, I don't remember, so it would only be possible to use it with an OpenCL compatible CPU.

That's where I am now. GUIMiner only have the CPU in the list of units.

Please help. Didn't I get the OpenCL driver in the 12.4 install package, or did the old Stream SDK screw something up? It feels pretty meaningless to reset from the ghost copy, only to get the same problem again if it is so that I didn't get the driver in the first place.

The uninstall utility didn't do the trick.

With some configurations that doesn't work, I get an error message when starting Windows, that kdbsync.exe has stopped working. Could this be a clue? I searched it, and it seems to have something to do with the APP SDK. The only "solutions" I find is to remove or inhibit start of APP SDK. It's not like that's an option here...

Nope. I didn't have any restore point that was old enough. I'll try to search a bit on the web, otherwise I'll just have to reinstall it. And take a Ghost copy in case something happens again.

Edit: Thanks autonomous42, I'll try that first.

I believe this is the workaround (pics and all in there to make it easy)

http://bitclockers.com/forums/index.php?topic=7.0

Then that isn't the problem. I measured the corresponding pins on the monitor when it was unplugged, I got about 80 ohms.

Now I have tried running only a 4870 and also only the 4850 that worked before. Now they don't. Driver: 13-1 legacy. I'm beginning to think something in Windows is corrupted. For speed reasons, we deactivated windows update when we installed this machine, and then forgot about it. Now I have re-activated it to see if that does the trick. It will take some time, so I'll try it tomorrow. It's 10:50PM here in Sweden.

Have you tried using one of the older full Catalyst Suite drivers that support the HD4xxx cards as opposed to the legacy drivers? (not available for Windows 8 ).  The legacy driver set doesn't support hardware accelerated OpenGL support, (no Minecraft  Cry ) so perhaps OpenCL is compromised or removed too.

Yes I have. The legacy driver set for Windows 7 supports OpenCL, it even worked before I tried using two cards.

I have tried to install different drivers for the cards, and I have tried installing a previous version that supports both cards. Neither worked. It seems to be the combination of the new card and anything but the new driver that makes GUIMiner not start.

Now, when I am running only the new card, Phoenix and Stratum Proxy, it stopped working tonight, a few hours after I started it. I restarted the miner this morning and it worked again. I hope it's a one time occurance, but I doubt it. It didn't happen with Phoenix and BCPool. Any guesses?

This happened to me when I upgraded Catalyst from 3.1 to 3.4 using only a single card (7770).  Catalyst 3.4 fixed some display problems (flickering pixels) but slowed my miner around 20%.  I wanted to revert back to 3.1 so I uninstalled all AMD software (including the driver via device manager) and then installed Catalyst 3.1.  GUIMiner failed to start after this with no error message.

I can only speculate, but I believe that the OpenCL package is not removed when Catalyst is uninstalled. Software developers frequently leave support packages, such as OpenCL in place because they cannot determine if other software not written by them may be using the interface.

So when the older reinstalled Catalyst 3.1 attempts to use the newer OpenCL from Catalyst 3.4, its probably misusing a changed interface causing an error that GUIMiner doesn't know how to handle.

Thanks! Could Windows' system restore function help? I think I'll try that.

My estimsted rewards seem to be about right. I'm not exactly sure what they should be, but they are not in the 7 satoshi order of magnitude... Currently it's 0.00051612 and I've been running 200 MHash/s for 1.5 hours.

Maybe you should use next workaround. Remove one card from a computer. Run cgminer and if it works you will get kernel for that card. If it doesn't work change SDK and run again. If hashrate is too low use diffident SDK/driver and remove .bin file from cgminer folder. When you find the best combination backup .bin file just in case. Now remove the card and put in other card. Do the same but don't delete first card .bin file only second card .bin file if you don't like hashrate. Now put both cards in and run cgminer. It might work.

And just in case. When running windows you need to plug monitor or null plug into card. Did you?

I have not got any miner working on it's own without GUIMiner, I have tried a few different miners and lots of different settings in the command line, both own ideas and found on the internet. Always one of two things happen: either the program exits/crashes/doesn't start, or it runs but gets 0 hashes/s. This when GUIMiner works, I haven't even tried it when it doesn't.

Why wouldn't GUIMiner even start if it was only needing a monitor? I had a monitor connected to the other card at some time, but it was not connected to electricity as I didn't have any more outlets and didn't feel the need for two monitors enough to dig up an outlet splitter. Does the sensing need power to the monitor, or is it just two connected pins or a resistor between two pins or something?

The other day, I also noticed the problem of low payouts. For some time, it was down to one satoshi.

I still get the problem with GUIMiner stopping, just saying "connecting...", but it only happens around once every two days, so it's managable. I think it's my Internet connection that's unstable, and GUIMiner somehow can't recover when the connection goes down temporarily.

Cool.  Great thing for guiminer users, then.  Never tried mixed hardware using it.   I do know it is an issue with others - like cgminer or bfgminer.  I pretty much use cgminer exclusively these days.

No problem with CG... You can even use best SDK and driver combination for every card...

Thanks for all the answers

I know my forum name is confusing. I began with an old GeForce card, but I have a friend who works with computers, and I have borrowed other cards from him. Currently, I am running one AMD Radeon HD 6700 series.

The driver is version 12.104.0.0, from the 13-4 installer. I have been switching drivers back and forth because I have been trying to mine on that card simultaneously with a 4850. No matter what I do, I couldn't get that to work, GUIMiner didn't start, it only got a tray icon that soon disappeared. With some drivers other programs crashed. As I said, I have spent at least six hours and twenty reboots on (not) getting it to work. I think I got all other drivers out before installing the one I just mentioned.

I think the problem lies in the drivers, if you search AMD.com, you will find that a 4000 series card don't use the same drivers as  6000 series card.
Mixing 5000, 6000, 7000 cards is ok because they use the same drivers.

I think the problem you are having is because you can't mix hardware when mining.  You can run multiples of the same card, but not two completely different cards.  Sometimes even the same model card by different manufacturers is problematic.

Even if you have different miners for the different cards? GUIMiner didn't even start. When no compatible cards (or drivers) are installed, at least I get an error message. I could run it and mine with the 4850 and a GeForce GTS 240 simultaneously. I ran two miners (tabs) in GUIMiner, it worked perfectly.

Now it's working, with Phoenix and Stratum Proxy!

Sometimes it's obviously just better to do a workaround than trying to get something to work. I wouldn't have thought about that myself.

Thanks!

I gave up, at least for now, on that and is now only trying to mine with the 6700 series card.

I don't think the problem is in firewalls or routers, as it works with Phoenix, and worked on my other computer. I don't remember if I tried it when I had only the 4850 in this computer.
Also, I don't think BitcoinPool.com supports Stratum, so it can't be the protocol, as I have tried running OpenCL (poclbm) with BCPool and it still doesn't work.

I couldn't get Stratum Proxy to work on my other computer, but I think I'll try it again on this one.

I have put up a dedicated mining computer now, and I'm having a lot of problems with it, but I'll take one at a time. I am running GUIMiner
I'm getting this error message:

2013-05-11 16:26:06: Listener for "OpenCL Slush's": stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333 11/05/2013 16:26:06, Verification failed, check hardware! (0:0:Juniper, 2b5342eb)

when I am running an OpenCL miner connected to your pool.

You have said to others having this problem that it is most likely hardware or driver error, but I can run Phoenix (with BitcoinPool.com) without problems. What could it be? I have tried different flags.

PS: I tried running an OpenCL miner on BitcoinPool.com and I get the same problem:

2013-05-11 16:38:50: Listener for "OCL BCPool": bitcoinpool.com:8334 11/05/2013 16:38:50, Verification failed, check hardware! (0:0:Juniper, 74f69135)

I could try the other graphics card (that has other drivers), but please don't ask me to do it today... I have spent at least 6 hours and 20 reboots on trying to get the graphics cards working as I want, but they still don't. Nothing seems to work the way I want it to today.
with my initial setup i set GIUMiner ( the default tab ) to Slush's for pool and entered in my user name, with the Stratum changes you have 2 options, set up the mining proxy client or set to ' other ' for the server and port 3333

you could try stratum3.bitcoin.cz or stratum2.bitcoin.cz and do not forget your worker username and password as it ' logs in for work '

I have server set to ' other ', stratum.bitcoin.cz and port 3333, and now I also tried the other two addresses. No difference.
I think the problem is in this end. I'll try to reinstall GUIMiner, but I don't think that it will help. I don't think it is the graphics card or the driver, because Phoenix works. I was running XP on my other computer, this one is 7. Doesn't poclbm-mod (I think it is mod, that comes with the latest GUIMiner) work in Windows 7?

Saw your post in Slush's thread, have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Guiminer - maybe something got corrupted.

I'm using Guiminer and connecting isn't a problem.

K.

I tried another version that I have installed, and it works! Thanks!

I had "downdated" GUIMiner to have Phoenix for mining on Bitcoinpool.com, but I had the later version left too, and that works!

I still can't connect via Stratum since the DDoS attack. I have tried all three stratum addresses. It seems to be communicating, because when I enter an incorrect password, another message comes up.

My newbie thread about the problem, it contains more details: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=179870.0

Maybe you account is FUBAR on the slush side. Have you tried simply creating another account or at least a second worker on the existing account?

Getwork works, I just tried making another worker but that didn't work either.

Edit: I think I got it to work, thanks to the post from Kruncha in the newbie thread.

Sorry, I got it all wrong. That includes the under-chip-SMD soldering, but with more-or-less household items. I'd guess if I were to try and make a hundred of those, maybe two would work. The rest would be bricks. Not worth the time and money.

But I'm not sure about the programming of the FPGA. I hope there are ready-made programs and step-by-step instructions somewhere.
