1  Economy / Exchanges / Re: CoinsMarkets.com IS DOWN! on: May 16, 2020, 06:06:59 AM
This site was my source of the 2 most invaluable lessons in crypto - Trading and Scamming. Anyone else find the UI of this and Mercatox quite similar?

Yes, similar UI, but everything looks similar in crypto. I wouldn't be surprised if the owners were the same. They're probably still holding the majority of the shitcoins or they lost the wallets when their servers crashed since most of the listed coins weren't liquid enough to dump or tradeable anywhere else. I was just reminiscing about XP clearing the $1b market cap on Jan 5, 2018 before coinsmarkets went down. https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/experience-points/

Also, these scammers can still be traced with enough effort. My guess is they only got a percentage of the coin proceeds(maybe about $10m rather than $100m). They probably leverage traded it down to nothing by now. https://www.coindesk.com/theres-a-new-way-to-get-your-stolen-crypto-back

When users realized they weren't getting their funds back, they moved on with their lives. That's why scammers can keep on scamming. It takes too much effort to catch them with little reward unless you lost your life savings. I ended up making back the 4 btc I lost times 2 or 3, but I went ahead and lost that. I've finally been able to get away from crypto after two years and will hopefully be able to buy 10 btc at the end of this year.

ppl who are still waiting - are you guys crazy??   if someone stole your car tomorrow, would you wait for him to return it the next day?

move on already.

Is this a Zen koan riddle?  I would wait only until I've reached enlightenment.

If it makes you feel any better, my buddy just lost out on millions when his dad signed over all his wealth($10 million) and property to his caretaker before he died last month.  Now I got to get him into crypto to make it all back.

In a few days, there will be a poll on their website to decide which coin will be enabled.  The options will only be coins that aren't traded on any other sites.

Yes, the wallets on the exchange need to be in sync with the wallets on the block explorer or they would become insolvent like bitgrail by letting some users double withdrawal.  Bitgrail were just letting users trade air for 3 months instead of XRB Nano.  Some users are reporting that the balances are different.  Until they fix those issues, they can't open the wallets back up.  We have no idea how big the problem is.  If they actually cared enough to ask for help, they would get it fixed quickly, but there's a security issue there as well.  They have no head of engineering.  They have one guy that has to figure it out by himself.  This isn't right, but at least we have ECA until another terrible wallet opens again.  They could open JEW or Flappy, two popular coins.

They can't enable withdrawals for BTC.  The wallets aren't syncing correctly.  Once they figure out how to fix this, they will enable BTC withdrawals.  This is probably happening to a number of other user wallets.

Lmao seriously? Umm that's not why BTC isn't enabled. Come on now.

DB issues are for BTC and LTC where either the coin shows on the wallet but not the block explorer aka "phantom balances" the there are either less coins or more coins that are on the block explorer "ie incorrect balances".

BTC and LTC aren't having "wallet syncing issues" . Where did you even get that from? Hell they haven't even used that line as an excuse ....yet.

If anyone has ever had a family member or a close friend die unexpectedly, it hurts a little more and takes some time to get over it.  Be thankful you still have the seat on your pants.  I had $170k in coins on coinsmarkets(about 5 btc) and other exchanges before they went down.  I was gonna setup two nodes in a couple days but I got lazy.  We knew the site had been freaking out for days. Then on Jan 7, the market started to dip before the big crash on Jan 16.  I now have about $50k left.  I know you just gotta work hard and be lucky you're alive.  If BTC hits 50k at the end of the year, we should be good again.

I'm hoping our coins were sold at ATH first week of January, and they'll give us a 50/50 split.  It seems the coins are still there and holding 10-30% of value from one month ago if you check the wallets.

Anyone know if our coins are still staking during this time somehow?

They will come back. But how long will there be coinsmarkets? I think people are quite fed up with this amateurs.

There will forever be a coinsmarkets.  Why do you go to the liquor store on the corner to pay twice the price instead of the grocery store five minutes away?  People are inherently lazy and will keep using coinsmarkets no matter how many crashes it has.  It had good trading volume for crap coins.  There are a ton of other exchanges you were free to use but didn't.

Your friend lost over $1 billion in crypto?  I don't think I believe he'd be crazy enough to keep that much in one exchange.  I got 5btc in coins sitting there that loses like 10% in value every week.  I'm not worried because I plan to launch my own coin and exchange in a couple weeks.  I'll post about it here if I do an ICO.

Good bye coinsmarkets, good bye my coins in coinsmarkets.
my coin in coinsmarkets I have considered a donation to the coinsmarket staff, my coin in coinsmarkets equivalent $ 4500

You are a damn coward if you withdraw your money after site be up

Only a sub80 iq knuckle dragging retard would still do business with an exchange like that.

I have only been in crypto for 1 month, and I ALREADY think coinsmarket has taken the title of the WORLDS worse crypto currency exchange.

Any o.g.'s in the crypto game know of a worse exchange?

Mt Gox was a far worse scenario that played out.  I have a friend that lost somewhere around 10,000 bitcoins in the Mt Gox heist.  Mt Gox is legendary status for bad exchanges.

I know this thing with coinsmarkets sucks.  It is costing me money too.  But in all reality, as long as the orders are pulled and I still have coins when they come back up, I'll be happy and be ready to cash in a nice profit since the coins I held have 5x'd since this site has been down.

I didn't get a count of the total users before the crash, but assuming they had 100k registered users and each user had 10 wallets, that's 1 million wallets that they have to transfer over.  I have no idea how long that takes.  Then they have to restore all the active orders or cancel those orders and restore the funds to the users' wallets.  I'd be ***** bricks if I were the owner of this site.  We knew if this site ever went under, it would take a mass undertaking to restore all the funds.  So maybe the owners have a second exchange going to generate revenue while they put the restoration of this exchange on the back burner.  Hopefully, this is their main source of income, so they want to get it operational as soon as possible.  It would have been nice to throw the hundreds of thousands of dollars in profits at some better infrastructure, but we are stuck with this process until all the wallets are restored.  No point getting the site back up if the wallets aren't back up as well.  At least they aren't allowing trades to go through with empty wallets.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Experiences with CoinsMarkets.com? on: January 13, 2018, 10:27:57 PM
This issue could take a long time to fix because thousands of users were buying up coins for .1 sat and selling them for .2 sat to themselves to generate volume.  Now we have millions of wallets with less than 1 sat balance that have to be transferred to the new database.  This will take forever.

unless the site is back online by monday we will be instructing a solicitor to recover our funds plus damages.

they have been warned

A solicitor will recover 10% of the funds in 2 years.  Look at Mt. Gox.  That turned out lovely.  Only thinking about yourself.  It's not like they are emptying the balances.  We have verified the wallets are still online.  They could be planning a mass exodus, but it's far easier to roll with the 20k/day income they're generating than trying to steal a few million dollars in funds through different wallets.

Thanks.  I received my refund for the transaction.  You should have a HOT meter next to each ICO for people that aren't sure what to buy or low inventory alert and then automatically pull the listing rather than have people waiting hopelessly and having to ask for a refund.  Because it seems in the current system, you have to manually update the token count once you receive the payment.  Good customer service though.  It would be nice to display some sort of qty or remaining stock like only 5% of tokens remaining, 95% remaining, etc.  And then you should be cutoff if you try to purchase 10 ETH worth if less is available.

stop spreading fud. we all know that it's fake screenshot, it was posted in trollbox several times and always with different stupid messages.

I have 3 btc in coinsmarkets.  How much do you have?  If you check the site, you can see your balance is back now and the site is almost finished.

What happened with the Canya post-ICO?  Why didn't you distribute the tokens and why did you suddenly stop selling them?  I was gonna buy 20 eth worth after my 1 eth test purchase, but that went out the window when I never got my 900 tokens.  Your site mentions a delay in Ethereum/ERC20 transactions.  Why did my ETH take 5 minutes to receive but the ERC20 CAN tokens haven't been received yet after 30 hours.  I guess I can be a bag holder on etherdelta or hope the price 2Xes again tomorrow.

Do you only distribute tokens with little demand?  My assumption is you saw a demand spike and quickly canceled the sale after it was listed on etherdelta and you could gauge the fair-market price post-ICO.  I would do the same if I had 1000 ETH worth of a token that had 2Xed already.  Currently 3.5X the post-ICO price...
Congrats to the ICO investors.  I feel sorry for the post-ICO buyers.

The price is based on future price projections.  If something is selling for .01, the site has to be greater than .01 to make money.  And as long as they haven't given you your tokens yet, but you have sent the payment, they can cancel the transaction and return your ETH if the market price has risen.  The site's goal is to maximize their profit, not create the best profits for the buyers.

Thanks for the reply.  Your site looks pretty awesome.  It's one of the only places I found where I can purchase tokens for ICOs.  I sent 1 eth for a token about 18 hours ago.  I might buy more, but I haven't received yet.  I work on the business side and invest part time, so I know how busy you can be if you don't have someone doing 24-hour monitoring of messages.

I have a couple questions.  Your site doesn't seem to have a maximum supply.  I know someone probably wouldn't buy the total supply of coins that haven't launched yet, but how do you regulate someone buying more coins that have been allocated to your platform by the coin creators?  Do you send them refunds?

The second question is when you do send tokens out if they are post-ICO?
